Spamano as a pair of lovers doomed to come back to each other time after time. They search for each other in everyone new that they go to. They will leave and come back a million times and still know that it is only each other that they can reach for.
From the moment that they met, they knew that their relationship would ruin all ability for them to ever depend on someone else like that. Because they have seen the ugly in each other, they have seen the despair, the anger, the struggles
Antonio and Lorenzo will butt heads over and over again. Antonio is prideful and believes he knows best. Lorenzo will always fight against anyone that believes they dictate his life. So Antonio will get jealous and Lorenzo will say things he does not mean. They will argue loud enough for others to hear. They are stubborn but for different reasons.
Antonio's pride means that he believes that nobody will ever understand Romano the way that he does. Nobody will ever see him the way that he sees him. Nobody will know him as Antonio knows him. Everyone will miss all the little things that make Romano Romano and so they will neglect him. Only he could understand him and so no matter how many times he swears he won't be there when Romano fails in his endeavors with others, he will run to the door at the first sign that he is there.
Lorenzo likes to pretend he is fed up with Antonio. He likes to convince himself that he is done dealing with his possessiveness, his anger, his pride. But he knows that he will look for his arms the moment that all else fails. Antonio could tear him apart, piece-by-piece, and he would still find it within him to cut Antonio's hair when it gets bad. He will always be there to cook when he cannot keep up the facade of being happy-go-lucky. He will always care when Antonio has nothing left but his name.
They don't complete each other, not in any sense of the word soulmate. They aren't lovers destined find happily ever after. They are two rotten men who love the act of being rotten together. They are perfectly imperfect. They will forever search for love in each other because nobody else has seen how unlovable they are and still loved them anyway.
Antonio has charm galore but drives people away once they see who he is and how flawed he is behind that smile. Lorenzo is abrasive and can never believe that anyone wants him in any meaningful way. Both have their own flavor of masculinity issues. They are broken men who find peace in each other. They complete each other not because they are soulmates but because they have been given every reason to not work out and they find each other again anyway.
They are doomed to always find their way back to each other. Every time. In every life. They know that nobody else could compare. They are always going to search for the path that leads them home.

HWS Italy does not respect women. That man is a whore and he talks about women’s bazongas all of the time. He’s a little womanizer and probably has nailed and bailed a few times. I’m sorry to everyone but this is the truth u_u

Romano looks in the mirror and sees his father. He can see him in his curls, in the color of his eyes, in the way that it looks when he smiles. He sees him in the way that he moves and hears him in the sound of his voice. Rome’s memory rests in his appearance.
And it tears him apart. His complex feelings about his father wear him down and often leave him crying and tearing apart all proof that he ever was tied to him. Feliciano embodies his personality, but Lorenzo is cursed with being the spitting image of him.
He hates looking in the mirror because it serves as a reminder of all that he has failed to accomplish and all that he feels he can never really amount to. He doesn’t want his father’s greatness, he isn’t sure what he would do with it. But it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t feel the failure of living up to his image breathing on his neck.
He can see the ghost of him following him in his day to day - disappointed at all he has managed to keep for himself. Perhaps even wondering how they could be related. At least, that’s what he thinks when he thinks of his father watching over him. He can’t imagine there’s a thing about him that makes his father proud.
He wonders if he will ever be able to do anything that would make him proud. But those thoughts are reserved for when he’s alone and away from everyone else in the world. When he can curl up in bed and try not to dwell on the crushing weight of it all. They’ll never reach the outside world.
The prince who looks like the king. The father and the son. Lorenzo is his father’s son and he cannot bear to be reminded of it.

Facts about Huitzilihuitl (My Tetzcoco OC)!
- He sprouts cacti from his head when flustered or nervous. Sometimes those cacti bloom flowers and sometimes they yield fruit! It's kinda a little surprise each time. You never know what you're getting with him.
- His hair is long and even now but he's rocked various haircuts including a bowl cut and a bob
- He loves the stars and will talk your ear off about them
- He cant cook for shit. Please don't let this man feed you his cooking.
- He uses the name Dante in modern day when interacting with most people and doesn't give his actual name until he feels close to someone

