Revisiting an Old Flame - Yashica Electro 35 GSN
I last used my Yashica some 10 years ago. It has always been an impressive camera, but I’ve strayed far from it as a result of my affair with Leica. This was the camera I brought to the Netherlands for a work trip, having never put a roll through it. Looking back, it’s surely a combination of foolishness and overconfidence, knowing what I do now about the unreliability of some cameras. I…

what camera do you use? your photography is beautiful! <3
Heyo! Glad you enjoy my photography. I have... far too many cameras, so you'll see pics shot on many different cameras. I definitely have some favorites that I use far more than others.
My main camera is a Fujifilm X-T2 and most pics I post are from that camera. It's a great camera that I wish had IBIS. Recently I picked up an X-H1, which has the same sensor and IBIS but I don't like it as much. So, more recent stuff (that I don't think has even posted yet) is from the X-H1. There's also some stuff from a Sigma DP2 Quattro, which I love.
For infrared, I use a 590nm converted Panasonic GX85. I pretty much exclusively use the Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 on that camera. Truly a great little combo & the 25mm f/1.7 is one of my favorite lenses of all time. I also have a Panasonic GH3 that's 720nm converted, so if you see 720nm pics, they're probably taken on that camera instead.
For film, I'm still trying to find a truly great camera. My trustworthy camera right now is a Minolta Maxxum 5000. Most of my film shots on that, though I don't really love the controls. I've been testing out a Yashica Electro 35 GSN that I like the controls of way more, but I've gotta get my test rolls developed before I truly trust that camera.
If you're curious about the camera a photo is taken on feel free to check out my Flickr, which has EXIF data for all my photos.

He wasn't sure if Harry actually thought the camera was cool, or interesting, but it still made Peter smile and feel just as happy and excited about it. That was one of the great things about Harry, he never semed bothered when Peter genuinely got exacited about something. Even when it made him ramble off on a tangent for about five minutes. At the very least, he was being humored and Peter tried not to get too far off topic with it. But he liked that he never felt bad for actually having his interests, "It's a Yashica. Specifically it's an electro 35 GSN. You can only really get them used anymore, they stopped making them a few years ago, but it's pretty good."
The camera was lowered and turned over in his hands as Peter settled back again, "You know in movies when someone's in a dark room with a red lightbulb, kinda dramatically leaning over a few trays with liquid in them and moving a sheet from one to the next until a picture shows? It's like that, that kind of developing. I have the stuff for it under my sink in the bathroom right now." he explained, "It's cramped, yeah, but it's easier to clean things up in there and it gives me somewhere to work on things. I just have to get creative about it."
It took a few shots and tries, but he managed to get the hang of it. There were already a few photos that he liked best tacked up on his walls and the coark board behind his computer. Nothing too dramatic while Peter got some practice in, but he liked them already.
"So I now have three cameras. This one, the digital one so I can do yearbook stuff for school, and the polaroid from when I was a kid." because it still ran so of course he had it. Peter looked at Harry and smiled before shrugging a shoulder, "So...you know, I can bring you an actual photo photograph if you want one of somewhere. Not just a digital file." it was just different with film. The polaroid had been and still was fun for how quick the photos could develop. Running around the backyard or the park snapping shots of anything he wanted to save. Film like the new camera had to take time and care to actually develop, make sure that they turned out right.
Peter already knew it was going to be for the important stuff. Pictures of places and things and people that mattered and he liked the most.

If Peter brought him a photo, he'd definitely frame it and hang it, no doubt it about it. He'd even make his designer work around it if he had to, because it'd still be something far more personal than the vast majority of things Harry owned, which he'd picked because he liked them or had been gifts from companies, but not from someone who actually thought about Harry.
And he'd almost agreed to it when Peter was getting up from his chair, leaving Harry there in bafflement for a moment, before he came back. And while Harry's screen wasn't anything to write home about -not that he'd have ever written home anyway- he immediately recognized what it is. Well, in terms of function, it was a camera. And for better or worse, most of his knowledge of cameras had come from hearing Peter talking about them, and might be a few years outdated.
"So cool." He agreed, because he was sure he'd seen more expensive cameras around the boarding school, but those were mainly symbols of status. Peter was not trying to flaunt, and that immediately made it far more interesting.
And while Harry had and would have people whose job was to know things for him, beyond what he was being educated on, he found himself wishing he actually knew something about cameras.
"What model is it?" He asked, and then, after a moment, because he knew better than to admit he didn't know something, but this was also Peter... "Develop them, how?"
Because he knew there were studios for that, yes, but how would Peter do it in a bathroom?
