Phantasm-Round 2
Author’s Note: A playlist to listen to while you read this because self control is not a thing I have. Each song relates to a part of the round!
(Chicken Boy is a nickname for Gakusa Oh)
Tumblr media
(Image: Aerial of Taiyuu’s island, angle of the train coming in)
The end of the weekend brings the close Lana’s home visit. How Dinara almost managed to set the kitchen on fire for a third time is beyond her. Really, the sheer amount of chaos that happened in two days dumbfounds her.
A thin, wispy mist sits over the island, giving everything a hazy sort of screen. She was supposed to be back at 7, the night before, but a storm had the train delayed til the early morning hours. From her window, she can see the damp campus grounds, dull greys in the out-of-focus weather.
The car is basically empty; Fujinuma and Spellman being the only other occupants of it. No one tries to make small talk; Fujinuma is nodding off in her sleep, and Spellman is scribbling something in her journal. There’s a stagnant, but peaceful atmosphere, much like the feeling the storm has left behind. As the train eases into the station, it stops with a quiet hiss and doors slide open.
“Mind the gap when stepping onto the platform. Mind the gap when stepping onto the platform. Mind the gap when stepping onto-” The automatic voice reminds her.
“Have a good weekend, Ogura?” Spellman’s voice rings from above as her classmate is currently a whopping two and a half meters.
“My aunt almost burrned aparrtment komplex down,” she deadpans as they leave the station.
“Sounds fun.”
“No.”
Spellman laughs, bumping Lana with her shoulder as they reach the dorms. In the common room they part, with Lana continuing up the stairs to her room while Spellman stops to talk with Masaki.
There is a grand total of half an hour to get ready for school this morning. No run, just a quick shower, breakfast, and Lana is off for the academic buildings.
Tumblr media
(Image: Wolfsboon, 1-B Homeroom teacher)
Wolfsboon looks about as thrilled to see 1-B as he was the first week. Kottoba and Chicken Boy “help” by having an insult battle (awful choice on Chicken Boy’s part, really). After they both get detention for the foreseeable future, announcements begin. “Today will be your first official heroics class,” he bites out, glaring at the whispering class. Once the room is silent, he continues. “Don’t disappoint me.”
“Yes sir!”
Wolfsboon narrows his eyes for a fraction of a second, lips slightly jerking into what someone might call a smile. The expression is gone the next moment, as he moves on to who didn’t do their homework-Chicken Boy, who else?-and who would be washing the classroom because of it.
By the time Heroics rolls in, the clouds are threatening another storm. Other students have put on the long sleeved gym uniform, but Lana doesn’t care enough to change, so it is what it is.
Wolfsboon and Aurora spend a few minutes quietly arguing about something before the round is announced.
It seems deceptively simple.
Then the match-ups are announced.
‘Tokei Yameru vs. Ogura Svetlana’
Chicken Boy bumps her. “Have fun, Lanka.”
She replies by smacking him with her tail.
Everyone is sent to their respective side of the field and given ten minutes to prepare.
“Stay in your fields or collaboration zones, and do your best!” Aurora calls.
“Cheaters will be punished,” Wolfsboon adds.
She elbows him after she thinks the kids are out of sight.
Tumblr media
(Image: Claws out; let’s go.)
Lana’s ten minutes are spent warming up. Tokei isn’t a person she’s very familiar with. They’re tall, quiet, and have some sort of time quirk that’s touch activated. Avoiding their hands is a given, but without knowledge of how long their quirk lasts, or if it has any disadvantages, she may as well being going in blind.
Dammit. She should’ve asked Chicken Boy when she had the chance.
The buzzer goes off and Lana descends on the city ground. She keeps to rooftops for the best view, hopping between buildings in purple puffs.
Below her, there’s a large flash with a white braid flying behind it.
Tokei.
Whatever they’re using their quirk for, it’s making them fast.
Her eyes catch on the glowing white circle in their arms.
Tumblr media
(Image: Tokei Yameru running with the orb.)
Shit.
Lana appears in the street connecting to Tokei’s.
She just has to touch the orb and make it back to the goal.
Tokei turns the corner and Lana pounces.
With their advanced speed, the surprise doesn’t phase Tokei for long. Lana manages to knock the orb loose, but fighting Tokei for it is another problem.
Tumblr media
(Image: Tokei’s quirk activates)
Lana tackles them, teleporting in several different directions within the span of a few seconds. She’s about to hop back as the orb falls, before a hand plants itself firmly on her arm.
Her limbs feel as if she’s trying to swim through a pool of syrup. Tokei stumbles back before regaining their balance and scoops the orb up. They take off in a different direction, not as quickly as before.