Imagine Antonio having nothing. He’s lost everything that gave him a name, he’s alone because he’s burned so many bridges, and he still refuses to ask for help.
It’s a sign of weakness, a sign that he doesn’t have everything figured out. He wouldn’t dare let anyone see that he is not put together and composed. He would rather rot away than admit that he has fallen weak and needs a shoulder to lean on.
Where he learned this behavior, who knows. Antonio surely doesn’t. It’s always been there and it always will be — the inability to admit that it’s time to let other people in.
He’ll smile of course. He’ll laugh and chat as if everything around him isn’t crumbling to dust. Antonio will wave his hand and ignore his problems and argue that there is nothing at all to be concerned about. He’ll give you a kiss on the cheek and embrace you but you can see the bags under his eyes, the lack of color in his face, and the way that his clothes seem too loose on him. Antonio will wither away and deny that there was ever a sign of it coming.
Of course. A man does not let others know his problems. He bottles them up and keeps them reserved for as long as he possibly can. They are not meant to be touched by the crisp cool air or observed by the average person’s eyes. They are meant to hide in Earth forever, doomed to build up bigger and bigger until they can build up no more.
And then Antonio will explode.
He’ll break into thousands of bits and scatter all around. His words will come out with fury that he has kept secret for so long. He’ll lash out and bite at anyone that dares come near because how could anyone understand what he is feeling? They don’t and they can’t. Antonio is alone and that’s the way it is meant to be.
Even when he tears at his hair or sobs for hours hidden away, he cannot imagine allowing anyone to see him in this state. It’s too dangerous to let anyone see how vulnerable he is, how pathetic he feels, and how much he needs someone to lean on.
Antonio has nothing. Antonio lost all that might have kept him standing tall. All that is left is a man who smiles and denies that he is in pain.

as someone new to your blog could you go into your racebent romano? thank you! could you go into how you write the character? how it effects him? what brought you to that interpretation of him? i am very curious /gen
Of course!
So the reasons that I ultimately decided to make Romano as a mixed man have to do with me disliking the way that Hima stated Romano was mixed race only to then claim it was his "Arab blood" that makes him so mean and violent. That's just....yikes. For so many reasons. I'm really surprised the fandom doesn't talk about that more.
But I suppose that would mean people admitting Hima is not great and people lose their minds over that. But ANYWAY
The other reasons that I ended up making him mixed-race is because I write him to be in touch with the Arab influence in Southern Italy anyway and it fit. As well as me also being a person of color, I wanted to see a little bit of myself in his character even if I am Latino and not European haha.
But for some more details.
As far as Nationverse goes, I headcanon Romano and Veneziano to have different mothers. While Veneziano's mother was Ancient Greece, Romano's mother was Phoenecia. When in humanverse, Romano's mother is Lebanese (I believe in one of my fics I made her Tunisian but that is scrapped for everything else humanverse) or Syrian. Feliciano's mother is Greek.
Overall, his mixed-race identity has greatly affected him over the years. It's led to a lot strife due to colorism and racism, has bothered him in Europe, and was a great factor in the way he treated during Risorgimento.
He was greatly impacted by the idea that his Arab heritage made him more violent, more barbaric, and unable to be a fit leader for his people. This especially had a big impact on how he was dealt with during Unification. Often times he was dismissed or treated like he was incapable of changing into someone that could be a good leader.
The other thing it historically impacted him with is that it caused him to be viewed as an outsider to his own home. Even though he has always been there and has a deep history with the land, the fact that he looks different and comes from a nonwhite mother caused a lot of poor treatment for him.
For a long time, he tried to make himself more European and erase the racial/ethnic background he comes from. So a lot of his early portraits and such lighten his skin and make his hair look a lot more loose or wavy compared to the curls he has now. He stopped doing this around the time of Risorgimento as he didn't want to feel ashamed of who he was any longer.
I think it's a complicated thing for him. He doesn't feel shame anymore and he takes a lot of pride in the fact that he is a testament to his people's history, but he would be lying if he said he didn't sometimes wish he and Feliciano came from the same mother. Oftentimes, he struggles with feeling like he'll never quite reach the place he wants to be in life. He worries he'll never be seen as fit to represent his people and he worries he might have done all this fighting in Risorgimento for nothing.
With modern attitudes towards Arab immigrants in Italy, he especially is hesitant to talk about how he feels with people. The last thing that he wants is to give his government yet another reason to limit the impact he has on things in Italy and how it's governed.
He definitely struggles a lot with either being seen as an outsider or being seen as someone who can't fully understand the needs of his people. Though he works hard with everything going on, the impact of ideas such as The Southern Question (the 19th century idea that the South of Italy was backward and unable to be reformed) still limit him. HIstory has taken its toll on him and he definitely has a lot of feelings about that.
Overall, he doesn't feel shame but he does feel frustration at the idea that he might never be seen as capable enough to govern his people simply because of who his mother is/the color of his skin. It's something he is passionate about and he definitely puts up a lot of fights in the current day about it, refusing to be fully silenced by his government. But in the end, there are still a lot of things that are restricted for him because of this.
He's a fighter until the end. He always has been. Even when he knows he might lose, he has always fought and he continues to do so. No matter what the attitude is towards him, he will always be firm about knowing he deserves more. No matter how Europe has treated him, he perseveres. He's a resilient character and that is such a core aspect to the way I write him.
Until his last breath, he will fight to prove everyone that has looked down on him wrong.

