▼WV092: 鄭道元 Cheng Daoyuan - 旣 Apeiron
終則有始,盡則復生
Everything is nothing, and the ending is the beginning.
Fragments are embedded in contemporary life, from which we can not escape. The music of Taipei-based dark experimental sound activist Cheng Daoyuan is just such a journey through endless fragments, layers of sound textures and samples, building his own unique artistic vision between old-school post-industrial music and contemporary soundscapes. Dark ambient, harsh noise, glitch, gabber techno, digital distortion, ghostly vocals, pale but full of tension, "旣 Apeiron" comes from the abyss and goes into the future, reborn from the ashes, where the end is the beginning, invisible and without boundaries.
Previously released on cassette tape by Future Proof : 面向異日 in 2019, and now reissued by WV Sorcerer Productions as a double CD, 7" format trifold cover with obi, and a 24-page booklet of the artist's visual work. Including a feature appearance of Mong Tong on “幽示 Divulging” and 7 remixes from: Yearning Kru, YunHao, Wa?ste, A.P.R.A (破地獄 Scattered Purgatory), Nerve, Coalminer, and Torturing Nurse.
▼
"Waves of distortion crash into, and over one another; buried tones are barely visible in a dark sea of fuzz and decay, occasionally drifting towards the surface to groan...
...combining the paranoid digital tones with false reassurances of open spaces and natural tones. Haunted voices, cryptic announcements from tannoys and even bird sounds appear."
- Future Proof : 面向異日

Cheng Daoyuan is a multidisciplinary artist from Taiwan, engaging in various forms of creation including experimental sounds, visuals, and installations. His sonic expressions are based in dense, murky post-industrial textures, melding with diverse elements to sculpt a unique apocalyptic style, aiming to present the philosophical imagery of coexisting opposites, with the concept of the convergence of two distinct planes into a coherent form threading through his works.
In addition to being actively involved in the sound scene in Taiwan for many years, his sounds have been released internationally through albums, compilations, and remixes on multiple labels and platforms. In recent years, he has expanded his sonic aesthetics into the fields of multichannel audio, mixed media, and physical theater, presenting in venues such as art galleries, museums, and experimental spaces.

Today’s Poem
On the Pulse of Morning --Maya Angelou
A Rock, A River, A Tree Hosts to species long since departed, Marked the mastodon, The dinosaur, who left dried tokens Of their sojourn here On our planet floor, Any broad alarm of their hastening doom Is lost in the gloom of dust and ages.
But today, the Rock cries out to us, clearly, forcefully, Come, you may stand upon my Back and face your distant destiny, But seek no haven in my shadow. I will give you no hiding place down here.
You, created only a little lower than The angels, have crouched too long in The bruising darkness Have lain too long Face down in ignorance. Your mouths spilling words
Armed for slaughter. The Rock cries out to us today, you may stand upon me, But do not hide your face.
Across the wall of the world, A River sings a beautiful song. It says, Come, rest here by my side.
Each of you, a bordered country, Delicate and strangely made proud, Yet thrusting perpetually under siege. Your armed struggles for profit Have left collars of waste upon My shore, currents of debris upon my breast. Yet today I call you to my riverside, If you will study war no more. Come, Clad in peace, and I will sing the songs The Creator gave to me when I and the Tree and the rock were one. Before cynicism was a bloody sear across your Brow and when you yet knew you still Knew nothing. The River sang and sings on.
There is a true yearning to respond to The singing River and the wise Rock. So say the Asian, the Hispanic, the Jew The African, the Native American, the Sioux, The Catholic, the Muslim, the French, the Greek The Irish, the Rabbi, the Priest, the Sheik, The Gay, the Straight, the Preacher, The privileged, the homeless, the Teacher. They hear. They all hear The speaking of the Tree.
They hear the first and last of every Tree Speak to humankind today. Come to me, here beside the River. Plant yourself beside the River.
