What the plot wants you to see is this selfless sacrifice of forfeiting your happiness for the sake of your beloveds happiness, but all I can see is misery, ESPECIALLY towards your beloved. You'll be in some so self-satisfying heroism world of "I gave up my loved one for his own happiness", but your beloved? They'll be thinking they weren't enough. Often ex-lovers are involved, so they'll believe they are easily replaceable. They weren't worth fighting for. They weren't worth communicating to, to find a middle ground. They will be constantly living in the worst thoughts of themselves, because you decided to give up. All their self-esteem issues will be confirmed. There is nothing more hurtful than that.

alastor: okay, so, i find a fair amount of people who assume i'm "shy" about sex. as a topic.

alastor: but even if i was -- if i was raised by someone who wasn't my mother, someone puritanical and whatnot -- this isn't mutually exclusive with being on the asexual spectrum.

angel: i know you're not shy about it, because you were joking around with us last night talking about watersports for like two hours.

alastor: (laughing) just-- i'm just saying, i don't watch porn, i never will--

angel: especially not that type of porn.

alastor: especially! but i still need to know, how many hospital visits? how much money do they have to spend on clothing and linens that they'll inevitably have to throw out? and upholstery? entire pieces of furniture?

angel: i mean, i could tell you right now easily, from experience. and i stay hydrated regularly, so i've never been to the hospital for--
