in defense of Luke Castellan:
I think it's a pretty common opinion that Luke was right and just went about it the wrong way, that's certainly the conclusion Percy comes to and the message the books push.
I think most who dislike Luke bring up how he confessed his "love" for Annabeth before he dies. The thing is, I don't think this was Rick's intent at all. I genuinely think Rick forgot that he made Luke significantly older while writing the last book.
It doesn't make any sense narratively to make Luke come out as a pedophile in his last dying moments. Especially since Percy calls him a hero directly after. Luke's death is meant to be a tragedy. It's also entirely out of character. I think it's made explicitly clear in the other four books that Luke loves Annabeth in a fraternal kind of way.
Personally, I think this part of the book is negligible and doesn't even make sense.

I am officaly finished with the Titan's Curse and OH MAN- So first off, I hate the gods. I just genuinely hate them 💀 I can't stand them for the life of me I SWEAR TO GOD-
Like, are those guys for real? Percy saves them/Artemis for a THIRD TIME and they contemplate bloody MURDERING the guy!? I mean Artemis was reasonable at least even though I still don't particularly LIKE her since the Hunters of Artemis still weird me out with all that man-hating. And Poseidon was okay too- BUT THE REST OF THE GODS!? What a bunch of ungrateful, wannabe good guys omfg.
I swear with every second I spend on these books I become more and more of a Luke apologist. What the Heck. Second off, Thalia suddenly joining the Hunters- like what?Well okay, I GET it that is was used as a way to avoid the prophecy for her. But for most the book she seemed to atleast have STRUGGLED with the idea. I would have liked that being more devled into, since to me her suddenly joining came a bit sudden if you think about her relationship with the Hunters (and especially Zoe) before. I guess the whole thing can be explained with Luke "letting her down", still though. It wasn't like Luke switching sides was anything NEW to her ! She KNEW what Luke was up to, him "letting her down" couldn't have been anything new. I also think she shouldn't have been made lieutenant going in tbh. She is a new comer, even if she's highly skilled and has proven herself already. That would be like a newbie in a highly specialized military unit who has known eachother for AGES immediately being promoted to commander. Someone who was with Artemis longer would have fit better imo. Thalia could easily have become the lietenant later on ! But right now it feels a undeserved for me. Much more being Artemis playing favorites than Thalia having the skills. Third off, NICO'S A HADES KID ????? AND APPARENTLY ALSO A SEMI TIME TRAVELER FROM (AROUND) WW2 ????
Man and I though Luke being the traitor threw me for a loop- BUT APPARENTLY WW2 ERA DEMIGODS ARE NOW A THING ! SAME THING FOR BIANCA. Honestly I have no idea what to make of all that- but as someone who knows their fare share of history? I'm PRAYING Nico and Bianca are americans with Italian roots (since they seem to have an italian lastname) and NOT actual italians. Them being from Italy during THAT time opens a whole can of worms I do NOT want to get into-
But also OUCHY on that whole part. Poor Nico, I hope he's okay. I also doubt Chiron even cares for the campers tbh. With the comment of him on Nico's disappearance.... yeah no. Those demigod kids really were always just a means to and end to everyone, huh ?
(Please mark any spoilers in your replies/reblogs so I can avoid them, thank you ^^ )

