Hanaaa~~! 🤗🌼💞 For the ask game: 📷🎵🌼💎🌿💌
Hello Neeessyyy🌻💚🤗
📷 What’s set as your phone’s lockscreen?
I currently have a fan art of Glorious Masquerade Malleus as my lock screen. 💚💕
🎵 Last song you listened to?
Everytime We Touch By Cascada, this song really brought back memories.
🌼 What’s the last thing you said out loud?
"I want to go to Disneyland." I need a vacation and I really want to go to Disney, especially now that its being decorated for the holidays.
💎 What’s your most prized possession?
My most prized possession is the necklace with a locket that I have been wearing since I was a child. It's basically a part of me and feels wrong not to wear.
🌿 Describe your favorite outfit.
I don't have a favorite outfit. I usually love anything that's loose fitting or baggy. I do have a favorite cardigan that's Totoro inspired. I also have a cat noir hoodie I love but its wearing out sadly.
💌 Do you talk to yourself?
Yes, yes I do. Its a coping mechanism and sometimes I talk to myself for writing too to get a feel for the story. It's also part of my day dreaming too.
Thank you for sending this in ☺️🌺💞

Author's Notes: Chapter 32 (The Man in the Picture)
Yay, another chapter with a short turnaround! Don't expect this trend to continue, as I have just enrolled in full time college again and am still getting used to it.
I was very cautious with the opening of Michelle in the changing room. That scene could get very, very creepy with the wrong prose, but I think I managed to make it more endearing than "male gazey."
Speaking of male gaze, Boney! Boney's back. My original plan for Chapter 31 was to end on the scene of Michelle seeing Boney in One Size Fits All, but I decided to change it in order to avoid feeling too similar to Chapter 18 (where the chapter ends with Michelle finding Boney's dead body on the plane). That worked out for the best, too, considering Chapter 31's length.
Reread the phone call Boney has with the Grand Marshal in Chapter 30; this is where he was sent to go. I think you should have an easier time filling in the blanks now.
Michelle having a panic attack and running away was one of the easiest I've ever written in my two years of Iron Touch. I don't know what that says about me.
Midler's back! Remember, High Priestess' user? No? Too bad. My original original outline called for Mariah here instead of Midler, and she would've walked with a gimp as a result of permanent damage she received from her fight with Joseph and Avdol. I changed this for a couple reasons: first of all, I would have had to rework/add onto Bastet in order for her to work in this arc, which I didn't think a lot of people would like. Also, Demonic Heartbreak used her already, so. Y'know. I think Midler fits better in Chicago IX as a SEES member anyways.
With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that Cascada wasn't a part of the original outline, either. High Priestess was originally going to be the "main" enemy Stand of this arc, but I changed that. I cannot stress enough that readers from Fanworks have been really rallying for more original Stands in Iron Touch. This is the best of both worlds—I get my canon characters and you get your OC. Hooray! I like Cascada and Moon River's aesthetics, if nothing else.
I did look it up and yes, bees are native to Egypt.
I feel like it should be pretty obvious what SEES is and how it works by now. If not, please let me know in some way and I can give a more detailed explanation in a future chapter.
In case you didn't know: a green room is an area backstage where actors wait for their cues to go onstage. I've heard different reasons for why they're called that; sometimes it's a simplified English pronunciation of a foreign word, other times it's because actors would throw up there, and I don't know which is accurate. They're not actually green. In smaller theaters (like an amphitheater), green rooms can double as hair and makeup rooms, like what we see here.
I feel like giving Moon River a mermaid theme is a bit of a cop out, but @simpingforcreamsoda said he really liked the design, so I hope you guys do too.
Music references:
Ok so I didn't originally intend for this to be a music reference, but there is a song called The Man in the Picture by The Bobkatz. I chose the title just based on it being a double reference to both Polnareff and Boney. But I listened to the song and I think it fits pretty well so I'm adding it to the playlist. Why not.
Cascada is named after a German dance music act of the same name. (I actually didn't know Cascada was German until now, the more you know)
Cascada's beta name was Moon River at one point, but that honestly did not last long. I'm trying to avoid making OCs with two word names, because having them be one word names is so much easier to write.
