wanted to draw geto and/or kenjaku for christmas eve but both emerged from the same sketch so they were close enough that my animator (cough cough, student*) brain went « ..its almost as ..if…….,, there… is space for an inbetween……. »
its not at all a clean theres sooo many mistakes (its meant to be a sketch, i do not care) but ill continue it later and maybe fix some to get a smoother result >:)
(+merry christmas ! (i say that today but you’ll hear it from me again tomorrow if i decide to draw a little something else (most likely winter typical fluff :3))

jjk 0 ramblings —
so i just had a quick recap of the movie yesterday and my observations need to be rambled else i’ll die with my mind exploding 🤯
mimiko and nanako when they entered the jujutsu campus were like, “this looks so backward.” like can you imagine the extent of the way suguru has spoiled his daughters? anything not posh is something they’re like ew. i think suguru is the one who buys them new accessoriess every now and then. spoils them so much these girls have never heard the word “no” from their papasugs.
the fact that suguru hated and hesitated from killing yuuta? he first went and wanted yuuta to join him so he didn’t have to kill a sorcerer for his plans — eventually, that was the last resort. even so, despite being broken, his ideals twisted and weirdly incomprehensible — he made sure yuuta could heal his friends <3 i love suguru so bad fuck this shit
we heard a stabbing sound at the sound of his death, i’m sure satoru stabbed him? i just don’t know and don’t want to know WHY? why did you stab your boyfrienddd gahhh i’m at my gojoever supporter era (temporarily)
when he said, “i just couldn’t wear a heartfelt smile in this world.” i died 🥲

I was listening to the JJK season 2 fully OST yesterday while writing and two songs came on that emotionally destroyed me because it clicked for me where the songs play
Firstly. The song that plays when Gojo confronts Geto
And secondly the song that plays when Kenjaku appears to Gojo
The first one hurts for obvious reasons, and so does the second one. But the second one hurts SO MUCH MORE for OBVIOUS REASONS. But I still want to talk about why.
In the second one, like yes, it hurts because that's the moment where Gojo meets Kenjaku. But there are specifically two short moments at 0:19 and 0:43 where the song sort of dips an octave? I don't know how to describe it, but it makes the scene hurt... Soooo much more... But when you watch the scene in the anime, BOTH and I MEAN BOTH TIMES the song dips in tone when Gojo is almost?? Betrayed??? The first time at 0:19, it happens right as after Gojo questions if it's a fake or transformation technique, but right before/as Gojo goes "no. It's really him". But the second one happens WHEN WE SEE GOJO'S FACE REACTING TO HIM GETTING TRAPPED BY THE SEAL!! IT HURTS! IT HURTS! SO FUCKING MUCH!!
Tumblr media
I'm deciding to live in the reality that this is the worst amount of hurt that Gojo goes through post Geto-death, simply because nothing else has been animated yet.
Oh god and I don't even want to talk about how the song changes IN THE SAME FUCKING SONG to a more sinister version of the SAME FUCKING SONG IN THE FIRST HALF right after Gojo goes "who the hell are you?"
Also in the dub, in that scene for those who watch the sub, I would like the people to know that Gojo says "Your body and cursed energy... All the information provided by my Six Eyes is telling me you're Suguru Geto. But... But both my heart and my soul know otherwise!" Like- HEART AND SOUL?!
As of writing this, I am rewatching the whole scene and went onto the next episode. God WHY DID THEY HAVE TO PLAY THE SONG AGAIN HHHHHH

Animated movie watching day!
I watched my first Studio Ghibli movie today, The Secret Life of Arrietty. It was my 2nd favorite movie I watched today. I’ll definitely add Ponyo and Howl’s Moving Castle to my watchlist.
The Book of Life was the best movie I watched. I love seeing my culture represented. Plus, Diego Luna can really sing! His version of Creep was actually so good. Lol
I’ve been meaning to fully watch Coraline for years. I was so happy to find the DVD for a dollar. As for Corpse Bride, I got it for free. After watching edits of the movie with the song 'Tu Boda,' I was very intrigued. I really loved Emily’s character.
