If you like the Locked Tomb, I think you would like the transformers IDW comics (specifically More Than Meets The Eye). (Yes, this is propaganda).
Do you like complicated stories that intertwine in ways that will have you taking notes? But that are still overt and funny enough to draw you in? Do you like found family working together? Do you like, what the author described as “a ship of problematic faves” constantly being thrown into life threatening situations? Do you like queer characters? A funky non-human gender system? Planets that turn into gods? Characters with comical size differences? Fighting? Trauma? It’s got it all!
More reasons under the cut:
1. If you like Ianthe Tridentarius levels of body horror, look no further, one of the first arcs is about literally getting torn apart, a recurring theme for robots who can survive terrible things. If you don’t like that, it’s not a constant theme, just a little treat sometimes.
2. Do you like funky little guys? Noodles? Nonas? I give you Tailgate, Swerve, and every single cybertronian that transforms into an animal.
3. Lesbians, and they’re all this species’ equivalent of being trans (these robots all use he/him, but that’s their default, non-gendered position)
4. Homosexuals, the robots can get robot married, pieces of their souls literally merge, and they will destroy you emotionally :)
5. A semi-malleable concept of death, if you like a character who died, chances are you’ll see them again!
6. Stakes! Have a character you don’t like, well, let’s just say, they won’t be a character for long
7. Gay cultist sword robots (Drift my beloved), and a Captain who’s a bit like Babs if you squint
8. Dealing with the repercussions of millions of years of war, and the impacts that it leaves on people’s emotional well-being
9. War criminals dealing with their emotions! And the fallout of their actions!! And coming to terms with it!!! (I am imagining John and Megatron having one singular conversation)
10. A series so skillfully put together I guarantee that you will go from a fluffy issue smiling so hard your cheeks hurt to a devastating arc that has you sobbing in only a few issues
11. An ending that is both devastating and hopeful
