breakdown from this whole arc bc i mentioned there were little tidbits of information/tiny details throughout!

a borrowed hoodie

✩ ah yes this hoodie was also used here from our unnamed sim. we'll get to know more about him in the far future but alas, he is somewhat of a lingering whisper

eye contact

✩ within the first few frames of that convo i had taryn maintaining eye contact with with the end table until in the next post it was revealed what she was looking at and in that earlier conversation she pieced together what secret atlas had been hiding. adding to that, a lot of the frames she was in it was in a perspective of her observing

a breakdown of dynamics

✩ in my little brain i feel like these two frames puts into perspective his relationship with his friends but more specifically, his sister, frances. his shoulders almost curl up in that first photo and his demeanor shifts in that moment. how many time did she experience him like this and how much shame he must've felt every. single. time. so much so that he's done an excellent job at hiding it up until now

cool versus warm tones

✩ taryn reminds me a bit of sunlight while atlas reminds me of moonlight so i wanted to play off of that concept and add warmth to taryn's frame while atlas was much cooler and seeing the slight blending of colors of two contradictions coming together

my freaking obsession with styling

✩ in the intro of this, atlas is still wearing his outfit from the previous scene except his hair is much more unkept and throughout he has this smudged layer of eyeshadow like he's applied it, cried, and reapplied it some more. then we have taryn's put-together hair and outfit only to to come undone as the chaos of the night overwhelms her

Betrayal for Unnamed: Has your OC ever been betrayed by someone they thought they could trust? Has your OC ever betrayed someone who trusted them?

⌾⃝ OMG this one is so good SO GOOD U DON'T UNDERSTAND- ok SO! Yes, Unnamed is ultimately betrayed by Atlas. I would say Unnamed is very much a do whatever the fuck you want kinda guy but if there's one thing he asks you to not do, it's for good reason. There was one thing, one thing, he asked Atlas not to do and what does this fucker do? The thing that in the end brings their relationship to a close. HOWEVER, he's also a bit of a hypocrite because he also betrays Atlas in a different way but this doesn't end their relationship. Their relationship is quite volatile and once Atlas comes to this understanding, he still gravitates towards Unnamed until Atlas fucks up. Bad.

Mistake for Atlas: What's the worst mistake your OC ever made? What led to them making it? Have they been able to fix it? How have they moved on?

☾ So piggybacking on the previous ask, Atlas makes a huge mistake with Unnamed when he was seventeen. While he was already in some deep shit around that time, all self-inflicted of course, it ends up backfiring on him and affecting the one important person in his life. Which is honestly the last thing Atlas wants to do because at the end of the day, he knows what it's like to hurt so he doesn't want to inflict it on others. It's a huge reason why he lies to people because if it hurts less, then good. OK OFF TRACK so he's still figuring out how to fix it but sometimes you can't turn the clock backwards so he has to eventually come to terms with it.

Desire for Frances: What's one thing your OC wants more than anything in the world? Are they open with that desire? Why or why not? What would they do to fulfill it?

𖦹 BOOF! Stability for sure! Frances feels like life has always been unstable with them and it started the day she and her brother were put up for adoption. While she doesn't remember too much of it, it was an early memory and did set a tone for her life. She is incredibly grateful for Elliot and Toni for taking them in but things started to go out of whack in high school and after certain events, she made herself a few promises: Not to rely on her parents and to do anything to stabilize. She's quite open about it, her friends attempt to help her out, especially in the beginning because Frances will do anything to meet that goal. In school, she made sure to take all of the accelerated classes and secure a scholarship. In college, before working for Icarus, they did so many odd jobs. I would say the one misstep Frances took was she got so tired of her dorm roommate, she moved out on her own and that was what put her in a financial pinch which is when we meet her.

Alone for Icarus: How does your OC deal with loneliness? Have they ever been completely alone before? How do they act when there's no one around to see them?

