I have finally posted the first chapter my new multi-chap fic, We Were Younger! It's a Life is Strange inspired fic where Noel gets the chance to change the life he had before his death, through the power of rewind powers! It's mostly Noel centric with plenty of Nischa, but most importantly, it will be interactive! There will be a few choices for people to make along the way that will determine the course of the story, so I hope people like it!

Okay so first off hi i'm new here on the RTC side.

I wanna start by saying up until 20 mins ago (when i started falling down a rabbit hole) i was ADAMANT that natalia was real. But the evidence i found CANNOT be a coincidence??

So welcome to my dumb tedtalk.

So I was looking into the name natalia (idk why man, hyperfixtion brainrot is wild) and when you google Natalia origin it states that the name is given to girls who are born on or around a holiday that the name (and it's latin origins) mean. that holiday?? CHRISTMAS

Now, i think MOST people know Noel is also associated with christmas, but i did look into it more and YES it does indeed mean chirstmas.

NOW I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING, this CAN just be a conicidence. I know THAT part can. Lots of names can do with christmas, BUT IT GOES DEEPER.

BOTH names come from latin origins. and yes everybody BOTH NAMES STEM FROM THE SAME LATIN WORD: Natalis.

This means that Natalia, while sounding different from the name Noel, IS the female version of Noel and vice versa. (yes noelle exists, you can have more than one female version)

hell, if you look up natalia in the oxford name dictionary it literally says: (compare > Noel). If you can't trust me, trust oxford.

NATALIA MEANS NOEL, NOEL MEANS NATALIA THEY ARE THE SAME MEANING, THE SAME WORD BUT DIFFFERENT, SYNONYMS IN LATIN. JUST GENDERED.

So like, THIS CAN'T BE A COINCODINCE?? and even if the chance is that it is I'M IGNORING IT?? THIS IS TOO CRAZY TO IGNORE??

So yeah, while talia being a codename for noel is not a new headcanon to some, Mischa and noel coming up with Natalia becuase A. Noelle is way too close B. Natalia is an actual name used in ukraine and noelle isn't. and C. It's the same name, but only they know.

Yeah so i spent a lot of time looking into this and i'm both shook and exhausted, please enjoy and please do NOT tell me it's nothing, it's not NOTHING to me!

♪ Basically rehearsal 4 ♪

I think you know the context by now.

Anyways, this was one of our more chaotic rehearsals! The only people to show up were Ocean, me obviously and Karnak 1. We gathered at the front of our school (sounds so formal omg) and biked to Mischa's place. This is because the school KICKED US OUT because of some important formal discussions idfk lol. Our original plan was to perform in that same football field that we did in rehearsal 1, but Mischa is sick so we aggressively broke into his house. Then we made tostis and discussed some upcoming plans like costumes and places we'll be performing and such (and I was enlightened on how theatre rights work, as well as how to pronounce the 'th' sound! Overall it was very chaotic in his house! We also watched another production of rtc and changed a few scenes (we now have a suuuuuper sweet Nischa scene after Talia that honestly almost made me cry...I'll talk about it later). Then we got to practicing the scene where Ricky finally gains confidence and talks about being a prophet from Zolar! Very cool, we completely finished that scene and it has some inhabitable planet (RickyxOcean) in it but only for a little...so yeah spacedolls is the main ship but there's some moments of Ricky and Ocean, once again I'm going to discuss that in a post I'm gonna make about ships in our production! We also exchanged random silly Tumblr videos because why not. Then we did some choreo for What The World Needs and for Noels Lament. How we did that last one without Noel? Simple! Karnak 1 was our substitute Noel (Noel was originally their top 1 choice but they've made peace with being Karnak and are great at being in character). Oh almost forgot! Before all the scenes and choreo we did some character-building! We all had to draw ourselves the way our characters would draw themselves (drawing in character) obviously I made Ricky a furry bachelor man haha. Also it was with crayons and we all collectively broke the crayons! And then we had to present the drawings in-character! We also got a bunch of funny 'Behind The Scenes' videos. Oh and we practiced some stage-kissing for no reason at all...Overall, fun stuff! Then we decided to leave Mischa's house (Mischa stayed because he is still very much sick, beterschap man!!) and go to the playground near the football field because we just wanted to go on the swings (I've explained it in rehearsal 1) but there were people so we followed Ocean (bad idea) to this other playground but there were kids there too so we all just went home and got lost and had to wait an absurd amount of time because PRINSJESDAG (Dutch holiday, kinda sucks cause there's horses and parades everywhere) and then FINALLY made it back to the school and me and Karnak 1 biked home together and talked about our totally 100% legal teacherfanfiction and rtc headcanons. I've forgotten a lot because s t u p i d and also I'm tired but yeah, loads of fun, sadly probably no other rehearsal this week (it is my only life source and I am DEVASTATED but we really have to find times that are good for everyone.)