Moon River gets its name from a song originally sung by Audrey Hepburn for the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. The song is so famous and has enough covers that I feel comfortable breaking my "no licensed music" rule (as in, no music originating from other media like video games or musicals) for it. The version I'm using on all the music reference playlists isn't the original Audrey Hepburn version, but rather the Andy Williams cover. I think that version specifically should give some insight as to why I chose this song. If you know, you know ;)
As a side note, "Tiffany Amphitheater" was named after Breakfast at Tiffany's.
Moon River's beta name was Hips Don't Lie, and the Stand's ability was going to be more tied to Cascada's dancing. As the ability changed, I changed the reference as well.
Not a music reference, but Midler's appearance here (specifically the buck teeth) were based off of Winifred Sanderson (played by Bette Midler) from the movie Hocus Pocus. IRL Midler has gone on record to say that this is her favorite film role of all time and she is the only reason that the sequel came out even remotely like it did, so I'm not just arbitrarily choosing a random movie reference here.

Oooh a tag game! Thank you @assaily
Name: Soso
Pronouns: she/her and sometimes I quite like 'it'
Where do you call home: Places that are familiar and quiet, nature rather than the city. I'd love to be a hermit in the wilds but I need the internet and take out to survive so...
Favourite Animal: I'm very fond of flamingos, snakes and cats (and their relatives), but dogs (and their relatives) are great too. I would love to see big reptiles in the wild someday.
Cereal of Choice: Coco Pops every damn day baby. Those golden nuggets were good too.
Are you an audio, visual, of kinesthetic learner: Half and half Visual and Kinesthetic: if I can see it I feel I can do it but only when I've done it have I learned it. Although this gives me a false sense of ability so when I see people do gymnastics or home improvement I reckon 'I could do that', I could not, in fact, do that.
First Pet: The Cat Distribution System benevolently found us a feline, who then had kittens out of the blue. Before that as a starved-for-animals child I claimed the dust moths as pets and named them all Sandy.
Favourite scent: Jasmine, tea bags, puppies and salted crisps are pretty high up there.
Do you believe in Astrology: Not really believe but I do enjoy in a passing way, I'm not a very spiritual person, sadly, I just like to think that there are supernatural things out there, its more fun. And there are some amazing patterns out there; last place I worked (animal shelter) was almost exclusively made up of Tauras Cancer and Virgo with a few Geminis and the odd Scorpio floating about, and I was there for 10 years. It's just funny.
How many playlists: 10, love a playlist.
Sharpies or Highlighters: Don't make me choose between my children.
A song that makes you cry: So God Damn Many. The Lion King opening. Cruel Summer because I've linked it to Five's trauma somehow (thanks brain). The ones who didn't make it back home. Any Disney song. Some days it's anything.
A song that makes you happy: A second vote for Westlife's When You Come Around from me xD, but also Run Away With Me by good old Carly Rae and special shout out to my Temporary Depression Cure songs: Good Luck by the Basement Jaxx, Overthinker by INZO. Also can't forget the legend that is Cascada: Every Time We Touch.
And Finally, do you Write/Draw/Create: Yes, yes and yes. I wish I had the confidence to do this full time for a living, but writing and drawing, or making or video editing or whatever I can possibly create is my soul. Both the good and that which shall never see the light of day, I love it your honor.
Zero pressure tagging: @air--so--sweet @tinned-beef @fiveapocalypse
This was fun, thanks for the tag! :D
Thanks a lot for the tag Kaz @akamikazae let's see if I can do all of them!! :3333
Name: Boro :3
Pronouns: She - Her/ They - Them
Where do you call home: I heard once that home is that place where you can go to the toilet without any problem. I would also add that is that place where you can get yourself a glass of water without asking for one.
Favorite animal: People assumed that I am a cat person, they are wrong I love every animal...also cats, felines in general.
╱|、
(˚ˎ 。7
|、˜〵
じしˍ,)ノ
Cereal of choice: I have a problem with cereals I love them!!! My favourits are honey puff like cereals and those that are squares filled with chocolate or milk. Those are ddelicious GIVE ME CEREALS!!