A minute later, the quirk cuts out and Lana hits the ground in a roll.
Tokei’s footsteps are fading. They don’t seem to be speeding themselves up anymore. That gives her more time.
It’s back to the rooftops; Lana takes longer jumps to get to Tokei’s goal-line first. It’ll take too long to find them, so cutting them off is the best Lana can do.
She drops at the goal line, just after an intersection with many dark alleyways.
Lana pauses, ears twtiching, before she straightens. “I know you’rre therre, Chicken Boy.”
Tumblr media
(Image: Talking to Gakusa)
“You’re no fun, Lanka. And you’re on the wrong side.”
Lana huffs. “I know. What arre you doing?”
“Well, this is the collab zone, and I figured I come see my very best and conveniently useful friend-”
Lana shoots him a glare. “Get to the point.”
Chicken Boy rolls his eyes, a teasing smirk on his lips. “So mean to me. Anyway, what are you doing down here?”
“Waiting forr Tokei.” “Lost them already?”
She huffs.
“I’ll take that as a yes. You know they’re-” He squints at something to the far left. “-definitely not going the right way.”
Lana raises an eyebrow. “Rreally?”
“ ‘s what I said, isn’t it? They’re running toward your line.”
They must’ve gotten turned around after the confrontation.
I can work with this.
“Uh oh. Is my Lanka, God forbid, thinking?” Chicken Boy flicks her forehead. “I’m so proud. I could cry. Getting emotional just thinking about it-”
She smacks his hand away. “I hate you.”
He sticks his tongue out. “No you don’t. Whatcha gonna do?”
“I’m going to need coverr if I want orrb.”
Chicken Boy snorts. “Kemuri’s across the field. Maybe he’ll make you your own cloud wonderland so you can look even scarier.”
She swats him again.
There’s a dramatic gasp. “Slain by my very dear Lanka....whatever shall I do?” After the theatrics wrap up, Chicken Boy straightens. “I got a round to finish. See ya.” He snaps his fingers and then disappears down an alley.
Lana glances in the direction Tokei is in and then teleports into the next collaboration zone. Kemuri is drifting above the cityscape on a cloud, likely searching for his opponent.
“Kemurri. I need favourr.”
Tumblr media
(Image: Talking to Kemuri)
The cloud drifts down to a rooftop. “What is it, Svetlana-san?” Despite the response, there are notes of resignation in what little is visible of his face.
“Could you put cloud coverr overr the field?”
“Why?”
“I need to catch Tokei.”
The boy pauses a moment before nodding. “Alright.”
Tumblr media
(Image: Aerial, cloudy field)
The field, having already been a bit foggy, is now dense with clouds.
Lana turns back to him, ears twitching slightly. “Someone is in that building.” She indicates a tall shopfront a few streets away.
Kemuri raises an eyebrow, eyes sharper and posture taut like a bowstring. “Thank you.”
They both nod and return to their separate fields.
With the thick clouds dashing any hope of seeing Tokei on ground level, Lana stays to only the highest buildings, scanning for movement. Halfway to her goal, she sees the familiar glow of the orb radiating through the canopy of white billows.
Found you.
She drops down to the street.
Tumblr media
(Image: Lana in the shadows)
Tokei’s looming figure staggers by, looking disoriented and dizzy.
Perfect.
She darts behind them. Tokei spins around, squinted eyes illuminated not by their quirk, but by the dull light of the orb. Lana lingers in the shadows of an alley, watching their posture shift to defensive. They tighten their grip on the orb and proceed with caution.
There’s a rock at her feet. Lana picks it up, hurls it at a window, and watches Tokei leap to face it. “Ogura-kun-?”
While they’re distracted, she comes up behind them, and swipes them off their feet with her tail.
They struggle to their feet, but Lana rams into them from behind, knocking the orb loose.
The second time they go down, Lana makes a beeline for the orb, scooping it up. She casts a quick glance over her shoulder.
Tokei’s arm shoots out, eyes beaming with signs of quirk use, all five fingers extended. They reach out-
Tumblr media
(Image: Tokei slows the orb down.)
-and touch the orb, missing Lana in a purple cloud of smoke.
Tumblr media
(Image: “You missed”)
It’s only a minute before Tokei realizes their mistake, but a minute is all Lana needs.
She behind them again this time, except this time, there is no chance to get back up.
Tokei hits the ground hard, head spinning.
Lana steps over them and closes the distance between her and the goal in three short jumps.
And as it had began, it’s over just as quickly.
“Lanaaaaaaa-chan!”
