nari was born to two yonsei university professors, and anyone who knew her as a young child likely expected her to follow in their footsteps. she was rich with book smarts and well-rounded with piano, sports, and languages. academics never quite came as easily to her as everyone seemed to believe, but the proud gaze of her parents and the gushing of their friends felt too rewarding to ever fully confess the sleepless nights and tears. as she grew older, she became a self-fulfilling prophecy, a girl trapped in a cycle of her own making. she remained top of her class as primary school and middle school came and went, but each year meant more strain for diminishing returns as something that became harder to deliver became easier for everyone else to expect from her. she was a high schooler when she was street-scouted by ydh entertainment off of nothing more than her pretty face and the way she carried herself. the choice to follow through and audition was driven by a curiosity if an inconsequential singing hobby could be anything more, and the decision to dive in headfirst when she received a trainee contract offer in return was led more by a fear of falling short of the future laid out for her than any huge ambition to be an idol. the bottom dropped out from under her as soon as she became a trainee, but there was something refreshing for fighting for her life for something no one thought she would reach. it took her five long years to debut and by that time, her relationship with her parents was rocky and she'd closed more doors than remained open for her, but she'd also fed a love for singing that would have laid dormant otherwise. for better or for worse, debut as a soloist meant she finally had something to show for all of her hard work. she was adored and her music and face became impossible to avoid—things even a flawless academic record likely would have never earned her. over years, she's become one of the most popular singers in the country, but nari's many achievements as a singer have failed to fully mend the fractures created by swerving so far off course at sixteen. adoration, success, and money are nice, but as she nears a decade in the spotlight, it gets harder to swallow being just another doll on ydh entertainment's (and now midas labels') shelf.

i. ✩ an only child born into a traditional korean family. kiyong lives his first few years of life happily with his parents in bucheon until his parents finalized their divorce. ✩ being a child of a divorced household is looked down upon in korea and kiyong experiences that first hand. people treat him differently and judge him. that alone is enough for him to want to prove everyone wrong. ✩ one day he's watching tv with his mother. she tells him that the singer on screen used to be her favorite idol while she was growing up. the sentiment is enough to catch kiyong's curiosity. this is when his obsession with wanting to become an idol starts. if he wants to prove everyone wrong, then he needs to become an idol to show society that, even as the son of divorced parents, he can become a successful and beloved person. ✩ at 12 kiyong auditions for ydh entertainment and passes his audition soon after. he's determined and hardworking, easily becoming one of the higher ranking trainees. ✩ although kiyong gives it his all, his training time keeps growing. at first, he's told it's due to his young age, but eventually other trainees his age start to debut. it hits his confidence quite hard, making him question everything, but kiyong is too stubborn and has spent too much time training, so he keeps going. ✩ his biggest wish is to debut in a boy group, he likes the idea of having something like siblings. ydh entertainment considers him for the lineup of sodapop but ends up not including him in the end as he doesn't really fit the vision they have for the group. ✩ in a final attempt to accomplish his goal, kiyong joins a survival show, hoping to make it to the final lineup, and he's pretty close to debuting, but ultimately gets eliminated after reaching one of the top ten ranks. ✩ however, right after, ydh entertainment offers him a soloist contract, and he takes the chance as it's his last option to finally debut. he's not entirely satisfied, but at least he has reached his goal. ✩ in 2022 kiyong makes his debut as kio.

ii. ✩ kiyong loves being an idol. he likes the attention he gets and the fact that people look up to him. to him, it feels like he's making a difference in people's lives, including his own. ✩ he's always been approachable and makes sure to treat everyone with kindness. he's not shy, but he does have his quiet moments. he's more of an introvert than an extrovert, though if someone approaches him, he will make the effort to talk to them. ✩ his focus is mainly on producing and writing music. he's helped create some great songs for other groups and is planning on growing his credits in the future. he has also helped create choreographies for others. although he's more of a singer than a dancer, but he still finds it enjoyable, and it helps him improve his own skills too. ✩ kiyong is never one to complain, but he's not very satisfied with how little ydh entertainment is promoting him. he wishes for more and wants to be promoted better, but he's also too kind to confront them directly. ✩ getting into scandals is very unlike kiyong. he stays out of trouble and does what his company tells him to. he makes sure to treat everyone with kindness and keeps his distance from the dating life because being a singer is his only purpose in life, and he doesn't want to risk ruining what he worked so hard on building.

iii. open plots ✩ i would like for kiyong to have a close friend or two. maybe they cloud have met as trainees and kept the friendship alive till now. kiyong hasn't changed much from his old self, he's always been true to himself and is a very honest individual. he treats his friends like family and would never hesitate to lend a helping hand. ✩ likewise, i would love to explore a more negative connection too. kiyong doesn't hate people, but he certainly can dislike how a person behaves, and it would be interesting to see how he would handle a situation with another idol who he clearly doesn't get along with. ✩ as for his love life, kiyong definitely had none up until now. he was far too fixated on debuting while he was a trainee, so he wouldn't have dated. however, he could have had a crush on someone, or maybe they liked each other, but when his crush asked him out, he rejected them and their dynamic would have changed after. this can be taken up by f&m muses. ✩ maybe someone who kiyong likes to practice with or write/produce new songs with. it would be fun to have a thread where they are working on an unreleased song and see their thought process throughout it. ✩ kiyong is always trying to learn new instruments, maybe this person is teaching him how to play a new one. ✩ perhaps someone who invites kiyong to a party, but doesn't tell him what kind, so kiyong shows up and is shocked by the sight. this would work well with a muse who drinks or smokes a lot. kiyong would react worried and try to get this person to leave with him. i would like for this plot to be a bit deeper, at least emotionally. i'm imagining a more angsty vibe. ✩ someone who believes kiyong is being fake friendly. they try to put him into situations to make him show his true self... only that kiyong is already being himself. this keeps going for a while until either the person realizes they were wrong all along or kiyong gets very emotional. ✩ a person who's currently crushing on kiyong, but he's unaware and perceives them as a good friend and nothing more. this can be another rejection scenario or a yearning forever connection. please keep in mind that as of right now, kiyong wouldn't reciprocate anything romantic, even if he develops feelings too. ✩ this person simply has the knack for dragging kiyong into trouble. maybe someone who is rather clumsy and does these things accidentally and knowing that kiyong is friendly and helpful, they could ask him to fix these situations for them.

