From Bones post, what cats in OFND do you view as neurodivergent?
Please keep in mind throughout this list: When aiming to write about a community in which no listed name is a blank slate, in which everyone is a person with their own drives, passions, and history, it isn’t uncommon to find that some of said characters are neurodivergent. After all, if you look into a crowd of randomly selected peoples, you are more than likely to find someone who is as such, diagnosed or otherwise.
I fully understand and respect the controversy that comes with writing such characters, especially neurodivergent characters, and even more especially neurodivergent characters who have disabilities or other influences that have been demonized to the general public via one way or another.
I, myself, am neurodivergent in many different flavors. However, many of the characters that I will include within OFND do not fall under the same umbrellas in which I shelter under. For these characters, I still wish to portray them not solely as their neurodivergency, but as people, as the broad range of traits and experiences that they are and should be. For that, I turn to friends, helpful internet strangers, and detailed archived sources to best and fully portray their disabilities as accurately as possible in a way that affects their lives, but not their character.
I’m not sure that fully makes sense, but let me also note that I am fully accepting of criticism, advice, and any other helpful tips or sources to be turned towards when it comes to best representing these characters.
That being said, OFND is not a story about neurodivergency or mental illness; it heavily involves it, yes, but it is not a story specifically about such topics. It is a story about community, and within any and every community, things such as this are bound to crop up and make themselves known.
Also note that the below is a list exclusively of neurodivergence. I’m happy to make a list later on of physically disabled characters as well!!

△ Art Blog △ AO3 Page △
Hiya! This is my personal blog. Most of what's on here is reblogs, with the occasional personal post sprinkled in. I've had this blog since around 2018 and I have not once changed my URL or icon, and I don't think I ever will. I like Nihilego.
You can find more about me under the cut, as well as (my attempts at a) tagging system!
Additional Info
Yes, I actively use two names! I use them interchangeably. Feel free to call me whichever one you like best.
I have both Autism and ADHD, as well as some unfun flavors of mental illness. While I am very open about my AuDHD, please do not be weird or invasive about my mental illness.
My hobbies include writing, drawing, RPing, playing video games, and taking naps.
I'm a resident appreciator of Tsumugi Shirogane (Danganronpa V3), Sara Chidouin (Your Turn to Die), Akane Kurashiki (Zero Escape), and Iris Sagan (AI: The Somnium Files). If you see posts with or relating to them, feel free to tag me!
I don't need tone indicators, but they're nice so long as you don't use unnecessary ones. /J, /S, and /LH are the only ones that I use, if at all.
I don't think that having a DNI list is all that helpful in curating your online space, so I don't have one. Instead, I block people that I don't want in my space if I see them. I'd rather bigots not engage with any of my content, but I doubt they'd listen to me, regardless...
Also, if I do block you, don't harass me trying to figure out why. 9 out of 10 times it's not personal, and the other 1 time will know exactly why I did already.
I don't give out my Discord publicly and I don't give it out to people I don't know. If you randomly ask for it, I'll block you.
I'm pretty fatigued most days and I don't always have the energy to vet the people I reblog from. A reblog is not equivalent to an endorsement of the original poster's views or anything. If you catch something weird, let me know and I'll look into it.
In general, just don't be invasive or aggressive and we'll be fine. :]
Tagging System
As of right now, only posts from 2023 onward are properly tagged. I'm very slowly working on tagging my entire blog, but... it'll take a while!
I don't tag spoilers in reblogged posts unless the media I'm reblogging is less than a month old. I tag spoilers in original content I post, though (such as memes I've made) so that people browsing the tags don't get jumpscared.
By the way, I try to tag triggering content as "(____) tw" or "(____) cw". This way, the Tumblr filtering system can catch it.
Common fandom tags:
#yttd ✰ #fate ✰ #dr ✰ #persona ✰ #genshin ✰ #ze ✰ #aitsf ✰ #hsr
Other tags:
#dragon.txt (personal posts)
#about me (posts that encapsulate my vibe)
#fave post (posts that i really like that don't fit into any other tag)

Hi, I'm just wondering what characters you headcanon as neurodivergent? I know Huan's autistic, and I'm fairly positive you mentioned Mako and Ikki were neurodivergent (please correct me if I am wrong on that!), but are there any others?