Okay I'm finally sitting down to properly watch the PJO series so here's an episode-by-episode live blog I guess. (Fair warning, I haven't read the books since I was a teenager, I am a smidge of an apologist for the films, and my favorite adaptation so far has been the musical.)
Episode One:
All of the actors are doing a really good job, I especially like Sally.
The costume design for both the monsters and the humans is pretty killer. I want Percy's sweater.
I also love the little seaside cabin and want to live there!!!
This is such a mild gripe BUT as someone with dyslexia I wish there was a better way to visually depict it without like, doing the swapping letters thing cuz that's just not what it's actually like at all.
Gabe maybe feels a little too funny. Like I'm supposed to hate him and think it's justified that he deserves to be turned into stone at the end, this version of him is really.....toned down, and his banter with Percy and Sally was fun to watch. I should hate him, but really he just came across as unpleasant. Less abusive asshole and more "old married couple who share interests but can't communicate without shouting" you know?
Loved Grover's little "I'm 24 actually" lmao that was great.
Not a fan of Percy immediately recognizing the Minotaur within a millisecond of it appearing before the audience even got a good look at it. Like, I just sat there thinking "how can he even see it?" rather than feeling scared of a big monster barreling at them.
The action is uh....fine? Feels a little lackluster. Or kinda....divorced from the rest of the show weirdly?? Idk it makes me feel like I'm watching a movie of a movie if that makes sense?? But we'll see where they go with it. (I know banter during a fight isn't realistic and people make fun of Marvel for it, but like...it helps to have at least a little talking. We don't wanna be Man of Steel.)
I feel like there's been a few "slightly out of sync ADR" moments but they weren't too distracting.
Pacing into Sally saying goodbye felt a little long, kinda took the shock of her dying out of the scene, but the actress REALLY sold all the emotional beats so I'll forgive it.
I LOVE the credits sequence!!! Reminds me of the designs on that one box set of the books in a really cool way.
Episode Two:
Oh yes the ugly ass neon orange shirts are here bless!
FUCK YES THAT'S DIONYSUS BAYBEEE!! My ONLY note is that he def could have turned up the energy a little, but that's probably just bcs I love how loud and unpleasant he is in the musical and I also know how unhinged this actor can be.
Chiron is such a delight <3
I like the cabins too, way better than how I imagined them as a kid reading the books lol
Oh, I can see why the new fans fell for Luke so hard.
Grover assuming a human being squished would be like an old banana is very funny. Felt very book-humor in a good way.
Clarisse!!
Oh damn actual disabled half-bloods, very cool!
Minor but I can't actually tell what Percy did wrong with the bow? Weird editing I guess.
Aside from that I actually love a good "fuck up" montage, I honestly wish it were a little longer.
Probably doesn't matter but I don't get having them burn the food after they've started eating? I thought that was a before you sit down type thing.
Percy burning the blue candy to try to talk to his mom was sweet tho T_T
"real friends" hahahaha.....yeah.......about Luke.......
yay! hazing!
Oh I love Annabeth already >:D
Thalia.....is pronounced differently than I thought....?
(I'm sorry I'm too much of a fan of 'Tree on the Hill' for this exposition dump. That shit hits harder when coming from Grover.)
Percy giving Annabeth the "actually I suck and my self esteem is riding on this so like pls don't ask me to do anything hard T_T" talk is just, so good lmao
ofc he doesn't know what's going on Annabeth you didn't tell him anything
Okay the action is a lot better when it's between the actual characters and doesn't involve a 3D monster, though I still had trouble following all the hits Percy was taking.
Oooh I can see why people did so much art of Percy being claimed that was a good shot.
FUCK YEAH TELL HIM YOU'RE SALLY JACKSON'S SON
(I hope they kept the Oracle in the attic...)
Okay I have to go do some things and then I'll be back for more!