cws for anxiety/panic attacks and insomnia

alrighty! so geon is again the oldest son, however, his family was very loving and supportive. his parents weren't exactly prepared for geon's birth but they loved him and each other all the same and they had their parents' help so basically geon grew up less than well off but it was okay because he was surrounded by a huge family who absolutely adored him.

unfortunately when he was still young his father got a job offer to work as a professor in a university in seoul so the family picked up and moved from busan to seoul and this move put considerable distance between geon and his extended family but it was okay because they still tried to visit seoul as often as they could.

not long after the move geon became a big brother. his little sister, byeol, was the apple of his eye almost immediately. geon treated her like she was a princess, and even to this day still considers himself quite close to her.

geon had always been interested in singing and the guitar and one day that paid off when he was given a talent scout's business card. he joined the label pretty quickly even though his parents were somewhat hesitant about letting geon do so. unfortunately this first trainee experience went absolutely no where, the label didn't seem to know what to do with geon and geon was getting impatient so after 4 1/2 years he decided call it and just do his enlistment and then sit for college entrance exams

he did exactly one of those things. when he came back he found that he couldn't just leave things as they were and decided to give his dream of being an idol one last college try before he went to actual college. and what do you know that's when he was picked up for ydh entertainment and after that it was an extremely quick path to debuting as a soloist.

he found pretty immediate success there, older women in particular really fell in love with him which is how he earned the title of "nation's son-in-law". fans probably joke about geon and his ahjumma army. geon, however, also didn't take very long to start feeling incredibly pressured by his squeaky clean image.

he started developing symptoms of anxiety and insomnia around this stage too which only made his paranoia of stepping out of line grow stronger. geon basically felt like he was forced to be the best version of himself at all points in time otherwise he was going to ruin everything he'd built up and that was definitely a heavy burden to carry. he's gotten to the point where he worked himself into panic attacks several times now.

as for his personality there's not actually a huge difference between who geon is as an idol and who he is as a person. he's super charming and charismatic and generally very friendly and warm. he is a little bit sharper with his words when there aren't cameras watching, he's not afraid to speak his mind but he's not exactly mean about it. in short he's the sort of person who will tell you how it is without bias but he won't be needlessly mean about it.

that's not to say that he's perfect. his anxiety is currently untreated as is his insomnia and they tend to feed into each other. there are times when geon is really not pleasant to be around and somewhat snappish and rude, although he does his best to apologize when he treats his friends and family badly it still does happen because he's not always the best at telling when he's stuck in a loop with his anxiety

maybe someone who geon has taken on a mentor-like relationship with? he's full of knowledge about singing as well as the guitar so anyone who wants to know more about either is more than welcome to pick his brain on the subject.

tw for brief mentions of body image, disordered eating & a toxic mother-daughter relationship.

noh saetbyeol was born may 30, 1998 to an, uh… unwell single mother. her mom is a raging narcissist who had gone through a number of failed relationships/engagements/entanglements and ultimately decided that all she really needed was a child who would love her unconditionally. never told the father that she was pregnant, and saetbyeol never attempted to find him as she grew older.

early in life, it was pretty much saetbyeol and her mom against the world. there were occasional visits from other family members (saetbyeol’s parents and sister mostly), but again—her mom was a raging narcissist, and those relationships felt the affects of it as well so they didn’t come around much. for a while, she had her mom on a pedestal.

her mom had always kind of wanted to be an entertainer, but never had the confidence to actually pursue it considering she isn’t/never was conventionally pretty. but her daughter was! never put a ton of pressure on saetbyeol to do well academically (which was nice) but did push her to take dance and vocal lessons and to take them seriously (which was less nice). umm… eventually saetbyeol learned to like it! it made mom happy, so it made her happy—however, the older she got & the better she got at performing, the more her mom would criticize her body/looks. was always trying to “help her” look better through providing smaller meal portions and giving unsolicited advice. naturally, their relationship had started to deteriorate.

attended numerous auditions starting at age 15, never got signed. still, she was working with professionals to continue to strengthen her singing & dancing skills and eventually she was good enough to get a spot on some fucking competition show as an “independent trainee”. her mom encouraged her *not* to do it and instead to continue looking for a company that would take her right away, but she decided to go through with it anyway. was one of the most popular picks amidst people voting at home, but was less popular with the actual panelists/judges on the show and ultimately didn’t make the cut but was immediately picked up by ydh. trained for eight months before she debuted.

had a burst of popularity in the first ~year of her career, went viral a couple times & picked up a majority of the fanbase that she still has today. however, has struggled to reach *that* level of success since—has yet to have another song go viral, is pretty well-recognized and most people who hear her name know who she *is* but she’s not really bringing in new fans like she used to. present-day, she’s trying to figure out what her next move should be to get a little more attention/popularity. also attempting to move away from the aegyo-centric image and concept she’s (mostly) stuck to so far while needing to find some other point of appeal.

publicly, saetbyeol is incredibly upbeat. most of her songs speak of bravery, hope, self-love & confidence, and her personality mirrors it well. she comes off as this happy, sweet girl who doesn’t doubt herself for a second—she’s always smiling, she always has something nice to say, and she’ll do any aegyo or fanservice that’s asked of her in a second. seems incredibly genuine and is generally seen as a role model of sorts for young women & girls.

but most people who know saetbyeol personally probably know her as… well, a raging bitch. because she is a raging bitch. used to be, anyway—very recently, she became self-aware and realized she needs to treat people better. before that, she was a nightmare. at best, she was passive-aggressive and high maintenance; at worst, she was confrontational and condescending.

admittedly, she has a *lot* to unlearn and it’s going to take some time. still has an attitude ad tends to treat people a little unfairly, but has gotten really into journaling as a means to understand herself and her feelings more deeply. it’s helped calm her down a little bit. has looked into therapy but isn’t quite ready to take that big of a leap yet.

is and always has been pretty lonely. nowadays, she’s putting a lot of effort into meeting new people and making genuine friends. can seem a bit overzealous, like she’s trying too hard to fit in or pay attention or even *be interested* in other people. again, baby steps… but she’s trying!!! and maybe it’ll work!!!