Between the short notice, and the fact that she’s exhausted, Lana has no time to dodge as Tokachi barrels into her, wrapping her in a hug.
The wind leaves her lungs, but she manages to stay standing. “Hello Tokachi.”
“Is your round over now? Did you win?”
“Yes.”
“Me too!” Tokachi lightly punches her in the arm. “Was it hard?”
“Harrderr than I thought.”
“Yeah. Tokei-kun is really strong. Do you think Gakutorii-ni will win?”
Lana gives her a look. “He’s a twig.”
“Lanaaa-chan! Don’t be mean!” There’s a pause before Tokachi starts laughing, serious expression cracking. “He is.”
“Wow. Nice to know how loved I am,” Chicken Boy deadpans. “Really, go on, guys. It’s very flattering.”
“Gakutori-nii! Did you win?”
“Of course I did-”
“Ameko-chan! I won!” Yukino pops up.
Tokachi gives Chicken Boy an amused look and pushes him aside. “That’s great Yukino-chan!”
The boy grumbles about his loss while the two 1-A students chat. “You lost the bet,” Lana says.
“Yeah, yea, I know-”
In the distance, there’s a deep rumble followed by a loud ‘boom’.
Silence sweeps the group.
“Was that a fucking building?”
“Lana-chan! Nowo cursing!”
And then it begins to rain, just as it had been threatening to do all day.
Of course.

Round One: Hiyasu Shimokizu vs. Senshi Yasashii
@taiyuu-high-oct
it’s later than i wanted but it’s done and i think i like it we’ll see in like three days i guess
They’d been sent off to change into their gym uniforms with little other instruction, but even glancing at the shorts told Shimokizu that she couldn’t wear them. She tugged at her sleeve, and put them back.
For whatever they were going to do, her uniform pants would have to suffice.
Tugging at her sleeves again, she ventured out of the locker rooms, trying to watch everything at once and avoid being spotted by her teacher.
Aurora-sensei seemed to be nice, but she was breaking the rules. There was no changing that. She would be in trouble.
“Hiyasu! Why are you wearing your uniform pants? They’re going to get dirty, you know.”
Shimokizu yelped as Aurora noticed her almost immediately, and tried to duck behind Yacchan, except they weren’t nearby, so she couldn’t. She had to face whatever punishment Aurora had head on. “U-um… I can’t… I’ll be too cold if I… um, with shorts. Sorry…”
“Oh, alright. I’ll see what I can do about getting you some gym pants for your uniform. Why didn’t you say something sooner?”
“I didn’t… I didn’t think, I’m sorry, sensei…”
“No need to be sorry! We’ll take care of it, okay kiddo?”
Shimokizu nodded. “Thank you, sensei.”
Aurora smiled broadly at her, then went over to stand next to Wolfsboon.
She tugged her sleeve, confused but grateful at the lack of punishment. “Stupid, stupid… breaking the rules on the first day…” she mumbled, wishing she could just curl up and disappear.
“We’ll be going in the order you see here!” Aurora said cheerfully as she explained their upcoming sparring sessions. She indicated a board that had a list of thirteen pairs of 1-A and 1-B students.
She was ninth, against Yasashii Senshi. Yameru was seventh, against Fuji Hotaru.
Two fights in, however, she was getting nervous. “Everyone is so good… I’m nowhere near their level…”
“You need to have more faith in yourself, Mocchan.”
She jumped at the sudden voice, but relaxed at its familiarity. “Y-yacchan…”
“Do your best and you’ll be fine.”
She nodded, grabbing Yameru’s hand. “Okay.”
After that, she watched each fight with rapt attention, gathering every small bit of information she could from each fight, about her classmates’ fighting styles, quirks, and even touches of their personalities.
She didn’t know a thing about her opponent, aside from their name. She didn’t even know which of the students was Yasashii Senshi, though the options narrowed slowly as 1-B students were ruled out by process of elimination. A spectrum of colors filled out the space as she learned more about each person, some colors drew her in, others grated at her.
She could almost get excited about pinpointing each of her classmates’ exact shades, what colors went well with theirs.
“Mocchan, it’s my turn,” Yameru said quietly, and Shimokizu quickly let them go, embarrassed.
“G-good luck Yacchan!” she said, louder than she meant to, later than she wanted to. She knew she was blushing, and buried her face behind handfuls of her hair. “S-sorry…”
No matter how many times she watched Yameru fight, she was always enraptured. The way she could sometimes watch a move in so much more detail and sometimes she could barely see what was happening… there wasn’t anything else she could watch that could possibly compare.
There were only six students remaining that could still be her opponent. The five others she’d seen in her class. As Yameru fought, Shimokizu nervously looked over the students from 1-B. She was slowly associating names to faces, but she was sure she’d forget at least half of them by the next day.
