Ben, what's your favorite thing about Nathan?

Such a question seemed impossible. How, after all, could one ever truly determine a favorite thing about their loved ones?

With a soft, bittersweet smile, Ben rolled his cup of ale around and around between his hands, serving as a proper distraction to avoid the inevitable. The truth was, he still blamed himself...the thought of Hale was always akin to a blister, acute and painful, and lingering like a stark brand against his skin.

“I’m not so sure I can choose,” Ben softly offered. “I could be cliché and commend his bravery -- something he very much deserves -- but that’s what everyone says of him. They don’t know him as I did...as I do.”

And just like with Samuel, his memory was fleeting and scattered to the wind, possibly doomed to never be remembered in the way he deserved.

Dropping his face down into his open palm, Ben exhaled once, loud and heavy, before wiping over his mouth and looking up again. “He brought me out of myself,” he finally said. “I was always...comfortable with him. I never had to hide. And out here, being forced to do exactly that -- hide -- it’s a comfort to remember that not so long ago, I had a place to turn...to be who I truly am.”

Arguably, Ben had that with Abraham and Caleb as well, but it had never been quite the same. He could recall poring over texts with Hale by firelight, discussing hopes and dreams and girls and feeling safe in an otherwise uncertain world. It pained Ben that he hadn’t been able to return that same sense of security -- that he hadn’t been able to keep Hale safe from the pending n.oose.

“I’m sorry, I...I don’t feel I can answer this,” Ben stammered. “Not properly.” Not in the way he deserved.

All of this is subject to change, as some of the ROs could be removed, barring the first, or changed in some way, but here’s what I have for the most part.

Angelus/Angelina Sinclair

The one that brought you into your new reality. A person that’s been searching for you throughout the various realities, a being that wouldn’t rest until they were reunited with you once more. The Variant MC, the one that had been alive within the world, had been a deeply loving relationship with Angel. To the point that when Angel lost “you”, they vowed to find any way to bring you back to them. No matter the cost.

They are highly dangerous, one should tread with caution when near them.

Character Inspiration: Scarlet Witch

Nathan/Natasha Volkoff

The de-facto leader of the superhero team that Angel used to be apart of. A person that’s hard to read on a good day, but holds a strong loyalty within their heart. They’re adamant on bringing you back where you belong, as you don’t belong within this world. Even if seeing you brings up a slew of emotions, of memories, that they’d rather keep buried. They were the best friend of Archangel.

Character Inspiration: Black Widow (yes, I spaced when naming Natasha… I got attached to name though)

Taran/Tara Hale

Your Variants best friend. A person that you had apparently known since childhood. Someone who either brightens the moment they see you or looks physically ill. With a largely gentle personality, a beaming smile, and general extroverted mentality, you sometimes wonder about the dark looks that etch across their face when they think no one is looking. Will you be able to get close enough to them? Or will they always run before you can?

Noah Reese

A new recruit that seems to just be trying to make his own way on the team. Though you get the feeling that he knows more about you than he lets own— if his continuous glances tell you anything. You’re not sure what to make of him, and he’s apparently not sure what to make of you either, but you’re going to be stuck here for a while— might as well make the best of it?

Elena Valdez

A woman that keeps to herself more often than not. She doesn’t seem to mind your presence, but she also doesn’t seem to enjoy it that much either. As long as you keep your distance, and keep your tone relatively low, she stays within her own area of the compound. She seems to not believe in love, or honestly in the work she’s found herself in, which begs the question why she’s doing all of this? Only time will tell…

how good or bad are our boys at braiding and styling hair, and would they ever let you have a go at theirs?

For having a few sisters, Nathan Hale is average at the subject. He can do a basic braid, and definitely knows how to tie a ponytail, but anything else…he’s consulting a book or tutorial. He enjoys running his fingers through your hair, gently prying away any knots they may have come your way. and of course you can brush his hair, he actually really likes it when you do so. give him a few baby braids to frame his face and he’ll leave them there for a day or two.

Benjamin Tallmadge has no idea what you’re asking of him. He can do a very basic braid on his own hair, but good luck getting him to even attempt it on you without having a bunch of knots. he likes to comb your hair after a shower, you never ask him to, but he always finds you to do it. Ben likes to think even though it’s typically a moment of silence, it’s full of so much love. He’d never ask you to brush his hair, but sometimes you surprise him rounding a corner with his brush, and he’ll never object.

I’d like to think Caleb Brewster sometimes goes a bit without brushing his hair, and when he finally remembers after a few days, you’re chasing him with a comb to try and get it before it’s too late. It’s not that he’s unhygienic he’s just…Caleb. He probably runs his fingers through it in the shower and calls that a comb. Yet he LOVES to brush and braid your hair, he likes it in the morning when it has that soft wave to it. He’s actually pretty good at it, they’re tight and they don’t need to be redone after a little while.

