How would the DVHS boys react to their hair growing ridiculously long in their sleep?
Been a long time since we've had DVHS asks!
Fumito Abe:
He hated that he had to deal with it.
He didn’t like having his hair that long and unkempt.
Nozomu Aoyama:
Nobody would believe him if he told them.
Especially not if he told his followers.
It would make a really crazy story, though.
Hidekazu Fujimoto:
He would stay in his room until he was able to fix it.
Maybe Hamasaki would help him with that?
He didn’t want anyone else to find out.
Kazuhiko Ikeda:
He almost didn’t notice, since his hair was already long.
When he did, he just decided to cut it quickly.
He already cut his own hair, anyway.
Yasu Kadoshima:
Kind of a look, but not his style.
He would ask Rikimaru for help cutting it after.
It was weird that the dye in his hair didn’t grow out with his length, though.
Hayao Maeda:
No way was he stepping out of his room like that.
He looked ridiculous!
And Yoshida would for sure hold that over him.
Takeshi Matsumoto:
He liked it, but it would get too in the way of his work.
He didn’t even want to think about how that happened.
There had to be some kind of magic or something at play.
Ikuo Nakamura:
Honestly? He kind of liked it.
Or at least, a bit shorter.
He’d been meaning to try long hair sometime, anyway.

DVHS Reactions - 1.4
Me: waits two weeks to read 1.3 Also me: reads 1.4 the day after
Sticky note:
ishikawa camila - linguist - F abe fumito - historian - M maeda hayao - track star - M rikimaru kirika - hairstylist - F matsumoto takeshi - carpenter - M - D aoyama nozomu - blogger - M saito kagami - archer - F ueda miyuki - figure skater - F hamasaki utako - guitarist - F fujimoto hidekazu - songwriter - M ikeda kazuhiko - massage therapist - M kadoshima yasu - friend - G sasaki hanayo - herbalist - F yoshida etsuko - lucky student - F oshiro amaya - astrologist - F nakamura ikuo - charmer - M
Do you have the trial room layout? I assume Camila has the protagonist spot. This Monokuma seems…more chill, somehow. “Plus, the podiums are bolted into the ground. It'd be a pain to move them any time one of you twerps kicked it." Aww, no Scrum Debate? Perhaps the weapon was a wall? Or the door! Which is why it was closed. Oshiro being ominous. (If she’s the Chapter 3 killer though…) I would pay to see a fist fight between Aoyama and Yoshida. They would both fight dirty. Did Abe, too, listen to Kyoko’s explanation about locked rooms? I know Fusion said V3 ties into this somehow… The culprit could probably easily have taken a bobby pin out from someone’s hair. Or pocket. *clapping emojis* girlf…riends… Are they trying to break the kids out? Is that…the mastermind? …no, I don’t think so. Is it Abe / the traitor? Is it the same people that hijacked the intercom? (I am so set on Abe being the traitor, huh? I blame Iris.) …Why Matsumoto, though? Especially considering he’s stronger than she is. Also! I read some little bits of the BTHB (the non spoilery ones), and my conclusion is that I now ship Ikeda and Saito, and I want more Camila and Abe friendship. (This was not from the BTHB, I just think it.)

I know Fusion decided to do Bandori (DVHS edition) a while back, so could we have a followup? PJSK: DVHS! Four-person units plus a Vocaloid for each, featuring "you shouldn't technically be here" this time. - II
...I definitely didn't spend twenty minutes looking for this post
Dawn to Dusk:
Oshiro (leader), Matsumoto, Ikeda, and Saito
They focus a lot on composition more than anything else, and a lot of their music is said to be best played at night. That’s usually when they have the most time to work on it, too. They don’t really fit in any one genre, though, dipping their toes into everything.
Rin and Len would be their Vocaloids since I think it’d be a funny contrast between them arguing and Oshiro and Saito arguing.