iii.

open to any & all plots, but here are some thoughts to get the ball rolling:

a younger/newer idol who used to look up to her, but was quickly disillusioned when they met her. now that she’s on this self-improvement kick, she feels like they deserve an apology.

a mean girl friend… someone she’s spent countless nights shit-talking others with. of course, that wasn’t all that there was to the friendship, but… well, it was a lot of it. and saetbyeol doesn’t really want to be that way anymore, so she’s started slowly breaking away from her—is there any resistance? does she think that saetbyeol thinks she’s above her now?

a friend who was always genuinely too good for saetbyeol but stuck around through it all anyway. maybe they saw that she needed someone who actually meant well in her corner or maybe their low self-esteem wouldn’t let them break away from her; whatever the case, she’s hurt their feelings a hundred times and doesn’t feel like she could ever truly make up for it. they swear that it’s okay and they forgive her. do they mean it?

an ex whom saetbyeol treated as an accessory. she swears that she truly loved them, but they never felt it—she was always focused on her phone when they were together & diminished their feelings any time they tried to talk about being hurt. recently, she’s been trying to come back into their life & they’re suspicious of her intentions.

new friends who feel a little perplexed by saetbyeol. on one hand, she is nice—on the other, she kind of seems like she doesn’t really give a fuck when they’re talking. maybe it’s all in their head?

idol-actresses or actors whom she’s met at auditions / someone she is/was interested in who had heard of what a bitch she is and won’t give her the time of day because of it / idols she really admires (worships the ground that her haute pink bias walks on, probably trying to become a part of her inner circle) / etc etc!

tw for a couple brief mentions of substance abuse & hard drugs + the death of a parent (unrelated to the substance abuse/drugs).

born october 28, 1997. was the first child, followed by a sister (do jihye) roughly two years later.

all things considered, jihan had a nearly perfect childhood. his family struggled with money, but both parents were mature enough not to let the kids know too much about that. they were very easy-going and passionate parents—they would not reprimand their children without damn good reason & they would move mountains to see them happy.

became interested in performing very early in life, and thanks to his parents who would do anything for him, he was able to pursue it aggressively. excelled in dance classes. by age 13 he had already decided that he wanted to be an idol. obviously he was made fun of because he was a little lanky ass kid talking about "i'm gonna be an idol!" but he *knew* he could do it, his parents *knew* he could do it, and his sister was already running around telling people he was a trainee before he even had come into contact with any industry insiders. he was loved so much that he was never doubted.

signed to midas music at age fifteen. and the shit going on in those walls blew his mind!

had never really been subjected to true criticism, real competition or... ahem, bullying before so it was hard at first but he was still young enough to be resilient. powered through all the way through the competition show that formed phaze to phaze’s debut, and then he kind of lost his shit and never fully got it back.

struggled to get accustomed to the rush of celebrity life, and it didn't help that phaze exploded onto the scene. there was no easing into it, it was a swan dive. jihan had never really doubted himself before, but something about it all made him start to experience imposter syndrome. eventually, that turned into full-blown depression, and in trying to escape the depression, jihan turned to substances.

this is where it got kind of... um... awful! circa 2019-2020, jihan was showing up to *most* schedules hungover, but occasionally felt a little too down and needed a pick-me-up so he would show up actively on something (usually cocaine or adderall) thinking "no one's going to notice". and most people didn't. but those who did notice that *something* was going on started talking, and there have been steady rumors floating ever since. rumors that still float to this day despite him now being 16 months clean/sober.

started to pull away from anyone and everyone who cared about him. did not want anyone calling him out on his shit, did not want anyone talking like they knew what was best for him, did not want those he loved to see how he was changing. this resulted in the steady loss of most/all of his good friendships and the deterioration of his family bonds. things went from bad to worse, and came to a head in 2023 when his mother (who had been sick for a while, and who jihan hadn’t visited) died. he had been in denial that that was a thing that was going to happen and knowing that she probably died wishing he’d come back home one last time crushed him. he went on the worst bender of his life, which he didn’t think would matter too much as it occurred when he didn’t have shit going on career-wise, but then a threatening post surfaced. someone claiming to have damning footage of him. probably from when he was on that bender. midas music covered it up but obviously he had to feel some kind of consequences… and boy, he’s still feeling ‘em!

has been going through various forms of “therapy” ever since, not exactly by choice. will bitch and complain about it but it’s helping. as mentioned before, is currently about 16 months clean/sober.

has had a careful eye kept on him since then as well. is treated like a rookie basically. it’s funny, except it isn’t. everyone else in phaze has gotten to have a solo debut and he can’t until “his behavior improves” :~) except he has a sneaking suspicion that midas music’s trust in him can never fully be restored, and therefore a solo debut will never come.

is bitter, hates phaze because of it. is it nice to be a part of something successful? yeah. however, jihan’s over it and not sure he can ever get back into it. tends to focus on other things, particularly girl code. has produced & written a decent amount for them since their debut and it mostly fills the void.

ii.

before, jihan was an almost stupidly sweet kid, though somewhat entitled. he knew what he wanted out of life and he knew that he’d get it. this confidence could be annoying, but it was harmless and genuine—he had never been faced with doubt, so he never learned to doubt himself. simple as that. was pretty friendly in his own offbeat way, typically keeping to himself *but* quick to join someone in the company cafeteria who was sitting alone, eager to help other trainees with their dancing, etc. meant well, always.

obviously, he’s… not like that anymore. he changed pretty quickly following phaze’s debut, thought it wasn’t exactly obvious since he was pretty quiet to begin with anyway—at first, it just seemed like he was talking even less than usual. and then the temper started. out of nowhere, he was angry about everything and seemed to think that everyone was against him. for years, he would flip between being mean for no reason to acting like everything was peachy (of course, never apologizing for his behavior) and would be pretty much unreachable if he didn’t have somewhere he needed to be. as mentioned previously, lost almost all of his friends in this timeframe.

