The Immortal of Changming Mountain. I love Mr irritable hot grandpa from Word of Honor and I'm very happy that he gets his own character celebration week! He deserves it.
[Image description:
A diagonally split posca marker illustration, depicting Ye Baiyi from Word of Honor. In the first section he is depicted in blues, greys and whites with black hair, making his way morosely through the snow. The Changqing sword is on his back and he is completely alone. In the second section, he is sitting in a bustling vibrant marketplace, eating noodles. He dressed in more elaborate robes and has white hair now. He is smiling to himself, knowing that the food he is enjoying is bringing him closer to death and his departed loved ones.]

#yebaiweek DAY 1: SWEET/FAMILY
We know little about Ye Baiyi's mountain family, but even less about the rest of his life. What about his blood-related family? Their relationship, their status in society? Could that have any imprint on his personality or the people he chose? (feel free to reblog-reply, reply or answer in tags ♥) (YBY week main post: https://tbgkaru-woh.tumblr.com/post/701466501228724224/ao3 ) (YBY week twitter account: https://twitter.com/YeBaiWeek ) (YBY week AO3 collection: https://archiveofourown.org/collections/ye_baiyi_week_2022)

even MOAR yby doodles~
am probably too late for yebaiweek but.......actually every week should be yebaiweek. sorry i dont make the rules.
just a couple silly lil doodles of ye baiyi and rong changqing growing up together. we got a nose boop. we got cloud watching. we got running away from the consequences of their actions. and mourning taishifu when he passes away ;A;
in my head canon, ye baiyi is heart-broken, bc taishifu was the first person to ever care for him. after he's gone, yby is completely devoted to rcq, whom he addresses exclusively as 'changqing-ah', bc that's what taishifu called him. and yby does whatever taishifu does. even after taishifu is gone.
(that's why he let zhou zishu and wen kexing go. bc it's what rong changqing would have done. bc it's what taishifu would have done. if they're both gone......then ye baiyi will act in their place. it's what they would have wanted ;A;)

Rong Changqing returns from his work trip; Baiyi welcomes him. The world has come far, but there are still miles to go.
Sorry, I end this a day late because of my Malvochka, who came to me on Saturday. I couldn't possibly write that day.

I haven't seen the new episodes yet. But from what I can gather this show is wish fulfillment and I'm quite excited that from what I've heard so far the plot is going like. The Most ideal way i would have hoped for it to be written

Top Nine TV Shows tag game
Tumblr media
Was invited to do this by @lovesickfolly I'm going to do it with cdramas, bc that's what I'm into lately, but if anyone wants to do this, you can do it with any kind of show.
My top nine cdramas, in no particular order...
Before I begin, I should probably point out that I'm more "plot" over "ship." I like ships, but usually as a means to showing character depth; they're not the thing I tend to focus on the most.
What these nine have in common is:
good plot and writing - not just the plot, but the storytelling
3D characters who are also likeable
hooked my attention - my mind didn't wander while watching, AND I wanted to watch more than one episode in a row
memorable
I'm going to include another indicator, too. If it "got" me good enough to make me make fanart: 🎨lol I mean, I'm SLOW. If I was willing to dedicate days/weeks to make a drawing out of it, that's SOMETHING. lmao
Tumblr media
1 - Word of Honor🎨
Martial arts adventures (+ a steampunk sect), BL.
This was the first cdrama I watched, and I loved it and it still has a special place in my heart. I rewatched along later with @ginsoakedgirl80 and it was as enjoyable to watch the 2nd time as it was the 1st.
Awesome story and characters, beautiful scenery. And it gave me my first two favorite drama actors.😆*cough* My fav characters were, in order: Ye Baiyi and the Scorpion King. My fav actors, the same two, but reversed; I like comedians, OK? XD
Just a word of advice to anyone planning to try this: I don't know why the opening scenes character-dump on you; most of those people aren't even that important. Just learn Prince Jin and Zhou Zishu (a few others will show up later, but you can learn them then), and then start learning names only once Zhou Zishu becomes a homeless drunk man.