OH YEAH! Course I do!

Ocean - Parents aren’t abusive by any means, but fairly neglectful and high like all the time. She designed her room to be as unlike the rest of the house as possible, burns candles and insence so she doesn’t have to smell that stuff

Noel - He loves his mom a lot, but she’s barely ever home. She’s a nurse and has to work a lot to support the two of them since she got pay docked. His father left when he was 11. His grandparents don’t really talk to him or his mother since they “don’t approve of them”. I’ll also add that Noel tried to run away when he was 11 or 12, thinking it’d be easier on his mom. The Blackwoods took care of him for a day or 2 then brought him home.

Mischa - Poor little fella…his foster parents really don’t take great care of him, so he basically rotates between living with the rest of the choir. Oftentimes he’ll spend the days at the Blackwood Cafe helping Constance, then go to Ricky’s to sleep (Ricky is the only one with a guest bedroom) or Noel’s (Nischa shipper here, they like to share bed sometimes)

Ricky - I’ve 100% hopped on the ‘Ricky has 2 moms’ train I’ve seen some people taking and holy shit does Ricky have one of the best home lives. His mothers care so much for them, and the ‘weird sign language only they understand’ is a corruption of ASL they made so that Ricky could better use it without hurting and overworking his joints. They’re busy women but their child is their pride and joy.

Penny - Nothing much to say, LegoLand explains it. I want to add that she and Ezra are basically tied at the hip and get eachother “world’s best sibling” merch every holiday

Constance - The Blackwoods are lovely people. Constance helps out in the cafe with them, and they’re the reason that both Mischa and Ocean have jobs. Constance also has a close bond with her toddler age brother, Henry Blackwood.

I'm a multishipper when it comes to *some* of the characters yeah, the only Ocean ship I like is perfectdolls, idk why it's the only one that doesn't seem to be wildly toxic at least in theory. But I ship perfectdolls, mischalia, nischa, spacerap, starrypoet, sugarspace, sugardolls/sheep, norey/frenchrap, bridebite, lovebite, whatever Trishna and Hank are, and whatever Penny x Trishna is, you'll probably get art of some of them but not all.

Ocean would try to find a prestigious college in Uranium so she could stay close to Constance but I think ultimately might go to Harvard. Dunno what she'd go into. Maybe teaching so she could be a principal or superintendent eventually (Practicing to be the Prime Minister of Canada). Constance would work at the Blackwood Café while doing online schooling. Dunno what she'd go into either...maybe culinary? Mischa would either take a gap year or just not go to college cause he prefers his rap career. Either way, he'd get a full-time job (probably has one already considering shitty parents don't care about him). He'd also get an apartment the moment he's legally and financially able to (unfortunately doesn't have enough money to get out of Uranium, yet). The rest of the choir would help him settle in. If he did go to college, he'd probably major in music. Penny might go into Forensics/Criminology, Psychology, or Zoology. She might try to go for all three at once. Ricky would go into creative writing but I have a feeling he'd major and/or minor in something else. I don't know what, tho. Noel would want to study abroad in France. Would he be able to? Not very likely. Maybe the choir would pitch in to help, that'd be nice. He'd major in French literature and culture, maybe minor in theater.