Hey CJ, you mentioned that you disagree with a lot of your old TWDG opinions, any that stand out you wanna share? Also i agree with what you said about wanting to play the series for the first time again with no prior knowledge - i would love to meet louis character for the first time again.
Yeah, some opinions have changed with time and moving on from being a hardcore, active fan in the fandom. I'm pretty sure I've talked about some of them more recently, like how I used to not like Jane but now I've become something of a "Jane apologist," if you will.
I was also super vocal about hating the Clementine comics when the 12-page comic dropped, and I'm pretty sure I was shitty about Tillie Walden... which I look back on now and feel embarrassed. In fact, I specifically remember calling attention to the fact that Skybound turned off comments on the first book trailer and on their instagram, twitter, etc. and being like, "look at these COWARDS! they know we hate the comic and that Tillie's a bad artist, they're trying to shut us up!" ........but then I heard they turned them off because Tillie was getting threats, and it caused me to dig around and see the vile shit fans were saying.... It gave me pause to think things through and I feel very differently about it all now.
I've also changed my mind on Minerva. Like Jane, there was a loooong period of time where I didn't like her, but now? I think she's great. A real tragedy.
In fact, real talk, I think my perspective on most of the female characters in TWDG has shifted dramatically. I've done a lot of thinking on this just in general; I'm much harder on female characters than male characters. I can pretend like noooooo I was always soooo fair... but no, not always. I'm sure it's from some deep-rooted, internalized misogyny I have that I'm working on, but I also think the games sometimes neglect those characters, too. Which makes it easier to brush them off as just "poorly-written" and "bad characters" if I don't like them when that's not always the case.
Or let's be real, we all know how this goes; the games give us a flawed male character and fans are like "he's my blorbo, here's a 50k essay about why he deserved better and a list of my headcanons and the twenty AUs I've written for them-" but then a female character's just as flawed and fans are like "lol she's poorly written, here's an essay on why-"
Don't look at me like that. I know I'm guilty of this. I know y'all remember Mitch. Back in the day, Mitch was my boy and I used to write about him all the time but like... god forbid I put that much effort into writing about Violet or Minerva, right?
Or even look at Kate, for example. Past CJ would've talked about how much she doesn't like Kate and she hates the forced romance with Javi, she's just there as a way to make David and Javi fight, etc. But you ask me about Kate now and I'm like, "Girl, ANF did you so dirty, you didn't deserve this."
Or how about Bonnie in S2? We all love to hate on Bonnie, but like... she's such an interesting character?? She's a recovering drug addict so desperate for a place, and you can see Carver's manipulation at play in the way she talks about him to Clementine. It takes seeing him physically beat Kenny within an inch of his life before she's like "Yeah no, fuck this, we're leaving tonight." And we give her shit about Luke's death and being mean to Clementine but frankly? Yeah, she's mean to Clementine and that's fine.
What, it's okay for Kenny to lash out and call her a stupid kid when Sarita dies because he's your poor meow meow and it makes his character soooo morally gray and complex? But Bonnie lashes out about Luke's death and suddenly she's just a massive piece of shit? No complexities or anything? There's no grey morality? No underlying motive or emotions behind the choice to abandon the group with Mike and Arvo?? She's just a bitch??
And do I even need to talk about Sarah? Hmm? We all know how Sarah was received and how fans still talk about her. Again, Sarah has a complete meltdown over losing her father and people get hurt, and fans wish death upon her... but Kenny has a meltdown and brutally beats up Arvo or threatens to smack Clementine or a number of things.... "that's fine, he's just really upset, he lost his family, y'know? everyone keeps trying to GASLIGHT me that he's bad but if you really think about it, Arvo totally deserved to be abused and it's actually Clementine's fault Kenny hit her because she tried to stop him-"
I just... the lengths we go to justify and defend this violent, toxic character but then act like Jane is the worst, I can't-
It's so funny to me whenever I see someone in the fandom complain about wanting more morally grey, flawed female characters because like... y'all couldn't even handle Jane. Or Lilly. Or Sarah. Or Bonnie. Rebecca. Eleanor. Christa. Minerva and Violet, in a lot of cases. So like... what do you actually want?
Note that I'm guilty of this, too, and I've asked myself that question... haven't fully worked out the answer yet.
That's the major thing that comes to mind about opinions I had that I've changed my mind about. I think a big factor in that is letting twdg go and getting invested in other fandoms, doing a lot more reading, getting back into writing, etc. Obviously I've really gotten into the Dragon Age fandom and that's what triggered this "journey of self-reflection~" when it comes to how I perceive female characters. Like, you want flawed, morally-grey ladies? That's your series... assuming you can actually handle it.
But I also recently finished a playthrough of Fallout New Vegas and remembered my love for Veronica Santangelo, like... I don't care that the game doesn't technically have romance, that's my girlfriend, I love her. Then the other night I finished my first playthrough of Life is Strange True Colors [I know, where the fuck have I been, right?] and I spent 40% of the time looking at flowers, 10% being sad about Gabe, and the other 50% trying to figure out who I liked more, Steph or Ryan.
I've also been reading a lot of wlw novels which is just..... THAT'S a whole mess I won't get into because this is already long enough and you didn't ask. Just know that's also another factor in this reflection.
And to answer the other part of your ask: I miss Louis. I would love to play TFS again for the first time again, that was a fun time.

OH YEAH EVEN AS A PREQUEL AND ANAKIN STAN AND A KID WHO GREW UP WITH AHSOKA I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN THE AHSOKA SERIES
I WAS 14 WHEN AHSOKA WAS 14 AND I GREW UP WITH THAT GIRL
EVEN THOUGH I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE WORKED ON THE SERIES AND I THOUGHT OBI-WAN WAS THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN POST-MOVIES
AND I LOVED HER IN MANDO OR BOBA FETT OR WHATEVER WHO CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE
LIKE I'M CRYING AND I SOBBED WHEN HAYDEN CAME BACK TO CELEBRATION
I WAS 11 WHEN ROCKS CAME OUT AND I'M TURNING 30 THIS MONTH IT'S ALMOST BEEN TWO DECADES OF UNWAVERING OBSESSION. A LITTLE WAVERING BECAUSE I DO PHASES BUT.
I'VE BEEN READING FANFICTION SINCE 2005 WHEN IT WAS ALL ON THE FORCE.NET BEFORE FANS FICTION.NET AND WAY BEFORE AO3. LIKE WHEN WE WERE DOING LUKE AND MARA JADE FICS. TIMOTHY ZAHN BOOKS. IT'S NOT CONSIDERED LEGACY AND WE'RE ALL PISSED ABOUT IT. THAT WAS THE SHIP OF ALL SHIPS.
BUT NO ONE CAN BEAT MATTHEW STOVER'S REVENGE OF THIS IF NOVELIZATION YOU CAN TRY AND YOU CAN PRETEND.
MY ADHD HATES BOOKS AND CAN'T EVEN DEAL WITH THEM EXCEPT FOR THAT ONE.
"I DON'T THINK SHE'S AN UNWAVERING ANAKIN SKYWALKER APOLOGIST" BITCH I WENT TO ART SCHOOL WHICH MEANS I'M NEURODIVERGENT AND KIND OF DON'T KNOW HOW TO ORGANIZE A PAPER BUT I DID WRITE 10 PAGES OF REDUNDANT WHATEVER ABOUT HOW ANAKIN'S DARK SIDE TURN WASN'T HIS FAULT AT ALL. I WAS LIKE I WAS PALPATINE'S FAULT. DEFAULT WAS ACHIEVED PALPATINE WHO WAS PLOTTING FOR ANAKIN IS DOING TO THE DARK SIDE WHICH WAS NOT HIS FAULT IT WASN'T HIS FAULT I PROMISE IT WASN'T HIS FAULT.