Tumblr media
2 - The Taoism Grandmaster (technically, I have a drawing WIP, but it'll probably stay a WIP)
If the Triwizard Tournament from Harry Potter and a Final Fantasy video game had a child in ancient China, you'd get this, complete with items shop before boss battles (the store ox is so cute!).
No but look, this is like my gremlin child. I'm not a fast watcher, but this is the only one which I binged so many episodes in a row, that it made me lose track of time, and before I knew it, it was past 2am on a weeknight and I had work the next day. I may have made it to 4am one of those nights; I don't remember. After it happened twice, I had to set an alarm. Have also watched twice+
Yes, the CG is bad, the costumes were cheap sometimes, and the plants did not pretend to not be plastic, but I love the story. It's well written and has so many details and ways things tie together. And THE CHARACTERS! They're all lovable dorks AND I LOVE THEM!
Tumblr media
3 - The Legendary Life of Queen Lau🎨
Romcom.
AAAAAAAAA!! I love comedy and this was GREAT in that sense! Really had me laughing out loud every episode! This is one to watch more for the funny and ingenious situations than for plot, but it was SO enjoyable, I'd even watch them do slice of life. So cute, so fun, love it love it love it!!🥰 Another one that I rewatch whenever I need something uplifting and cute. Also, one of my two favorite OSTs. So uplifting and danceable!
Alright, those are my top 3. The ones I'm sentimental for. The stuff I squee over. But I have 16 starred on my list as excellent / recommendable, so let's have six more.
Tumblr media
4 - Song of Youth
Case-solving; mini-cases and the one overarching one.
I loved the format of one case per couple of episodes, so it was broken up into smaller chunks. Super interesting and creative - each case was solved in an unconventional way, which was fun and engaging. All the actresses did a fantastic job. The jewelry, props, lighting, etc. were absolutely beautiful.
Tumblr media
5 - The Blood of Youth🎨
Martial arts adventures with a group of friends.
Story: 💯Characters: 💯 Fights: 💯 Visuals: 💯OST: 💯
Xiao Se as the tired babysitter I love him! Wuxin! OMG Wuxin as the sassy fake monk who monologues before every fight and people just let him. I love him! (Wuxin spinoff, please! and I love his theme song!) The whole cast is gorgeous and acted wonderfully, so no sacrificing talent for looks; these people had both in spades. The supporting cast, too. OMG Baily Dongjun and the thunder guy!😍 It had funny moments. Mr. Sikong! The fights were SO creative... how many ways can you design a martial arts fight?? Way more than I thought! No two were similar; it was amazing, the creativity.
As an artist, I really enjoyed the cinematography... the scenery, lighting!! composition, all absolutely gorgeous. Those shots of Xiao Se with soft backlighting? Chef's kiss. And, as a photographer, I know they're not as easy to achieve as it looks. Alright, this one got 2 paragraphs already; need to move on, but watch if you haven't. It's on YouTube.
Tumblr media
6 - Till the End of the Moon
Doomed love fantasy; watch them struggle against themselves and their destiny.
THIS IS SO GOOD!! The story is great, excellent plot and pacing. Characters are 3D and always surprising. Gorgeous costumes (Tantai Jin's especially! And the clam clan makeup!), sets, and special effects. THE SOUNDTRACK IS EMBEDDED IN MY BRAIN IT'S SO GOOD (🎶favs: "Use my Body as a Shield" or whatever it's called, I keep seeing different translated titles for it; "Reborn" instrumental; and "Holding on to a Thought" instrumental).
Tumblr media
7 - The Blue Whisper
Fantasy romance and adventure. Merman. Animal-spirit people. Angst, treason, and undying hope.
Gosh this drama is so beautiful. This, Till the End of the Moon, and Blood of Youth are up there as the top 3 visuals in dramas I've completed (there are others that have stunned me visually, but haven't been able to watch in full). Excellent story, too. It's a tearjerker, but it's SO GOOD!