28 days later being taken off streaming and only available on DVD/bluray inspired me to start my DVD collection! I found it for a dollar at a flea market just last month. Although I started dvd collecting in May 2024. I did start it yesterday but stopped after 30 minutes. It picked up a lot after starting it today.
Also, not pictured here, I rewatched JJK 0. I’ve started watching it every so often on Sundays. I’ll eventually buy the Blu-ray.

Yuta & Rika - a speculative analysis
Like with basically any fandom out there, I'm about 3 years late with JJK 0 😩 Regardless, I finally watched it yesterday and subsequently really, really needed to discuss this topic before I forget.
As an anime only fan, I only heard of Yuta from bits and pieces in the anime and from the fandom. That would go for Rika too so I never really understood the extent of their relationship until I watched JJK 0. But oh man, when I watched it, these two took my entire heart and soul.
And whilst I do get why Yuta is shipped with Maki or Inumaki, Rika wins it for me. And before I jump into my explanation, I want to say it outright - Yuta and Rika gives me strong Obito and Rin vibes 😳
Anyways let's talk about Rika.
This sweet yet psycho girl is a super side character (much like Rin), but I did a bit more research into her and it explained so so much more about her character and why she is the way she is (both as human and cursed spirit). Rika lost her mother unexpectedly at the age of 5 and then her father during a hiking trip together at the age of 11. There are speculations (by paternal grandmother) that she is involved in the death of both her parents. I cannot say too much about whether a 5 year old would have too much influence over their mother, but I will shelve this for now. I want to focus on Rika and her father. There is an explanation that one of Rika's biggest dislikes is older men. Let me tell you this - an 11 year old child with an adverse dislike for a specific portion of the population (older men) points towards one thing - abuse. This is an educated guess on my end (and if I was given a case in real life about this, I would come to this hypothesis as well), but the trauma Rika endured shaped her personality and how she would end up attaching herself to Yuta. We don't know exactly what sort of trauma Rika went through, but my guess is some form of physical or sexual abuse. The development of a 'manipulative' personality towards adults is a form of a survival mechanism developed to keep herself safe. Rika's father most likely had a role in her abuse and hence the mystery of his disappearance (and how it alluded to the fact that Rika had something to do with it, together with the explanation of her manipulative personality).
Let's come back to Rika's mother. There are two theories/hypothesis to this.
A 5 year would have enough cognitive capacity to understand that they are in an unsafe situation. However, it is unclear whether Rika's mother had any involvement in Rika's abuse. But what I presume is that she did not have a close relationship with her mother. The reason? She gave her mother's wedding ring to Yuta. A child impacted by abuse by one parent and not the other means they would naturally be attached to the safe parent, so anything sentimental attached to the safe parent would give the child a sense of safety. To give something special away like her mother's ring means her mother meant very little to her, so Rika decided to re-symobilise the ring into something new - something for Yuta. And because an 11 year old most likely cannot afford a ring
The second theory would be that Rika had a close and safe relationship with her mother, and the giving away of the ring to Yuta symbolises the safety and security she finds in him. I.e. the element of safety and security she found in her mother has been transferred to Yuta (via the giving of the ring).
Regardless of what theory we go with, there is too little information regarding Rika's relationship with her mother. We don't know what happened to her mother, whether she died of natural causes or was murdered. But all we know is that Rika most likely endured severe abuse by her father (that may or may not involve other older men).