Each of you, descendant of some passed On traveller, has been paid for. You, who gave me my first name, you, Pawnee, Apache, Seneca, you Cherokee Nation, who rested with me, then Forced on bloody feet, Left me to the employment of Other seekers—desperate for gain, Starving for gold. You, the Turk, the Arab, the Swede, the German, the Eskimo, the Scot, You the Ashanti, the Yoruba, the Kru, bought, Sold, stolen, arriving on the nightmare Praying for a dream. Here, root yourselves beside me. I am that Tree planted by the River, Which will not be moved. I, the Rock, I the River, I the Tree I am yours—your passages have been paid. Lift up your faces, you have a piercing need For this bright morning dawning for you. History, despite its wrenching pain Cannot be unlived, but if faced With courage, need not be lived again.
Lift up your eyes upon This day breaking for you. Give birth again To the dream.
Women, children, men, Take it into the palms of your hands, Mold it into the shape of your most Private need. Sculpt it into The image of your most public self. Lift up your hearts Each new hour holds new chances For a new beginning. Do not be wedded forever To fear, yoked eternally To brutishness.
The horizon leans forward, Offering you space to place new steps of change. Here, on the pulse of this fine day You may have the courage To look up and out and upon me, the Rock, the River, the Tree, your country. No less to Midas than the mendicant. No less to you now than the mastodon then.
Here, on the pulse of this new day You may have the grace to look up and out And into your sister’s eyes, and into Your brother’s face, your country And say simply Very simply With hope— Good morning.

What do you think of the nickname princess? I for one miss Bellamy calling Clarke that. I really hope we get it in season 6 but I mean that’s kinda doubtful the nickname is pretty flirtatious and since Bellamy has a girlfriend I’m sure he’ll be loyal before letting himself go too far with Clarke
I don’t have any emotional attachment to the name “princess.” With Finn it was flirty, with Bellamy it was mocking then respectful then affectionate.
I could see him accidentally saying “princess” to Clarke without realizing it. It would reflect his history with her. To Echo it would sound too intimate. Well, that’s part of the problem, isn’t it? His intimate, soulmate relationship began LONG before he met Echo and developed long before Echo was on his team, and he loved and mourned Clarke long before the fell in love with Echo.
His relationship with Echo was 3years-six months long. And even though it might very well be longer than his actual relationship with Clarke on earth, his feelings for Clarke settled into his bones, were tested and found lasting, grew, and became central to his identity to the point that when she “died” his feelings did not.
The reason why Bellamy cannot stay with Echo is because he still loves Clarke. He can choose to not act on those feelings, but they still exist. We’ve already seen them come out. They affect his behavior, his concern, his focus, his relationships. He FEELS guilty for having them.
I think if he focuses on NOT acting on his feelings for Clarke in order to be a good guy to Echo, he is forgetting that not acting on those feelings doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
Those feelings might show up in nick names like “princess” or watching Clarke closely, jealousy, standing too near her, sharing his feelings and thoughts with her, or even finding platonic actions too intimate when they are with her. Because his feelings aren’t platonic, they are romantic.
When he called her princess before, it was platonic. If he calls her princess now, it won’t be platonic. Why? Because their feelings and their relationship ARE NOT PLATONIC. Keeping it on a “no kissing,” “no boning,” “no love confession,” level will NOT keep it from being romantic.
Oh. My. Are they going to play with the fandom debate of “platonic bellarke” WITHIN the show? Is “platonic bellarke” going to be a plot point. OMG IT IS. Bellamy is going to be like, “don’t worry Echo, Clarke and I are purely platonic and always have been.” And Echo is going to be like, “platonic partners don’t look at each other like that. they don’t touch each other like that. they don’t seek each other out and circle them like gravity is pulling them in, and they don’t yearn for each other.”
This show has been known to be very meta. If you think Clarke’s fairytale telling for 6 years wasn’t Clarke writing ACTUAL fanfiction of her life, and Madi’s hero-worship of Octavia wasn’t what fandom calls “stanning,” then I mean, ok. I guess we’re all Won happy Kru.
I had an ask a few weeks ago where someone was watching The 100 s5 with her boyfriend who was not a fan, and the boyfriend is like, “That dude is already emotionally cheating on his girlfriend with Clarke.” And he makes a very good point.
Bellamy will try to be a good guy by repressing the feelings he has for Clarke that are in canon. But not acting on his romantic love for Clarke will not mean he didn’t immediately fall in love with (fall back in love with) Clarke as soon as he saw her again. Loving someone else while you have a girlfriend is emotionally cheating.