Yameru was exhausted when they stepped back to stand next to Shimokizu. She tilted her head just enough to tap into their arm, to show her support without being a distraction to anyone else, and they patted her head.
“Alright! You’re up, Hiyasu Shimokizu!” Aurora called, as Wolfsboon called for her opponent. “Good luck!”
“Good luck, Mocchan,” Yameru said, quieter than she had been.
She was wringing her hands as she walked to the ring. There, she faced her opponent, Senshi Yasashii.
Still, she bowed. “T-to a good fight, S-senshi-san.”
They bowed back, quiet, though there was something that might be disappointment in their eyes.
She shifted her feet, shuffling a bit in the sand. She glanced Senshi over, gathering what she could before the fight started and figuring how low the temperature could go safely, given the factors at play. It wouldn’t be long, and as long as she limited the range… no, it would distract her too much.
While she was thinking, Senshi took the opening and made the first move. They swung towards her with their staff, and Shimokizu took that as an invitation to start the fight. She slid under the swiping attack, sliding her stance wider and ducking down. The force ruffled her hair, carefully pulled tight into a ponytail, some strands catching and being tugged along with the weapon. She held carefully to her quirk so she didn’t go too low or too sudden and hurt anyone. Dropping would hurt everyone, and it wouldn’t be a fair fight.
“I won’t be losing this fight.”
Shimokizu blinked, catching a follow-up blow. “Wh- does i-it matter th-that much?” She pushed the staff away with all her strength, then rushed in close.
“Are you serious?” They caught her jab, but the following kick connected, separating them as Senshi leapt away from the strike. “Of course it matters. I can’t be… weak.”
Shimokizu scrunched her nose in confusion, but followed Senshi to keep herself close enough that their hand to hand would continue. “I-it’s j-just a… j-just pra-practice…” She saw that the chill was getting to Senshi; they retracted their staff and shifted away from her again, though not without attempting a quick punch that she easily dodged. “J-just a de-dem-demons...” She huffed in frustration, the chill closing words from her again. Stupid, stupid… words shouldn’t stick in her throat just because of her own stupid quirk…
They were about evenly matched at hand to hand, which meant keeping close was to her advantage. Shimokizu winced as her opponent struck her sharply in her right side, then responded by kicking at Senshi’s shin. “Just practice…? Is th-this a joke to you?” She ducked under a particularly harsh and fast blow and surged upward, only to be pushed back by a quick shove before she could make any hit, skidding slightly and almost wavering in her footing. She regained her balance quickly, the lack of traction of her boots being compensated for with a small twist of her ankle.
She frowned, slipping the temperature downward a bit faster. The fight was dragging on too long and she was getting close to becoming too cold to stay focused. “I-I t-take ever-every fight s-s-seriously. I-it wou… would b-be r-rude n-not to.”
Likely noticing the increase of her quirk usage, Senshi rushed her. She didn’t catch the nature of the feint until it was too late, and jumped back, wincing in pain from the solid punch to the stomach she’d received.
In the moments she was recovering her focus and barings, Senshi had grabbed their bag, and flung the first thing they’d grabbed from it at her.
Pencils scattered across the field at her feet, and she nearly missed adjusting her footing so that she didn’t step on them. Suddenly distinctly more conscious of her ill-suited, though warm, footwear, she kicked the pencils out of her way, then froze when she shifted her focus away from the ground and  noticed the water bottle in her opponent’s hands.
Then she cursed herself for freezing, because there was no reason to suspect that she had any adversion to water except from her reaction, so stupid, SO STUPID you can’t make mistakes like this and she skittered back, trying to avoid the splash of water as best she could.
She didn’t succeed in that endeavor. The water made her sweater itchy against her skin, weighed her hair down differently than it was before, and, worst of all, worsened her chill. She gasped from the shock and lost her grip of control on her quirk, the temperature dropping suddenly further down. She allowed herself to ignore it, even though she swore she heard someone gasp and something snap, instead watching for Senshi’s following move.
It was a good thing she did, since they had been just about to shove her the last few feet out of bounds with their staff. She pulled herself to the side, slipping a bit on the balls of her feet and just barely dodging the weapon’s path.
Before they could retract the staff, Shimokizu grabbed it, then dug her heels into the ground, praying that her footing would hold. “S-sorry,” she said, then twisted, forcing her grip to hold through shaking hands and quivering arms, and somehow, some way, used the staff to swing Senshi out of bounds.