Worldwide:
Ishikawa (leader), Nakamura, Yoshida, and Maeda
This group would probably focus on multilingual songs of all kinds, blending together different styles. Ishikawa of course knows lots of languages, Nakamura knows a bit of other languages, Yoshida’s just fun, and Maeda knows Russian!
Luka is their Vocaloid, since she’s known for being bilingual. I also think she would contribute to their chaos nicely.
Blossoming:
Hamasaki (leader), Fujimoto, Yasu, and Sasaki
They’re kind of like a traditional band like Leo/need, though a lot of their music is more calming. Fujimoto’s great with writing meaningful lyrics, though he doesn’t actually play with the rest of them. Hamasaki plays guitar, Yasu’s on percussion, and Sasaki’s on keyboard. All three of them trade off vocals.
Meiko is their Vocaloid, I think mostly because I associate these four with being more mature/older sibling-figures, kind of like how I think about Meiko.
On Your Feet:
Ueda (leader), Rikimaru, Abe, and Aoyama
They’re slightly more pop-focused, kind of in the realm of dance music. It’s surprising that Abe and Aoyama are part of the group in that regard, but the four of them work incredibly well together (barring some small bickering here and there).
Kaito is their Vocaloid, and I think he’d cycle between being a sort of mediator and contributing to their excellent vibes, haha.

And this is, well, quite off-topic, but I've been building myself a fantasy world with its own elements and all and wondering where characters from other franchises would go.
Let's see... based on these elemental names alone, where would you sort your DVHS kids? Odd question, but it's for... scientific purposes.
Solar Gleamings
Tropical Warnings
Swamp Dwellings
Forest Plantings
Cave Rockings
Desert Sandings
Volcanic Scorchings
Electric Boltings
Wind Breezings
Arctic Freezings
Ocean Drenchings
Lunar Dimmings

If the DVHS cast were YouTubers, what kind of channels would they have?
I haven't really thought of this before! Makes me want to write something for this, though
Abe Fumito: Homework help/short video essays on historical topics, sometimes collabs with Ishikawa
Aoyama Nozomu: Clickbait-y content, but his channel is still insanely popular
Fujimoto Hidekazu: Doesn't make any content himself but is often in Hamasaki's videos
Hamasaki Utako: Music covers and guitar tutorials
Ikeda Kazuhiko: ASMR
Ishikawa Camila: Language learning videos and travel recaps, sometimes collabs with Nakamura and Abe
Kadoshima Yasu: Video diaries, some let's plays
Maeda Hayao: Prank videos, track videos, exercise how-tos, challenges, sometimes collabs with Ueda and Yoshida
Matsumoto Takeshi: Woodwork videos
Nakamura Ikuo: Classic influencer content, including popular challenges and makeup tutorials
Oshiro Amaya: Astrology and tarot content, collabs with the rest of the class sometimes
Rikimaru Kirika: Get ready with me and storytime content mostly, hair tutorials, sometimes collabs with Nakamura
Saito Kagami: Art videos (posted under a screen name, doesn't show her face)
Sasaki Hanayo: Some video diaries, JSL learning videos, gardening how-tos, sometimes collabs with Yasu
Ueda Miyuki: Figure skating videos and vlogs, exercise and skill how-tos, sometimes collabs with Maeda
Yoshida Etsuko: Anything she wants, but especially videos of her and the Chaos Squad goofing off and of her at skate parks

How would the characters alive for DVHS chapter 3 react to someone offering to cook them rats? (Also, who would be the one offering?) don't ask me why i thought of this
I have a limit of 8 characters so I used these eight ^_^ Monokuma would definitely offer lol
Slight spoilers!
Hidekazu Fujimoto:
Well, it kind of worked.
By getting rid of the rest of his appetite.
Maybe he’d be able to hold on longer, then?
Utako Hamasaki:
She was shocked that anyone would ever offer that.
Even if it were a good deal, there had to be a catch.
It was no deal at all.
Kazuhiko Ikeda:
Yeah, right. That was such a great offer.