Yeah…no. George Washington has no idea how to do anything that’s even remotely close to a braid, but, some of his favorite moments is when you offer to brush out the knots that have made their way into his ponytail throughout the day. He, in turn, will return the favor. He’s not vain, of course you can touch his hair, he’ll probably grumble about his grey it is, but you just wave him off. You know that if you don’t do this, he will defy neglect the act if drowned in work

Marquis de Lafayette definitely can braid, and damn I definitely think he’s the best at it. Plaits, Dutch, French, he’s very good at them, and he can do them pretty fast. Like Nathan, he enjoys running his fingers through your hair, it’s a symbol of affection, especially if he does it subconsciously sometimes. If you are ever just sitting next to him with your hair down, he’s all over you and you can’t help but bob your head yes. You don’t even have to ask to play with his hair, so he says, but you always do, and you are always surprised by just how soft it is. He likes it when you braid his ponytail, he’ll definitely leave it in as long as he can.

Ensign Thomas Baker knows next to nothing. he definitely knows how to put his own hair up, and he probably could replicate it if you needed an extra pair of hands to put yours in a ponytail, but that’s about it. He’d love it if you taught him how to braid, he thinks it looks so pretty, especially on you. sure, you can do his hair! he’d probably take anything out (barrettes or clips) before he left, but if you braid his hair, he’d definitely going to leave it in! And if you try and take it out, saying it looks bad or you missed a strand, he’ll likely run away from you so you don’t stand a chance of touching it. He loves it.

The grumpiest of all, Alexander Hamilton, will definitely not partake in any of your styling, so he says. it’s cause he’s a busy, or he doesn’t want to, or whatever nonsense he’s come up with for the day. So instead, you walk up behind his desk and take his hair band out, and just as he spins to glower at you, you’re brushing his red locks and he can’t help but melt at the touch. In rarer moments of affection, he will definitely comb your hair out after a bath, or if you are unwell. He’s an emotionally constipated gremlin, just kiss his cheek and tell him to relax. he’s really bad at braids though, don’t expect that of him-your hair will be in knots before very long.

I have posted 21 works, though I very recently deleted one of them because I had initially put it up as an Evil Author Day offering and it's been reshaped enough since then that I felt it was time to let the old version go. Plus, I'd initially meant for it to be part one of a three-part arc, and that arc has since changed to feature a different pairing entirely, so...

I'm a "one at a time" kind of writer, so right now, only Teen Wolf. In the past, under a few separate names, I've written for BtVS and Angel, HP, KH, SPN, Heroes, and I was just getting started on Inception when I had to take a break from writing.

Do you respond to comments?

Every single one of them. It may take me months to do so, but every comment brings me joy, and some of my most treasured fandom moments/connections have come from comment interactions.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't think I have a fic that ends in angst. At the moment, Wish You Were Here might fit this bill because I've only posted the first chapter and it's about avoiding dealing with the unexpected death of a loved one. There was one I wrote for Heroes, back in the day, that was solely about Peter burning his mother alive, so yeah, that probably qualifies--it's not on AO3, though.

Do you get hate on fics?

Not so much hate, no, but every once in a while a comment might criticize a character's actions or make suggestions on how they personally would've written a scene, etc. Any outright hate I've ever received for my fics has come from a site other than AO3.

Do you write smut?

Almost exclusively. Nearly every time I'm drafting out a fic for Teen Wolf, particularly when it's Sterek, I'll have a "then sex if there's time for it" note, and Derek barges in with that determined "I'll make time" face, so...

Craziest crossover:

So... uh... the entire reason I started writing fanfic again was because I got smacked in the face with a crossover/fusion idea for Teen Wolf and Skyrim. Other than that, Teen Wolf and Fallout, Teen Wolf and Inception, Teen Wolf and Supernatural...

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Once, years ago. It wasn't the entire fic, but it was a sizeable chunk of one, and the names had been changed for the "author's" chosen pairing/fandom, but apparently they liked my wording so much that they didn't feel the need to come up with their own.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! Also years ago.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes indeedy. Co-writing is one of my absolute favorite ways of writing. Co-creativity is my jam, the energy feeds me. I've written KH fic with @caseyvalhalla, and I've cowritten Teen Wolf fic with my not!wife, Anna. It is my hope to continue to do so with other people, should our visions/writing styles align. I've got one fic in particular that I think at this point is going to need a co-writer so I don't lose focus.

All time favourite ship?

Sterek. I adore many other ships, some of them hold a special place in my heart and I will always come back to read them, but Sterek is the one that gripped me over a decade ago and hasn't let me go since. Like @oldefashioned said, I think it's because I love the characters individually as much as I love them together.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I still haven't actually verged into "doubt I ever will" territory yet, but two WIPs that have been begging to be finished for a while now are Wish You Were Here (Kingdom Hearts) and Light Up as If You Have a Choice (Dragon Age: Origins).

What are your writing strengths?