Maybe Bellamy has been putting definitions on his feelings for Clarke to try and make it better, saying she’s his non-romantic partner, saying he cares for her like he cares for all his people, saying it’s just relief at having her alive and guilt over leaving her to die, or it’s a fantasy from when he thought she was dead…. but Octavia putting it out there and saying that his love for Clarke was not like his love for his family but it was like his love for HIS GIRLFRIEND, thereby implying that his feelings were romantic in nature and therefore, well… cheating.
He noted that comparison and he couldn’t dispute it. Because she was right.
He’s not going to act on his feelings for Clarke while he has a girlfriend, meaning no kiss or sex. That is not going to keep him from emotionally cheating. It’s too late. He’s already fallen back in love with her. Or never stopped loving her, probably. In which case, he’s actually cheating on CLARKE with Echo. But Clarke was DEAD, so it wasn’t cheating, but he let himself love Echo while still holding a torch for dead Clarke, which is definitely the smart thing to do, it’s a “head” choice. But his heart never went all the way in (or he would have told Echo that he loved Clarke) and when he got Clarke back, well the heart wants what it wants. And it wants Clarke.
He’s got to unify his head-love and his heart-love in order to deal with this. He has to give his whole heart to Echo, or he has to commit to Clarke. But JR has already told us how it will end up. Clarke is his soulmate. That means his heart belongs to Clarke. He can’t give it to Echo.
I think that will be Bellamy’s story in season 6, learning to balance his heart and head again, not in leadership this time, but in LIVING. Like Monty asked. Oh. Monty gave them TWO tasks. To be the good guys (the head task) and to live well (the heart task.) The good guys is Clarke’s task to struggle with. Living well is Bellamy’s task. They’ll both be doing both. But there it is, the head and the heart.
Oh. If you think about it, that resonates with Clarke and Bellamy in the pilot at the drop ship. She wanted to follow best path for the future, and thought it was to find MW and build a sustainable life. He wanted to enjoy life on the ground, food, freedom, love. I mean, maybe pilot Clarke and Bellamy didn’t really know what it meant to be the good guys and to live life well. But now they do.

@akachankami wanted more Echo in space so you get more Echo in space ;) I hope you enjoy it!
[FF] or [ao3]
Spin Raun Gon
Echo’s eyes remain on the window, every of her movement precisely calculated as she stares out into the dark void that stretches outside. Sometimes, depending on what she’s doing and at which point of its rotation the ring is, she can glimpse pieces of metal. In the darkness of space, they look like looming shadows, the jaws of a mysterious beast trying to challenge them. Raunon is the biggest beast though and nothing exterior can hurt it. The danger comes from within.
Six months and she still is not used to the humming of the beast’s heart.
If she places her hand against a wall, she will feel it, a barely there tremor that she has come to learn means safety. It stopped twice already and it has almost meant their death. Without Raven…
She hears the footsteps long before the other woman appears on the threshold of the room Echo has claimed for herself. She doesn’t stop moving.
She looked but she has found no sword nor bow on Raunon and she is still uncomfortable with Skaikrus guns. They are too obvious a weapon when everyone goes unarmed anyway. She is a part of the kru because Bellamy declared so but she needs the others to trust her, to rely on her, and they would not take well to her walking around with a gun at her belt. She found knives but nothing that she would ever consider hunting with. She keeps one in her boot all the same, it never hurts to be prepared.
She doesn’t need weapons anyway.
She is the weapon.
Or at least she used to be before space stole her breath. Even then, as cold sweat runs down her nape, her muscles cramp and protest because her lungs can’t provide enough oxygen. Training always makes her light-headed and yet she still trains, day after day. She abandoned any thought of actual fighting because that leaves her drained but she keeps her body in shape, sharpens it like she would have done with her sword or the point of her arrows…
A warrior takes care of her weapons. It is the first rule of war.
Spin raun gon isn’t her training of choice. It is slow and to an exterior eye it looks like an odd sort of dancing. It is in some ways. Taught to warriors whose stealth is as important as their strength. It is not meant as a path to fighting but as a way to ground oneself, to learn balance and reach peace of mind. She rejected it early enough and cannot remember all of its moves now but it is all she has and so she clings to it.