Are you a visual, audio, or kinesthetic learner: I remember that we have to do this test at the Uni and I was like a mix. Most of the time I doodle while taking notes and when revising stuff I need to move around my room. Also, when I am thinking in general I need music or a podcast while pacing around and a small notebook where I can write down any idea that crosses my mind or doubt while revising something. I tent to do more than one thing at once so, pacing while listening helps me so... Audio-kinasthetic-reading learner
First pet: There is a festivity here Los tres Reyes Magos, Three Wise Men, that we celebrate durign the Xmas time. That night my neighbours dog gave birth to who would be my first truthful friend. I woke up and the neighbour told us that the mother couldn't pass the night. In a small basket they got both pups, one seemed so full of energy the other one was curled up and shaking. I got the curld one without a second though and hugged them. He would be my friend for more than 10 years. I miss him a lot. He got the name of my favourite journalist ever but I keep it for myself ;) Friends know his name.
Favorite scent: Baked cookies, cinammon, but mostly flowery scents like lavender and also, please do not laugh, there is this deodorant chocolate scented ...wow.
Do you believe in astrology: I prefer to keep my thoughts to myself on this one, yet I find astrology interesting but I would not let it choose my life or stuff like that. It is very interestign to have a look at it.
How many playlists do you have on Spotify/apple music: 10
Sharpies or highlighters: Highlighters! I actually enjoy the layers that you can do with them and they got this Cyberpunk effect when done right that I love.
A song that makes you cry: ‘Fucking Perfect' by P!nk or 'The crow and the butterfly' Shinedown.
A song that makes you happy: ‘Lady Domina' Haloo Helsinki! or 'Master of the House' Les Miserables the musical... I have a problem with musicals in general.
And finally do you draw/write/create? I write and draw, a different thing is that I have the guts to call what I do something creative or even worthy. But I just do it, hoping to get better eventually... hope is the key word there. So I do both and technically create since both are creations *badum tsch* I also do tons of memes so...that's creations too, isn't it? One day I may post here those abominations that I call memes.
Hmmmm I tag @succikko-nebulae , @shinoposting , @yamanaka-shin and @spellcasterlight <3<3<3<3<3
Thanks again Kaz!!1 This was fun, I did not know that I had so many playlist on Spotify...and I use one in a loop most of the time xD.

11 or 4 for ask game 💞💖
And a free space if you would like 😜
From this art game
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
Ok some of my followers may know that i'm a huge JJBA fan, and I would def draw more jjba fanart,, if only it wasn't so hard to draw 💀💀 like the artstyle is so unique and different from the usual cutesy-anime style that I draw so when I draw I don't rlly know what I should do ASJKDJKASKJ especially with my wife@ JOLYNE CUJOH shes my muse and literally my fav female chara ever but. I CANT FUCKINF DRAW HERRRR literally I scrapped so many sketches of her bc I didn't like how it looked
This is the only art of her that I actually like how it turned out and I still struggled with it (link to the full art on my twitter)
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
Yes but it depends on what I'm drawing,, for example when I'm making general twst art that's got disney references in it I always listen to Jonathan Young's covers bc I'm a metalhead so disney songs being edgy metal covers is my SHITTT and it helps me get in the mood esp when I'm drawing villain motifs dshfdsfjdskjf
Also this is embarrassing to admit but. when I'm drawing cutesy ship stuff (jack x vic shutt up) I listen to cascada bc it takes me back to when I was 11 years old and would watch amvs of my fav pairings with cascada songs on youtube HGHGHSHA
And when I'm not listening to these 2 I just listen to eurobeat in general bc it makes me pumped to draw
(free space) 30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
THIS AZUL DRAWING I spent so much time doing the shadows and lighting and the background, I put extra effort in it cause I made it literally for an art class so 😭😭 and the Jack cosplaying K' fanart I'm so proud of the shading for that one and I think its one of the prettiest Jacks ive ever done

Top 5 fave acts from each country because idk what to do with my life now that esc is over. :') (2010 to 2021)
Germany
5. Cascada - Glorious (2013)
Listen idc if it sounds a lil like Euphoria, this gives me so much energy, and srsly, it's Cascada!!
4. Lena - Satellite (2010)
Ah yes, the winner. I might have been #teamplayingwithfire but she was good too, lyrics aside 🙄🙄 also her pronounciation kills me lmao
3. Ann Sophie - Black Smoke (2015)
Zero points. Zero. Points. On what planet did this deserve 0 points?? Love the sassy feel and her voice 😔😔
2. Michael Schulte - You let me walk alone (2018)
This absolutely didn't make me cry when I first heard it. Nope. Has such a strong message and it's just beautiful, no words needed 😔
Other faves: Is it right (that instrumental is gr8), I don't feel hate (yeah I actually lowkey liked it, no hate pls, how jendrik says)
1. Lena - Taken by a stranger (2011)
Okay, this song was way ahead of its time. I could see it participating in 2022 and wouldn't sound dated at all. Very mysterious and chill, I prefer this to Sattelite by light years.

