au where two people meet at a hotel because there are two conventions going on. one is a very shitty anime convention (the kind of local one where someone is still showing up in 2023 with yaoi paddles, u know). one is an academic convention for some incredibly niche subject that every postgrad in the field attends (because it is the only one in the country, and you have to for networking) and it's really dull and noone actually WANTS to be there by day two.

rodimus is pretending he's there for the shitty anime convention because he does not want the incredibly fit DILF he's been irritating at the hotel bar every night to think he's a fucking nerd. he continues this farce even when the guy says HE'S at the academic convention because like. rodimus is the only person in the world embarrassed by NOT dropping out of university. also the guy might think he shouldn't sleep with rodimus because 'it's a small field' and 'that always gets awkward' or WHATEVER people always say, ugh.

megatron's lying. he's tabling at the anime convention selling smut because it's how he makes ends meet these days after he struggled to get a job after... some things in his personal life a while ago. don't uh. don't worry about it. anyway he's not fucking TELLING the guy trying to cruise him at the bar that, even if he is ALSO here for the anime convention, he is not gonna be known as the guy who hooked up at fucking YaoiCon 2023 in the middle of bumfuck nowhere or whatever, NOPE.

Kinda amused by bibliosphere's tags (she said they were previous's but I clicked to prev and didn't see them)

because I attended a panel at Yaoicon way back when run by a gay men's health organization in San Francisco with the intent of telling slash authors (predominantly female then, and probably still now) about safe gay male sex because too many people in the US aren't taught that porn and fanfic is not how sex actually goes and it was a big enough concern for them that they wanted to try and fix it by talking to the fic writers.

Also, as a fun aside, in ye olde day of the golden age of webcomics, Uncle Echi even did a comic about unsafe and unrealistic gay sex in fanfic by having his gay human character rant about how people would get hurt doing that in real life (to his gay tentacle monster boyfriend, who pointed out dude was still wanking to it despite being horrified at the inaccuracy).

Anyways, the author notes these days are a really great way of telling who is and isn't at least 30yrs of age. Because over 30s are always like "I tagged for adult content and squicks, done" and under 30s are always writing authors notes that are completely unhinged apologies for not wrapping everything in bubble wrap to protect babies.