The whistle blew, but Shimokizu had already stepped out after Senshi, extending her hand. “Y-you… you’re a g-good f-fighter.”  Stupid, stupid… stutter! Just say the words, you know how to say them, it’s not this hard!
Senshi stared at her. She tried to smile kindly, but it no doubt fell short. Wavering and uncertain, like always, be better, you idiot!
They took her hand, and shook it. “Tha-thank you.”
“I-I a-almost th-thou-ought y-you h-had m-me! I-I-I wa-was s-sure y-you g-got me w-with th-the w-water… Y-you w-were at th-the a-adv…adva…” She wrapped her arms around herself. “S-sorry…”
“H-how cold… are you?”
“A-ah, I’ll…” She sneezed. ‘’M f-fine.”
“Hiyasu, you’ll get sick if you keep that soaked sweater on. Go ahead and change back into your regular uniform.” Aurora smiled at her, warm, kind, and wide.
“A-ah, th-thank y-y… th-thank yo-ou s-sen-sensei!” Shimokizu bowed quickly, then hurried off.
“If she can’t ask for what she needs, she can’t succeed as a hero.”
“Shush, Kuzu. Give her time.”

@taiyuu-high-oct Round 2's bonus event: "First cooking attempt on dorms."
It was a quiet morning. Hiraku had just come back from his morning jog and nobody seemed to be up. This was a problem, as he was starting to feel a little hungry. He shrugged and just decided to make himself some toast. How hard could it be, anyway?
Hiraku started by taking two pieces of bread out of the pantry. Then he took the butter out of the fridge. He was doing pretty good so far. Then he decided to rub the stick of butter on the bread. He was confused as to why it was so hard, and he certainly didn't get why there were so many crumbs on the butter. That didn't happen when his mom made toast! He shrugged and put the bread in the toaster. It took a few minutes, but he figured out that he was supposed to push the knob on the side down.
The entire toaster immediately set on fire.
"HOW DOES THAT EVEN WORK!?" Hiraku screamed as he dropped the toaster. He shook out his hands before firing a stream of CO2 at the toaster until it was just a burnt wreck.
"What the hell did you just do, Inoue-kun!?" Tokei-kun shouted. It looked like they came into the room when he was distracted putting out the toaster.
"I don't even know!" Hiraku defended. "I was just trying to make toast!"
Tokei-kun facepalmed. "Is this why you don't ever cook?"
Hiraku nodded.
They sighed. "Right, I'll make you something, just don't touch anything else. In fact, why don't you get out of the kitchen?"
Hiraku shrugged. "Fair enough."

Yameru: I just heard Yasashii shouting, “DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE MY ROOMBA IS” and then two minutes later, more quietly, “Aww, poor roomba, how’d you get stuck there sweetie.”

Taiyuu High Round One: Fuji Hotaru VS Tokei Yameru
Hotaru isn’t very intimidated by Wolfsboon. She probably should be since this her teacher who most likely won’t hesitate to expel her, and he’s clearly trying very hard to intimidate, but she still isn’t intimidated. He has flowers in his hair, which she finds adorable. Also didn’t Wolfsboon have a quirk that made a dog made out of flowers and plants? More adorable.
She shakes her head, she has to focus. She’s going up against one of the kids in class 1A, someone named Tokei Yameru. She had yet to find them and get a read on them unfortunately and it was almost time for their match. Arakan and Fujimoto were finishing up their fight right at that moment, with a loud, “WE HAVE A WINNER!”
“Alright, next up-Tokei Yameru versus Fuji Hotaru!” Lackadaisy was clearly very into all the battles that were happening. Hotaru was as well honestly. She liked watching her classmates quirks in action and seeing them fighting. It also helped that it would help her in the future.
She stepped up to the platform. Her classmates were cheering for her, even though she was pretty sure that most of them didn’t even know her. She looked at the crowd and noticed that Kiru was grinning at her and giving her a thumbs up. She didn’t blush, but it was nice to see that Kiru believed in her.
Hotaru finally got a good look at Tokei who she had didn’t remember seeing at the entrance exam, who was a dark skinned person with long, floating, white hair. Interesting. Maybe they had a quirk to do with their hair? She’ll probably have to focus on shielding herself then, until she can get close.
Neither of them said anything. Seemed both of them weren’t the talkative type.
“GO!” Lackadaisy yelled, and Hotaru was off, creating a small shield of solid lava on her left side and making a solid lava baton in her right hand.
Her opponent was also off, although they weren’t doing anything with their hair. Hotaru had seen a good amount of hair related quirks both on heroes and villains. They tended to stand in place and let their hair do the work, or they used their hair to better maneuver. Hotaru could make an educated guess then that this wasn’t a person with a hair related quirk.