Tumblr media
8 - My Uncanny Destiny
Romcom. "Would you still love me if I was a worm?"
Lots of fun. Very enjoyable and bingeable.
Tumblr media
9 - Guardian, the one with Bai Yu and Zhu Yi Long
Modern urban superpowers type of thing, which is a genre I like, and the story is so good! By Priest, the same author for the Word of Honor novel. Never a dull moment. Tearjerker warning, but so good. Excellent theme song, too, btw. (I don't have any screencaps that aren't a spoiler, so that's what this is XD)
I ran out of slots, but I'll list the other seven in my Excellent and Recommendable list. Order is just as I watched them:
The Untamed
Legend of Fei
A Female Student Arrives at the Imperial College
Be Reborn (modern, heist/police)
The Romance of Tiger and Rose
A Familiar Stranger (mini-drama; watch the movie version)
Reset (modern, action, investigation)
PS: I've been here one month, and have done two tag games and they both had the number "9" in them; is this a tumblr thing?

Voyeur Beauty
Today's post is a fig set that commemorates some Word of Honor filming shenanigans!
The scene that these two were having fun filming was actually a cut scene from the Siji Manor arc. You'll remember Gong Jun taking a healing herbal bath post-Ye Baiyi encounter.
Here we have the filming set-up for this scene and Zhehan peeking at the goings on through a folding screen. Zhehan is the Voyeur Beauty of this fig set's title!
Let's roll the footage here, shall we:
I love this scene because they're having so much fun! Zhehan is teasing Gong Jun and they're both laughing and having a great time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's a few more stills of Zhehan peeking through the screen (pre-Gong Jun taking off his robe).
There's a fun video of Gong Jun laughing and washing his foot in the water, which is exactly where the fig maker took the inspiration for his fig. Unfortunately, I'm restricted to one video per post, so here's just a very blurry screenshot:
Tumblr media
So cute! He looks up and laughs after this, a big happy laugh, and right there, there's our fig.
I'd be remiss (REMISS, I tell you!) if I didn't use this thinly-veiled excuse opportunity to sidetrack a bit, and add what is one of my all time favorite BTS photographs. This is from the other bathing scene, in Episode 22:
Tumblr media
This "Ultimate Puppy Dog Eyes, Gong Jun Edition" is not a fan edit. This is a poster from the 《 梦华· 入画 》 photo card set:
Tumblr media
But back on track! Back to Siji Manor and our two playful actors.
Tumblr media
The figs arrived with a wooden screen, Wen Kexing's bathtub, and several extras - a small pouch, a bookmark, and a card.
Tumblr media
The opened screen (ignore me trying to figure out how the little wooden stand pieces work!), the bathtub, and the backside of the free bonus items.
Tumblr media
Here's the screen properly assembled, and Gong Jun in his bathtub.
Tumblr media
I decided to stain the wooden screen the same color as my Siji Manor wooden model kit, since I didn't like the plain unfinished color looking different than the set.
Tumblr media
This is Varathane's Colonial Maple wood stain. There's a whole other story about how I laboriously color matched the Chinese stain color for the Siji model for one here in the US, which I won't get into now. It looks very orange here, but trust me, it's the right golden color.
Tumblr media
And here they are, post stain! I had to glue the stand bases to the frame as they were not at all secure, and moved around at the slightest breath of air.
One of the things I noticed with the wooden Siji Manor model, and therefore what I knew was going to happen here, was that all of this soft model wood warps. I live in dry climate, and something about the air here just pulls all the moisture out of the wood. Since I knew it was going to happen, I immediately put it under a heavy block to press flat once I received it, and left it there for several weeks. But, it still warped slightly anyway. You'll see when I spin these figs around for the different angles. I'll probably replace this screen at some point with a toy folding screen, to be more consistent with the BTS footage, but that's for future Lelanthe to figure out!