but if we’re analyzing only present-day (2025!) jihan, he’s mellowed out a lot in the past ~year. has come to terms with a lot of the things that he was struggling with and is starting to come to terms with the rest of it. is still a piece of shit, just in less obvious ways: i.e, he will turn any little issue that’s brought up about him on whoever’s bringing it up, will forget important things and then make whoever else is involved feel like shit for *caring*, is disloyal in every aspect of life. he’s pretty impossible to be around if you actually care about him, but is much kinder to surface-level acquaintances. always thinks he can be better with someone who hasn’t already experienced his worst traits because he *thinks* he’s better now, and then the bad traits surface and he’s too full of himself to apologize/even acknowledge that he’s been unkind.

do jihan will never have a redemption arc.

iii.

as far as plots go, i’m down for anything! but here are some ideas to kick things off:

who’s known him for years and is still hanging on for the sake of who he used to be, not who he is now? someone who keeps their fingers crossed hoping things can still be like “the old times”, and it always leads to disappointment.

public bff who started getting to know him in 2023 or 2024 when he was on his Best Behavior, but is now starting to realize he’s a risk to not only his own image, but theirs as well and is consequently trying to pull away from him. as one of his last good friends left, he really doesn’t want to let go.

who’s his keeper within phaze… from the outside, they look like good friends—on the inside, they kind of wish they never met each other. but since they did, and since they’re here together, something’s gotta give. they’re trying their best to keep jihan in line whilst his capacity to care is running out.

her mother’s script on a sticky-note attached to a tupperware container of leftovers, the first thing that really sticks with her. she’s twelve—a growing girl, her mom would often remind her with a glance to her midsection. somehow, she’s not hungry anymore. she closes the fridge and leaves the kitchen empty-handed.

“fucking bitch,”

the voice of a classmate. which classmate, she’s not sure—the hallways are crowded and she’s walking with a purpose. still, she hears the comment and she knows it’s directed at her. it means nothing. she’s on her way to pick a fight with some girl over some boy. petty shit that won’t matter in a year’s time, or so she tells herself.

“saetbyeol is doing great in class. is she interested in becoming an idol?”

a text from a dance teacher to her mom. saetbyeol is fifteen: old enough to know what she does or doesn’t want, but young enough for her mother (a woman who always wanted to feel special) to still attempt to live vicariously through her. after all, there’s a reason why she’s encouraged saetbyeol to take dance and vocal lessons—yes, she wants to be an idol! (and, okay, maybe she does.) the auditions start, and they never end.

“better luck next time.”

a text from a boy she used to be interested in following the news that she didn’t make it into the lineup of the group formed from the survival show that she was on. salt on a still-bleeding wound. he might mean well, but saetbyeol can’t bring herself to believe it. “i got signed, asshole!” she sends back before blocking his number.

“meet me @ 7-eleven in 30mins?”

it’s a text from another ydh trainee. she’s a well-meaning girl, but saetbyeol has come to view her as someone who lacks self-control. for this reason, saetbyeol does not view her as competition. she knows that the invitation is for companionship in a guilty habit, innocent indulgence after a long week. saetbyeol goes, but only to make a point that she’s not eating.

“congratulations on the big debut!”

it’s a notecard attached to a bouquet of roses. there is no signature, but she knows it’s from her mom; she’d know that penmanship anywhere. god, it must be the first time that her mom has congratulated her without some biting comment to follow it up with. younger saetbyeol might’ve cared, but something about it just pisses her off now. the roses go straight to the trash. she never sends a thank you text.

“noh saetbyeol, you think you’re hot shit now?”

a comment on a livestream. it’s lost quickly amidst all of the other ass-kissing comments from her fans, but she’d noticed it. she feels something. a jolt of fear, a pang of regret. it’s lost just as quickly as the comment is.

“you’re on in 20. where are you?”

it’s a text from her manager that goes ignored, as a majority of the less-important ones do. she feels like somebody when she makes other people nervous, when she makes them come looking for her. it’s proof that she’s her mother’s child. she keeps an eye on the time, pushing it as far as she can. she returns to her greenroom with five minutes ‘til showtime. “i was getting a fucking granola bar from the snack machine,” she mutters.

“you’re not a good person, saetbyeol. you only think about yourself. i can’t keep talking to you. i’m sorry.”

a text from her best friend, the last text saetbyeol ever received from her. not for lack of trying on her part, though—she lost count of how many times she reached out with desperate pleas for another chance. turns out “i know you were just angry” and “i know you didn’t mean it” aren’t good substitutions for an apology. the silence gives her time to think.

“therapists near me”

an internet search dated january 1, 2025. new year, new me. everyone says it and saetbyeol thinks she’s ready to live it. it’s always easier said than done.

she’s meant to sell a product and she sells it well. she’s a girl who struggled for years to make her dream come true, a girl who was ready to give up when ydh entertainment swooped in and saved the day—but ready to give up or not, she never lost her hopeful spark. this is the foundation of her concept: poppy, in-your-face confidence and positivity. she sticks to it like glue; if she’s being watched, she’s smiling. if she’s speaking, it’s happily. as far as her music goes, the concept changes sometimes just to maintain a degree of realism. nobody is happy all the time, after all; a heartbreak here, a setback there, it’s a reassurance that this product is just like the consumer. it ends with the music, though; saena herself does not have bad days. again: if she’s being watched, she’s smiling and if she’s talking, it’s happily.

overall, she’s successful. six years in, her clean and happy image remains in tact. she’s not exempt from criticism (“26 years old and still doing aegyo? grow up!”), but what criticism she does get doesn’t faze her. why would it? she’s saena, the saena who’s been endorsed by companies like converse and lotte chilsung; and as long as the product is successful, the product is happy.