Looking into Rika's personality. Her proposal to Yuta is a dead giveaway of her need to locate a safe space. Yuta is Rika's safety net. They met at a time where both were quite vulnerable - Yuta being unwell and Rika having returned from a mountain climb where her father went missing. Rika's proposal is an indicator of her need for a new life, the idea of marriage is to be permanently attached to her safety net and to have Yuta take her away from whatever she experienced. Of course, 11 year old children do have a basic idea of what marriage is, but it seems like Rika has more of an underlying idea of what she would like to utilise the marriage concept for - that is, to escape and re-establish her safety within the one person she loves and trusts. This explains her personality as a cursed spirit - jealous, overprotective, intense, emotional and childish. Through trauma, Rika learnt ways to ensure she is kept safe emotionally, psychologically and physically. She is always having to survive day by day until she is finally able to manipulate her father out of her life (again this seems a likely scenario, given the very little info readers are provided). When the one person (Yuta) who comes into her life finally allows her to be a child - to play, to have fun and give her the life she should have been having, naturally Rika would be overprotective of Yuta. As I mentioned, Yuta is her safety net, and to have him taken away (by bullies, by another love interest etc), is the decimation of Rika's own safety.
We were given only very small snippets into Rika's life and what she was like as a human. But her personality carried over into her cursed spirit form, and the basic information provided in the character profile, are both more than enough to deduce that Rika's background is incredibly complex with multiple layers of trauma.
One really big thing I would like to point out is Rika's comment before she moved into the afterlife - she was happier accompanying Yuta as a cursed spirit than when she was alive. This is another important piece of information that showed Rika most likely experienced a significant amount of trauma as a human. What would force an 11 year old child to come to such conclusions? The only answer is abuse. As a cursed spirit, Rika is able to escape everything and be by Yuta's side (almost like the prospect of marriage - "take me away from all this and let me be by your side forever")
For Yuta, I can't speak too much about him because his background as a child is essentially a mystery. Not sure about his parents and how he grew up. But judging from his bond and connection with Rika, I presume he grew up quite lonely and friendless. Whether there was trauma, I don't know but it did mention he had to distant himself from his family when Rika became a cursed spirit. Regardless, Yuta's acceptance of her proposal and his happiness at the prospect of being together forever with her as they grow older indicates to me that Yuta may have some complexities in his childhood we don't know about. But it could just be that he genuinely had a normal childhood and Rika was the one and only person outside his family he connected with. However, we don't know whether his timid nature occurred before he met Rika or after she became a cursed spirit. There are too many unexplained parts with Yuta. Anyways, we know Yuta loved Rika immensely (as much as Rika loved him), and his refusing to accept her death is an indicator of his feelings towards her. Their love for each other is pure and innocent because they allowed each other to live in safety and to be children.
And even after releasing her spirit, Yuuta still held onto remnants of Rika. I do love the idea of Yuta being able to move on and give himself to someone else, but I feel Yuta has a lot more unprocessed emotions regarding intimacy - that though he freed Rika, he seems forever bounded by being with her and only her.
So here's my conclusion for this pairing - their background and their pure love is what really made me love them so much. Does all this sound very Obito x Rin to you? Whilst Yuta is able to bounce back from the grief with the help of a mentor and friends, Obito never did. But they both shared an immense amount of grief from the loss of their loved one at an early age.
And yes, I seem to love my tragic rare pairs...dear oh dear.
Anyways, these are all speculations based on canon materials. So if you have any interesting hypothesis, I'd love to hear it!

So you know when you watch the most recent episode of jjk season 2 on crunchyroll it automatically skips to jjk 0
Guess where I left off on jjk 0
Yup that’s right the scene where gojo was about to kill geto their last moment together ( being alive that is )
That was really awkward after the ending of that episode and what happened yesterday with the leaks
I’m not okay 😃

jjk episode 29 thoughts!
wow…just wow.
the opening title card dating back to august 2007 was so poignant to me because if i’m not mistaken, high schoolers in japan graduate in march, and though i know jujutsu tech has a four year curriculum, i can’t help but think that if geto stayed until at least march 2008, it would’ve been somewhat of a milestone for him, considering if he never got scouted, he would’ve graduated by then.