“Contact” by Moistbreezy
DV:
A cascade of whooshes and effects, “Contact” manages to make one of the year’s best dance songs out of treble. Like yes there’s a bass here, pulsing like a heartbeat and buried in the mix. But this is a song about highs - and moistbreezy makes that literal in the production. I’m still not sure how I feel about the nostalgia wave cresting around the late 90s, but “Contact” makes a real case for revisiting peak pophouse, the pre-EDM era when every hit was either dancepop or somehow defined against it, when every synth was so polished and smooth and bright that you could hear its case gleaming through your shitty Circuit City earbuds. And moistbreezy pairs that sound with a lyric that might as well have been written for the pandemic: “Let’s go out”, she sings, “Got me thinking about/ Contact.” It’s a wish, a dream, a fantasy, and that explicit detachment from reality made the propulsive “Contact” almost comforting, this year. So many songs evoked the club, channeled it, longed for it. “Contact” made your home the dancefloor, made the wish into the song.
MG:
In its stilted language and brief, direct imagery (pink clouds, butterflies, counting down from 5) “Contact” reminds me of Eurodance floor filler like Cascada more than any factory pop music. Regardless of which bygone era you peg it to, there’s something anonymous and nostalgic about moistbreezy’s fantasy, and the fact that you can’t quite peg it to any one source of inspiration makes it addictively inscrutable. Cascada’s biggest hits came out in 2007 (“Everytime We Touch”) and 2009 (“Evacuate the Dancefloor”) bookending a devastating global recession. In the middle of nowhere Illinois I knew people who lost their shit to Cascada wearing going-out tops and cut-off mini skirts, drunk on something lightly alcoholic and bubbly. Cascada were not a strictly European phenomenon, not even a big city phenomenon, they were everywhere like some insect’s incessant hum, blaring from H&M speakers and dirty, sticky, black-floor clubs alike. “Contact” evokes all those memories but doesn’t string them along with any new memories and that lack of context is beautiful, transcendent. It feels like I’ve discovered an old, forgotten song from my youth and it exists only in my bedroom, undamaged by other people. Getting lost in a crowd isn’t, as moistbreezy defines it, “so romantic,” it’s terrifying and painful. But if there’s no crowd, if it’s just you and your wandering thoughts, “Contact” is a blissful daydream.

Rules: spell out your url using song titles and tag ten people (And my reasons for them)
N- Never Really Over-Katy Perry
“I’m losing my self control, yeah you’re starting to trickle back in.”
Mori is desperately in love with one man (Sometimes two depending on the verse) and no matter what happens, the good or the bad, she always ends up coming back to him.
Its never really over.
A-Addict- Hazbin Hotel (Michael Kovach and Chi Chi) “Til death do us part, but we’re already past that phase.” “So what if I misbehave? Its what everybody craves, so come if you’re feeling brave and fancy yourself a mate.” “You want it, I got it, see what you like? We could have it all but the end of the night, your money and power, my sinful delight.” Mori in a nutshell, especially when she is being a bad girl. Also Checkmate/The Sadist and The Necromancer, basically any ship where she is with a rich and powerful criminal and having a blast U-Undisclosed Desires- Muse The whole damn song, just yes. Also she has totally stripped/given lap dances to this song before. G-Gravity-Sara Bareilles Again, the whole song, just this all consuming love that she lets take her over and it always brings her back to one man. H-Hoodie-Hey Violet A good break up/ but I still want you/think about you song “I’m still rocking your hoodie.” Something she would say and definitely do. Date her and you will lose your favorite hoodie. T-Tell me you love me-Demi Lovato Again, I am thinking main ships, they fight, and it can get really angsty, but at the end of the day, they come back together and really, all she wants to know is that she is loved. Y-You Say- Lauren Daigle Yes, I know its a Christian song, but to me it has more of a love song vibe. “I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I’m not enough.” Mori suffers hard from not being self confident and not thinking she is good enough or deserving of love or happiness. “When I don’t belong, oh you say that I am yours. And I believe.” All it takes is the words and the love of someone and she starts to build herself back up a little more. N-Never be the same- Camila Cabello ft. Kane Brown “Just like nicotine, heroine, morphine, suddenly I’m a fiend and you’re all I need.” Mori can easily fall in love and get addicted to a person’s love. “And I could try to run but it would be useless, you’re to blame.” There is no escaping this kind of love. E-Eternity-Rachel Taylor Kind of reminds me of a dominant/submissive love song “You have my all,you are my downfall.” “Keep me for