◍ Being alone is the one time Icarus can truly be himself. It's the moment when he can unclench the jaw, lower the shoulders and unwind. He's not uncomfortable with being alone, when his parents died, Aponi would argue that he did it too much but it was his way of grieving. He hasn't been completely alone because family is always around the corner. I would say he's a bit sillier, a lot more loose and fluid. In the recent story post, he's still a bit more put together around Frances (with little pops of his personality) but the more he gets comfortable around them, we'll start to see that side of him and the dialogue there makes me chuckle hehe!

Midnight for Kai: What keeps your OC up at night? Do they have nightmares? Fears? Anxieties? What do they do in the small hours of the morning when they should be sleeping?

✿ I think Kai's crush on Atlas brings up the bigger question on being gay in a religious community, especially one that is less accepting. When you're apart of something for such a long time, even if it isn't aligned with yourself, sometimes we seek approval from that because it's a community, it's a feeling of belonging so you don't want to be the odd one out. Kai holds a lot of shame for his identity because it's been drilled in his mind that it's wrong so for that shame to be uncovered, keeps him up at night. He likes to game a lot when he's feeling this way/unable to sleep because it's a form of escapism from these problems, he can pretend for a bit to be someone else.

Skin for Taryn: How comfortable is your OC in their skin? Do they grapple with anything that lives inside them—a beast, a curse, a failure, a monster? How do they face the smallest, weakest, most horrible version of themself? Are they able to acknowledge it at all?

𖤓 Ok so. Current Taryn is not comfortable in her skin. When she told Atlas "I keep asking myself why you’re so nice to me all of a sudden. Why would someone like you be around someone like me and it’s such a… Mind-fuck." while it was about their confusing situation, the low-confidence towards herself automatically equated that Atlas just wanted a one night stand. Taryn does view herself as undesirable, she really doesn't see herself as beautiful so she's dealing with that version of herself and it's heartbreaking to say the least. She acknowledges it completely and in a way it makes decisions for her. Facing this current self brings a lot of hopelessness and while she does enjoy her time around Atlas, hearing his compliments flies over her head because she's so lost in herself and that to me... Is a tragedy. She is slowly getting better, I think her setting boundaries and speaking up is her doing right by herself but damn does the rejection of her publishing book stings.

ok on the topic of couples and music

i really like to blend music taste that flows well when put together like for example

- Frances and Icarus, Icarus enjoys more new wave with a hint of 90’s alt/rock meanwhile Frances loves to listen to goth and grunge music so when I think of them combined I think of artists like Mazzy Start, etc etch

- Then there’s Atlas and Taryn. Atlas’s music taste is much more emotional and sort of melancholic while Taryn is a bit more indie with a hint of folk. So together I think of dreamy bands like Beach House and Foxes in Fiction

- Another pairing I try not to disclose too much LOL but I think about is Ares and Dan. I think a lot about how Ares favorite band is The Strokes and Dan likes more groovier artists like Tame Impala and Still Woozy so when I blend that I think of The Marias

What kind of “drunk” are your characters? A sad drunk, happy drunk, sassy drunk. (Feel free to expand on what they would do, like start singing, make food, pet all the cats)

Hi! Omg so...

I feel like Dan and Kai are silly, I just revised a scene of them when they're drunk and their banter flows really well together. They definitely crack plenty of jokes.

Adding to that, Dan does hate it whenever people sour the mood, she likes to make sure things stay lighthearted and she does like to enjoy her drink!

Frances is really emotional when she's drunk either everything makes her cry or fills her with glee, you can usually catch her by the corner sobbing if there's a cute animal

Gum is a happy drunk, she loves to make sure everyone is feeling the good spirits. She'll dance to that silly song with you, the one you desperately want to go to the dancefloor for but are scared to be alone. Definitely a happy yes man!

Ares reminds me of a butterfly, he's quite talkative and open. He usually doesn't get drunk though, just because he likes to maintain somewhat of a grip on himself so it is quite rare!