Yes!
Huan’s very clearly autistic. I also headcanon that Mako, Baatar Sr, Baatar Jr, and Zhu Li all lie somewhere on the spectrum as well. Varrick and Ikki are lying in the ADHD camp for me. Bolin’s got something going on as well…learning disabilities, I think, maybe an odd flavor of the spectrum.
When it comes to my OCs, Nuo is most certainly on the spectrum, as are Iris and Rose. Ikki’s future kids will all be on the spectrum, and Sayuri has the inattentive type of ADHD for damn sure.
Mako for me is easy - his issues with socialization, his humor that is either forced - those terrible jokes/puns that he actually tries to work out ahead of time in order to fit in - or doesn’t exist because he’s not in on the joke. THE LOGBOOKS. How rigid and unbending he can be, especially when he is in a new situation he isn’t sure of. The fact that he loves Bolin is very very clear; that being said, while he protects Bolin physically he doesn’t really do much for him emotionally. That’s because he doesn’t really get what Bolin needs, emotion-wise, not because he doesn’t care. The way he had no fucking clue what to do emotionally in either of his relationships with Korra or Asami. Played for laughs, sure, but that horribly awkward moment where he salutes them and calls them “Ladies” is just… oh god, Mako. He sleeps under his desk rather than try and figure out how to deal with the crash and burn of both of those things not because he’s a jerk but because he has zero fucking clue as to what he is supposed to do and everyone’s pissed at him and he has no idea why.
One of my favorite Autistic Mako scenes is the one where he and Wu have been moved into the Junior Suite at the Four Elements Hotel and he’s…repacking his suitcase. Why would he do that? The Hotel moved them without their permission or knowledge, so they would have moved their personal belongings for them, of course. Mako isn’t packing his suits to move to a smaller room; they are already in the smaller room. Which means that one of the hotel employees had also already packed up his suits and moved them there, right? Hooooooooooooo boy. Someone else touched and moved his things for him? Nope. Nopity nope nope. So what does he do? He repacks them himself into the suitcase, presumably to be unpacked by him later. Oh my god, Mako. I’m feeling you, that’s all I have to say.
Let me also just state here for the record that I think a lot of the issues that fans had with Mako and his behavior are things that Autistic people are very very familiar with in our own lives. As in, they are all the reasons that people give for not liking us. I’ve read plenty of meta about Mako that boils down to I don’t like this guy and he’s a jerk while pointing out all of his especially Autistic qualities. Yeah, that’s right. I’M LOOKING AT YOU, TLOK FANDOM.
Baatar Jr’s also rigid and humorless with a good heaping of sarcasm thrown in there to boot. Of course in his case it’s played off by Bryke that he’s just an asshole, but the fact that he doesn’t get the wolfbat nest joke that Varrick throws at him and takes it literally? Yep. His Book 4 default mood is anger, and while some of that could just be his Beifong heritage (ahem) I think a lot of it is stress, anxiety and fear - he is not in control of anything at all, and this is a man that clearly needs to be in control of his environment, we see this again and again. (I also think he’s afraid of Kuvira - not just because he doesn’t want to disappoint his fiance but because he knows damn well what happens to people who do, but that’s another discussion for another time.) Note the difference between when he’s speaking to his mother and when he’s speaking to anyone else. His mother is a safe person for him - he’s pissy with her, yes, but he’s clearly not afraid of her. He’s not uncomfortable with her, nor with Opal, not at all. These are people he knows and loves, trusts. Other people, though? Back comes the sarcasm and the nastiness. The man loses his shit all over anyone he thinks is going to put him in Kuvira’s line of fire because of their incompetence. He is clearly uncomfortable with most people. Also, the dude is not at all social in Book 3, not even close. He never speaks! He makes it to one meal where he’s sitting next to Huan and he’s there to see Opal off but where the fuck is he the rest of the time?