No, there was going to be something else to get them out of the motive.
He was sure of it.
Yasu Kadoshima:
The mere thought of it was disgusting.
She would never eat a rat!
It made her sick to her stomach.
Amaya Oshiro:
For just one second, she considered it.
But only because she was really, really hungry!
She actually loved rats as animals, she didn’t want to eat them.
Kagami Saito:
In response, she merely glared.
That would never come to fruition.
The motive would end soon enough.
Hanayo Sasaki:
Absolutely not!
Just thinking about it made her angry.
She would still try to find some other way to help.
Etsuko Yoshida:
Yeah, that was definitely some kind of joke.
She wasn’t that desperate yet.
She was pretty sure there weren’t even rats in the school.

Cuz the dvhs tag is very long, did you ever tell us the heights of all the characters? I know Saito's 5'6" and Oshiro's 5'0" but I don't know the rest. Can you add their heights in centimeters as well, like in parenthesis next to feet'inch"? Cuz characters who are, like, both 5'7" can be a couple centimeters apart in the metric.
I did post a height chart two years ago, but...
...This has brought to my attention that I never gave them height in centimeters so I'm making this up as I go along lol
Abe - 5'6" (168 cm) (also highkey forgot I aged him like 8 years up so I went to look for Nagisa's height ;-; same energy as me trying to google Yoshida's birthday)
Aoyama - 5'10" (178 cm)
Fujimoto - 5'2" (158 cm)
Hamasaki - 5'9" (177 cm)
Ikeda - 5'8" (174 cm)
Camila - 5'3" (162 cm) (this is my exact height)
Yasu - 5'5" (166 cm)
Maeda - 5'8" (175 cm)
Matsumoto - 6'1" (186 cm)
Nakamura - 5'9" (176 cm)
Oshiro - 5'0" (153 cm)
Rikimaru - 5'5" (167 cm), 5'7" (172 cm) with heels
Saito - 5'6" (170 cm)
Sasaki - 5'4" (164 cm)
Miyuki - 5'6" (169 cm)
Yoshida - 5'3" (161 cm)

I think your characters are starting to live rent-free in my head. Are you proud of yourself. I did a randomized talentswap and
Takeshi Matsumoto, Ultimate Friend (*checks first chapter* sure) Kirika Rikimaru, Ultimate Lucky Student (Confidence: 0) Miyuki Ueda, Ultimate Herbalist (Aesthetic <3) Hayao Maeda, Ultimate Linguist (I have a hard time believing this) Utako Hamasaki, Ultimate Track Star (Checks out I guess) Hidekazu Fujimoto, Ultimate Blogger (Changes nothing actually) Kazuhiko Ikeda, Ultimate Charmer (Boy do I like clowning on Ikeda) Amaya Oshiro, Ultimate Historian (Crime documentaries 24/7) Kagami Saito, Ultimate Guitarist (Guitarists have issues man) Yasu Kadoshima, Ultimate Archer (That's just scary tbh) Hayano Sasaki, Ultimate Astrologer (Aesthetic <3 2.0) Ikuo Nakamura, Ultimate Figure Skater (*takes randomizer's knees*) Camila Ishikawa, Ultimate Hairstylist (Fashion = mastermind smh) Nozomu Aoyama, Ultimate Carpenter (Axe body spray) Fumito Abe, Ultimate Songwriter (Fujimoto but emo) Etsuko Yoshida, Ultimate Massage Therapist (Absolutely not)
Oh I am VERY proud of myself, if they have to live rent-free in my head they have to live rent-free in yours, too. They're taking all the real estate
I'm trying to imagine Maeda as a linguist... tbh in some aspects I can't see it being very far off? Like just based on details I decided on fleshing out characters way after I finished DVHS
Though I would also like to steal the randomizer's knees for Ultimate Figure Skater Nakamura /j
Honestly though, I like a lot of these talentswaps! Still can't get over that you thought Camila was the mastermind thought lollllllll

DVHS Reread: Chapter II.II
I'm not the only one who rushes over when I hear it. Abe is only a few steps behind me. "Yoshida!" I open the door quickly and step inside, only to find Yoshida, still in her pajamas, standing on her bed and cursing out Monokuma. "Um...what's going on?"