Syx is for sure a sassy drunk, her thoughts become somewhat unfiltered, she would easily get into a fight if prompted like when she saw Violet, she was ready to SWING

Gabriel's charisma goes from 0 to 1000 bro literally becomes suave like da shampoo. He talks up a storm to anyone around him and usually makes a couple of new friends while doing so

Icarus.... I swear to god, nothing phases this man... He hardly gets drunk simply because it is difficult for him to get drunk. He could be five drinks in and completely calm

Taryn thinks a lot and little does she know, she's a lightweight. Up until this point, she's never had a drink before, however, she overthinks a lot

Atlas on the other hand is super bubbly and somewhat flirtatious but isn't he always? HAH sorry! But he just gets overly affectionate with others and will not lose out on an opportunity to say I love you to everyone. However, there's an opposite effect if he's in a bad headspace, he can be quite volatile and that in itself is a dangerous place to be

Taryn: You wanna tell me what’s going on?

Atlas: I… Have you ever had an itch that doesn’t go away? You try to ignore it, but that only makes it worse. And there are certain things that cause flare ups. The feeling gets so loud until you finally can’t take it anymore. So you scratch, and you keep scratching until you’ve made a mess of things.

Taryn: Am I the only person that knows?

Atlas: Generally speaking, yes. From what my friends are aware of, I’ve been sober for six months and… Twelve days.

Taryn: And is this all that you use? Or are there others?

Atlas: For the most part. 

Taryn: Huh.

Atlas: I really didn’t want you to see me like this.

Taryn: I know. Trust me, I know you must feel embarrassed, maybe a bit terrified, but I’m here. Incredibly worried out of my mind, but here.

Atlas: I‘m sorry.

Taryn: No need. 

Atlas: I want to get better, really. I’ve found it to be rather difficult though. 

Taryn: Is there anything I can do to help?

Atlas: I’ve never been asked that.

Taryn: Well, I’d like to be a part of you getting better. If… You’ll allow me.

Atlas: It’s not gonna be pretty.

Taryn: You threw up on me like three times yesterday, I’m aware.

Atlas: [ snorts ] I mean aside from that. Taryn, I genuinely believe this isn’t something that will go away. 

Taryn: We can always start somewhere, this doesn’t have to be an ultimatum. 

Atlas: I- Okay. Thank you.

Taryn: Of course. Hey. so, I’m gonna wash this then give it back to you if that’s alright.

Atlas: Oh, yeah. You can keep it if you want, it belonged to an old friend of mine. 

Taryn: I wouldn’t want to steal your clothes, besides, I don’t know if it looks good on me. I feel like a potato sack in hoodies.

Atlas: It suits you. 

Taryn: Potato sacks?

Atlas: [ groans ] No, NO! You know what I mean. 

Taryn: [ laughs ] You gonna be okay if I head out? 

Atlas: Mhm. How bad is the mess?

Taryn: You might have an aneurysm. Just a tiny one though.

Atlas: Lovely.

Taryn: No. I didn’t see him last night.

Atlas: Listen so I was thinking, your boss seems like an advocate of peer pressure, so what if I helped you and then we dipped out of here?

Atlas: [ clears throat ]

Taryn: Don’t.

Atlas: “About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire.”

Taryn: Give me the book.

Atlas: “Second, there was a part of him-and I didn’t know how potent that part might be-that thirsted for my blood.”

Taryn: give. You’re going to get me fired. 

Atlas: Bee, your boss is not doing you any favors by keeping you here. Let me help all at the cost of zero dollars.

Taryn: Look, I know it might’ve seemed like I was forced to stay but it’s okay, I swear. I said yes anyways so there’s no use in being upset about it. As for you wanting to help, I appreciate the offer, truly, but I can’t ask this of you. 

Atlas: What if I kept you company? I won’t touch anything. Swear. 

Taryn: Spending the evening in a slightly smelly library is not how most people envision their Friday nights.

Atlas: What can I say? I love the smell of mildew and books.

Taryn: I would not admit that to anyone else. 

Atlas: That’s fair.

Taryn: Oh man, yes. She’s my hopeless romantic and venus dominant. This honey wants to be saturated in love. She’s super hopeful that one day she’ll wake up to the sun glimmering on her lover. 

