“We are gonna be together forever. Just not right now,” he told her. Maybe that was true. Maybe she needed to go off on her own to find out who she really was and he needed to do his own thing and hopefully he was huge and successful, he wouldn’t forget about her. Maybe, they’d end up in the same city again.

i thought it was a good idea to put the lordgenome fight at the beginning of this movie, and even to scale it down a bit!! bc like. if it was added to the end of the last movie, it would’ve had to have been built up to be even BIGGER than the fight against adiane and guame and cytomander, and idk if that would’ve been possible to squeeze in. at least in a way that made it satisfying and earned as a finale, which would’ve required cutting screentime from elsewhere. and as a result it wasn’t as big of a deal as it was in the show, and it went by SUPER quick, but i think it worked as the hook for this movie! especially bc the fight w the antispiral at the end was SUPER brutal, so the punches in this fight were pulled a bit as a trade off.

SIMON DRILLED THE KAMINA STATUE!!!!!!!!! OH MY GODDDDDD THAT’S SUCH A GOOD CALLBACK TO ALL THOSE KAMINA STATUES HE MADE WHILE HE WAS DEPRESSED!!!!!!!!!!!! AND IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!!!!! lmao everyone always talks abt how imaishi doesn’t do subtext and yet this FLEW OVER MY HEAD until i had it spelled out!!!!! BUT ITS SO GOOD OMG IM SO GLAD THEY INCLUDED THAT BIT

and the rest of the kamina city montage was great too!!! i really loved seeing how they built it all (and it really drove home how QUICK they evolved too which was good). i also liked that it was just music so i didn’t miss any dialogue LMAO. i will say that i’m sad viral’s bit about protecting the humans who want to continue living underground was cut though, i think it’s a great moment for his character.

I ALSO AM NOT A FAN OF them changing the scene where simon invents perceptual teleportation specifically to save rossiu’s life. i do understand that all of these changes (specifically to rossiu, since he’s just a supporting character and there’s less time to develop him in two movies where the focus is, as it should be, on simon) were made for the sake of runtime BUT as a platonic love enjoyer i just always thought it was neat that simon cracked the damn universe open to save his friend EVEN BEFORE he did the same for nia. idk i just love that abt the show a lot and i’m sad it got lost in the shuffle

okay so this is a weird tangent but i love how violently the adults in the show protect the kids. kittan tells off gimmy before he goes to die, he sacrifices himself so yoko’s kids won’t be without her (which. this is probably just kittan’s oldest sibling nature comin thru lmao), how so many members of team dai gurren sacrifice themselves in the show so that gimmy and darry can make it back safe when their graperls are hit, how viral refuses to fight simon when he finds out he’s a kid, how rossiu leaves adai specifically to protect gimme and darry, hell even the narrative never faults rossiu for what he does!!! he may not be a child but he’s still a kid!! and the adults have blind spots too!!! such as letting SIMON AND ROSSIU run the government when they’re not old enough to drink and definitely need therapy!!! but idk i just love it a lot :)))) it really helps drive home the message that maybe the world you’re fighting for isn’t for you but the people following you, and they deserve something better than what you had. and the theme of evolution of course <3333

this happens in the show too but i love love LOVE that the last thing yoko and kittan do before he dies is HUG. it really drives home that they’ve known each other for SEVEN YEARS and they have a deep friendship and THAT is the most important part of their relationship on the whole. it’s just such a sweet hug and i am a sucker for m&f friendships so <3333 i am a fan!!!! and w the piano beginning of libera me from hell playing in the background too........UGH PERFECTION

god. god. okay!!!!! god i loved that. i’m glad that i have these movies in conjunction w the original series bc as i’m sure you know by now (.....if anyone’s made it this far LMAO) i am disappointed that viral’s and ESPECIALLY rossiu’s arcs got trimmed so much. i mean, it makes sense bc runtime, and also bc they wanted to include that AWESOME AS FUCK final battle, but i’m glad i have both versions so i can get their full stories as well as all the wonderful new bits from these movies!!!! gosh i’m so glad i watched these they were so GOOD such a TREAT i can’t wait to watch them again too!!!! the animation was GORGEOUS and the story and message adapted PERFECTLY and i LOVED IT A LOT.