attention animorphs fans!! it's your fave alien, an andalite! he is wired and partially posable and stands freely on his legs! this one is made with recycled wool and a little embroidery floss. originally I was going to follow a crochet pattern, but the recipient wanted a smaller finished object, so I followed basic shape language but knit everything freehand.

I think the funniest dynamic for arranged-marriage royalty would be a queen who came here 100% prepared to murder her future husband and rule as a widow queen in her own right, only to discover that the king is autistic as hell and responds to her wish to rule with "oh thank god please do, I don't want to be bothered by these people. I can just tell them to go bother you instead, if you really want that. I've got beetles I wanted to study."

CL X Digimon Crossover Fic?
Hello everyone!
I'm writing a crossover fan fiction. This crossover is of two series; Code Lyoko and Digimon (mainly Adventure/02). I love both series, therefore it was inevitable I would think of a crossover. Yeah, I know crossovers has been done before, however I'm thinking of taking a crack at it myself.
The problem is... I don’t where to begin! I’ll give it a shot. My idea involves Catherine finding out why her day keeps repeating itself. FYI, Catherine is the name of a chosen child/digidestined from France.

Ryo: I can't sleep, Kento. I keep thinking how my feet smell if they don't have a nose?
Ryo: Kento, if carrots are good for your eyes can they dial a phone?
Ryo: Faster, White Blaze, faster!
Ryo: Only Wildfire knows.

