Minjae was a little annoyed because he was obviously talking to you, so he just puts his arm around your shoulder and forcing a smile. "Sorry."

Junmin was scrolling through his phone, waiting for you to get out of the bathroom when he feels a tap on his shoulder. "Oh sorry, im taken." He would nod at the now frowning girl, before walking over to you when you walk out.

"No, I-" sumin was definitely tired of telling the girl no repeatedly, giving her multiple side eyes before walking out of the building and giving you a text. Ranting about the girl.

"You're really pretty." "Yeah, my girlfriend thinks so too." Jinsik would smile to himself, confused on why the girl was frowning and walking away. "Did i say something wrong..?"

Hyunwoo doesnt really know what to say so he just starts flexing his wallpaper and his phone case, proudly showing off his beautiful girl then apologizing

Junghoon would just ignore the girl, continuing about his day. I dont know what else to say 🤷‍♀️

"Echoes of Betrayal: The Xikers Mystery."

Chapter Twelve: The Scream

The blood-curdling scream echoed through the mansion, freezing everyone in place. The candles around the sigil flickered violently, threatening to extinguish entirely. Thunder roared outside, shaking the windows as if nature itself responded to the terror within.

"What the hell was that?" Hyunwoo whispered, his voice trembling.

"It came from somewhere inside the mansion," Seeun said, his face pale. "That wasn’t the wind or the storm."

"It sounded... close," Yechan added, his eyes scanning the dark corners of the grand hall.

"We need to stay together," Junghoon said firmly, gripping the ritual book tightly. "Splitting up would be a death sentence."

"But what if someone else is in danger?" Yujun countered, his voice laced with worry. "What if that scream was someone asking for help?"

Junmin crossed his arms, his expression hard. "Then they’ll have to wait until we figure this out. If we run off without a plan, we’re just asking to end up like Blackwood."

His words sent a chill through the group, the reminder of Blackwood’s lifeless body still fresh in their minds.

Following the Sound

Despite their fear, the group agreed to investigate the scream. Armed with a flashlight and a sense of grim determination, they moved cautiously through the darkened hallways. Each creak of the floorboards and whisper of the wind seemed amplified in the oppressive silence.

Junghoon led the way, the ritual book still clutched in his hands. Behind him, Sumin held the flashlight, its beam slicing through the shadows. Minjae and Hunter stayed close together, their eyes darting nervously around the dim corridor.

"It came from this direction," Seeun whispered, pointing toward a staircase that spiraled upward into darkness.

"Of course it’s upstairs," Hyunwoo muttered under his breath. "Why is it always the creepy upper floors?"

The Locked Door

At the top of the staircase, they found themselves in another long hallway. The storm outside cast strange patterns of light and shadow through the cracked windows. The air felt colder here, almost suffocating.

As they moved deeper into the corridor, a low, guttural sound made them stop in their tracks.

"Did anyone else hear that?" Yechan asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

"I heard it," Yujun confirmed, his eyes wide.

"It’s coming from behind that door," Sumin said, shining the flashlight on a large wooden door at the end of the hallway. Its ornate carvings were chipped and weathered, but a strange symbol was etched into the wood.

Junghoon stepped forward, examining the symbol closely. "It’s the same as the one in the ritual book," he murmured.

"Do we open it?" Minjae asked, his voice trembling.

Hunter looked at him incredulously. "Do we want to open it?"

Junmin, ever pragmatic, placed his hand on the doorknob. "We didn’t come this far to back out now."

Before anyone could argue, he twisted the knob. It didn’t budge.

"It’s locked," Junmin said, frustration creeping into his voice.

"Stand back," Hunter said, rolling up his sleeves. With a well-placed kick, the door burst open, the sound echoing down the hallway.

What Lies Beyond

The room beyond was unlike anything they had seen in the mansion so far. It was smaller than the other rooms, its walls covered in faded red wallpaper. A single window, cracked and dirty, let in just enough light to see the scene inside.

In the center of the room was an altar, similar to the one in the grand hall but smaller and more crude. Candles surrounded it, their wax long since melted into hardened pools. On the altar lay a small box, its lid engraved with the same sigil from the ritual book.

"What is this place?" Minjae asked, stepping cautiously into the room.

"It’s another part of the ritual," Junghoon said, his voice tight. "Blackwood must have set this up as a backup in case something went wrong in the grand hall."

"Or someone else set it up," Seeun said darkly.

Hyunwoo approached the box, his hand hovering over it. "Should we open it?"

"Wait!" Junghoon snapped. "We don’t know what’s inside. It could be dangerous."

"It could also be the key to finishing the ritual," Yujun countered.

After a tense moment, Junghoon nodded reluctantly. "Be careful."

The Box's Secret

Hyunwoo opened the box slowly, the creak of its hinges sending a shiver down their spines. Inside was a small, weathered scroll tied with a black ribbon.

Sumin took it carefully, unrolling the parchment to reveal more symbols and a hastily scrawled note:

"Do not trust the light. It lies."

"What does that mean?" Yechan asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

"It means we’re in more danger than we thought," Junghoon said grimly. "This ritual isn’t just about banishing something. It’s about survival."

Suddenly, the scream echoed again, louder this time and impossibly close.

"It’s coming from inside this room," Minjae said, backing away from the altar.

Before anyone could react, the door slammed shut behind them, and the candles flared to life, casting an eerie glow over the room.