Ocean and Noel are like siblings (hate each other {and Noel knows when to shut Ocean down} but care about each other), Penny has so many dark facts about animals, Ricky learned ASL on his own and has an AAC device, they all probably learn French cause they're Canadian but Noel likes to use it a lot in day to day life (but he also tries to use more European French than Canadian French), Ricky has a whole Google Doc and at least a few notebooks/sketchbooks dedicated to Zolar, they also have a DeviantArt account, Ricky's also trans but I can't decide which trans she is (like idk if they're Transmasc, Transfem, Gender fluid, Nonbinary... Ricky is THE transgender-) he uses any pronouns tho, Ocean is AroAce or Lesbian {either way, she is not attracted to men}, Constance loves baking for the choir and she makes sure to take into account any and all dietary restrictions, Ocean is a vegan, Mischa is unphased by horror movies but if he's watching one with someone else and they seem terrified he'll talk throughout the movie to make them less terrified and if they're enthusiastic he'll talk through some of it to point out details he notices, Mischa is like the older brother the choir never knew they needed, Ocean would probably add more (or has more) religions onto her list of religions (also for some reason, Ocean with a hijab is appealing to me), Ricky likes putting buttons on their uniform and customizing almost everything they own (such as technology, disability aids, sketchbooks, etc.) with cool stickers, Penny and Ricky (and maybe even Ezra) like to talk about Fnaf theories, Ricky has the choir beta read her writing {Penny, Mischa, and Constance tend to be the ones to do it}, when Noel finally feels comfortable to be Lola Lola for Halloween, Mischa and Ricky support him through dressing in drag with him, Mischa offers up stick and poke tattoos and Penny and Noel are the only two who take him up on it (Noel gets a bleeding, broken heart struck with an arrow on his shoulder, Penny gets a snake eating it's own tail on the back of her wrist, and Mischa gets a mixture of the two by the inside of his elbow), they're all autistic, and I think I should stop there cause oh man I didn't realize how many I had (i should make a doc or something with all of my headcanons-)

authors note: yeah this might be bias, because I am also in fact genderfluid. this is lightly nischa-coded. if you don’t like it scroll past.

- definitely figured out in their later teen years, didn’t get exposed to most identities before because of their lack of exposure to it. his mom took her time to get used to it, but she generally just wanted her kid to be happy.

- I’m a ‘Noel’s mom is amazing’ truther. I think she’s mostly worried about Noel fitting in because she grew up there, and is afraid of him getting bullied. Noel didn’t start talking to her about it, until she found the identity that fit her the best.

- the rest of the group is.. strange about it. But again, it revolves around lack of exposure. Ocean probably had the more obnoxious reaction out of the group. But when does she not? - she takes her time to come around to it, but eventually will verbally correct someone if they mess up pronoun wise. 

- surprisingly Mischa was not the first that found out, because when Noel initially found out they weren’t AS close. The more observant of the group, who just happens to be Ricky, asked them about it not far into Noel finding out. It started as subtle things, press on nails and bits of makeup from more fem days,  - very “hey, are you trans?” one day, and noel was surprised as all hell, but eventually just confirmed his suspicions.  my queer and potentially trans ricky agenda is growing 

- mischa found out, after finding himself at the gruber’s house, avoiding his adopted parents. noel’s mother had surprised her with a flag, and not long after mischa came in, his eyes wondered to it.  “erm.. what’s this one mean?”  - after a very long conversation about what it meant, specifically for his friend, he’s hell bent on understanding.  - even after they get together, mischa would be damned if he let anyone run their mouth about his partner.  scary dog privileges. he’s always lurking  - constance starts to help noel find their real style, and after a bit of watching in horror, ocean steps in to help.  ocean has a strange sense of fashion herself, but it simply means she has a little bit of everything.  - what would now be considered dark academia and traditional gothic start to catch noel’s eye, in a way monique is definitely reflected in her fashion sense a lot. she’s a way noel could project their feelings onto a character, and write without immediately having to out themself as having those feelings personally.  - lots of mall run’s outside of town. whether it be extending noel’s style while masc or just getting them their first real fem presenting clothes.  - penny isn’t very.. aware of any of this stuff's meaning. but she will do her best to support regardless. they are her friends after all.  - nonbinary penny, that’s all I will say.  - things are tough, seeing as they do go to a religious high-school, but the choir itself is fairly isolated from the rest of the school.  - any dances, are usually also heavily monitored, so the group doesn’t hesitate to make their own.  - mischa always checking on his partner to make sure however he brags about them that day is comfortable for them  - the best dysphoria comfort is watching Lola, or old romances.

speaking of which, fem gender euphoria for them looks a lot like big curly hair and old timey makeup with torn tights, and masc euphoria can definitely include tucked in sweaters and fancy ties.

so, let me give some informations nobody wants :)

Ocean "Honey": don't ask for the name, it's a pet name or whatever you say. Uh so i previously had this idea of her wanting to be an organ doner and wanting peace in the world so i gave her happy and childish clothes an very bog eyes bc whyy not :I