park geon’s parents were two unprepared, unmarried twenty-somethings. his birth was preceded by a hasty marriage. however, despite the surprise nature of his birth he was still incredibly loved. geon spent many of his childhood years being watched by his maternal and paternal grandparents. and almost as soon as he could talk geon was singing and holding pretend “concerts” for his extended family.when geon’s father got a better job offer in seoul the small family unit picked up their roots and made the move. although it was far from everyone he knew geon quickly began to thrive in his new environment. and when their family unit increased by one more member soon after the move geon was very enthusiastic to be a big brother. and when his younger sister was born geon immediately took to his new role.geon began taking guitar lessons after the move to seoul and immediately fell in love with the instrument. soon enough he began having actual performances via his school that all his extended family made the journey to seoul in order to see. at one of these performances also happened to be a talent scout for a music label. she was impressed with geon’s performance and gave him her business card.given that geon was only a young teen at the time he had to have parental permission which they eventually gave. however, they were both somewhat hesitant about the idea of geon actually becoming an idol. but as the years of training went on it became apparent that the label had no plans for geon. geon decided to end his trainee contract on his eighteenth birthday and did his mandatory enlistment shortly after.when he came back geon expected to sit for entrance exams, however, by pure luck he came across auditions for ydh. geon decided to give it one last shot. he passed the auditions quickly and began training but this time with a promise to himself that he would debut within three years or give up for good. he was tired of waiting around for something that always seemed just out of reach but he couldn’t let himself give up without one last sincere try.in the end it took just under two for him to secure a solo debut. and that solo debut did much better than even geon himself had expected. what really pushed him into the spotlight was when an interview where he showed good manners by making himself closer to the reporter’s height went viral. many were endeared by the gesture and it quickly earned him the moniker “nation’s son-in-law”. with every new release and new schedule geon only further cemented his wholesome and kind image. his squeaky clean image, however, quickly became a burden. although geon was grateful for the amount of fans he gained because of it he started to feel trapped and like he had to think through his every move at least three times. it caused more than a few panic attacks, but ydh was determined to keep pushing geon as wholesome and family friendly because it was the most profitable image. geon still has regular spikes of anxiety and often loses sleep worrying about the ramifications of absolutely he everything that he does. the acquisition of ydh by midas actually provided a small amount of relief for him as he felt that maybe he could slowly break away from his squeaky clean boyfriend image.

from the moment he debuted geon’s brand has been wholesome and sweet. in the early days of his career he was often seen with a guitar in hand, forgoing most choreography in favor of simply singing sincerely. many of his songs were marked by almost conversational lyrics of sweet yearning. eventually he quietly made the transition to doing choreography with his songs though he kept the sugary sweet and yearning lyrics that made him so popular to start. a very large chunk of his fanbase are women, particularly older women who were endeared by his gentle voice and kind personality.in short geon is well-mannered and talented and seems to charm people no matter where he goes. a viral post about his manner legs pose for a reporter early in his debut set the tone for most of his career. it didn’t take him very long after that to earn the moniker nation’s son-in-law. and that impression only gained more strength when he began acting. his soft almost puppy-like features made him a favorite for romantic dramas though his acting has somewhat taken a backseat in favor of his music career. his various hosting jobs have also only added to his likability factor making him seem more accessible and down to earth.

Ever since Kiyong could remember, his dream had always been to debut as an idol. His obsession began early on, around the time his parents finalized their divorce. He was a quiet kid who usually got along with most people, but due to his family situation (coming from a divorced household), other students would talk badly about him or judge him. So he set his sights on becoming an idol to show society that, even as the son of divorced parents, he could become a successful and beloved person. With lots of determination and passion, Kiyong auditioned for YDH Entertainment at the age of 12 and was recruited as a trainee soon after. With his set goal in mind, Kiyong kept his focus on training and expanding his musical knowledge. It wasn’t hard for him to stay one of the top trainees due to his discipline and strong willpower. There was never anything that distracted him from his goal, so he was known as the ideal trainee. He was never hard to approach, being always kind and helpful to anyone who talked to him.

Kiyong really wanted to debut in a boy group, mostly because he liked the idea of having something like siblings, since he grew up as an only child and never had many friends to begin with. However, as years went by and many of his peers debuted or left the company, Kiyong began to lose his confidence, especially once he became one of the longest-training trainees at YDH Entertainment. At first, he was told he was still too young to debut (which was true in his first years), but when people his age started debuting, Kiyong became more doubtful of his company’s honesty. He wasn’t sure what he was lacking, and it reflected in his performance, which dragged out his training time even further. At some point, Kiyong questioned his goal and wondered if the people who used to talk badly about him were right after all. However, not wanting to give up and waste all those years as a trainee, Kiyong continued to focus on his goal. He was considered for the lineup of the boy group Sodapop but ultimately didn’t fit the vision the company had for the group. Instead, he was offered the opportunity to make his debut as a soloist. Although Kiyong was unhappy about not being part of a group, he just wanted to finally debut and release his music. So he agreed, signed his contract, and made his debut as a soloist under YDH Entertainment.

Kio is marketed as a “modern-day phoenix” — someone who rose above personal struggles to achieve his dreams. While his stage presence gives off confidence and professionalism, his off-stage persona is known for being warm, approachable, and deeply empathetic. This duality allows him to connect with a wide audience, particularly fans who can relate with his background of coming from a divorced family and feeling judged for it. His solo releases have been perceived as more appealing to the global market rather than domestically, but they still do relatively well domestically too. rule changes

AGE RULES: we'll be changing our aging rules to only allow aging up by 2 years and aging down by 3 years. the reason we've decided to make this change is because we want to promote more diversity when it comes to the ages and generations of our faceclaims. our current rule technically allows 4th and 5th generation idols to be placed into 3rd generation groups and vice versa. while this isn't a big issue, we do want to promote the use of older faceclaims so we've decided to adjust these rules to keep our age ranges balanced and diverse.

this does not apply to current muses or reserves made prior to this post. you may keep their ages as is if you aged up by 3 years, but muses reserved after this post must follow these rules. our rules page has been updated to reflect this.