Tumblr media
Alright, I'm trying something new here - since we have a bit of a scene set up, I put the figs on a turntable and just rotated them around that way. I'm hoping the pics are better quality and more consistent in terms of placement. We'll see how it goes!
Tumblr media
They certainly blushed Gong Jun's chest!
Tumblr media
I love the detail on Zhehan's hair and his beaded leather hair tie.
Tumblr media
It doesn't look like Zhehan should balance all that well with the way he's leaning forward, but the fig is decently stable. He's got to get a good peek and tease in, after all!
Tumblr media
You can see how the screen isn't exactly straight. Nothing to be done, unfortunately!
Tumblr media
Zhehan's expression is so cute! He's such a rascal, as my grandma would say. He would be so much fun to be on a set with.
Tumblr media
You could see how the cloth on the side of the tub was removable. I left it on because I thought it was a nice detail!
Tumblr media
I love Gong Jun laughing in this - he looks so happy in the BTS!
Tumblr media
Ah this is my favorite angle, it's so cute and we get both their faces. I'll have to position Zhehan a little better on my display shelf so I can see more of his face poking through.
Tumblr media
Oops, I see I kind of positioned him sideways in the bath! I'll make sure to center him in the bath when I put him on my shelf.
Tumblr media
You can see how he fits here - there's plenty of room for me to move him around so he's centered with the largest curve of the bath is behind him.
Tumblr media
You can really see the warping on the screen here. Ah, such a bummer.
Tumblr media
Gong Jun's legs are so cute here! He sits well in the tub - he wobbles around a bit if you say, pick him up and move him, but it's not because he's off balance. It's that there's sufficient room for him to move around in the tub so he's not squeezed in there.
Tumblr media
I always love it when the costumed figs have their pants and boots on, when you'll never see this little detail on the shelf. Such a nice touch.
Tumblr media
Such cute box cards! I love the flowery Siji Manor theme.
Tumblr media
The theme is carried over to the boxes as well. What a cute, fun, happy set! I love it.
Material: PVC (figures and bath) and wood (screen)
Fig Count: 401
Scene Count: 28
Rating: Pure joy!

#yebaiweek DAY 4: SALTY / WHITE
Do you think Ye Baiyi always bore this name, or got it in any way? Alternatively, any headcanons regarding the Baiyi sword? Why did Ye Baiyi give it to Qin Huaizhang if Rong Changqing was the one who made it for him? (feel free to reblog-reply, reply or answer in tags ♥)

Note
for the character-centric stories prompts, Ye Baiyi and "What would happen to a houseplant in their care?" ♥
“She’s not going to kill you if they don’t all survive,” Rong Changqing had told Ye Baiyi after Rong-furen had finally stopped with her instructions, repeated instructions, and even more admonitions.
“Not so sure,” Ye Baiyi said, trying to commit to memory what the little yellow orchids needed. They wanted little water, right, but regularly, and they could never be allowed to remain standing in a puddle?
Compared to the orchids, the large pot of silvergrass was simple. The kitchen herbs were even simpler -- give them two ladles of water whenever they started looking a bit wan.
“Don’t think about the damn plants,” Rong Changqing assured him, “the main thing is you keep training Xuan-er and make sure he goes to bed before midnight. And don’t let him tinker in my workshop by himself. At least not after midnight. Please? Baiyi?”
If Changqing looked at him like that, with his beautiful smile and beautiful eyes, what else could Ye Baiyi do but grumble “I’ll try to” ungraciously, rather than smile back and reflect the things that Changqing made him feel. Every. Single. Time.
You’d think he would be used to it by now. For the Heavens’ sake, Xuan-er was already nine; the pain in those feelings should have worn down, become dulled and familiar. Perhaps it was the immortality that Rong Changqing had so unwisely cultivated and then dumped on Ye Baiyi; not only Ye Baiyi’s body, even his feelings were preserved forever unchanging in a block of clear ice.
