Bulbul Looking Askance
A common resident in local parks and almost everywhere here. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.
I was rather surprised by the auto-focus performance of the Fringer adapter used here. The Canon EF70-300mm lens seemed to work quite well on the Fujifilm X-T2. Optical stabilization also worked nicely. Giving a sharp image at even the shutter speed of 1/75 second at equivalent 450mm focal length handheld.

September 25, 2023 - Yellow-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier) Found in parts of Southeast Asia, these bulbuls live in urban areas, open forests, scrubby areas near water, and other open habitats. They eat mostly fruits, along with seeds, nectar, invertebrates, and occasionally carrion, foraging alone, in pairs, or in flocks of up to ten birds. Mostly breeding between December and October, they build deep cup-shaped nests from dry grass, tendrils, creeper stems, leaves, twigs, and other materials, usually in bushes or saplings. Females incubate clutches of two to four eggs and both parents care for the chicks.

Happy bird friday have a bird
Pycnonotus goiavier (Yellow-vented Bulbul)
Yellow-vented Bulbuls are the most common urban species of bulbul in Southeast Asia. Their name comes from the yellow patch of feathers on their butt lmao. They often forage around in parks and gardens here in Singapore, where you'll probably hear their distinctly 'bubbly' calls. Small lil guys.

The yellow-throated bulbul (Pycnonotus xantholaemus) is a species of songbird in the bulbul family of passerine birds. The species is endemic to southern peninsular India. They are found on scrub habitats on steep, rocky hills many of which are threatened by granite quarrying. It is confusable only with the white-browed bulbul with which its range overlaps but is distinctively yellow on the head and throat apart from the yellow vent. The calls of this species are very similar to that of the white-browed bulbul.

A white-browed bulbul
A plain brownish bulbul that is endemic to the bottom half of peninsular India and Sri Lanka. Ubiquitous inhabitant of scrubby habitat across its range and sometimes overlaps with Yellow-throated Bulbul in rocky scrub. Although both species have a yellow vent and can sound similar, White-browed can be distinguished by its brown face and white eyebrow. Usually occurs in pairs and tends to skulk in…

Yellow vented bulbul I saw at the park last week :]
They're pretty common but I tend to hear their calls more than see them so it's always a treat to
don’t let birding become a wealthy people thing. you don’t need to complete a list of 500+ birds, you don’t need to travel around the world, you don’t need to have seen a species only seen by a handful of people in the wild. it’s OK to just watch the birds in your area, with or without binoculars; gatekeeping birdwatching is ridiculous and i hate to see it

Bread For The Young
A Yellow-vented Bulbul seeking food among the leaves for its nearby waiting juvernile. Photo credit: Eleanor Chua.
Noise at ISO 3200 came up to some 9 odd and had need to be fixed in post. But Neat Image, like many other noise reducing app now, would work more evidently on the smoother part of the image while leaving the more contrasty part practically alone. So in order to fix the intrusive noise on the bird, mid-tones were darkened a tad to render the noise less obvious.