AGE GAP RELATIONSHIPS: we updated our age gap guidelines to provide a little more clarity on what is and isn't acceptable for age gap relationships. our age gap rules are as follows: large age gaps (over 5 years) will only be permitted for muses and faceclaims aged 25 and over. muses and faceclaims aged under 25 cannot be involved in relationships with muses over 5 years older than them. aging a faceclaim up or down to make an age gap lesser is against the rules. age gap relationships and power-imbalanced relationships (involving npcs 25+) are likely to be mentioned in admin-led plot drops and our groups' histories, so please keep that in mind if that makes you uncomfortable.

we sometimes get asks that allow us to expand on our companies' behaviors and histories, so we figured we were in need of a worldbuilding tag that you can refer to if you're interested in reading more about our companies. the tag is #midas:worldbuilding. tracking it isn't required, but you're certainly welcome to!

upcoming staff positions

the current timeline for staff positions is tba, but we've taken your interest into account and will be going forward with adding manager positions. managers for soloists will be available by request, and we'll provide a form for soloists to fill out if they're interested in having a manager. it's a short form, but it's just to make sure we're able to convey what you're looking for in a manager to anyone who's interested in taking up that position.

groups with 6+ members or groups with multiple group-based soloists will have two managers. both managers will work with every member during group schedules and be assigned to specific members during solo schedules.

we're thinking about also adding stylists, choreographers, and mentors (vocal, dance). we're on the fence about adding producers since we don't want to take away too many production claims from our producing idols. if we do add in-house producer roles, we'll likely stick to them in midas music or ydh entertainment only. however, do note none of these additional positions are finalized yet and may not be added if we're unable to work them into the narrative properly.

we don't want to add too many additional staff positions, but if you have other staff positions you think could fit in nicely, send us an ask! we're open to any suggestions.

soloist skeleton rewrite

we've finalized a draft of our soloist skeleton rewrite and wanted to get opinions on it before we publish it and open up new soloist positions! you can view the draft here.

currently, the intention is that muns will fill in the information for music show wins, award show wins, and tours on their career pages. we'll likely put a cap on specific awards (daesangs) to make sure nobody goes too overboard and a cap on how many tours a muse may have per year. however, if you'd prefer for the admin team to fill that in, we can do so.

to our current company soloists: if you'd like us to rewrite your skeleton in this format, please message us and we can write a new one together! we know you may have already established some of these things on your own, so we don't want to step on your toes. we'll collaborate with you to make a new skeleton that works for our vision and your's! we will also refund any primary items spent on awards or tours for our company soloists.

✩　midas labels family concert

to commemorate ydh entertainment joining the "midas family" last year, the annual midas family concert will be returning between february and march. the concert has been officially announced to staff, artists, and the public, but official promotions and teasers have not yet been published. however, it has been confirmed that all artists under midas labels will be participating in the concert. this will be our first official event and more details will be revealed when the event period officially starts. however, all groups and company soloists have been informed of the upcoming concert and will now begin their preparations for the concert — including dance and vocal practices and fittings for stage outfits. more details on the setlist (including solo, unit, and collaboration stages) and promotions surrounding the concert will be revealed in the official event post!

✩　phaze

phaze wrapped up promotions for ICE ON MY TEETH in december and midas music is discussing a potential tour for phaze sometime later this year, but they're waiting to see which festivals phaze will be performing before any tour plans are finalized. but before that, midas music wants phaze to pump out some more music. ICE ON MY TEETH was an extremely successful comeback for phaze and the company is eager to capitalize on that momentum. there's room for one member to have a solo comeback before the group's comeback in april, and the current candidates are phz1, phz3, and phz4. executives will be meeting with each member before making their final decision. muns of phz1, phz3, and phz4 are asked to contact the main if they're interested in their muse having a solo comeback in mid-february. more details will be discussed privately! muns with muses who are not given a solo release are allowed to claim one free secondary item or two free tertiary items to keep their muse busy during this quarter.

✩　haute pink

with contract renewals on the horizon, midas music is buttering the girls up with the solo schedules of their choosing — within reason, of course. hp2 and hp3 will be preparing for their solo comebacks, with hp3 coming back in march and hp2 beginning preparations for a comeback album in the summer. while hp1 and hp4 will be kept busy with photoshoots, variety appearances, and other projects of their choosing. a full group comeback is being discussed for may, and the members will soon get to hear the potential title tracks in march. tensions are ramping up between haute pink's solo fandoms, and the members are feeling the heat in their comment sections. midas music has decided to try and appease hauties by sending the full group to an episode of KNOWING BROTHERS. though full group stans and the general public are delighted to see all four of haute pink back on a variety show, solo stans just use the episode as further fuel for their hate comments. muns with muses who are not given a solo release are allowed to claim one free secondary item or two free tertiary items to keep their muse busy during this quarter.

✩　girl code

a comeback is in discussion for girl code following the success of WHIPLASH, but there is no finalized date yet. however, the members have heard a few potential tracks and have begun practicing some choreography drafts. before their comeback date is officially set, midas music wants to send the girls on vacation to celebrate the end of their tour and WHIPLASH's success. of course, this will be filmed for a reality show. filming for their reality show will start on february 17th and take place in THAILAND, where they'll be vacationing for about one week. girl code's public reputation is still fragile as a result of their scandal, but the reality show is welcomed by their fandom since they rarely get to see a glimpse of the girls as human beings. alongside filming for their reality show, girl code will become brand ambassadors for CALVIN KLEIN JEANS and PUBLIC BEACON. they'll also be featured on the cover of NME in february and VOGUE KOREA in march.

✩　remedy

remedy's fandom, healers, have been extremely vocal about the lack of full group schedules, but midas labels has yet to give into their demands. currently, there is no group comeback scheduled — but when asked, midas labels has said there will be one "in 2025". for now, remedy are focusing on their individual schedules. the first candidates up for a solo comeback are rmd4 and rmd5. muns of rmd4 and rmd5 are asked to contact the main if they're interested in their muse having a solo comeback in mid-february or early march. more details will be discussed privately! muns with muses who are not given a solo release are allowed to claim one free secondary item or two free tertiary items to keep their muse busy during this quarter.