Ares: He’s in love with the idea of marriage but I feel as if ten years down the road he’ll realize that his person isn’t for him. It’s almost as if he’s in love with an illusion.

Atlas: He doesn’t think you need to be married to be happy but he isn’t opposed to the idea.

Frances: Frances in a wedding dress? Not likely. They prefer their space from others. 

Syx: Lmaoooo this bonch is the type of person to accidentally get married and cheat on their partner five times. Definitely not one to commit and is more into the idea of polyamorous relationships.

Dan: Dan wouldn’t mind marriage as long as it didn’t keep her from independence.

Kai: Honestly, he’d be an AMAZING husband, but his world is too bleak to even consider it.

Gum: Is actually afraid of marriage because she is gay. She’s heard so many disturbing stories about married lgbt couples getting harassed or even killed. She keeps her relationships on the down-low.

- Honestly this group in general has reminded me of Syx the more I write/learn about her.

F R A N C E S: Hey - The Pixies or Monkey’s Gone to Heaven - The Pixies

- Something about the Pixies will always remind me of Frances. It was the song that started playing when I was in CAS and they just give me a sense of isolation and deranged behavior. I just picture Frances drenched in sweat at one of their concerts while on acid.

G U M: Melting - Kali Uchis

- Leo queen stanning other Leo queens? Yes. But honestly, this song is so mellow and it just reminds me of Gum’s passive, dreamy behavior. 

T A R Y N: Black Memories - The Growlers

- Notorious for not letting go, this song is about being left with grief after a tremendous heartbreak. Taryn has a tendency to gamble her heart to strangers only to be left to mend the pieces. The whole album, Chinese Fountain reminds me of her.

D A N: Femme - Le Couleur

- Femme just reminds me of a girl in red shades, driving down a California coastline, forgetting about a previous lover. Dan has such an independent character without even trying yet she manages to keep her femininity. Her songs make me feel empowered with a hint of delicacy. 

K A I: Halloween - Shakey Graves

- This song makes me a bit emotionally, honestly. It has such a melancholy feel to it. I can’t quite give you a song meaning behind it, part of me thinks death, another part makes me think it’s about someone who is caged. It just reminds me of Kai’s sad character and his battle with the loneliness that comes with depression.

A T L A S: Will He - Joji or I’ll Be Around - The Growlers

- I am so attracted to the way that Joji says “my lips” idfk man. OKOKOK but no this song is fucking dark okay. I was reading about this song and Joji sorta left it up to the listener. To me it talks about a heartbroken lover but I also think there’s a sense of obsession, almost toxic, behavior. I feel like on the exterior, Atlas isn’t too bad, however there were times in his past that he clung onto people in an unhealthy manner. He found himself manipulating others just so they could stay. At some point, relationships made him a messy, messy person.

- I’ll Be Around reminds me of Atlas waking up from a party, completely shitfaced. He’s covered in booze and limbs on top of him, not remembering where he found the glasses sitting on top of his head. He absolutely loves the feeling of dancing while high or drunk. I think there’s a scene in the music video where Brooks has a camera in front of him and he’s just looking around frantically while the room is spinning... It’s just an Atlas aesthetic. Partying “til the sun comes up.”

- In my humble onion, this song makes me feel for these two. Like if you wanna cry for some reason, listen to this song!!! Idc imma make a video on them JUST YOU WAIT!!! Anyway, this song as a nostalgic, dreamlike feel to it. My heart feels so full when I heart it. It just reminds me of two lost souls meeting once again. I just imagine the two starring at each other, inches away, with such passion in their eyes. I imagine the two being afraid of their own emotions towards one another and the feeling of vulnerability when they collide. I just... I CAN’T WAIT TO INTRODUCE THESE TWO!!! *SHAKES FINGER* 

A R E S: The Less I Know the Better - Tame Impala

- This song reminds me of a lusty teenager enamored by the idea of someone. I feel like Ares spends a lot of time in his head daydreaming about intimacy and the idea of being with someone. I like that this song also talks about jealousy because I feel as if he’d grow a bit hurt to see his crush with someone that isn’t him. I don’t know, this song is a bop!