i especially appreciate the detail into the sound engineering in this episode, the lengthy, strategic silences that aim to linger, and i especially appreciate the sound of the pitter patter of geto’s shower/the rain morphing into the cult applause as he thought about non-sorcerers. and then they gave us a full circle moment by introducing cult leader geto with the sound of the organization’s applause, i really liked how tidy they tied the loose ends up. i do wish that the geto cult leader scene was paced a little slower, though, everything happened so fast. perhaps it’s to juxtapose the long, long downward spiral sequence that took up most of the episode.
speaking of, they did a great job portraying geto’s downward spiral with yuki’s words (“make one of them your true thought”), miminana and what was implied, the pitter patter of rain/the shower; overall fantastic buildup. the way they animated him to look so exhausted and lost and unstable, him physically zoning out as we hear his racing thoughts—i thought the way they animated it was so effective. the little sequence we get when he went on his rampage, of him standing straight-faced in the midst of wild blue flames, screams all around. the button. absolute chills.
let’s talk about the shinjuku breakup. i thought it would be more emotional? it was definitely emotional in the vol 0 movie, and though the animation is cleaner and better in the anime, it packs less of a punch? maybe it has something to do with how bright the scene was (yellow overlay in contrast to the grey blue we saw in the movie) or maybe it’s the music choice? (it’s definitely the music choice.) i do understand that maybe they went ahead with these artistic decisions to juxtapose the movie, like a “this is what happened vs. this is how they remembered it” type of theme.
i love how we can viscerally feel gojo’s hurt and confusion. i’m a sucker for lingering scenes, so i did wish it was longer, but the voice acting alone made up for it.
seeing the main trio after the manga leaks yesterday is active cognitive dissonance, i tell you. and ending the episode with geto and gojo playing in the fucking rain was unusually cruel. but it was the ending song that made me cry for real, when the music goes half-time? waterworks :’) i do wonder if they planned that since the beginning of the season (they probably did) because that half-time sequence with sashisu and nanami and haibara just being teenagers absolutely shattered my heart this time </3
gojo’s little laugh when the main trio woke him up is nothing short of crazy. what kind of person dreams about their biggest trauma and laughs upon waking up? someone with issues, that’s who. maybe he laughed because as soon as his six eyes detected the kids, he knew that the past is the past and he can only be happy with what he has in front of him? well, as happy as he can be.
anyway, the episode lived up to my expectations, ascended beyond them, and i can’t believe we’re getting a filler episode next…with the main trio…that’s all we’ll have before shibuya, GOD.

For the ship ask : ZoSan - Zoro & Sanji and MobRei - Mob (aged up) & Reigen and SatoSugu - Gojo and Getou.... Thx
Thank you for sending this is in!!
Zosan
Ship it
Fun fact I was pretty against this ship at the beginning when I first started watching (now it's my fave op ship lmao). I think the turning point for me was maybe Water 7/Enies Lobby when they really start working together, and Zoro worries about Sanji on the sea train. But when it became my favorite was probably the Nothing Happened scene and also when Kuma is chasing the strawhats in Sabaody. Just the way they clearly care so much for each other and their dreams where Zoro first protects Sanji in Thriller Bark, and then Sanji is worried enough about Zoro in Sabaody to protect him over Nami??? Yeaaaahhhh I started falling down the Zosan well pretty deep after that lmao
I think what makes Zosan fun is that they fight ALL the time but it's like...play fighting lmao?? If you've ever had cats where they just bat at each other and wrestle but they don't really hurt each other, it's all in good fun and then they snuggle up to each other? That's the Zosan dynamic to me lmaooo. But also under that I think they trust and respect each other more than anyone, both in a fight but also with what they view as the worst parts of themselves. Lots of potential with them I think (also VERY interested to see how the Wano oath will come back around because it will...)
Hmm I think sometimes when people write Zosan they either lean too much into domestic sappy lovers or just straight up toxic lmao. They are the pinnacle of cranky old married couple so when they don't make fun of each other anymore or playfight well..that's not Zosan lol, but then sometimes people go way to far the other way where they don't like each other at all and scream at each other and miscommunicate and that's just not any fun either, there's a balance.