Alright since I’ve got time before my last class for the day, I’m going to talk about Romano.
I’ve definitely changed up my interpretation over the years and molded him into something more than what canon gave, so I’d say at this point he’s an OC. But regardless, I just want to talk about him as a character with pride.
Lorenzo has a lot of things he has to work through and a lot of trauma that he just refuses to address. It’s for this reason that he always sees himself as a victim even when he’s in the wrong but also why he’s so stubborn and insists that he’s right.
It’s not like he hasn’t had his fair share of mistakes or misconceptions.
But his pride is such an important aspect to his character.
He lacks a self-esteem, yes, but he has an incredible sense of pride in who he is and what he believes in. However, this isn’t always a good thing. Sometimes it means that you can get into arguments with him and he will refuse to admit that he is wrong about whatever the subject was.
It also means that he struggles so ask for help. He thinks that he’s already seen as someone incapable of taking care of himself and as a result he struggles to admit that there are times when he could use a helping hand. It’s much easier to pretend that everything is fine and seem like he has it together even when he clearly does not.
Lorenzo likes to feel like he is completely capable of managing the world on his own when it comes to his relations with other nations, especially with his siblings. You will never catch him admitting to his siblings that he needs help. He’d rather die.
But the thing is most people know he needs help sometimes, he just really is too prideful to let anyone in too much.
That is until it comes to the people that live around him. Then suddenly he is willing to do anything, he’s a part of a community, and he’s more than happy to accept the helping hand. You’ll catch him exchanging goods with the neighbors or letting the kids help him pick fruit. He seems so much happier.
A big part of that is that his pride comes from being so defensive over not being considered a real nation. He doesn’t get to do the work his brother does and is left to do physical labor and get his hands dirty. His contributions are little if any at all and it’s not because he doesn’t want to but that he isn’t permitted to.
He lets the humans in because they don’t pass the same judgement onto him and there isn’t pity from them that he feels like he gets from other nations. He’s allowed to be Lorenzo who owns chickens and makes peach jam and cookies. He is Lorenzo who always has a smile on his face and who is more than happy to join in a party and dance with the local people.
The pictures of him smiling and letting his guard down are all in environments where he doesn’t feel he has to put up a facade in order to be accepted or not seen as a mistake of some sort.
Would he be less prideful if he had more of a role in his nation? Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe his pride would come from some different source. It’s difficult to tell. But what is certain is that he is a complicated person with so many layers and barriers and getting to see those glimpses of when he isn’t rough and angry is something special.
Prideful Lorenzo getting to be human too.

Cumano Thoughts
I sent this into a discord server and decided the world needs to see my thoughts about these two because I love them
Okay so as far as nationverse goes, they met in the late 19th century shortly before Romano was set to work for America. In my personal headcanons, he knew he would have to go to America eventually but wanted to put it off for as long as possible. This led to him hopping around Latin America for a few years. But his time with Cuba ended up sticking out to him the most.
His arrival was during a very rough period for Cuba though so the two of them were meeting in extremely vulnerable states. Romano coming from a lot of tension, rejection, and failure in Europe and Elian actively getting his independence from Spain.
Despite the fact that he did come from a low spot, he still had an attitude that made him come off extremely entitled when they met and Cuba was *not* having it. The first part of their relationship with each other was really rough because Lorenzo was trying to prove he wasn't like the rest of Europe and Elian being extremely skeptical.
They do end up bonding though and theres a lot that they see in each other that really builds their relationship. One of the biggest things being how they view masculinity in themselves and each other. I headcanon Romano to be trans and to have struggled a lot in the 18th and 19th centuries when it came to his masculinity and how he defined it. And as for Elian, he struggles a lot with having a healthy relationship with masculinity due to the strict gender roles and expectations the Spanish brought with them that stuck around. Neither of them viewed themselves as where they wanted to be when it came to their masculinity.
The funny thing is though, they admired the others masculinity as it was. Elian thought it admirable for Lorenzo to be in touch with a more emotional and sensitive side of himself and being willing to be open to habits that a lot of people would have deemed feminine at the time. He saw someone who knew who he was and wasn't restricted by rigid definitions of gender and he wanted that for himself.
As for Lorenzo, he saw strength in Elian like no other. He saw someone that was proud and kept himself together and represented the type of man that his people needed to represent them. He looked at Elian and saw the ideal masculine in him. To him, Cuba was someone that couldn't be robbed of his masculinity because he seemed so sure of himself and his identity.
This ends up being one of the biggest things that starts their bond. Them seeing more in each other than they saw in themselves. Having someone see more to them than what they feared the most. And it really created that environment for them to bond over other things and open up to each other about more things that they typically kept under wraps

As a kid, she loved playing in the mud more than anything else
She is a butch lesbian to the bone