“Don’t look so crestfallen, Baiyi,” Rong Changqing said. “It’s not even a month; we just have to be at the wedding of my lady’s youngest brother. We’ll hurry back as fast as we can. And Xuan-er can help you. If you’re really scared of what she’ll do to you if her chives have turned into hay, or the forge cats have peed on the basil.”
“I’m not scared,” Ye Baiyi grumbled. “I’m just offended that you wouldn’t even trust me with a fucking potted houseplant. I can feed the forge cats all right, and make sure that Xuan-er eats every day and sets nothing on fire. So why should I kill the damn orchids?”
“The forge cats,” Rong Changqing laughed, “will complain very loudly if you don’t feed them every day. Plants, however, just wilt quietly, and before you realize it, they’re dead.”
“Speak for yourself,” Ye Baiyi said, glaring up at Changqing, “I know what qi feels like, and I won’t let it falter.”
“Course you do,” Rong Changqing said, easily, but Ye Baiyi felt he still didn’t believe him. He made a face.
***
Two lunar months later, the Rongs returned, with a lot of gifts and good food for Xuan-er, and a few books they had thought Ye Baiyi might like, as well as a few bottles of syrup for him to flavor his snow with.
Xuan-er had built a box that would shoot crossbow bolts without the crossbow, steadily feeding them into the mechanism; he proudly presented it to his father, and they took quite a while to take it apart and then improve it so it would shoot even faster.
Baiyi went and had some snow with pomegranate syrup; it wasn’t bad, really. He perched on a rock and looked into the valley where he hadn’t been for so long, except in especially fierce winters, and then only for a little bit.
He didn’t know how he felt about Changqing and Rong-furen being back. Life with Xuan-er had been fun; they had trained every day, there had been no set bedtimes or mealtimes for either of them, and they had just ambled through their days in the snow. Xuan-er’s martial arts had taken leaps and bounds with nobody to interrupt him. He did look a little unkempt now, but really, all those hot baths were overrated, especially for a nine year old.
It was already getting dark when Rong-furen came out to get her husband and son from the workshop; the fire was going, and she had been cooking dinner.
“What have you done to my plants?” she asked, casually, as she passed Ye Baiyi.
“Nothing,” he said, “except what you’d told me. The forge cats were much harder to take care of; the calico brought out her kittens, and we kept running after them. Xuan-er shot at an eagle who tried to grab one. They’re all doing fine.”
“Don’t deflect,” Rong-furen said. “My plants have never been this lush and healthy. You have made cuttings from the orchids, and the roots are coming on fine; the basil is almost a tree now, and the other herbs fairly burst from their window boxes. I have noticed the kittens because they were playing hide-and-seek in the silvergrass and jumping up to catch the fronds. The lotuses in their basin and the peonies in their container are already flowering even though it’s early for them, this far up. You turned out to be an excellent gardener.”
“I just did what you told me,” Ye Baiyi said. “I checked every day, and made sure the forge cats didn’t pee on them. That’s all.”
He may have been feeding the plants a little of his qi, but hey, he was an immortal, he had the stuff to spare.
“Do you want to carry on doing it?” she asked. “I have seen the way you repotted the little blue orchids; there was so much care and attention in the work. You enjoyed it, didn’t you?”
“Nah,” Baiyi said, “they’re your plants. I just didn’t want to be the one who killed them. Changqing -- well, he thought I’d screw up, so I wanted to show him I don’t. I’m no good at this, and the plants don’t really like me. I’m the last person you want as a gardener, really.”
“If you change your mind -- any time,” she shrugged, and went about her errand.
Changqing and Xuan-er emerged from the forge even before she had reached the door; they were holding out the kittens and talking enthusiastically while they walked back towards the house and their dinner.
“Good job, Baiyi,” Changqing said vaguely as he passed Ye Baiyi on his perch; he reached up to clap him on the upper arm, then went inside with his family, plants and Baiyi already forgotten.-

Fresh batch of fic recs
Fics that have caught my attention and made their way into my good reads pile over the last week or so. Some older, some newer. A mix between Guardian and Word of Honor this time. I've put an asterisk next to my favorites from the batch.