Hi! I've read almost all your SW posts and I'm curious why you still engage with anti Anakins and/or Kenobists as you call them? I've read some of their posts. Even the dialogue in the adoption post. And I found myself losing braincells from the lack of reading comprehension and empathy. I'm not a SW fan, just an Anakin and Luke fan, and it still hurts. How do you do it?
I’ve been in the OT and PT SW fandom for the past nine months now, and while I was initially more willing to jump on their posts to give my opinion, even stooping myself to their level on occasion when they defended the Jedi on issues of their treatment with Anakin and their recruits that were downright offensive, it’s not something I’m entirely proud of, and I have recently been trying my hardest to avoid the Kenobists, Republic apologists, and Jedi apologists.
Yeah, they were victims, but many of them also were and/or became perpetrators of horrendous systematic abuse, crime, and oppression “for the greater good,” too. So was Anakin, but the only reason why he gets called out on it by most of the fandom, even when he’s not at fault, he’s not the only one at fault, or he shouldn’t be held at fault at all, while the Jedi and Republic of their time don’t, is because they know he becomes their enemy Darth Vader. If he hadn’t become Darth Vader, his only enemies were the ones who Obi-Wan, Yoda, the Republic, and the Council approved of, and/or he only ever victimized people and species outside of the “greater good” of the Jedi Order and Republic, neither they nor the Jedi apologists and Kenobists would care. In fact, they’d probably totally woobify Anakin by pretending he never did anything wrong and was this perfect hero all along, in spite of being deeply screwed up, much like they do with Kenobi and the Order itself.
Anyway, the reason why I broke my own blog rule and ranted at that Kenobist canichangemyblogname and thatbitchformerlynamedkenobi who invaded @wingletblackbird’s post about the valid concern of the consent issues in Luke and Leia’s adoption is because they were being assholes who were picking a fight on her post by insulting both her and those of us who were agreeing with her perspective. At first, I thought canichangemyblogname was at least trying to debate in honest good faith by bringing up a point that Naboo was Palpatine’s home planet, but then when I tagged her in my response to her response on the OP’s post, she went into a very condescending, long, and rude lecture to attack both the OP, me, and every one of us who agreed with her by saying that we were “edgy” fans to pick up on problematic implications in Bail Organa’s “adoption” of Leia, rather than just blindly buying that this was a completely legal “closed adoption,” in spite of not seeing any evidence to suggest that in either canon or Legends. Then, she went on to insinuate that those of us who would have wanted to have seen evidence to buy that Leia and Luke’s “adoption” was legal, lacked intelligence and basic reading comprehension skills.
However, I’m an English major, and one of the most important elements we learn that is essential to good writing is to show don’t tell. It’s especially true in creative writing/storytelling. Thus, canichangemyblogname is wrong. The audience or reader wanting to have evidence shown to them in a narrative or essay in order to believe something to be true or false about a character or message that the writer is trying to convey, for better or worse, is not “a cancer on media” or bad writing. It’s good writing that needs to be done more.
She also said she thought it was ridiculous we were so against the idea of Obi-Wan Kenobi being an “Asian-coded” or “African coded” white male character, even though he looked down upon other species and cultures he considered “weak” and “pathetic” outside of the Jedi Order much of the time in canon.
Before I blocked her, that Kenobist did actually respond to my rant against her on her own blog by gaslighting me through saying that I “misinterpreted her completely and she never meant to offend.” However, she very clearly did intend to offend me and all of us who supported wingletblackbird. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have invaded the OP’s post, or gone into an insulting lecture against me when I tried to civilly point out that I saw where she was coming from about the twins potentially being in danger from Palpatine on Naboo, but I still saw legal/consent issues in Leia’s “adoption” by Bail Organa because nothing in canon or Legends had proven me it was a legit closed adoption.
I thought about responding to her apololie, but I was really just exhausted with canichangemyblogname, all of the hardcore Jedi apologists, Bail Organa apologists, and kenobists mud slinging on @wingletblackbird’s post that made a valid point about the consent issues in Luke and Leia’s adoption.
Every argument with them comes down to them being narrow-minded who insinuate that you’re stupid, insult you, inaccurately and irrelevantly virtue signal with comments like “racist,” “Holocaust denier,” “abuse apologist,” “DV apologist,” “anti adoption,” “child hater,” “afab who just wants to fuck Anakin,” ableist comments, slurs, and so on.
The most galling thing about a lot of the Kenobists and Jedi apologists, such as canichangemyblogname and all of those other ones on that post, though, is that, much like their faves, they can never admit that they are wrong. When confronted by those of us who try to call them out on their shit, they always play the victim by gaslighting us through saying that they weren’t trying to offend us, that we’re overreacting, or that they didn’t mean it that way.
Don’t fall for it when you call them out on being an asshole, and then believe it when they give you some bs about how they “didn’t mean it.” They clearly did. People like those Jedi apologists and Kenobists deserve being insulted and blocked. At least the people on our side are honest about it if we do insult them. Just like their faves, the JAs and Kenobists constantly ignore blatant canon that does not suit their preferred headcanons, deflect, and gaslight to play the victim.

-jokes aside, oh my god, I mean I'm glad she hasn't just been killed off completely because it could have been worse but yikes
-so sick seeing the whole group working together to infiltrate, reminds me of the earlier seasons

-oh no eugene is fucked
-oh he's not fucked, GO EUGENE!
-i love u jerry please dont die but also i feel like hes gonna because he just said the cursed words "see you on the other side"
-ahh yes the usual killing of all the redshirts while all the mains somehow dont get shot
-and now mercer being arrested? oh this is all going to shit isn't it

-also just thought how terrifying it must be for connie who literally can't hear any of this???
-OKAY GIRLIES THIS IS WILD PAMELA WHAT THE FUCK??? Judith literally shoved maggie out of the way to save her?? Stop it rewind right now
-but love how everyone went absolutely psychotic trying to shoot Pamela after she did that, it's what she deserves
-negans reaction to the variant walker just about sums it up
-love luke running up with a smile but like sorry bro we don't have time for smiles and reunions right now
Okay holy shit this whole post was a mess but
-judith shot? everyone desperate to kill Pamela? some guy accidentally opened the gates and let the walkers in? the walkers climbing the walls? Everyone penned in surrounded by the massive horde? Mercers been arrested? Aaron, Lydia, Jerry and elijah all still out there somewhere? We still don't know wtf happened to the oceanside people? now this is the kind of absolute chaos I want for the finale! Also I'm so glad amc apparently aren't releasing the finale early because for once in my life I can avoid being spoiled a whole week early