eternity.” She is immortal and wants to share that with someone. C-Call me Master-Blood on the Dancefloor Again, naughty song, but it fits so well with her. R-Rise “I will still rise.” Mori has faced many obstacles even death a few times and beaten them. She will always rise. O-One Sweet Love-Sara Bareilles “Just about the time the shadows call, I undress my mind and dare you to follow.” This is a major seduce my mind, you can have me song. Its soft and sweet and so her. M-Monster-Skillet When she lets her darker side out to play. A-Animal- Chase Holfelder The version of this song is just so dark and sensual, it reminds me of her on the prowl, or someone being on the prowl for her. “What are you waiting for, take a bite of my heart tonight.” N-New Rules-Dua Lipa Finally getting out of that toxic relationship and learning her self worth....eventually. “Practice makes perfect, I’m still trying to learn it by heart.” C-Centuries “You will remember me for centuries.” Immortal and she is not going anywhere for a long time. E-Everytime we touch-Cascada Good love song and she just loves to dance to this one. R-Remix to Ignition-R. Kelly Again another dance song that she loves, she’s usually listening to it on her kitty corn headphones. Top 10 Personal Favorite Hit Songs from 2009
20 to 21 years old. And so the 2000s end, not with a whimper, but with an explosion of upbeat, great pop songs.
Only one third of these lists left to make!
Disclaimers:
Keep in mind I’m using both the year-end top 100 lists from the US and from France while making these top 10 things. There’s songs in English that charted in my country way higher than they did in their home countries, or even earlier or later, so that might get surprising at times.
Of course there will be stuff in French. We suck. I know. It’s my list. Deal with it.
My musical tastes have always been terrible and I’m not a critic, just a listener and an idiot.
I have sound to color synesthesia which justifies nothing but might explain why I have trouble describing some songs in other terms than visual ones.
First to second and final year of my Master degree in Contemporary History. Also got two summer jobs that year. I was basically only researching and writing my master thesis at this point and trying to survive on a 50€ per month budget to pay for transport, clothes, driving lessons, and food apart from one meal a day. Needless to say, some corners had to be cut and my health wasn’t the best. I was also trying to register to pass some concours d’Etat to be a government worker considering there was 0% chance I’d be able to find a job otherwise with my qualifications and my mother had been trying to find an excuse to throw me out for more than four years at this point. Basically I was broke, stressed out and in panic mode.
Thank god, the music was mostly energetic and upbeat on the radio. I can’t imagine what my mood would have been like if the charts had been as horribly depressed as in 2018 or 2019.
This was also the year when my favorite music reviewer ever, Todd In The Shadows, started to make his first videos, so you might think his lists are going to influence mine, but as it turns out we have very, very different tastes for the most part (I mean come on, the guy hates Depeche Mode), so... not so much. But he helped me discover a lot of songs I would have ignored otherwise, so yeah, godspeed, Todd.
It should be mentioned that the two songs that I wanted to put at the top of this list before looking at the actual year-end lists turned out to be non-elligible and that is extremely frustrating. Obviously, as I mentioned in the previous post, there’s Life In Technicolor II by Coldplay, which has an incredibly fitting name since it’s one of their most colorful songs ever. But I’m not even sure I would have put it at #1 since this was the year of Mika’s second album, and oh my god, We Are Golden was FANTASTIC. It’s my absolute favorite song from the guy, the music video is incredibly fun, and I listened to that shit on a loop as soon as it dropped.
I usually don’t put such large links for non-elligible songs but the fact this isn’t elligible is nothing short of criminal. Check it out if you’ve never heard it.
youtube
As for albums from bands I liked... eh. Lacuna Coil dropped Shallow Life, which was not as good as KarmaCode, Pet Shop Boys dropped Yes which wasn’t nearly as good as Fundamental, Depeche Mode dropped Sounds of the Universe which was DEFINITELY not as good as Playing the Angel (I liked Wrong, though. But it’s not elligible), Eminem released Relapse which was joyless and pretty bad and he was kinda dead to me at that point (even if it wasn’t as terrible as Encore AND he had that song with Drake that was very good), Placebo released Battle for the Sun which was pretty great but still not as good as their previous two albums, Paradise Lost had Faith Divides Us Faith Unites Us and basically same thing there, and Indochine had La République des Météors which is imho their worst record in the past twenty years, by far.