It is enough to feel the strain in her muscles and to make her body sing to the tune of war.
What she wishes for, more than anything else, is an opponent. Bellamy humors her sometimes – and inevitably loses to her superior skills despite his stronger built – but not often. Raunon isn’t a place for warriors.
The distinctive footsteps finally stop on the threshold and Echo waits for Raven to speak. It isn’t naitaim yet but it will be soon. The lights will dim and the night will start and Echo will roam the corridors like she always does, what started as an idle stroll having turned into a patrol in the last few months.
She doesn’t know why she insists because there is no enemy on Raunon, no one to haunt the steel corridors but the seven of them, and no threat from outside, none she would be able to beat anyway – they have Raven and Monty for those, brains over strength. The metal beast keeps them safe. And yet she patrols. Habits.
“You will have to teach me how to do that, one day.” Raven says.
Echo doesn’t spare her a glance, focused on the window and the angle of her leg as she balances on one foot, arms pushing high above her head. Short of breath. Always too short of breath.
She can’t remember what real air feels like when it flows freely in one’s lungs.
“Harper joins me sometimes.” she answers. “Yu laik monin. You are welcomed.”
It has been difficult for her to bond with the rest of the kru. Bellamy was the easy one. Harper was surprising but she is the one who offered a hand first and Echo took it. It took some time for Monty to learn to trust her but she likes to think they are comrades now. It stings maybe that Emori, who is the closest thing to home she has, keeps away but Emori and John always live on the fringe of the group, always keep to themselves and she does not resent it because she is not singled out, simply not a part of their world. Raven is the one who pauses a challenge though.
Even now, she can’t really tell if they are friends.
They are not enemies.
There is no room for enemies on Raunon.
Survival means cooperating.
And they are all in the same kru. It does not mean they all have to get along but that does mean they have to protect each other. Tempers flare sometimes but for the most part living in space is difficult enough that they do not waste time fighting each other.
“I don’t think I’d be very good at it.” the woman snorts with bitterness.
Despite her will to focus, Echo’s eyes dart to the metal contraption that encases Raven’s leg. It puzzles her how open the skai people are about their weaknesses. It makes them vulnerable and they don’t even notice.
Sometimes, she thinks it’s a good thing they have her.
She doesn’t show her weaknesses, she doesn’t allow herself to be vulnerable.
And if something or someone ever tries to attack them, it is what will save them all.
She is Bellamy’s wormana and she will not fail her king, even if he refuses to admit that it is who he is to their kru.
“You won’t know until you try.” she dismisses, planting her two feet back of the floor.
Her body yearns for some real action but she is already sweaty and cold and she knows better than to push too hard. She passed out once, because there is not enough air to sustain her body if she goes past a certain point. She can run precisely fifteen minutes before feeling nauseous – and that if she keeps a tame pace.
She hates feeling this weak.
“Yu gaf ai in?” she asks, picking up her towel to wipe her face. Then, she forces herself to translate because not everyone speaks her language on Raunon and Raven is of those who is the least interested in learning. She hates this too. The second it always takes her to make sure she understood them right. “Do you need me?”
She has muscles and Raven sometimes takes advantage of that when she works on a project to try and make their life easier. She doesn’t mind helping, it gives her a purpose.
“We’re eating in Earth Monitoring station tonight.” Raven tells her. “We’re having a movie night. Monty and I managed to divert enough power.”
She frowns at the other young woman.
“Movie?” she repeats, unfamiliar with the word.
“It’s like a story but with images that move.” Raven shrugs. “You’ll see. It’s fun.”
Fun, to her, is a good sword fight but she doubts Raven would understand so she holds her tongue. She observed already that her kru seems desperate to find fun anywhere they can get it. Monty perfects moonshine bash after moonshine bash – and this is a hobby she, in fact, does not object to – and Murphy urges for them all to party. Once, he made loud music blurt out of Raunon’s every speakers and instead of punishing him for it, they all started dancing and laughing like children on the loose.
“What kind of story?” she asks, curious despite herself. It seems she can never run out of things to be puzzled by. Space is full of them. She sometimes wonders if they were just as thrown with the ground as she is in their metal beast.