"Monokuma just appeared in my room and woke me up!" Her glare doesn't lessen any. "Scared me half to death."
He blinks up at her, trying to look innocent despite being the exact opposite. "Promise?"
I laughed SO HARD writing this
The entire way back, my knees feel too weak to support me. I lean hard against the walls when I can, nearly collapsing a few times. My hands shake when I try to insert my key into the lock. My stomach clenches as I lay down on my bed. The ceiling looks like it's spinning a little. I'll probably pass out if I try standing again right now.
...I never fully figured out what this was when I wrote it, but last year I experienced a single day where I just felt incredibly sick but was fine the next day and never figured that out, either, so.
MONOKUMA THEATRE VII
This one has a reference to the Frozen song “Reindeer Are Better than People”
He glances over at them and shakes his head. "By chance last night, we all had dinner around the same time, so there were thirteen of us at the table. Maeda got up to leave first, and Oshiro just kind of went ballistic. She said something about a legend saying that when thirteen people dined at the same table, the first to rise would be the first to die."
This is probably by favorite red herring of this chapter- technically. He still died by the end of it
Abe sighs, his eyes pointed towards the ceiling. "History, also known as social studies, as in studying people and cultures." Sounds like he's had to explain that before, and that he's not really happy about having to do it again.
This was a tiny hint about his talent :)
Now would be the perfect moment to find one to prove him wrong. Of course, that fails to happen. "Why are you here? Just to bother me?"
"You wish." No, I really don't. "I'm here looking for some reading material."
I look at him out of the corner of my eye. "You don't seem like the type." I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover- pun intended- but I can't help it this time around.
He picks a book off of a shelf, and immediately I know he's bluffing. "You don't know me. For all you know, I love reading this. It's one of my favorite books."
I don't even bother looking at him over my shoulder. "That's a dictionary printed in German."
Seconds later, I hear the book hitting a pile. He abandoned that lie fairly quickly. "You sure are nosy."
One of my favorite Camila and Aoyama interactions
I start shoving the piles back. Kinda disappointing that I didn't find anything. Then again, the only secret passage I can think of is one leading to the mastermind's headquarters. The library seems inconspicuous enough to serve that purpose, but evidently not.
V3 reference lol
He and Hamasaki are both in the dining hall when I get there. So are Oshiro, Ikeda, and Abe. I assume the rest of them are either in their rooms or at the rink with Miyuki. Oshiro is the only one talking, as I've come to expect. "And that's why you should never trust an aquarius! Real crazy how that works, huh?"
A recent commenter picked up on how this could be foreshadowing ;)
Yoshida and Yasu aren't even skating, just sitting to the side and chatting.
Underrated friendship that I never really expand on
"I still haven't gotten over that it's easier to skate than rollerblade," Nakamura says, skating slowly nearby.
This is something I asked my dad about, since he used to do both a lot
MONOKUMA THEATRE VIII
Me thinking about some police show crossover my fam was watching around this time and comparing it to other crossover fics that are clearly better

DVHS Reread: Chapter IV.III
"You're correct in that. Especially with the secrets…" Something dark crosses her face. She reaches to her neck, making a face when her fingers don't find the chain of her necklace. She probably forgot to put it on today.
hahahAHAHA
Which, yeah, is a dangerous line of thought. Adapting to the paranoia is as good as giving up. At the same time, we've already lost so many people. Maybe learning to live here is-
The bells sound, shocking my system. "A body has been discovered! Everyone, please gather in the physics lab!"
-just what we need.