Word of Honor
See It In Your Closed Eyes by Alipeeps, k_lynn
“It’s alright,” Zhou Zishu says, “It’s fine. You’ll be fine.”
Wen Kexing gives a shaky little laugh, “The more you say that the less I believe you, Ah Xu.”
“Be quiet and keep your eyes closed,” Zhou Zishu snaps back.
An attack leaves Wen Kexing temporarily without his sight and dependent on Zhou Zishu's care. Neither of them takes easily to vulnerability. They find a way through.
*Mine by incendir
Rec comments: The summaries for this series are fairly sparse. This is an A/B/O universe where the hyper competent and fed up empress Zhou Zishu uses warlord Wen Kexing to kidnap himself out of a bad situation. Wen Kexing does not mind at all.
slithered here from eden by novembersmith
Zhou Zishu reluctantly allows life to infect him again.
proceed reluctantly by fmo
What if Word of Honor, but with a slight flavor of Advance Bravely?
Gu Xiang, the barista, needs a decoy boyfriend to prevent her overprotective big brother from discovering and scaring off her actual real boyfriend. Innocent customer Zhou Zishu doesn't get a chance to opt out of this plan.
And then somehow Wen Kexing ends up sticking around, making sure that Zhou Zishu isn't making moves on his sister . . . which involves more stalking and cooking than you might expect.
*dear heaven by foreverstudent
In a darker world where the Combined Six Cultivation Method fails and the snowy mountains become the burial mounds for his shifu and shishu, Chengling trains his martial arts under Ye Baiyi to be able to do only one thing: go back in time and save his found family.
The Arrangement by kestrelsan
“You didn’t tell me you had a marriage arrangement with the Ghost King of Qingya,” Helian Yi said, when Zhou Zishu arrived at the throne room.
*Nurture by TK_DuVeraun
The only way Zhou Zishu is going to properly reestablish Four Seasons Manor is if he has a child of his own. Conveniently, he has no intention of doing either.
A Good Bargain by Neery
The Window of Heaven captures the Ghost Valley's master. Zhou Zishu is put in charge of interrogating him.
But Wen Kexing has a plan of his own…
*you're the trouble that i always find by sundiscus
“Do you know him?” Jin Wang asks.
The ringing in Zhou Zishu's ears gets louder. “No, Wangye,” he says.
At Zhou Zishu’s voice, the prisoner freezes.
Or: Jin Wang tries another way to get Zhou Zishu back.
It's All That I'm Made Of by etymologyplayground
Zhou Zishu clutched his soup and said nothing. There was something he wanted to say, but he figured he should eat first and maybe that would make him less insane, and maybe then he'd think better of it.
He did not think better of it.
Guardian
*redux by synonemous
Stand-alone alternate takes on how Shen Wei and Zhao Yunlan could have gotten together in the show.
The Mortifying Ordeal of Telling the Truth by BlackwaterVial
Shen Wei loses the ability to lie. It goes about as well as you'd expect
Turn The Page by leonidskies
Shen Wei was Dixingren. Shen Wei had lied.
The SID are called to extract a book that no Haixingren can touch. A few weeks later, definitely-not-Dixingren Shen Wei picks it up unknowingly.
Trapped between memory and the moment by laireshi
There's no first in their relationship.
Catnip and Memories by nightwalker
“Is this the family you had planned for yourself, Xiao Wei?” he’d asked, voice little more than a hushed whisper in the dark. “An eccentric soldier with a candy addiction and a cat that tries his best to eat us out of house and home?”
Soar No Higher by sakana17
Shen Wei trembled a little at the words, expressed so frankly, so openly. His heart was already free, it could soar no higher. He could only bring the taste of those words to his own lips in a long, cherishing kiss.
Set during episode 35, and assumes a passage of time of at least a month during the ancient Haixing scenes.