Hotaru threw her shield away aiming at her opponent. When you can make shields as fast as her they become more disposable, and besides, with the throw she could see how Tokei would react, and probably see their quirk.
Luckily they didn’t just dodge. Tokei grabbed the shield in the air before darting forward even faster. The shield that they had caught was now flying through the air in slow motion. Which was pretty cool. ‘So that’s their quirk huh?’ She thought.
Tokei made to punch her face so Hotaru created half of some facial armor and was barely pushed away. Tokei seemed to recoil from the pain of the punch and Hotaru took the opportunity to knock her baton into Tokei’s side. Tokei was knocked off their feet for a second before they were back on their feet and ran in close once more.
‘Can’t let them come in close,’ she thought, as she created armor over her forearm and used that to block Tokei while she knocked them off their feet again by sweeping their legs with her baton. Hotaru sidestepped and crouched low, waiting for them to get back up again.
They did, and darted forward once more. Hotaru had a plan however. She let them get in close, and just as they were about to crouch down to be at her level she darted upward with her hand splayed in front of Tokei’s face and let out a blast of lava right in it.
The lava was hot enough that it would sting like a bitch, but would be able to be fixed in a jiffy by the school nurse. It temporarily blinded Tokei though, which was what Hotaru needed. She gaved some quick swings with her baton and some punches with solid lava over her knuckles for more oomph.
Tokei fell back out of bounds while still trying to shake and get rid of the lava from her face.
“TOKEI IS OUT OF BOUNDS! FUJI IS THE WINNER!” Class 1B cheered as Hotaru brushed a hand through her hair. She kneeled down in front of Tokei and put her hand to their face.
“I’m not going to hurt you, I’m just going to take the lava away.” As she said this Hotaru reabsorbed the lava into her arm. Tokei gasped and took tried to blink to see again.
“I’ll take you to the nurse’s office, if that’s okay.” Hotaru held her hand out to help Tokei back up to her feet.
Tokei took her hand.

“B - bondage-san, reporting in.”
“This is Takakutou--”
“I’m sorry, who?”
“Now You See Me Now You Don’t is right, we have to use the code names!!”
There was a silence on the other end, followed by a heavy sigh.
“...Holey Cow, reporting in.”
-----------------------
A week before, Ameko had been sitting in homeroom with the rest of 1A. It was a little energetic in the classroom, which had intimidated Ameko at first, but the careful excitement of 1A was quickly starting to grow on her. She appreciated the way that Lyrie-chan had a habit of lowering her volume when it got too loud for Ameko, and how it was becoming second nature for the person closest to Hiyasu-chan to put their arm around her when she seemed too cold.
Ameko leaned against Lyrie-chan as the class chatted, feeling the warmth of her part-horse body taking over the coolness of Hiyasu-chan beside her.
“Hey, guys!”
Ameko’s voice carried over the others, and they all looked over at her, finishing up conversations and turning over in their spots; in a chair, or sitting on a desk, or enjoying the giant cuddle-pile that had collected around Ameko.
“What’s up, Tokachi-kun?”
Inoue-chan raised an eyebrow and rested his chin on his hand. Ameko straightened in her spot, letting her hands flitt around her as she spoke.
“We should have a secret comuni-ni-nation device!” Ameko declared. Inoue-chan paused for a second, before clarifying in a smooth, calm voice, “Communication device?”
“Yes! That!”
“How would we even do something like that?” Takakutou-chan snorted, rolling her eyes. It was, of course, to be expected of the grumpy girl who never seemed to care much for being a team player. The entire class gave each other a knowing, amused glance.
“Like - like a walkie-talkie or something!” Ameko continued, “For when we’re doing training stuff.”
“That’s actually not a bad idea.” Inoue-chan mused. “If we had the knowledge to do something like that, anyway.”
“We probably could,” Spoke up a boy in the back. He was a transfer student, and had arrived that day in the train station alongside another late arrival, Otsuka-chan.
“We can?” Ameko lit up.
“Yeah. I could make some headsets and connect the transmission to some AM radio waves; if we all hit the same channel, we can talk to each other. They won’t hit a terribly long distance, and anyone with another radio can listen in, but they’ll work.”
Ameko hopped up, her hair bouncing with her and a grin on her face. “You’re so super smart! Haaah, what’s your name again?”
“Funkee, Zeke.”
Ameko blinked a few times.
“Fu… foon-kee…?” She scrunched up her nose.
“You can call me Zeke, if it’s easier for you.”
Ameko blushed, shaking her head. “That’d be really embarrassing. I could--” Her voice lowered, “--do you mind being called Kisai-kun?”