His brilliance goes without saying; Varrick mocks him and his parents don’t take him seriously but he was able to harness that spirit vine energy despite all of Varrick’s (failed) research getting destroyed and build that Colossus, which was clearly miles and miles ahead of any technology in that time and place. Sarcasm and nastiness being his default mode in order to mask confusion due to autism is another one of those Autistic things you don’t see portrayed in the media since they think we’re all Rainman but it’s a thing. As I was explaining to someone not that long ago, Autistics run the gamut of intelligence just like anyone else; our brains are neurodivergent, yes, but we don’t have a set IQ. Some Autistics are smarter than others, for sure. The same goes with EQ - emotional quotient (or emotional intelligence). The media - and a truly horrifying amount of mental health professionals who deal with Autistics and who should really know fucking better - assume that because most Autistics have a very low emotional quotient that they therefore are devoid of emotion. That is so fucking untrue, and I think Baatar Junior is a fine example of that. He has lots of emotion. He just doesn’t know how to deal with it, so it all gets funneled into that dangerous rage.
Anyhow, Anon, you didn’t ask for me to really go on with why I think all of these characters are on the spectrum! And I could go on, but my kid is having a school bakesale this morning and I have two dozen cupcakes to package up (because even Autistics sometimes bake for their kid’s bake sale) and I need to get on that. If you - or anyone else - wants to know about a character in particular, send me an ask!

Klaine one-shot - “Fidget Toy” (Rated NC17)
Kurt is a fidgeter. He likes to keep his hands busy. He has many toys, many means of doing this, each one specific to a certain situation.
But his submissive Blaine is, by far, his favorite fidget toy. (1113 words)
And here come the notes! You know you love them ;) This is supposed to be a portrayal of another way that a Dominant may benefit from their partner's submission. D/s fics tend to focus on a submissive's "flaws" or "issues" and how Domination helps solve those problems, which implies that Dominants are God-like creatures with no problems whatsoever (none that they can't solve for themselves in private with no help from anyone) and that, for a submissive, Domination is ALWAYS the answer. But that's not the case. Kurt and Blaine are human, blah-blah-blah, we've gone through this a thousand times. Also, this is not meant to imply in any way that Kurt is autistic or has ADHD - not that those things are impossible for him. But as I am personally not a person with autism or ADHD, it would be wrong of me to write from that perspective. I am, however, a creative, intelligent person, who fidgets. Ergo, I have written Kurt as an intelligent, creative person who fidgets. He fidgets the way I fidget, and he finds relief/comfort the way I find relief/comfort. It also shows to contrast between self-soothing, and using another person as an instrument for soothing. I am writing from what I know. My experience is not everyone's experience. Other people will have different experiences. This is just one. Now, shall we get on to the actual story? Yes? Let's ...
Dom Kurt, sub Blaine. Warning for D/s, fidgeting, objectification, and sexual content.
Part 49 of the Taking a Journey Together series.
Read on AO3.
Kurt is a fidgeter.
He’s never been officially diagnosed with anything that has fidgeting as a symptom, he just does it. It doesn’t interfere with the natural flow of his everyday life, it’s just a habit. It makes him comfortable in stressful situations. It helps keep him calm when he hits mental roadblocks. Growing up, it’s not something he consciously noticed – twiddling a pencil in his fingers while he drew or practicing piano scales on the tabletop at breakfast were the norm - so he can’t say when it started. It’s just something that’s always been. He’s happier when he’s moving, when he’s working, when he’s doing. He likes to keep his hands busy. He didn’t recognize the extent of it until he reached high school. His choir teacher would mention it, constantly: “Kurt, we’re not doing jazz hands. Stop wiggling your fingers ... Kurt, pay more attention to what you’re doing with your hands ... Kurt, I need you to stop thrumming your fingers against your thigh ... Kurt, please don’t ball your hands into fists. This is an emotional number. You look stressed …”
It was then that he became conscious of it, but he never felt self-conscious about it. He just found ways to keep his hands occupied.
Usually he draws, sews, or crochets, which solves two problems at once – it keeps his hands working and his mind creatively active. But when that’s not practical, he plays.
He keeps fidget toys hidden all over, in his pockets and his bag, the loft, and all over his office. He finds that as long as his hands are occupied, it’s easier for him to focus.
He has interlocking links that he twists, and nylon mesh tubes he can stick his fingers in and tug on while he talks on the phone.