Okay SO @rowlev
I went on spring break and have been adding to/editing this post daily. I did cut back on a few things but I can gladly go more in-depth about things or keep going!! You should be afraid :>
HIS PAST/FAMILY/NON-CAMP JUPITER STUFF
- Octavian grew up rich. I hc that his family was one of the founding families of New Rome, and outside the Mist has major influence in either Hollywood or California's theatre scene.
- His mother is British, daughter of Apollon, and received the blessing of the Tragedy Muse Melpomene. That's why his story ends tragically.
- His family name is either Augustus or Traianus. No clue why I settled on Traianus, but "Octavian Traianus" has been my hc for his name for YEARS
- See this post that I added to about the presentation of his gift!
- He grew up very isolated from the world before going to Camp Jupiter, mostly in his own room honestly
- He had an alt older brother named Ahkyles (pronounced Achilles), who introduced him to bands like Nirvana, MCR, etc. As a result when he isn't in Camp Jupiter attire he dresses very grunge. His parents hate this.
- His parents pushed him to perfection growing up. Anything that wasn't 100% perfect was a failure.
- He was definitely neglected (unless his gift was involved), causing him to make himself more dramatic to try and get his parents attention.
- He went to one of those fancy private college prep academies on a pre-med track. He wanted to study veterinary science at an East Coast school someday
- Vegetarian by choice. He refuses to eat anything he could've read a prophecy from. Jason once told him he can't read from fish or shellfish though, so he does love shrimp.
- He and Jason were best friends before Hera took Jason's memories. They were at camp for a long time together after all
- He's one of the few men Reyna trusts because of that friendship with Jason.
CHARACTER DEPTH STUFF
Rick wrote Octavian very one sided, very much "you're supposed to hate him". And to a normal reader, yeah, we are. HOWEVER.
My interpretation of Octavian comes from the fact that we can see his descent, if we know the signs of what we're looking for. He's barely 18, and to my eyes is experiencing the culminative psychotic break of a boy who should've been given help loooooooong before this point. He experiences delusions canonically (see his entire arc. They're just not called that). I also like to think he experiences auditory hallucinations, mostly of whispers or pained animal cries.
Octavian's canon arc can be put into perspective of "this is a mentally ill teenager who needs help just like the rest of them." Canonically he's been at camp since age 11, readers forget he was ALSO raised into the life of a soldier. I speak from a bit of personal experience having grown up doing jrotc since age 12, that can do numbers to someone's mental health.
He also has a TON of pressure on him. We forget that the position of Augur is a leadership position, and that New Rome puts a LOT of faith on their Augur to read the right prophecies and guide them to victory. Add that to the idea that he was raised in a perfectionist household, and you have a boy who's been forced to an unattainable standard for almost half his life. He's also Centurion of the First Cohort, expected to be the leader for the camp's best, on top of his role as Augur. Pressure breaks people, and I'm convinced that's what happened to him.
TL;DR Octavian was experiencing a psychotic break as a result of way too much leadership and perfectionist pressure on an 18 year old
MISCELLANEOUS
I think he's a really good vision of a few concepts. A, that Camp Jupiter isn't the perfect safe haven the Greeks originally thought it was. B, you can be raised into a rich family and still be traumatized. C, sometimes the kid with weird behavior just needs help
There's a lot of parallels between him and Luke, and I need Luke apologists to stop being Octavian haters.
He's an all-around really interesting character to think about once you set aside how canon portrays him, I'll always be a little mad we didn't get to see more of him.
Hope this helps!!! ♡♡♡
I noticed you’re an Octavian fan and I’d like to source some headcanons for a Jason fanfic I’m writing. Give me the full rant, the things you like about him, elements of depth you think people miss, theories about his time before HOO, etc
OHHH OKAY I CAN DO THIS GIVE ME A COUPLE HOURS TO COMPILE EVERYTHING IN ONE REBLOG