Jane Doe: so this one i kinda madec her randomly i guess :III i already knew that she wouldn't have any face bc as i said before,, she was disfigured and i'm kinda proud of how it turned out ? and her mouth is her belly bc on the first drawing i've made a little funny looking line and it looked like the outline of a monster's mouth so- and she don't move her arms bc she is the most charismatic creature you could ever see so arms behind her back and slay :DDD

Constance "Soap": Mischa named her and she liked it so yeah. she have thpse weird limbs made in some sort of cloud, nobody knows why even her. But she also have a broken jaw bc "Jawbreaker" and this thick line on her eyes bc no gore in the choir >:((

Ricky "K-9": I thought it would be funny to have a ricky dog monster bc he wants to be the opposite of it and as you can see i'm not into giving the kids their dreams. So i kinda gave him this animal (?) looking body, but you must know that i'm not rly into drawing furry or animals (i kinda suck at it) so yeah. You can see that he have ears, three fingers and a thumb on his forearms and dog (i think) looking legs. But i delibarately decided that he shall not have a tail bc first of all i need to remind you that not a single one of them can be considered human because of their weird proportions or other and also bc ricky needs to be at least a bit human. Also maybe I should change his pronouns by it/they or something like this. Not a professional on pronouns so if you guys have ideas i might take them (this also counts for Jane)(and after this i don't rly know it might sadly just harden the writing for me) (bc in france we don't have a lot of pronouns :( ) (but i can try)

Noel "Gibeau": not a lot to say on this one, he's the mom friend bc he remembers things from before even at the end where his memory would have finish to "burn". I don't know if any thing that i'm saying makes sense, i'm doing my best (plus my laptop is so slow lmao). He's the most intelligent one and tries to get things clear with Karnak but they can't rly have a proper discussion bc the whole choir are walking suicidal babies.

Mischa "King Midas" or simply "Midas": this may be one of my favorites. So this little guy here thinks he's Midas. But maybe he is. We don't rly know bc his powers are apparently too powerful so it can become dangerous. So he wears gloves :I he's the selfish/proud one so he found himself a little crown (who is it fact a princess toy crown but nobody tells him even Honey). He have a little bonus, and it's that he falled in love with the first person he saw- this person being Gibeau because we always love some fancy Nischa >:)) and at the start it's onesided. I mean it's normal bc Noel is the one taking care of eveeryone and there's this weird teenage fucker who comes and heavily flirts with him so yeah. And I actually don't know if gibeau will ever like him back. Maybe after the equivalent of Talia (where i think we could have a little lament replacing all the romance) he would kinda fall... yeah i don't know

Karnak "Zolar": yeah K-9 give him his nickname like he gave one to Jane in the canon. He's not really special c ompared to everyone else, he's just the tired dad who will die in one hour.

lemme know what you guys think of that, i was planning on calling it the Catastrophy AU or something in this spirit because it's not really happy to have six unidentified teenagers who died. Yeah sorry if my english's awkward, not bilingual yet :I

An AU where all the kids from the choir are Janes/John's Doe ? And like, their memory wouldn't be completely erased (bc Jane had her head chopped off so kinda radical) and like, with the thing they remember, they sing their song.

And it would be interesting to have the wounds that caused death also involved in the loss of memory. Because the original jane knows how she died, the kids would also know. And each wound would be related to the characters : like Noel would die with a lot of burn marks (because fire is usually the element of passion) and so his memory would progressively burn too (at the start, he would remember a lot of things and look a bit human, before slowly degrading), etc

For the wounds I thought :

Ocean would have perforated eardrums (because as a leader, you're supposed to listen to the others but she didn't)

Noel would have the burn marks

Mischa would have scrap perforating his heart (I think this one is pretty obvious, but it's bc he's very emotional)

Ricky would have his vocal chords completely wasted by the smoke (because on zolar, his capacity to sing very high is important I guess ?? and also because when you want peace, you need a voice)

Penny/Jane would be disfigured (do I really need to explain why ?)

And Constance would have a problem with her eyes, I don't really know what exactly. Perhaps she could have her eyes uh- you know, gone (i'm trying to keep this family friendly 😭😭) or maybe the smoke or maybe the sparks, I don't know (this one is bc in sugar cloud, she refer a lot to the vision so yeah)

And like at the end they still didn't understood wtf they needed to do so Karnak dies and like

They stand here

And happy ending : they see the light and are like "ooh fancy" and go in it or bad ending : they stand so still that they slowly become ruins, not dying completely, just here, standing, without any will to live

Yeah, I don't think people consider that there are actual people behind the blogs.