I think this is one of the only times a protag has not been one of the first couple to set off the BDA. One being, technically, Taka in DR1, since Makoto thought that one was for Hifumi, and the BDA going off after Kazuichi first for Mahiru before Hajime got to the beach house. I like that sense of panic!
After all, only one of us is small enough to fit in Yoshida's arms.
Y’know, before I went back and edited, this was gonna be different-
I’m just kidding. It was always Oshiro. This was fated from the start.
"You can't trust anyone." I blink, taken aback. "I know you're you and you want to trust everyone, but you can't. The secrets provide too much of a motive. We don't know who had Oshiro's secret, and we don't know whose secret she had. Everyone is suspicious if or until we can figure that out."
There's something frantic behind his eyes that was definitely never there before. "Why are you telling me this? Why now?"
He sighs, picking at the sleeves of his jacket. Even now, he looks so put-together. "Because, against my better judgement, I trust you."
This chapter is very interesting for Abe in my eyes, though I’m not entirely sure how to vocalize why that is. Mostly I think it has to do with his fluctuating feelings on trust, and whether he’s trusted back specifically by Camila.
I take the scrap of paper. Whatever's on it was written in ink, but it ran, each letter bleeding into the next so much that I can barely understand what it says. "...Etsu. Those are the only four letters I can make out."
Yasu sits back on his heels, thinking. "Like part of a name? Maybe that's whose secret she had."
I run through everyone's full names, ticking them off on my fingers, but the only one who has "etsu" in it is Yoshida Etsuko. And this can't be her secret; I have her secret.
~FORESHADOWING~
She's wearing leggings, but the area right under her knee is rubbed a little raw, almost like the fabric there is thinned or stretched. Kind of like rope burn, but on clothing? Maybe?
I mostly modeled this after the fact that my leggings tend to get thinner and worn in the thighs because of the fabric constantly having friction, so I figured a rope would have somewhat of the same effect in this case.
The room is surprisingly clean; I don't see any signs of a struggle. Everything looks just like it did when I looked through here the first time, with the obvious exception of a corpse.
I stressed before a couple times that Saito was really neat, so I figured this in and of itself would be a bit of a clue. I didn’t really try hard to hide the culprit of this case.
My eyes lift to the observation deck. It's almost a given that this has something to do with the case, given the nature of Oshiro's death. "I'm going to check there," I say to nobody in particular. Almost immediately, Sasaki grabs my arm, stopping me in my tracks. "Look, it's okay. I'll be careful."
I mean, I would want to double check on someone who not only lost the closest person in the game a few days ago but also was recently told they were almost a victim.
"It's lonely," Miyuki confirms, walking next to me. I frown and keep my eyes ahead. I can't respond, right now. If this is a hallucination, I shouldn't respond anyway. "Especially waiting before you found me."
I take in a sharp breath, ignoring the odd looks I get from Aoyama and Sasaki. She'd been helpful until this point; why is she telling me this? I don't want to know. I don't want to know.
She peers into the elevator. "It's a lot more roomy in here." She steps in, standing next to me like she did before the first trial. I try not to look, but I can see her slip her hand into mine. I don't feel it, of course. This isn't real. I keep repeating that in my mind. This isn't real.
Even though I absolutely do not know what I was going for with this hallucination or whatever I’ll probably eventually decide on, I really like this part.

DVHS Reread: Chapter III.IV
"But if you think about it, isn't the timing too perfect?" I ask, trying not to look over at Fujimoto. It feels odd to be arguing about this when he's on the ground right next to me.
I 100% forgot I had Monokuma just leave him there. That’s so cruel.
"Well, you know what they say about assuming: it makes an ass out of you and me." Yoshida's eyes light up a bit at her own joke. "But yeah, what did he even use? We didn't find anything in his room."
I heard that saying for the first time in 11th grade, around when I started writing this, I think. Or maybe it was the next year I started? Time is an illusion.
"We can't go off of just that," Ikeda says after a second passes. "I've read that artists sometimes produce their most happy work when they're depressed and vice versa. Everything else points to him killing himself, and we're supposed to take the word of contextless lyrics?"