He wears a titanium ring on his right index finger that he spins with his thumb while he peruses through photographs.
He has a Jacob’s ladder he fiddles with when he needs a few minutes break between tasks.
He keeps bubble wrap in his top desk drawer to pop when he’s ironing out his trip itinerary.
He carries a color changing egg in his pocket at all times. It’s smooth to the touch, and soothing to rub and look at when he feels a headache coming on.
He has heat sensitive tape that he wraps around his fingers while he Skypes, curling his hands into fists from time to time to watch the colors change.
He even keeps a lollypop or two on hand for the rare emergency oral fixation.
But Blaine’s body is Kurt’s favorite fidget toy.
Anytime Kurt works at home that Blaine isn’t otherwise occupied, he keeps his sub beside him, naked in a chair within easy reach, where Kurt can toy with him when the need arises.
Practicing Shibari knots is one of Kurt’s favorite ways to fidget. He gets strange looks when he practices at the office, usually on his own leg, but at home, he has the full range of Blaine’s body to tie and manipulate, using whichever rope provides the stimulus he needs most – soft, pliable, yielding cotton for meditative thinking, or rough nylon, a rope that fights against itself, when he needs to overcome hurdles. Just like with his Jacob’s ladder, when Kurt needs a break between tasks, he’ll rig Blaine up over their bed and lie beneath him, turning his sub this way and that while he’s suspended above him. The rope creaks in a relaxing rhythm as Blaine swings, and Kurt watches the way Blaine’s curls flutter as he slowly spins, the way even his eyelashes wave with the breeze created by the movement.
When Kurt hits his stride and needs to keep his flow going, he’ll knock his spinner ring against Blaine’s metal cock cage, experimenting with tone from base to tip, or rolling it up and down the length, marking time with the motion.
Sometimes he abandons work for a few minutes to indulge his need for oral stimulation, getting on his knees and blowing his sub, concentrating on the change from soft to hard as Kurt sucks him in. Or he’ll sit in Blaine’s lap and toy with his nipples, licking them or flicking them until they become pebbly and hard, then sitting still and watching in fixated fascination as they smooth out and soften. He tries not to do either of those when he’s working on a deadline. He can become absolutely lost in making Blaine hard and then watching him go soft, making him hard again, then watching him go soft again, over and over for hours.
For quick oral fixes, he’ll chew on one of Blaine’s fingers, cover it in honey and take his time licking it off, counting how many licks it takes before the honey’s gone and the only flavor in his mouth is the salt from Blaine’s skin.
Instead of playing with his egg, Kurt will stroke Blaine’s shaft or fondle his balls, trading the soothing spectrum of colors the egg turns for Blaine’s pink to red flush and the melodic whimpers he makes. Kurt can time them, predict them, conduct them like a symphony. That reliable consistency brings him comfort. When his thoughts become scattered, it helps him feel more in control.
Sometimes he combines Blaine with one of his other favorite toys. He’ll cover Blaine’s rear in bubble wrap and then spank him wearing his vampire gloves, or wrap Blaine’s cock in color change tape and hold so Kurt can see the intricate details of his handprint on Blaine’s skin.
Kurt knows that, in the midst of all the ways that Blaine benefits from Kurt’s Domination, Blaine takes for granted just how much Kurt needs Blaine, how Blaine’s submission benefits him. Their relationship isn’t one-sided. It’s about give and take in so many ways. Blaine is so many things to Kurt beyond submissive, lover, and friend. He’s a comfort item, a coping mechanism. He’s a toy. He’s shelter, and a crutch.
He’s his muse, his inspiration.
Sometimes Kurt has to fidget alone. Blaine and his body can become too big a distraction – his warmth, the noises he makes, the reactions of his body. They make Kurt want for longer sessions, ones that require more rope and cuffs, a variety of toys, and a change in location.
When that happens, Blaine doesn’t get banished. He gets reassigned - either to ottoman duty, so Kurt can put his feet up; or table duty, standing beside his Dom to hold Kurt’s paperwork or his lamp.
But that’s a wonderful problem for Kurt to have, and he’s grateful for it.
He’s grateful for Blaine.