Raven shrugs and sits on the bed while Echo changes her shirt for a clean one, not bothered in the least by the other woman’s presence. “I don’t know, it’s Monty’s pick.”
That doesn’t explain much, she thinks, freeing her hair from the shirt’s collar. She’s been braiding it lately. Tight small cornrow braids that keeps it out of her eyes. There is time to waste in the sky and not much to do. It is a practical warrior hairdo, of course, but it also looks pretty and she cannot deny it flatters her vanity.
“Is there news from the ground?” she asks even if it is pointless. Twice a day at the same designated times, Raven tries to contact the bunker and twice a day she fails. If she had managed, Echo would have heard about it by now. And yet she still asks every time she sees Raven. It is a part of keeping hope that it would one day change. They all do the same thing.
“No.” Raven shakes her head, her face closing off. “It doesn’t mean they’re dead.”
“It doesn’t mean they’re alive either.” she opposes.
Isn’t that a weird thought. They don’t know and thus they are both alive and dead. There is no mourning them and yet there aren’t many reasons to hope. She does not like the uncertainty.
“Aren’t you a ray of sunshine.” Raven snorts. It’s not quite meant as a joke. There is the same underlying tension underneath that always ends up in their exchanges.
Echo killed her friends and she understands the other woman’s resentment. Raven is not a warrior, she does not understand that she did what she had to like Bellamy does. People who aren’t warriors don’t forgive as easily.
“Why did you come?” she asks, unwilling to play a game of deceit. She doesn’t like being on the defense when she can attack.
“To tell you we’re having a movie night.” Raven lies, using the edge of a nearby table to haul herself up. Echo does not miss the wincing when she puts her weight on her bad leg. She waits. She waits because it is not why the other woman really came and, surely enough, Raven rolls her eyes and folds her arms in front of her chest. “I don’t like you.”
“Rait bitam.” she accepts. Fair enough.
She isn’t sure Raven understands her words, the woman studies her for a long time and then shrugs. “I told Bellamy I would give you a chance.”
That surprises her, all the more so if she means it. She is a bit insulted Bellamy is going around behind her back to talk about her but a part of her also is warmed by the thought that he worries about her enough to do that. She is part of his kru. He said so and she believed him but it is good to feel it.
She supposes the way she averts her eyes betrays her and, really, she should have known better. She is slipping. From wormana to a ridiculous village girl with a crush.
“He likes you.” Raven says and there is a hint of warning in there.
Not for the first time, she wonders if there is something going on between them but she never saw any tangible proof of an attachment or an arrangement.
“He loves Wanheda.” she counters.
And it will be some time before he is done grieving for her death, she knows. When he does, she will be waiting. She can be patient. All the best hunters are. When he does, she will be there and she will conquer. But not before.
“We all loved Clarke.” Raven states, the tension briefly leaving her shoulders, replaced by a familiar sorrow Echo understands only too well.
She lost too many good commanders, too many good friends.
“Not like he did.” she whispers quietly. Not a question but a statement.
“No. Not like he did.” the other woman admits, her face hardening again. “Don’t hurt him or I will kick your ass.”
There is little chances that Raven can actually kick her ass but Echo smiles all the same because she appreciates the sentiment. It is good to know she is not the only one looking out for their leader’s wellbeing. Maybe they can bond over that, she thinks, over their friendship with Bellamy.
She bows her head in acknowledgement and Raven smiles back. Maybe it’s a little forced, maybe she’s trying a little too hard, but when the woman lights up like this, there is no resisting being swept by the whirlwind. Raven’s mind goes too fast and too far for most people to follow.
“So. Movie night.” Raven declares, grabbing her shoulder to nudge her toward the door. “You’re sitting next to me so I can explain and make fun of you when you don’t get the story.”
She is not an idiot and she is offended by the implication that she won’t understand a simple story – even if it’s likely to be true if the story is based on the ground from before Praimfaya – but she can recognize an offer of peace when she sees one.
It is an olive branch she intends to seize.

