Amethyst, London
Close to Regent street this place is a new upcoming restaurant that already received great reviews. Difficult to identify in the small street where it is located as only a small sign close to the dark entry door is indicating the place.
The restaurant has just one gigantic communal table where guests, due to its irregular shape, can sit with a little bit of isolation. The table is decorated with amerhysts stripes as a good way to connect to the name of the place.
At the bottom of the large room there is a full open kitchen where the young and talented Italian chef is preparing the dishese with the support of two other cooks.
The menu is set and wants to capture global influences mixing them in a sequence of interesting flavors and textures.
The salmon with the fois Gras is a good example of that. The two elements in yhe plate combine in a very engaging way.
Much influence is coming from Asia and Africa with a set of selected ingredients.
The wine list is limited but with some rare bottles from very small producers.
Service is overall good.
A journey into the different food culture influences that sometimes gives great outcome while in other cases experimentation wins over taste.