I am currently at the end of chapter 3 of The Titan's Curse and oh man, do I have some thoughts. So first things first. I do not like Artemis. Like, at all. She's currently inhabiting spot 2 on my "I hope Luke wins because of you guys" RIGHT after Ares himself. I REALLY don't like the whole "anti-boy" thing she and her Hunters have going on. Like, okay- I get it to some degree. Chasity and maidenhood is like- her whole thing. But honestly, at this point, it feels almost fanatic. I'm a girl myself, and it makes me genuinely uncomfortable how they act and what they say. It also weirds me out how.... pushy they are to Bianca ? Especially how they seem to disregard Nico in all of this. It was stated that Bianca and Nico are their only remaining relatives. Percy brings up a very valid point in the fact that Nico cannot become a Hunter. Bianca would leave her only brother behind, her brother whose only family she is. And in response Artemis and Zoe just- blow that whole concern off ???????? Saying that they would become Bianca's new family. It could have worked better had this decision only attempted Bianca- BUT IT DOESN'T. What about Nico ? Who would become Nico's new family !? Well APPARENTLY Artemis and her Hunters COULDN'T CARE LESS because he was born with the wrong gender. Sorry kiddo though luck ig 🤷‍♀️ And then that nasty comment when they talk about Nico going to camp with "that's all boys are good for" The fuck Artemis????? I know DAMN WELL ur ass didn't just insult the ONE relatively safe place for demigods where those kids are trained up to do the shit YOU AND YOUR FAMILY are too lazy to do !? Like I have my problems with Camp, not gonna lie. I still think it's still unsafe (even if it's better compared to- well, everywhere else) and their teaching methods are a bit questionable (how has no one thought of organizing some damn therapy for these kids !?) BUT ALSO !?!?!?!? Bianca who JUST said she was still thinking about joining the hunters only to then immediately make up her mind and join ? Naw I'm calling foul play. At this point I'm not putting ANYTHING past ANY god. I would fully trust Artemis to manipulate Bianca's mind or something. I swear to god with every chapter I read I become more and more of a Luke apologist. He went off the deep end for a good freaking reason and he has every right to personally decapitate every god to ever walk the earth. But also, ANNABETH BABY ARE YOU OKAY !? ARE YOU GOOD GIRL ??? WHERE'D YOU GO !? God I am PRAYING it ain't Tartarus or anything- atleast Artemis said she'd search for her so I suppose Mrs. "Human rights for men ? Who needs that !" isn't TOTALLY useless beyond ending my nerves. Poor Nico by the way, he seems like such a nice kid ! A total nerd and drok which honestly ? Stan. As someone who's a nerd myself (although I'm more in the Anime and history department (weird combo ik)) I can stan him. But also MY POOR BABY. That child basically lost his sister to something I'm not yet convinced isn't some weird cult RIGHT AFTER being attacked by a literal MONSTER.
That must hurt. As for Thalia.... yeah not sure about her. She seems to have some bad blood with the hunters of Artemis and that Zoë girl which makes her immediately more likable to me. But also I was sort of thrown into a loop with how suddenly the book started into the story, I would have liked a bit of a slower start with more build-up to get to know her better.
She seems to have a pretty confrontational personality , which is the main thing that makes me a bit unsure about her. But other than that she sems pretty cool so far ! Hope to see more. One thing however made me worry a bit.... that mist thing. Where Thalia was able to manipulate the mist, and upon Percy's questioning asking if "Chiron didn't show you that yet". How it's treated to be nothing special....... listen if I wasn't a bit iffy about the whole system of the Camp I am now. Why didn't Chiron show Percy that ? It doesn't look to be some special ability reserved for children of Zeus. Infact, why didn't Chiron show that EVERY demigod !? I am hoping to god that an explanation for that's gonna come up later to explain this. Otherwise I'll just have to assume that Chiron is refusing to teach those kids a valuable and also kinda important skill just because.
(Also on an off note, y'all remember that one "Who's Jason Theory" I had a while back where I concluded he's either from Roman North Korea or a Rome fanboy ? Yeah I got it confirmed from a friend a while back that he's from Roman North Korea. Holy fuck, so apperantly The Democratic Demigod's Republic of Rome exists canonically. And apparently they are the East Germany to Camp Halfblood's West Germany. Yikes. Don't know much more tho than it existing and apperantly being well, Roman North Korea. So please no spoilers there ^^)
(Please mark any spoilers in your replies/reblogs so I can avoid them, thank you )