“Talented? Why?”
“Because - because you’re making the radios!” Ameko bounced on her heels, feeling her quirk threatening to burst. “And if we have radios, we gotta have codenames!”
There was a bubbling excitement in the class as they all huddled together, paper in hand…
-----------------------
Fast forward to a week later, and their first hero lesson had started. Ameko quickly learned her field was connected to Inoue-chan, Gigi-san, Takakutou-chan, and the newest transfer, Sugiyama-chan. She had caught her just before they split up, handing her a headset and collecting a code name.
She stood on the edge of a dilapidated city, looking at the aged buildings and the almost peaceful atmosphere. It would have been just Ameko, if her ears couldn’t pick up the faint chatter of her classmates. The overhead speaker boomed an excited set of instructions from Kyokkou-sensei, interrupted every so often by a mildly-irritated Kuzu-sensei.
“Ready!”
Ameko crouched down, letting her foot skid slightly on the ground, gripping the concrete under her.
“Set!”
Her hand brushed the dust-covered surface. Breath in. Breath out.
“Go!”
The dust stirred as Ameko took off, and the familiar feeling of jumping high, so high, gave her a quick rush of excitement. When she was hopping, it almost felt like flying. Ameko felt like she was making good progress when --
“Shit!”
Ameko skidded to a stop when she saw one of her other classmates, Gigi-san, sprinting towards the goal. Behind them, an empty trash can that had sprout legs -- their quirk, Ameko knew -- was running along at a frankly impressive pace. A glob of lava flung out at the trash can, melting it and leaving the orb rolling away.
Right at Ameko.
“Bondage-san--” Ameko blushed as she spoke into the headset. “--how fast can you run?”
“Pretty fast,” They replied, “Why?”
“I can kick the ball towards the goal, but you gotta catch it before it goes over.”
“I have an idea.” Gigi-san sprinted towards the sidewalk, finding a bench and touching it. Their quirk made it come to life, and like an animal, pranced anxiously as Gigi-san climbed on. “Go.”
Ameko kicked the ball, and Gigi-san hurtled after it, their opponent struggling to catch up. Without much hesitation, Ameko kept hopping towards her goal, and after a few minutes the radio crackled to life with a relieved, “Thanks, Hop To It.”
Ameko spotted the shining from a window a few buildings ahead, and slowed down, slipping into the doorway with quiet focus. The building was run down, but maybe not as much as some of the others, because it was clearly sturdy. Dust coated the floor in a very thin layer, and the air had a heaviness that made Ameko’s breath hitch the wrong way. There were a lot of floors; Ameko figured at least five. With the winding rooms and nooks and crannies, it felt like hours (although in actuality, she had only been searching maybe five minutes) as she shifted boxes and climbed staircases.
She tried to listen for her opponent, but she heard nothing.
Although it would be lying to say that Ameko knew all of the kids in 1B well -- She had classes with them, but besides the people that she had gotten close with, she was much more focused with the familiar, family-like feeling of her own class. But Ameko had run into quite a few, and she could recognize a lot of them.
Ameko had known Seisei-chan since the exam, and she had a pretty solid grasp on his quirk. She had gotten used to the way that he popped out of existence when he was startled, the way his heartbeat was a bit too slow whenever she went in to hug him. She knew that Seisei-chan was slow; maybe not to the average person, but definitely to someone who’s quirk was good with speed.
Ameko really liked Seisei-chan. Some might even say that she loved him; that, of course, would depend on whether you believed love could even be accomplished after two weeks of school. But Ameko was also here for a reason. She was here to grow, to be a good hero, and Seisei-chan was too.
If she didn’t try her best, even though she liked him, then she wasn’t being nice to either of them.
“Hop To It, this is Now You See Me Now You Don’t, reporting in.”
“What’s up?” Ameko whispered, opening one of the doors and poking her head in.
“You’re fighting the purple ghost kid, right?”
“Yeah?” Nothing. Close the door, rush down the hallway, look in another door.
“He’s running towards the goal with the orb.”
Ameko stopped. For a split second, she’s confused. She would have definitely heard someone come in; footsteps, breathing, little huffs and puffs and bumping around that, although not much, was enough for someone with sensitive ears.
Unless, of course, he was invisible. And he couldn’t be touched -- or touch the things around him.
Ameko cursed a soft, “Sweets and sugar,” as she opened the window and launched herself out. “Where?”
“I’m bad with directions,” Sugiyama-chan admitted on the other end. After a beat of silence, Yukino-chan piped up, “You’re looking for Seishin-kun, right, Hop To It?”
“Yeah, I am.”