nymth is starting the year with promotions for their redebut title track, VIRTUAL ANGEL. music show promotions will begin on tuesday, the 28th with performances of VIRTUAL ANGEL and SPARKLE on THE SHOW. music show promotions for VIRTUAL ANGEL will wrap up on friday, february 14th. nymth is starting the year with promotions for their redebut title track, VIRTUAL ANGEL. music show promotions will begin on tuesday, the 28th with performances of VIRTUAL ANGEL and SPARKLE on THE SHOW. nymth will take home one music show win for VIRTUAL ANGEL on MCOUNTDOWN. alongside their win at MCOUNTDOWN, they'll take home the fan-voted HOT STAGE AWARD at INKIGAYO. music show promotions for VIRTUAL ANGEL will wrap up on friday, february 14th. prior to VIRTUAL ANGEL's release, nymth's editorial for THE STAR MAGAZINE was revealed. alongside the editorial, nymth filmed a random play dance for the magazine. outside of music show promotions, most of nymth's promotions for VIRTUAL ANGEL are on youtube programs. though their fanbase is appreciative of more opportunities to see the girls, midas labels is criticized for not trying to get them any major promotional gigs, such as appearances on variety shows or editorials in major magazines. after BIRTH went semi-viral on the korean side of twitter in december, nymth's fanbase, lune, were hoping to see the prerelease promoted on music shows, but the only promotion BIRTH will receive is at their showcase. thankfully, the showcase performance was uploaded to youtube and the video racked up a generous amount of views. still, some fans are upset at the missed opportunity to officially promote BIRTH. at the midas family concert in february, they'll have a semi-viral moment both internationally and domestically due to their performances of selene's old songs, SATELLITE and HI HIGH. videos of the fans' excitement, as well as fancams and photos showing the members getting emotional during these performances, is shared on DOLTALK's community forum and trends for several days, racking up thousands of comments by touched netizens. this semi-viral moment sees HI HIGH and BUTTERFLY re-entering the charts, and VIRTUAL ANGEL receives a nice little bump as a result. VIRTUAL ANGEL peaks at #50 on the circle digital chart and <DALL> peaks at #5 on the circle monthly album chart, while HI HIGH and BUTTERFLY re-enter the circle digital chart at #62 and #67. all four chart positions mark a career-high for nymth. following this success, cho taejoon and go eunsung will meet with kevin yoon to discuss a potential spring comeback for nymth.

sodapop is informed last-minute that they'll be making a comeback with DOCTOR! DOCTOR!, a r&b ballad they had recorded for an earlier album but was ultimately scrapped. with valentine's day coming up, yang dohee and an jaeseop decided the song should be released as a special digital single during february. they're informed the music video filming will take place on january 31st and filming will wrap up on the 1st of february, with fittings taking place on january 29th. DOCTOR! DOCTOR! will be released on february 10th and the single will be promoted on music shows until february 24th, with the first stage taking place on MCOUNTDOWN. the DOCTOR! DOCTOR! tiktok challenge goes semi-viral for its cute and easy choreography, but the members receive some backlash for some of their interactions with female idols. DOCTOR! DOCTOR! will earn four music show wins and will reach the top twenty of all major korean charts, peaking at #11. alongside the music show stages, they'll do a ton of valentine's day-themed fansigns. the fansigns last a little longer than DOCTOR! i. history

the daughter of a narcissistic stage parent. forced into beauty pageants and contemporary ballet when she was a small child. her mother wants to live vicarously through chaea, but also can't stand to see her daughter live out her dreams.

chaea learns all too quickly that something's wrong with her. at least, in her parents' eyes. she's too much: too angry, too sad, too loud, too promiscuous, she's too too too much.

her parents aren't nice. she learns this far too young. she learns that her mother doesn't (and will never) like her far too young.

when she first started dancing, she had a love/hate relationship with it. she hated that it was something she was doing because of her mother. hated having that connection to her, hated feeling like she had to impress her mother. but she liked the attention. found that she only felt whole when she was up on stage, under the spotlight.

but being a competitive dancer is slowly killing her. being mentored by her mother is slowly killing her. she wants to keep dancing, but not like this.

scouted at a recital by ydh. it's her ticket out. jumps at the chance and auditions. she's professionally trained in almost everything, so she gets in right away.

she's too much again. pulled from the girl group lineup because she's too difficult for the other girls to work with, and her self destructive behaviors nearly get her kicked out of the program. t&d suggest to the executives that they let her go. she's a lost cause. nobody wants to work with her.

but she has so much talent. raw, fiery talent. she's a force to be reckoned with, and she's magnetic. there's potential in her. everyone sees it.

midas music buys out her contract when ydh is about to give up on her. they decide to debut her as a soloist. she won't have to work with anyone else, so there'll be no issues. or so they think.

ii. image

her image is that of a… temptress? (listen… she’s tackled sirens, black widows, and vampires... i think temptress fits). anyway, chaea debuted in 2016. is known for being flirtatious, sensual, and sexually-liberated. those traits tend to get her quite a bit of hate and she's the subject of a lot of controversy (from having songs banned by kbs for being too provocative to various different scandals), but she still has managed to attract a large fanbase. women find her liberating, while men... well, they want to be with her!

chaea's always been hypersexual, and i think it's one of the reasons ydh entertainment were eager to cut her loose. she had behavioral issues as a trainee, of course, but she was hypersexual and one of their last straws was finding out how deep that hypersexuality ran, the amount of men she'd been sneaking into the dorms. pair that with bad behavior towards staff and other trainees and her emotional outbursts... they didn't want to risk investing in her. but… that hypersexuality is kind of what led to her image being the way that is under midas labels.

she's okay with the way she's sexualized. leans into it, harnesses it. sex sells and she knows she's good at it. she likes it, likes to get under people's skin and loves to see people clutch their pearls when she makes a comeback or has a performance, likes to fluster them, likes the attention that comes from being seen as a sort of sex symbol. i think she does see it as empowering because it was clearly born from who she is as a person.

she's had lots of scandals. clubbing scandals, dating scandals, whispers of attitude scandals. scandals over things she's worn, things she's done. she's always being talked about. it's very clear that part of her image, at this point, is to be controversial.

the idol you love to hate, hate to love. the idol you can't stop talking about. the idol you can't tear your eyes away from, even if she scares or disgusts you.

shes as hated as she is loved. she gets a lot of criticism and a lot of hate comments, but she's loved by women for her empowered image and men, of course, love her because she's easy to objectify. her company and herself already sexualize her, all they have to do is sit back and watch

think hyun* pre-recent controversy and other outspoken, sexually-confident female idols. her fanbase is largely female, and there's a lot of international support. she's praised for not conforming to idol norms, and for being outspoken and a symbol of female empowerment. but shes also hated by many for being too sexual, too "dirty", too loud, called crazy by many.