Long story short, every single one of the bands and artists I loved who released an album that year let me down (except Placebo, maybe).
And then VNV Nation released Of Faith, Power And Glory, I listened to it, and suddenly I had a new favorite band, and everything was good and beautiful in the world again. Album of the year for me, hands down.
With that out of the way, a few honorable mentio-HOLY SHIT HOW MANY OF THESE ARE THERE, WTF
Replay (Iyaz) - A perfectly good and innocent little earworm.
Run This Town (Rihanna) - I don’t like the original very much (Kanye’s verse is atrocious) but I've had a mashup of it with Bach’s Tocatta & Fugue in D minor (yes you read that right) on my mp3 player for years now, so this has to count. The mashup is called Run This Town In D Minor. It’s one of my favorite mashups ever. I even made fanart of it once! Look it up if you can, the original video has apparently disappeared.
Circus (Britney Spears) - You know it’s a good year for pop when even Britney Spears makes music I like.
Magnificent (U2) - Wait, even U2 was making decent music? I had zero use for them since at that point Linkin Park had more or less taken over their ecological-musical niche of “mainstream epic-sounding pop-rock music with tortured vocals and Emotions(tm)” but that one was still kinda nice.
Même Pas Fatigué (Magic System & Khaled) - I’ve said that before and I’ll say it again but they always bring a smile to my face and I don’t get why it’s ‘cool’ to hate their songs in my country. Yeah, they often sound the same, but I’d listen to ten similar-sounding Magic System songs in a heartbeat whereas you’d have to pay me to listen to ten similar-sounding Nickelback songs.
Day n Nite (Kid Cudi) - This had a tendency to get stuck in my head, but not at all in an unpleasant way.
21 Guns (Green Day) - Much better than I remembered.
When Love Takes Over (David Guetta), Stereo Love (Edward Maya ft Vika Jigulina), Evacuate the Dancefloor (Cascada) - That year was full of catchy, stupid, energetic songs, wasn’t it?
Greenlight (John Legend) - If I had better taste, this would be on the list. Alas, you’re reading the top 10s of someone who once put Blue (Eiffel 65) in a #1 spot, so yeah.
In Your Hands (Charlie Winston) - Same thing, basically.
Like a Hobo (Charlie Winston) - “Like a hobo from a broken home, nothing’s gonna stop me”, said this very useful song. Now is a good time to remind you that my nickname at the public university was The Hobo. So yeah. I liked this song a lot and I still do.
Forever (Drake) - Drake and Eminem are both amazing on this track. Unfortunately there’s also Kanye West and Lil Wayne on it. But. Like. “I'm Hannibal Lecter so just in case you're thinking of saving face / You ain't gonna have no face to save”. Dude. Duuuuuude.
You Found Me & Never Say Never (The Fray) - Did I mention I really, really liked this band. I think I did. Several times.
Paparazzi & Love Game (Lady Gaga) - Would both have had a chance to land on the list without the incredible amount of great, catchy tunes that year had to offer.
C’est Dans l’Air (Mylène Farmer) - Mylène Farmer had THREE singles on the French year-end list and this is the ONLY one I like. Good electro, mediocre verses but a great chorus (and a weird and kind of hilarious music video). Basically a song saying we’re all going to die and she can only sing about it. It’s strange, it’s a bit dark in a fun way, but it’s sadly not enough to land on the list, and it was the last cut from it.
Phew. Making this list was like a Hunger Games of catchy, upbeat, stupid songs to find which one was the best. It’s not #1 but I’m still shocked I had to put it so high.
But first, the runner ups.
10 - Fire Burning (Sean Kingston)
US: #33 / FR: Not on the list
Yes, ALL these honorable mentions were kicked out to give the last spot on the list to this guy and a chorus that goes “somebody call 911, shawty fire burning on the dance floor, WOAH!”.
The fact that I don’t feel bad about it means this was the right pick for that spot.
9 - Rain (Mika)
US: Not on the list / FR: #22
Anybody else thinks Mika looks like the Fourth Doctor on this screenshot from the music video or is it just me?