Sonic Picks 18
AF85: ハイパーオリンピック (DIAMOND EDITION) (2018)
Reviewed format: Limited Edition extended C35 Cassette tape EP on GENOT CENTRE / TOBAGO TRACKS
Today I'm back again already with a next part of my Sonic Picks series. The pick of today is this sweet extended C35 Cassette tape EP by AF85 titled ハイパーオリンピック (DIAMOND EDITION), released as a co-release between GENOT CENTRE and TOBAGO TRACKS in 2018. This extended version of the ハイパーオリンピック EP features 5 additional remixes of the EP to the original 6 track EP. The Limited Edition extended C35 Cassette tape EP comes packaged in a clear norelco case with some rather fancy details to it. First of all, the front of the case features a shiny blue diamond sticker put between the words DIAMOND EDITION, the title ハイパーオリンピック and artist name AF85 feature on the spine and the back of the case, on the short side of the j-card you can find label logos, EP credits, description and a link. Inside the case you can find the C35 Cassette tape itself which has this sweet blue-tinted clear shell with blue glitters inside, a red shiny diamond sticker marks side A, while side B is unmarked. Behind this is a download card and the tracklist is listed on the inside of the j-card.
Now, onto the music contained on the Cassette tape itself. ハイパーオリンピック (DIAMOND EDITION) is quite a quickly moving 35 minute EP, with none of the original tracks on side A being longer than 2 minutes and some of the remixes also being relatively short. But this is the kind of music that even with the miniature style of the compositions still sounds pretty dense, surreal and trippy. Side A kicks off with the original EP tracks. First we have DRI, an atmospheric Ambient piece with hints of New Age music but carrying a bit of a Vaporwave aesthetic too (this is also hinted in the Vaporwave style packaging design). Washes of clear sea like waves of synths accompany a simple 80's styled clicky synth melody. Very relaxing but also carrying some hidden touch of mystery within it. STORM directly carries on with this sound aesthetic, falling in pretty much the same key as the but in this piece we also have some airy female vocal samples, lush soft high synth notes and a calmer stream of droning pads. Then we have FIT which is all based around a single phasing synth drone, the New Age influences shift a bit more to the foreground again in this one with the airy sound of ths synths and more reduced melodic content. INTER then changes up the sound a bit more with more melodic variation and also a bit of a progression in the layered lush and sweeping synths and ethereal vocal samples, crossfading into a field recording of a sports competition. This is a hint of the theme of this EP and why the artist name is AF85, as I found out that if you look up AF85 on Instagram, you can find the offical account of an athlete. Which makes this a kind of sonification of sports and AF85 being the nickname of the athlete, making her anonymous which helps listeners focus more on the sound aesthetic AF85 created than on the details of the inspiration of this EP. ACC follows afterwards, which is the only track on the tape that features a bit, though it's pretty subtle, only including a snare / clap pattern. ACC's melody is a bit more poppy, feeling a bit like that R&B influenced, deconstructed club styled atmospheric kind of production style, lush vibes and a nice groove in here. And then we're already onto the OUTRO track, which directly follows from ACC in key as an outro of that track. Droning synths are accompanied by motivational words from (presumably) AF85 the athlete herself, making this track sound the most like Vaporwave. Once again, simple melody elements, but a sweet lush vibe that doesn't feel cheesy really. Afterwards we're already onto the first remix from the extended part of the Cassette tape, tacked onto the end of side A we have ハイパーオリンピック (Laura Luna Remix) which is a full EP rework by experimental musician and sound artist Laura Luna. Laura Luna layers mutiple layers os synth samples from the original EP tracks over eachother to create a dense and deep semi-plunderphonics type of aural tapestry. Subtly shifting from layer to layer Laura Luna repurposes AF85's music to create an ethereal ambient piece similar to the originals but also with plenty of fragmentation laying the looping audio files edits bare and revealing the techniques used to create the rework which adds a glitch inspired aesthetic to it. Laura Luna stays true to the sound of the samples in many ways so the rework does feel like a direct continuation of the EP itself but the stretched and looped sound do also add a feeling to it that sounds like the sonic reprocessing in your mind of impressions of music you just heard, constantly shifting towards certain details you remember and outputting those memories as loops. Like in a semi-sleeping state of mind. Great sound. Side B of the cassette tape continues the extended part of remixes with STORM (YlangYlang Remix). Like Laura Luna's rework, YlangYlang's Remix doesn't really try