MobRei
Don't Ship It
Usually I don't like an aged up ship unless you're aging up both characters, it's hard for me to get past an age gap that big because it colors so much of the dynamic. Even aging them up I think I couldn't stop imagining Reigen as the cringefail older brother/mentor type of figure to Mob.
Hmm honestly maybe aging Reigen down to Mob's age might be ok? As like a childhood friends kind of thing instead? I still don't think I would see that as romantic though.
Hmmm I think this one just isn't for me sorry
Satosugu
Ship it
God, what doesn't make me ship it? I know Ij ust made a post yesterday where I was like "You could interpret them as brothers!" and like, you COULD but this feels like the most obvious romantic subtext of all time with every scene they have. But I started shipping them when I read Hidden Inventory/Premature Death, and then the ship became really solidified with a JJK 0 reread and with the Gojo sealing scene. Gay disasters of all time.
I've talked about this a bit before but just the way that there is nobody else for them, nobody will understand Gojo like Geto does and vice versa. They are a pair, until they suddenly aren't, and neither really know how to navigate that. I think they embody a lot of the core themes of JJK really well, about love and death and corruption and loneliness. I think there are just a lot of different avenues to explore them, from pre HI arc to Geto's descent to the 10 years in between to JJK 0 and to Shibuya. They really do it all lmao, and of course, I am tragedy enjoyer first and foremost and they deliver.
Geto gets woobified waaaayyy too much by satosugu lovers. He is undeniably a victim under the jujutsu system and his struggles are very painful and even sympathetic, but I think some satosugu fans really erase his flaws way too much and end up blaming Gojo for everything? Which I think is wildly unfair.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Animation Talk/Opinion (?)
Don't really have a great grasp on a title, but here's an interaction from Twitter between two JJK S2 animators Vann Oba, and Dorian Coulon. Images for both because since finding the tweet Oba has deleted the thread, and shortly thereafter Coulon removed their response.
If it wasn't obvious, this a respectful move between fellow animators for something that got a little heated/opinionated, so it's important to not fault or attack either.
That said, the ideas represented in these tweets feel important and interesting to discuss given the post from kViN just yesterday.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, allow me to provide an exterior thought process on the opinions of the interaction, even though I'm not in the industry directly.
I think, truthfully the proof is in the pudding. Let me explain. When Coulon says "Sakkan", they mean "Animation Director", the person in charge of making sure everything looks clean and nice and correct. It's a very important role for maintaining the quality of the series and accuracy of character drawings, so a lot of the time you'll see character designers credited as "Chief Animation Director" where they'll oversee the series to keep things on model.
A large number of animation directors does not necessarily mean things are bad, though, so it's important to take a look at your production at a large scale.
So, let's look at the latest episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2- episode 13.
This is what we have for animation directors, and I think immediately, the structure proposed by the list of directors is questionable.
The titles (on the left), are as follows: Chief Animation Director, Assistant Chief Animation Director, Animation Director, Assistant Animation Director.
Tumblr media
But lets dig a little deeper and get a little weird. The two staff credit with Chief Animation Direction are Yousuke Yajima and Mitsue Mori. Neither are one of the two lead character designers for the series (Mori is credited as sub-character designer, however).
Getting into Assistant Chief Animation Director though, Sayaka Koiso is credited (they are one of two Character Designers). Interestingly enough though, Souta Yamazaki is credited under the Assistant Chief role, and this is their first time (really) on animation direction for the series. I say that because in the episode (episode 5) that Yamazaki directs, they were also the animation director. Which isn't that uncommon, but I'd say in a time crunched production like this can be a questionable decision. Especially because of Yamazaki's mold breaking tendencies within Jujutsu Kaisen.
Anyways, search and search away, you will not find the second character designer for Jujutsu Kaisen on this list. In fact, you won't find him mentioned anywhere else than Character Designer, in any episode this season.
Again, I really do need to stress that this sort of thing isn't "bad" necessarily, but I believe that within the larger scope of production struggles, having only half of your character designer duo doing animation direction isn't the greatest thing ever.