Anyway. So yeah, as I said, We Are Golden would have topped this list if it had been elligible. Sadly, it isn’t, but Rain is. I don’t like it nearly as much as We Are Golden, but what can I say. It’s still Mika. I’ll take whatever I can.
8 - I Gotta Feeling (Black Eyed Peas)
US: #4 / FR: #17
I lost about 80% of the respect I had for this song the day I realised its untouchable, marvellous beat was very probably stolen from Take a Dive. I still love it though. Had a few actual parties in 2010 and early 2011 and this was garanteed to make everyone dance, even people like me who don’t know how to dance.
And then the dancefloor died instantly anytime anyone tried to put Boom Boom Pow on because it’s impossible to dance on that one. But that’s another story.
7 - Poker Face (Lady Gaga)
US: #2 / FR: #5
Needless to say this was absolutely everywhere and overplayed to death and beyond, and the fact I still wanted to listen to it and put it on my playlists really tells you how good I thought it was (and still is).
6 - Ça m’énerve (Helmut Fritz)
US: Not on the list / FR: #1 (...yes.)
This is a novelty song with a singer pretending to have a thick German accent, complaining about various things in France, like the fact he doesn’t fit the dress code for a club, that he wanted to buy a sweater with “Rock” written on it but it’s out of stock, that some girls can fit in a size 34 blue jean and not him, that there’s a queue of people trying to buy macarons at the Ladurée shop, and so on. And every time he concludes “that gets on my nerves”, said in a very flat tone. Here’s a translation.
It was overplayed as f█ck here. Think Despacito levels of overplay. But the beat is great and it’s still hysterical after having heard it about a hundred times that year.
Fun fact, while I was making this list and relistening to this song, my s.o said “haha that sounds great! What is it?” and I stared at him in disbelief. Somehow, he was completely serious. That’s like someone escaping the Great Macarena Onslaught Of 1996. What happened. How.
5 - Waking Up In Vegas (Katy Perry)
US: #36 / FR: Not on the list
Again, I must remind you that my s.o is a Katy Perry fan and that I’ve heard this song even more than the average radio listener did at the time, and it’s STILL #5 on this list. What can I say. It’s a ton of fun and one of my favorite songs from her.
4 - New Divide (Linkin Park)
US: #61 / FR: Not on the list
Is this their best song? Not by a f█cking mile. I thought it would be much lower when I started to make this specific list, but what can I say. Linkin Park is like that one old friend that you kept no contact with for years, and once you meet them again, it’s like they never left. Who cares if that wasn’t nearly as good as Numb or In the End? Not me, that’s for sure.
Also, “In every loss in every lie / In every truth that you deny / And each regret and each goodbye / Was a mistake too great to hide / And your voice was all I heard / That I get what I deserve”. Holy shit, dude.
3 - Good Girls Go Bad (Cobra Starship)
US: #43 / FR: Not on the list
BEHOLD. THE ONLY SURVIVOR OF THE 2009 ‘CATCHY UPBEAT STUPID SONGS’ HUNGER GAMES. THE CATCHIEST, UPBEAT-IEST, STUPIDEST OF THEM ALL. HERE IT IS AT LAST.
The thing I love about this is that it’s a song made by nerds for nerds and that the singer looks and sounds completely non-threatening. As Todd said in his own list back in the day, “that guy couldn’t make good MILK go bad” and that’s what’s so endearing about the song, I think.
Also yes, this is, in fact, placed above Linkin Park.
2 - Use Somebody (Kings of Leon)
US: #14 / FR: Not on the list
This was my #1 at first. I LOVED it. I even bought the album, even though, as you know, my funds were very low that year. That music is soaring. It’s majestic. Well, the lyrics aren’t that majestic and soaring, it’s about loving someone and trying to catch their attention, but the rest? Damn this is intense. It was also elligible for the 2010 list, by the way, where I ALSO wondered if it should be #1, but in both cases, it wasn’t meant to be.
And so this list of 2009 hit songs comes to a close.
It began with the forging of the Great 2009 Upbeat Songs. Three were given to the Punk Rock hits. Seven to the Dance Tracks. And nine, nine songs were gifted to the Radio Friendly Pop Songs, which above all else desired power.