I really wasn't a fan of that 'storyline' type thing, I do find that ocean ask blog funny. But some of the stuff they say and set up as ocean can be really questionable and border on illegal.

Another important thing is the babying of, specifically Mischa, but RTC ask blogs in general. Because a lot of people headcanon him as autistic, including me, people seem to really infantilize the characters. It's either treating Mischa like really sexually or like he is really stupid, kind of like how ocean treats ricky in the actual show.

But it's just so abnormal how people treat specifically Mischa blogs, or just Mischa in general. I mean, searching nischa on ao3 just comes up with the most extreme sexual shit. Also the harassment of mischa's actual actors? So fucking weird.

Yes. I can't pick one favourite. They all go so hard.

If I can count cut songs, Tragic Fact. Not that it's bad or I genuinely dislike it or anything, I still know all the words and bop to it, but I think it's one of the weaker intros cause it's kind of excessively long without giving that many details aside from 'this town sucks ass'.

If I rank them by personal taste and not by their actual effectiveness at establishing the start of a story then, Waiting for the Drop, The Fall Fair Suite, The Uranium Suite, U-R-A-N-I-U-M, Tragic Fact (I think The Uranium Suite is the best one at establishing the story though and I get why they went with it)

BUT AT THE TOP OF THE PEAK THERE'S A MOMENT WHERE YOU'RE KING OF THE WORLD AND SUDDENLY YOU'RE HURLED OVER UP AND THEN DOWN TOWARDS THE CARNIVAL GROUND SCREAMING JOIN THE CRAZY TWISTED SYMPHONY OF SOUND 🗣🗣🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I'm not the biggest Nischa endgame shipper. At least, not unless they do genuinely stay dead. I think it's cute as a mutual crush, but if Mischa came back to life and didn't have a big happy family with Talia after a song and monologue like that I would cry

Perfectdolls. There's nothing funnier or sweeter to me than this bitchy ginger having her entire understanding of herself and her sexuality flipped on its head because of some weird creepy doll girl. Plus, if they come back to life, I think Ocean dating an autistic girl would really put into perspective how terrible she's been to disabled and queer people and she'd probably improve a lot more

Mmm probably Ocean and Constance? Not that I don't get it, but I just think Constance probably had a big crush on Ocean that got steadily ruined over time by Ocean's behaviour and I doubt Constance would want to be anything more than friends after all that.

LISTEN. Jane Doe is Ocean's character arc. Yeah Constance is absolutely part of it in making Ocean realize how terrible she's been, but Jane Doe is a physical manifestation of Ocean's bigotry and her gradual acceptance of her is Ocean coming to terms with herself and starting to be better. To go from calling Jane a thing and a freaky monster, to hearing her pain and actually trying to do something as opposed to brushing it off by throwing her a party and writing her a song, to ultimately choosing Jane over herself to come back to life because Ocean isn't the most important person in the room and she isn't better than Jane Doe. To be the physical embodiment of someone's capacity and gradual willingness to change, can that not be considered love?

Okay listen, we all know the McCarter Theatre production was fucked behind the scenes, but with that said, the choreography that Eli Mayer does in This Song is Awesome and Talia is amazing and the entire staging of thay version of Talia is brilliant (my one gripe with Talia is his mispronounciation of the Ukrainian but honestly that's probably the fault of whatever dialect coach they brought in)

I have far too many headcanons for RTC so um... a random headcanon for Ocean is that she secretly likes Mischa's music and has an account on YouTube no one knows about that she saves all his song with

This one is kind of nitpicky, but because I'm a nerd it's always bugged me how the accident happened. Because it is SO UNLIKELY that they would've come off the track at the apex of a loop. There's too much centripetal force and inertia acting on the car to keep it on the track. My 'theory' on how this could actually be possible is that the loop they were on was one of those ones that starts to twist halfway through the loop, which they call an Immelmann roll I believe? The axel broke as they were coming to the twisty bit, so they were starting to go sideways as opposed to directly upside down, which is what allows them to come off the track while still being more or less upside down for the whole 'saling through space' stuff.

The overwhelming theme of love. Ride the Cyclone is funny and dark and the characters are flawed, but at the end of the day, everyone in the show either expresses their love and passion for something, or they learn to be more open to love and to become a better person. It's a show about how powerful and important love is and how, if shown enough of the kindness and compassion there is in the world, anyone is capable of change.