This came from a treasury of Pearls Before Swine comics with commentary by the creator, Stephan Pastis. He mentioned that some of his darker strips were drafted during happy points in his life.
"I did," Oshiro and I say at the same time. Which helps no one. We wedged into the doorway at the same time, so I guess there's no telling if we were the third and fourth people or the second and third.
I always find it confusing how the BDA rule of three is only in certain cases, so it’s easier to just have four when one of the first ones there could be the blackened.
"Just listen! Strangling is often done with rope-like objects, right? Using a thin wire like a guitar string would not have the same effect. It would cut into her neck, causing her to bleed out. The cause of death in that case would be called garroting." Yasu shifts so he's facing me. "Ishikawa, I told you before that there was nothing that could be the murder weapon in the storage. There was a wire tool that's used to cut clay in the storage drawer, but what I said was true: the cause of death would not be strangling like the file said if the wire tool was used."
I got this both from my mom and logic from Alex from Magnus Chase. Garroting and strangling are two different causes of death. My mom confirmed that using a guitar string would probably have the former cause of death rather than the latter. Which isn’t a sus thing for her to know, she’s a murder mystery fan, too, which is why I read this to her.
She turns to me, unnerving me with her vacant look. It's like she's possessed or something.
I love Oshiro
Ikeda shakes his head, his arms folded. "Isn't that a flimsy argument? There's nothing more that ties me to the crime scene other than speculation and thin arguments."
So true bestie it’s because I have a hard time making conclusive evidence.
What is she doing? That wasn't what he had at all. I would've known; eucalyptus is one of the only essential oils I can't stand. Not that anyone else checked the water. "Ishikawa, didn't you say it was lavender?" Ikeda checks. "I don't have lavender oil in my room."
It clicks when Yoshida smirks at me, victory in her eyes. "I never said it was lavender," I tell him slowly. "Apart from eucalyptus, I don't think I could've placed the scent accurately."
Noooooooo Saito said last chapter it was lavender I screwed myself over with this! Gosh darn it!
Oshiro shifts a little to the side, away from him. "Buuuuut we know that they were killed by the same person, and that that oil has something to do with it. And you were the one who slipped up. A frogleg slip!"
Abe coughs. "Freudian slip."
I. LOVE. OSHIRO.
"Is that it? Are we done?" Yasu asks, his voice somewhat strained. He's swaying a little on his feet. If I look hard, his skin looks a palish green.
~Foreshadowing~
"There wasn't-" I gasp. I was hallucinating Miyuki in there. So when Miyuki- the hallucination- said that she would stay there, she saved me. I talked to her and Ikeda thought I was talking to someone else, maybe Hamasaki or Fujimoto.
If I hadn't hallucinated, I would be dead now.
Idk there’s just something I love about that.
The more needles Monokuma puts in, the further in they go. A few of them draw blood; Ikeda goes pale at the sight. Is he going to bleed out?
Callback to that Ikeda does not like blood, hence why he carried out the first technically bloodless murder in DVHS. Also I think I said before he’s not the biggest fan of needles, either.
As if on cue, the PA sparks on. "It's- okay! Almost- hang- right!" The voice mutters, impossible to make out, then a different voice, another feminine one, takes over. "-hear us? -calm- get out-"
This broadcast is the first real clue into who’s there, since you now know it’s two girls.
"We'll stop it," I hear Yoshida assure Oshiro softly. It's the quietest I've heard her. She has her arm around Oshiro's shoulders, comforting. "I promise, okay?"
I am so sorry to all Oshiro fans because that promise, as you know, will not last long.
Yasu feels almost feverish below me. I sweep his hair out of his eyes gently. With how panicked Sasaki was before leaving, I can't help but wonder if we're going to be losing another friend today.
This was always planned for the end of this chapter. I figured this specific event would have a higher sense of urgency between updates more than post-trials usually have.