But they were all deceived, for another song was made. Deep in the forgotten land of Synth Pop, in his Parents’ Basement, the Dark Lord Adam Young forged a master song, and into this song he poured his joy, his talent and his will to dominate all charts.
One song to rule them all.
1 - Fireflies (Owl City)
US: #60 / FR: Not on the list (76 the next year)
I know. It’s a meme nowadays. But still. Have you any idea how satisfying a song with an initial beat that looks like small pulsing yellow and blue lights in the dark ACTUALLY titled “Fireflies” is? How gentle it all sounds and looks, even when the music soars? The number of drawings and paintings I made just based on the colors of THAT song? It’s like a synth pop version of one of my favorite Mike Oldfield tunes ever, Weightless.
And then, on top of all the rest, how relatable was that guy’s body language and general attitude?? Before even knowing he was on the spectrum I was like “oh BIG mood.”
Also following his twitter was one of the best decisions I ever made.
So yeah. I would have loved to put Coldplay or Mika in that #1 spot, but I’m not too mad about it thanks to this wonderful little song and its author. Such a shame Deer in the Headlights and Alligator Sky aren’t elligible for the 2011 list.
Next up: Johannes finally moves out and finds a great job and starts living a little, plus here’s a #1 that will be difficult to justify

Author's Notes: Chapter 33 (Evacuate the Dancefloor, part 1)
Yes, I appreciate the irony of the last chapter ending with "it would reach the dinner theater dressing room in no time at all" only for me to not post the next chapter for however many months its been. In my defense, your honor, college exhausted me and I got Tears of the Kingdom as soon as I got home for summer break. So. Yeah.
This chapter, a chase scene where Michelle runs after her bracelet as it flies away from her, reluctant to use Iron Maiden the whole time, was one of the first concepts I had for the fic as a whole. In retrospect it might've made sense to have this earlier, but, eh. What are you gonna do.
My original progression for this chase called for Michelle to "borrow" a water bottle from an unsuspecting tourist to try and stuff the bracelet into, only for the bracelet to break out of that as well. This ended up being replaced with the tote bag in the finished chapter; which I settled on because it was something already introduced in the story rather than a new element I'd have to bring in. Chekov's gun and all that, y'know.
School and elf twinks aside, this chapter was a lot harder to write than expected. It wasn't another Aces High or anything, where I scrapped my plans for the Stand encounter twice, but it was very hard to write a chapter that, for the most part, has basically no dialogue. I think that's where I shine (that's where I'm at my most comfortable, at least), so needing to do something that's basically all action prose was really hard. As a testament to that, essentially every part of the chase until Michelle meets up with Midler again was, in some form, rewritten at least once.
Some small paragraphs of the chapter, usually either inner monologues or location descriptions, ended up being cut or severely shortened to keep up the pacing.
I didn't initially plan on using Random Access Memories to deal with High Priestess; it just turned out to be exactly what I needed by a very happy coincidence. I don't think that the Memories can just absorb Stands like that, though; it only worked because High Priestess had transformed itself into the harpoon gun at that time.
Music references:
The chapter is named after a Cascada song of the same name.
While not really a music reference, Cascada's dancing (specifically the way Moon River's water follows behind her) was heavily inspired by Azura in Fire Emblem Fates. See what I mean here. I think Cascada's style leans more towards belly dancing, but if you imagine Cascada doing this dance, you have the general idea of what I'm going for (minus the groans of increasing discomfort, of course).

Chase being in a emo with grunge leaning aesthetic and mind set as a teen (As opposed to Seans casuals with emo leanings in aesthetic) bc it's about being emotional, suffering, rebelling but above all else not being alone, and the idea was all he had, but he hides it away bc its "cringe" but he still secretly indluges in it as a guilty pleasure and when he meets Jackie proper in his full scene glory he slowly gets back into his old aesthetic as well (It also helps difference him from Sean)
yes yes yES i love grungey chase, like he listens to nirvana and soundgarden and smashing pumpkins and guns n roses and he feels like all that kind of music is seen as cringey and that his older clothes are too try-hard so he doesnt really like it openly. and then he meets fucking jackie whos like ‘hahah!!! my mental illness makes me incredibly disorganized and paranoid so im gonna listen to everytime we touch cascada nightcore remixes for 5 hours straight and noBODY CAN STOP ME’ and suddenly chase feels a little better about laying in bed being sad while listening to depressing nirvana songs. cringe culture is dead and jackieboy man personally killed it