not to be a gaston apologist (i am but that's not the point) but when ppl call gafou abusive im always very.....nazare.gif bc. hm
first of all we have the fact most if not all of them ship ad/lle which ill get into later
and also there's the fact they're calling something that happened once in the movie abusive
what we know abt Gaston is tht he became captain of an army at 17 and is traumatized but hides it behind his ego so let's just. jot it down the guy obviously has ptsd and I think luke hinted at aspd but that could be projecting
now I'm not saying his trauma excuses his actions it doesn't but it does justify them
he became comfortable with violence at a young age and im 99% sure in the novelization there's written evidence of how it affected him ("This was what he lived for—chaos and destruction, mindless violence. The Beast wasn’t just a scary monster to him; he was an enemy, and this was battle" this is openly evidence of ptsd) so like. it's explained why he acts the way he does
that's from the final act also so we can easily say that everything that happened there was a product of ptsd
was it shitty for him to leave lefou behind? ofc it was! it was definitely shitty! but it wasn't abusive! it happened once!
was it shitty for him to manipulate lefou like that? yes! yes it was it was terrible! but it wasn't abusive! it happened once!
was it shitty to threaten lefou like he did? yeah! but again! it happened once and he was having a ptsd episode so obviously he wasn't 100% himself
now abt prince adam or the beast or whatever u wanna call him
ppl keep comparing them abt how gaston is abusive bc he didn't redeem himself like beast did and shit like that when. 1. his whole thing was to redeem himself or he'd be a monster for eternity (ik that's not why he redeemed himself, ik he loves belle), 2. Gaston Literally Died Before He Could Have The Chance To Redeem Himself
og gaston was abusive, og gaston was a misogynist piece of shit that was unredeemable
remake gaston rly isn't?? he's written as human like. he's written like he has flaws but those flaws aren't his entire character (unlike og) and he is genuinely good towards lefou in the first act! but then the writer was like "fuck! gotta make him bad almost forgot about that" and so that whole mess happened and I 100% believe it was an episode
basically! gafou isn't abusive bc he doesn't constantly hurt lefou, it happens once maybe two/three times in the movie and he has no chance to apologize and redeem himself bc he dies!

I'm a Christian socialist as well (and left leaning in most of my political views) but I have to deal with some pro-capitalism right leaning people in my life who are like "socialism is bad cuz God doesn't want people to be forced to give to the poor and God loves capitalism" so I was wondering how you knew exegetically why socialism makes more sense to you as a Christian? All I can think of is that capitalism as a system rewards greed and impoverishes people but it's not scripture-based
Yeah, I had to deal with that sort of “God loves money” perspective for the last couple months. Honestly, I don’t think it’s a position that has any sort of coherence with Scripture for the most part. I think the best that apologists for capitalism can actually muster is go the route that many Christian thinkers have, which is to be mildly critical of the current social arrangement but suggest that it is not God’s will [which is a concept I outright reject in the first place] or a part of Christian practice to try to change anything, and to merely wait for the eternal kingdom rather than fret about the temporal one. There is textual support for that position, even if I think the textual support for my position far outweighs it.
So the starting point for my position, based on Exodus, the prophetic tradition, a subversive reading of the book of Job, the sermons and actions of Christ himself, and most of the Pauline corpus as well as the Epistle of James, is that the God of the Abrahamic traditions is a God of the Oppressed - which I think is clear from the mere fact of the incarnation of Jesus as a Jew in an occupied territory, who is made to suffer in a brutal way when he threatens the domination system.
Lots of smarter people than I have explored this, including James Cone (from an African-American perspective), Marcella Althaus-Reid (from a Latinx and qu**r feminist perspective), Hamid Dabashi (from a Muslim perspective rather than a Christian one), Erich Fromm (from a Jewish and explicitly Marxist POV), and Gustavo Gutierrez, who is generally considered the “founder” of the liberation theology tradition.
To take it further, I’m a student of history as well as a historical materialist, so my approach to exegesis is to ask what were the material circumstances of Roman-occupied Palestine at the beginning of the first century, and how would Jesus and his predecessors/descendants be understood at the time? And to keep it brief without getting too deep into the details, the early faith is deeply hostile to empire and the militarist Roman state, extremely critical of the materialism (in the non-Marxist sense) that is a product of the social arrangement of the time, highly attractive to women and slaves (for somewhat problematic reasons - the idea of a future or eternal deliverance from bondage rather than a temporal salvation) and a troubling political threat to the Roman state structure by undermining the premises of its authority.
I don’t have my notes with me atm to provide detailed quotes and deeper analysis, but even without a deep dive into the historiography: “The Sheep and the Goats” sermon, the two most important commandments according to Jesus (love God and love your neighbor), the Beatitudes (particularly Luke’s telling), “nobody can serve two masters,” the bringing of the sword rather than peace, the turning of the tables in the temple (esp. in John), the repeated return to the idea of equality before God throughout the New Testament, the exorcism of “Legion,” the Epistle of James, the anti-Roman content of Revelations.
There’s lots more historical and textual examples of why I think this is the most reasonable position, but this is already getting fairly long. I would say that for every textual example that promotes Christian passivity or apolitical perspective, there are far more calling us to build a better social order, and based on the commandment of “loving one’s neighbor,” I know where I stand.

Personally I always thought he was asking annabeth if she loved him in more of a brother way since he was dying and probably didn’t have time to think, yk? I don’t think he ever had romantic feelings for her since that would make no sense at all.