to unrecognizably distort the original sounds from the EP at the beginning but creates an atmosphere that is quite similar. YlangYlang's approach is more filtered however and with a different kind of progression. YlangYlang uses heavy filtering on the pad sound samples, creating a saturated fuzzy little cloud of sound floating around in a small spaces peacefully. Around half-way into the remix however YlangYlang brings in a distorted kick hit and adds Industrial elements to the mixture with hissy distorted percussion and fuzz with elements from the field recordings in the original tracks amplified and manipulated, creating hissy noisy waves of sound layered over the atmospheric pads. Very nice. Then we have INTER (eva01 + wim dehaen Remix) which mangles up the original track in a futuristic sci-fi deconstructed club style but with a very vibrant and quirky sound, full of funky tropical sounds and scattering liquidlike percussion but also plenty of excellent noisy glitched up sounds. Very enjoyable remix full of great sonic details and a quick pace. ACC (R D VENNING Remix) is a more noisier remix featuring heavy distortion but also unique dynamics in its composition and an abstract metallic style of grooves. The remix follows a pretty loose and unpredictable progression with more of a drone in terms of melodic elements, minimal sections of heavily manipulated samples and percussion bits are intertwined with sudden bursts of harsh distorted sound or melody with added EDM riser synth effects adding a wacky kind of touch to this remix which feels more like a walk in a strange alien zoo. Natural sounds and metallic digital manipulations blending into eachother like a reality that sometimes glitches out into a state of absolute black. Weird but cool remix. On the last track OUTRO (Yearning Kru YKV) Yearning Kru mangles up samples from the originals quite a lot, creating a tape saturated stream of psychedelic liquid mixed with natural minerals. This remix is more constant in composition, being based mostly around a drone for a big part of its length. Yearning Kru heavily manipulated especially the field recordings with distortion, pitch shifting and reverse, heavily amplifiying the high frequencies and creating cool crunchy and sharp effects. The applause from the ending of the field recording of OUTRO features heavily in this remix creating a sound similar to a river stream moving across little rocks in the water. In the end of the track you can also hear some cool hissy tape manipulation effects, very cool.
ハイパーオリンピック (DIAMOND EDITION) by AF85 is a nicely atmospheric and at times psychedelic tinged EP of experimental music that on the original tracks by AF85 features a lush and New Age tinged vibrant sound similar but not quite into Vaporwave, with a quickly flowing smooth tracklist that is a quick listen but rewards many repeated listens with its quality sound work and pleasant compositions. The remixes expand on the sonic palette of the original tracks but also offer more abstracted, trippy and deconstructed reworks of the source material and further explore the many details withing the field recordings as well as shape the pads in various ways creating alternate atmospheres in different places yet all combined working as a well compiled whole. A great listen for listeners into Vaporwave but looking for something more experimental and surprising. I also recommend the tape for anyone into the weird, quirky side of experimental music and sound art blending in both analog and digital sound manipulation into exciting sonic pieces. Great EP.

The Day He Left- A Eulogy to Amir Zaki
I have been trying to write something from a quite a few months ever since I came here to Poland, words come out but don’t string with each other. Whenever my friends ask what I do, I always tell them that the best thing I do is that ‘I write’, I haven’t discovered my genre yet but I write and that’s what I do. I steal the words from the books I read and try to put them in these blogs.
Since I always feel that I need a driving force to write something, and the incident that happened last Friday has kept me ‘uneasy’. Of course, everybody has to leave this world, and trust me how the things have convoluted over the past few years, that if somebody dies a natural death, I feel ‘a bit better’.
Much has been written and much should have been written about him, and much attention should have been given to the guy who left us last Friday. I still remember when I heard his first song and kept listening to it on for next many days, or in fact years because I still do. I still remember when I saw him in Uth Records and how excited I was about his part in the song. I had same adrenaline when I saw that he will be featuring in the Coke Studio.
No matter how ‘small’ his part was in all these episodes, but I always adored them and waited for his next song. Now that he is gone, we are only left with memories of him and all we can do is to yearn that he could have done more only if people wouldn’t mistreat him as they did.