but at the end of the day, the people in charge of her career are men. she can't escape the male gaze no matter how hard she and her fans pretend she's empowered.

iii. personality

chaea's spent a very, very long time being called a monster and thinking she’s one, so now she just...  kind of acts like one. tends to lash out and seek revenge when she’s hurt. the more hurt she gets, the more venomous she grows. extremely, extremely self-destructive. ruins friendships and relationships because she doesn’t know how to control her emotions or express them healthily — and she’d rather push people away than allow herself to grow attached to someone and have them abandon her, or ruin the relationship unintentionally. she can be a bit toxic, a bit manipulative especially in romantic relationships... but it truly doesn’t come from maliciousness. she’s just so broken and has spent a long time believing that love is violence, love is cruelty.

is cold and icy to most ppl in an attempt to keep them at an arm’s length. likes to be alone but can’t be left alone — if she doesn’t have company in a sexual context, then she’s asking her manager to sleep on her couch so she isn’t alone at night. 

chaea off-stage is… pretty identical to chaea on-stage. she’s flirtatious, sexually-liberated, loves to tease. gets a thrill from teasing ( or pissing off ) men. however, she’s… very broken, and struggles with very big, very high emotions that she has no clue how to regulate or express in a healthy manner.

shes not... evil but shes not a good person? she acts like a worse person than she is deep down bc shes just been. taught that shes bad and shes wrong and shes too much so shes just convinced shes already bad, so why should she play nice or try to be good? but she isnt evil. she has a heart, its just shoved very deep down and its covered in thorns and she just doesnt know what healthy love looks like, she doesnt know what being a good person looks like

despite being extremely confident and bold, she is very self-loathing and considers herself a terrible person. insecurity plagues her despite being a naturally cocky person, and she’s irrationally jealous. very much a broken girl, but she doesn’t know that yet. instead, she just thinks she’s like this, this is what she is: a monster. she’s definitely gonna hit her breaking point at some point.

iv. wcs

tbh... close friends will be hard for her. she doesnt talk to many people and when she does, she's not honest. but i'd love to get her a few surface-level friends to see if they develop into a closer friendship? people she drinks and parties with, people she's worked with.

kiyong’s fingers hover over his keyboard, the studio speakers humming faintly. his eyes are heavy, the kind of tired that comes from hours of chasing a melody that keeps slipping away. the headphones around his neck feel like a weight trying to pull him down, and when he stretches, his back protests with a soft crack. three months. three months of tweaking, rearranging, and still, the bassline isn’t right. it’s close, but not quite there, and the frustration of being unable to fix this simple problem makes him want to pull his own hair out, though he doesn’t let it show. instead, he leans back, staring at the screen, the blinking cursor mocking him.

chaea was six when she realized her mother didn't like her.

she didn't understand why. she did everything her mother asked. when ahyoung signed her up for beauty pageants, she didn't complain. when her mother enrolled her in ballet, she went to class with a smile on her face — despite struggling with the structure that ballet demanded from her. she practiced every day after hagwon, she took care of her appearance; she didn't even eat during her birthdays in order to fit into her pageant gowns and recital costumes. she won competitions year after year after year, but nothing she did seemed to matter.

as the years passed, chaea grew to love dance. more accurately, she had a love-hate relationship with it. she hated that it was something she had to do because of her mother, hated feeling like she had to do well for her mother, hated that her mother was front row at every competition with an empty, emotionless gaze. no matter how well chaea did, how much praise she got, how many prizes she took home — nothing was ever enough.

and every time chaea looked at her mother, she could see the disdain in her mother's eyes. and every time ahyoung looked at her daughter, all she saw was a wretched mirror of the beauty she no longer was; a wretched mirror of everything she could have been.

because of that, chaea's mother could never like her.

her teacher had invited a scout to watch the academy's take on swan lake, where chaea had been cast in the dual role of odette and odile. chaea overheard the conversation and knew she couldn't be anything less than exceptional. a contract with an entertainment company was her golden ticket away from her mother's cold glare.

so, she practiced and practiced and practiced, bloodied her feet until she landed every pirouette perfectly, practiced her smile in the mirror until it looked a little more human, a little more inviting. she sacrificed sleep for practice and sacrificed dinner to drop a few kilograms before the recital.

she received an offer to audition for ydh entertainment following the recital.

on the drive home, her mother didn't say a word to her.

chapter four.

chaea was nineteen when she realized there was something broken in her.

she was three years into training, and nowhere close to debuting. it wasn't because of lack of skill — no, the scout had told her she was ready to debut the day she signed the contract. she was a far better dancer than any other trainee they had, and while her voice was lacking in technique, she had a distinct, sultry tone. her talent was praised after every evaluation, and the instructors called her a star. she was the perfect center, the perfect visual — a near-perfect idol.

but they wouldn't debut her.

because chaea was a problem. or more accurately, she had a problem — nobody could quite put their finger on it, but there was something wrong with song chaea. something was broken. she couldn't get along with the other trainees, she couldn't behave in lessons, and her emotions were erratic; unpredictable. she lashed out at instructors, got caught smoking and drinking, got caught sneaking boys into the dorms. she was a problem, and ydh entertainment eventually decided she just wasn't worth the risk — no matter how talented she was.

chapter five.

chaea was twenty when she was transferred to midas music.

her instructors at ydh entertainment were surprised, to say the least, when midas music had expressed interest in buying out chaea's contract. "she's a problem," they whispered lowly, anxious eyes shifting to where chaea sat in the practice room. "she's got a problem. she's not suited to be an idol."

but midas music insisted. they saw potential in her, saw something they could use, something they could exploit. "we don't want her to be an idol," cho taejoon had answered plainly. chaea watched as his lips twitched into a smirk. "we like her the way she is."

chaea was twenty-one when she made her debut.

she debuted as a soloist, not a member of a girl group. chaea liked this more, liked the idea of having the stage all to herself, having all eyes only on her. she didn't get along with the trainees under ydh entertainment, anyway — and she didn't like to share.

and when she stepped out on stage for her debut showcase, she felt complete.

she felt happy for the first time in her entire life.

she called home for the first time in a year to ask her mom if she watched her debut showcase. her mom gritted her teeth, told chaea she was disgusted:
