The first time Lindon met Eithan:

He wondered about her sleeping and waking, and whatever he did, the worry stuck in the back of his mind like a splinter.

Separating from Yerin felt the same. Looking down the hallway without seeing her was like glancing down and seeing his arm missing.

Even after all the times she’d saved his life, he’d still never been happier to see her.

“When I stopped looking at all the problems, and I just asked myself what I wanted to do...I realized I wanted to come with you. So here I am.”

Yerin gave him a lopsided smile, and this one sunk into his memory: her smile, the thin scars standing out against her skin, her black hair mussed from training so it didn’t look straight anymore.

She looked more mature, a worthy competitor in the Uncrowned King tournament. She was beautiful.