I don't know. Dialogue? Establishing a setting? That answer might require a survey from other people who actually bother to read my fics.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Not being able to move on until I have a scene "perfect." If I'm stuck on getting from Point A to Point B, I am mentally incapable of jumping ahead to Point C--it is Point B or Point Bust.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I tend to avoid it if the translation starts to read too much like an index, or like I'm writing a conversation twice over. However, if the other language is vital to the narrative (i.e. a character says something in a language they know the other person won't understand, etc.) then yes, I write it in that language, rather than something like, "'blah blah,' he said in Polish."

Depending on the fandom, Freaks and Fools was a Kingdom Hearts fic I co-wrote, and more recently, I'd have to say my favorite Teen Wolf fic to write is a toss-up between You Gotta Promise Not to Stop When I Say When and My Echo, My Shadow, and Me. Promise because it is just me writing myself via Stiles, wishing I had a Derek; Echo because I'd wanted to write an alternate version of season 3a for a while, and I finally got to do it, thanks to the Sterek Reverse Bang.

Nathan had such a different relationship with his parents, than Haley had with hers. She had seemed so sad, about her parents being gone. Did they have a lot of money? Did they probably need to pay a bill with the money they had? Was there a chance the car would break down? The answer was likely yes.

But, she was his girl…his wife. She was his family, and if she missed her parents, he’d take her to see them. They were his family too. Getting out of the house took a while. He swore that packing took her a while. There were always snacks involved, too. She was a good road trip person.

But now, they were in the middle of nowhere and he looked over at her. “Do you even know where to find your parents, Hales? Or are we just searching all of Atlanta?”

The thing that always amused me about the letter he wrote to his mother when he was back in New York is that when he's talking about how terrible Carlisle was, and how it was full of Scotch-Irish Presbyterians that, well, hated fun ("utter enemies to the abomination of curled hair, regal government, minced pies, and other heathenish vanities" - that's in Flexner but may be quoted elsewhere too) is that both the Presbyterians and the Huguenots were Calvinists, and I always thought it was Calvinism that hated fun, so was there some point in the André family history when they hated fun? Though Professor Wikipedia tells me that most of the Huguenots were from the middle class and the nobility, so maybe they never hated fun that much.

Also, I have no idea whether the prisoner exchange Simcoe is swapped at is supposed to bear any resemblance to reality (the real Simcoe was taken prisoner at one point and returned in an exchange, but it, unsurprisingly, didn't bear much resemblance to what happened in the show), but there was a prisoner exchange that took place in the real world around the time the show one happened, and it's actually the one that André was exchanged at.

Someone - and I can't remember who, and it's driving me buggy because it's very sensible - said Tallmadge's retelling of the exchange between him and André ("I had a beloved friend from Yale named Nathan Hale. Do you remember what happened to him?" "Yes, but his case and mine are completely different.") is unlikely to have happened quite the way he claimed because he probably had to explain to André who Nathan Hale was because André wasn't in New York when Hale died.

(I'm also not sure when Hale became important to people other than, like, Tallmadge. And Hale's other friends and family, of course. Somewhere on archive.org, there's the text of a speech which I am too lazy to find again in honor of the dedication of a monument to André's captors at some point in the mid-late 19th century, where the speaker suddenly out of nowhere starts complaining about how Hale was so much more noble than André, just compare their last words, how come we don't have any monuments for Nathan Hale, huh? Which I imagine absolutely thrilled the Paulding/Williams/Van Wart families. Like I'm sorry, was this Complain About How People Don't Care About Nathan Hale Day? No, it's Talk About How Great John Paulding, David Williams, And Isaac Van Wart Are Day. It was hilarious.)

Ngl some of Ben's "sexist" scenes are entirely valid.

I get secondhand embarrassment every time I watch the scene of Anna meeting Washington cause girl WHAT are you doing?? You don't just make commands of THE George Washington? On top of that, Ben tried his best to give her SOMETHING. He got her a whole ass cart and gave her a way to move and operate between the camp sides when everyone else had tents or less, and she didn't express any gratitude. You don't just roll up to an army encampment and demand better treatment or opportunity than even the soldiers girly pop 😟 All Georgie knows is that you hung up a petticoat, he's not gonna give you a job before other men who have literal army experience bffr

And don't even get me started on Mary who was risking her and Abe every five minutes for no damn reason, Ben had every right to get annoyed with her 🫢

I'm feeling a little controversial, so I'll outright say that Ben wasn't really sexist for the time period. (And if we go my historical accuracy, bro literally wrote a damn essay about letting women into colleges)

If anyone is sexist, it'd be Rodgers, who anytime he's on screen with a woman, he's threatening her or putting her in danger 💅

Nathan had such a different relationship with his parents, than Haley had with hers. She had seemed so sad, about her parents being gone. Did they have a lot of money? Did they probably need to pay a bill with the money they had? Was there a chance the car would break down? The answer was likely yes.

But, she was his girl...his wife. She was his family, and if she missed her parents, he'd take her to see them. They were his family too. Getting out of the house took a while. He swore that packing took her a while. There were always snacks involved, too. She was a good road trip person.

But now, they were in the middle of nowhere and he looked over at her. "Do you even know where to find your parents, Hales? Or are we just searching all of Atlanta?"