Now, just to wrap things up on this aspect. Only one character designer appears as an AD (Animation Director), and they're an Assistant Chief rather than actual chief. You have twenty-one animation directors total, the undeniable record for a JJK TV production (JJK 0's movie totals 25 ADs across all positions, which is on the high end for even a movie). You have plenty of people without experience in the role of animation director (not assistant). And it isn't just a one-off issue with the scope of the production.
I know, it's a lot of information, but this next piece really ties a bow on my whole point here.
Tumblr media
That is, a lot of second key animators. Now, you might be wondering, "well what does a second key animator do, really?". If I were to summarize it as simply as possible, they are a step between key animator and animation director that is responsible for cleaning things up before it gets to the director. Effectively, a way to fix things here and there so that the director is not entirely overloaded.
Once more, I will stress that this in and of itself isn't always an indication of something necessarily.... but when you see a list that takes up almost the whole screen you can surmise that what the KAs are producing isn't the greatest ever.
So, time to finally pull it together. Episode 13 was a fight for the moments that it gave viewers, and is the most shining example of the incorrectness of Oba's tweet, and the justification of Coulon's.
Why?
Well, imagine this. You're doing LO/KA, you're on a crappy schedule and short on time and resources. You need to squeeze something out the door, so you do. It's not great, it's got issues, but it's done. Issue is, that "not great" isn't up to snuff, so you call in second key animators to deal with it. This batch of "not great" really mustn't have been that good because of how many there were, and how many animation directors remained to correct.
The point of this all is that Coulon's statement is not only correct, but incredibly important in how the industry is being shaped and how things happen.
LOs/KAs should be good. They don't have to be perfect, or even great, but they should be good. The idea (unless you're someone on the level of Yutaka Nakamura) shouldn't be to "provide animation", but rather provide a framework for your cut. Provide something so that you don't need a mountain of 2KAs and a pile of ADs.
But that sentiment only tells a fraction of the story. Not everyone wants to hand in low level work, in fact kViN's post that I talked about the other day references the regret and dismay voiced by many animators due to subpar work they've done due to scheduling and timelines. The whole point is that while it's a dangerous mindest that Oba posted about (and has already deleted), there is still plenty of onus on the approach of the companies that ask for so much from such little time.
So yeah, the Jujutsu Kaisen production is struggling with all its might, and while some may stem from the approaches of individuals such as Oba (though we have no possible way to confirm this is how they choose to approach Layouts), quite a lot is the fault of the framework given to the individuals as it promotes lackluster effort and freelancing.

as one of the only people who submitted lelouch (or thought they had LMAO i was very clear in my form response about it) i am kissing the other anon with tongue who also asked about lelouch lamperouge....... we are cosmically intertwined over time and space and you will stab me just like suzaku did. also if i may ask did we get any jjk / doki doki literature club / black sails characters because i forgor to submit monika and geto last minute. and also i'm kinda surprised that john silver did not get a confirmed spot as of yet because from what i've seen black sails is decently popular.... hm any o7 to you for putting up with this much giving you lapsong tea in compensation for all the religion drama oh lord
4 different jujutsu kaisen characters with only satoru gojo getting 2 submissions. shockingly 0 ddlc submissions which is WEIRD because i SWEAR i saw a monika submission but now i cant find it, i went over the entire spreadsheet looking for her yesterday. 2 black sails submissions, both for john silver

So I have all eng volumes of JJK + the guidebook, and all I need is 0 to have all of them (rn).
So i ordered one.
In January.
It said it would arrive on April 25th.
Hasnt arrived.
So we contact the company (bc I got a used one) and we’re like “hey bucko, where’s the goods?” They make us fill out a form, TO SAY WE NEVER GOT IT EVEM THOUGH WE JUST EMAILED THEM AND TOLD THEM? Anyway, they refunded the astonishing $6.
So then we order it off eBay.
It arrived yesterday.
Guess what.
It was in German.
and so my journey continues 😔