Last Friday after Amir’s death, a friend of mine asked me what was my most favorite song of Amir Zaki, I kept thinking for a while, but I couldn’t come up with an answer rather I came up with a list and here it is.
I know that my words can never suffice for what work he has done but maybe this would be a eulogy to the best guitarist I ever knew. Of course, none of the songs mentioned below have any comparison even amongst themselves and I love them equally.
Living this lie
I really like the song and the best part of the song is the combination of Hadiqa’s voice with tabla and guitar by Zaki, and mind you, the bass guitar is also played by Zaki in this song as it is evident from the video as well.
Bhula Dena
Although the whole song is a brilliant musical piece, the part where he sings “Tum he say kru ga piyar bhula dena” has always been so special.
Tumhari Ankhon Mein
This was one of his attempts to correlate with the young generation through the music video and with a new bassist and drummer, although it failed to catch eyeballs, as always never failed to capture his fans’ attention. Because you could hear his ‘signature’ tunes ;)
Chehra
Although his episode of CS, according to him was just a show up for his fans but even in that he didn’t fail to mesmerize the audience. Even though he played a good piece in song Sab Aakho but I liked this one more.
Aangan
Aangan always had a special place in my playlist as it had a story of two guys struggling with a span of 20 years difference but both having only one Messiah, Zaki.
Aou Bethi kaisi ho
Aou bethi ho was released 3 years ago, but I heard it after a long time and that at a time when I needed a dose of such songs but only this song sufficed. It such a simple song with a really soothing tune which is supported by some strong lyrics and collectively it is one of Zaki’s best song.
Is baar Milo
This is also one of the songs of Hadiqa’s album Rough Cut. From the video to the mystical electric guitar in the background, Hadiqa’s magical voice, and simple yet powerful lyrics, this definitely was and will always be close to his fans always. And by the way I loved the way how he’s smoking in the start of the video, sheer swag.
The day she left
The day she left is an instrumental from his album Signature, I am short of words for the guitar he played in 1995, when most of the bands were looking for powerful vocalists, he was breaking the barriers by playing solo guitar and my o' my how he used to play is clearly depicted in this song.
Mera Piyar
And of course, without this song, the list would have been incomplete. I used to feel very different about this song when I heard it, it was one of the classics on PTV. But after his death, I started hating this song. Yes! I started hating it because all the people I knew were just talking about this song, and I ask WHY? Why remember such a legendary guitarist by one song only? But love or hate this, it is such a shame, that this was the song he was and will be known for, forever I guess.
People ar People
But I guess Zaki knew the people much better than rest of us because he cleared it in this song...
My apologies, I didn’t intend to write it this long but I couldn’t help myself and I still believe that much can be written and said about him and his music. People in my country look for geniuses inside laboratories and educational institutes but sometimes they are found in addicts and guitar strings. Farewell Amir Zaki, you’ll be missed. I wish to see you jamming in the heaven.

Your mouths spilling words Armed for slaughter. You, who gave me my first name, you, Pawnee, Apache, Seneca, you Cherokee Nation, who rested with me, then Forced on bloody feet, Left me to the employment of Other seekers – desperate for gain, Starving for gold. I, the Rock, I the River, I the Tree I am yours – your passages have been paid. Here, on the pulse of this new day You may have the grace to look up and out And into your sister’s eyes, and into Your brother’s face, your country And say simply Very simply With hope – Good morning.

Yearning Kru(From Taiwan), BRF(From Japan), DANTHRAX * 입장료: 10,000원 * 문의 : [email protected] * 공간 특성상, 50명의 입장이 마감되면 이후 입장은 제한됩니다. * 공연 당일, 우주만물 영업은 2시 - 5시 30분로 진행됩니다. Yearning Kru Croydon's Yearning Kru uses digital technology and specifically sampling to make a unique lo-fi psychedelic environment. There is a large visual element with all his artwork self-made and live performances accompanied by his own distinctive visual montages. His work is inspired by the world-building aspect of various literary fantasy environments, especially Gormenghast and Dune, and the music is a psychedelic representation of landscapes rather than narratives of characters (as more song-based music might represent). The tracks function as viewpoints into a world for a brief period of time, and and the world represented is one of small workshops toiling and churning in the shadow of great hives of technology.
