cregan is brooding (jon snows #1 ancestor). he can unintentionally give off this unapproachable vibe, and some people that don’t know him personally assume that he is. but it’s completely the opposite, and people find that out watching you, his sweet wife, approach him with your gentle & kind demeanor. you instantly get on your tip-toes to press a kiss to his cheek with a smile on your face, and they expect him to pull away — to reprimand you for being so affectionate outside of private. but he doesn’t. in fact, their eyebrows raise & mouths drop open watching him bend towards you to help you reach, leaning into your touch. dare they say, they even see the hint of a smile on his face?

Frenglish differences in miraculous

which is a series where I'll be highlighting the differences between the French and English dubs of the wonderful show that is Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir.

I've always watched the show in its original language and I really recommend doing so but I recognise that it isn't necessarily doable depending on the subtitles people have available to them and the fact that they might be based on the alternate dub rather than a translation of what is said in French, so I thought I'd do this as a way to both show the differences and the things that people might miss, as well as sharing some interesting facts I've noticed! I'll be making one post per episode, with for each notable difference what is said in English, what is said in French with my translation and sometimes a little comment from yours truly 😌.

I'll have to make a few disclaimers as I always do with these things so here are the main ones:

I have done this (rewatching and recording the differences) a looong time ago so I might have changed my opinion on a few things since then, although I'll try to go over and correct if really needed

I didn't actually watch it in English (sorry I really don't like watching dubs) but I instead used the subtitles available on Disney+ which seemed to be an accurate transcription of the dub. however if I've made any mistake feel free to point it out! it also means that I only focus on the text and not the delivery of the lines

I kept the translation of the original french voice acting quite literal and I am in no way competent in linguistics (women in STEM 🫡)

I've only done this for season 1, as I believe fandubs are available for the further seasons but if people are interested I might do the other ones, however I don't have access to legal streaming services with subtitles anymore so it might be a bit more complex for me

I'm not pointing out every single difference because some are uninteresting or just due to simple language differences, but only the ones I personally found interesting/relevant

I didn't include things that happen in every episode (aka the theme song or transformation phrases), but I might do a separate post for them if anyone's interested

someone posted a pic of the hansry kiss with a brand on henry's neck and i went a little bit feral, so here's a snippet from a much longer thing set just after henry finds hans during that one poaching mission

“What did you even do to deserve that?” Hans winces at his own words, a flicker of shame crossing his face.

“Already assuming I deserved it, I see.” Henry rolls his eyes. Typical.

Hans wrinkles his nose and looks away. “I only meant—”

“Forget it, alright?” Henry rummages in his satchel and procures a small bottle of thick honey mead he’d acquired from a local herbalist. He uncorks it and takes a long swig before wordlessly handing it over to Hans.

“Thanks.” Hans accepts the bottle and takes a swig, nearly choking on the pure strength. He takes another look at Henry’s scar and furrows his brow. “I’m not dropping this, I hope you know.”

“Oh, I know, Sir.” Henry’s voice is short and clipped. One of these days, Hans is going to push Henry to his breaking point and Henry is going to let it fucking happen. Maybe then Hans will actually have to deal with some consequences for once.

“Go on, then.” Hans says. “Tell me.”

Words echo through his head—how can I ever refuse you anything?—words he’s said before and will say again. He’s sure they’ll carve something like it on his gravestone.

“Thieving and fighting.” Henry lists off his crimes in a far more palatable manner than the executioner did when he was on that stage, white-hot iron inches from his throat.

Hans stills, brow twitching ever so slightly, struggling to find the right words. It’s unnerving to see him so uncertain. “Surely they're not so barbaric in these parts that they’ll brand you for petty thievery?”

“No, they don't.” Henry huffs a laugh, shaking his head. “They'll brand you for doing all that, assaulting six guards and bedding the wrong person, though.”

Hans’ eyes widen. His lips part slightly, tongue darting out to wet them. Henry shifts uncomfortably on the forest floor. He’s used to people sneering at him and spitting at his feet as he walks past; the quiet, subdued shock is a new one. Hans remains stone-still, like he’s vehemently containing some kind of reaction and succeeding. He’s unreadable. Somehow, this hurts more than the brand ever did.

“Whose daughter did you—?” Hans starts, then nearly bites his own tongue trying to contain himself. “No, I don't think I want to know. Forget I asked.”

“What, surprised I bedded someone important enough for them to brand me?”

“No, I just—” Hans huffs, shoulders tensing and a strange look in his eyes. He bristles under Henry’s analytical gaze. “I’m wondering who I need to execute for branding my page. Christ, you should’ve run, for once.” 

Henry huffs and looks away, staring off into the dancing flames of the fire.