“He’s nearby!” Yukino-chan assured. “Go three blocks East and two South, and he’ll be there.”
This was, of course, something that the class had considered before the match; because of Yukino-chan’s quirk being like a person detector, she could easily direct people towards any targets. In preparation, they had all made sure to have compasses on hand. Ameko had to thank Tokei-kun for that idea.
“Thanks a ton!” Ameko called out, and started sprinting in the direction.
Seisei-chan was floating, fast but not as fast as Ameko. He saw her coming, and when she went to tackle him, he floated up and out of her grasp.
Ameko rolled on the ground and popped back up, her feet skidding on the ground. Seisei-chan floated further down, eyeing her with apprehension.
“Sorry, Tokachi-chan.”
Ameko lurched forward again, and again, he flew back. Ameko quickly realized that this wasn’t going to work.
Ameko had remembered the days afterschool in her backyard, in the makeshift training ground, trying to knock Gakutori-nii off of his feet. She’d try the same lunge. She remembered his slightly amused tone when he told her that it wasn’t a good idea -- Ameko would get tired a lot quicker than Gakutori-nii would. She bit the inside of her cheek and thought.
Ameko’s quirk buzzed with energy waiting to be used. When Seisei-chan took a floating step towards his side of the goal, Ameko knew what she was going to do.
When Ameko was little, she used hopscotch to try and control her quirk. She tried to stay in the squares by doing little jumps, because otherwise, she could hurt herself. Her quirk was one that she loved, but it was dangerous, too.
Patience. Self control. Ameko tapped her foot on the ground and lunged, aiming higher. This was no problem for Seisei-chan; he ducked lower, instead.
That was his mistake.
She shifted her attack to kick his side, and he cried out in alarm, the ball rolling out of his arms and down the street. Ameko was fast; she scrambled, grabbing the orb and breaking into a run towards her goal. Seisei-chan floated after her at a speed that was actually a little startling for Ameko; she was faster, but if she made one wrong move, he’d catch up in no time.
Ameko heard it before it was going to happen. She could hear most of her classmates’ fights from the headset, but Takakutou-chan’s boisterous, “We’ll see how you like this building, Tall Girl.”
A building.
“Holey Cow, this is Hop To It, reporting in. Did you say you’re going to bring a building down?”
“I sure as hell am! Why do you care, Bunny Girl?” Takakutou-chan spat into the mic, followed by a grunt from what Ameko assumed was her battle.
“Where are you? What’s your 20? I need to slow my opponent down.” Ameko ducked into an alleyway to her left, ran, then hopped a street over. The orb was cradled in her hands like a child.
Takakutou-chan laughed haughtily. “Saving your ass, am I? I’m on the building on the corner -- it’s the one next to the burger shop.”
Ameko clicked her tongue, and on her next hop, spotted it a few minutes away. “I need you to hold off on that building. Can you do that?”
“Of course I can! What, you think I’m in trouble? I’m already winning the--” Takakutou-chan shrieked, and there was a crash, “--I’ve got Tall Girl under control!”
“Great.” Ameko waited, and once she passed the building, she shouted a loud, “Now!”
A lot of things happened at once. Behind Ameko, there was a rumbling, and the building Takakutou-chan described started toppling in on itself without the weight of the chunk she punched out. Ameko looked back, but kept going, and stumbled over the finish line orb in hand. Her chest heaved, and she slumped against a tree, the orb rolling at her feet.
Ameko heard the call of, “Tokachi Ameko wins!”, but she was more focused on the sweet, satisfying taste of her candy.
After the exercise and a shower, the bed Ameko rested on wasn’t her own. She closed her eyes, soaking in the quiet of a soundproofed room and the vibes -- the cool breeze of a fall night, brushing your cheeks and enveloping you in a refreshing embrace. She could feel the slow, steady rise and fall of breathing from the person she was laying on.
Underneath her, Lana-chan let out a gruff oof as Gakutori-nii flopped on top of the two girls. “So, 1-A had radios, eh? Who’s idea wassit -- Bird knock-off?”
Ameko grunted as she went to twist, looking up at her best friend and his dumb, smug smile. She stuck her tongue out in return, blowing a raspberry.
“It was my idea!” She bragged.
He snorted, ruffling her hair roughly. “Not too bad, Amenee.”
Ameko couldn’t help the smile that infected her entire being.

Name: Tokei Yameru
Background: When they were little, they encountered a villain with poor control over their quirk. Nobody could do anything to get close, and heros had to focus on saving civilians from the damage the quirk was causing. Yameru and their mother were going to be hit by a piece of collateral, but Yameru used their quirk to exhaustion with the bits of time they stored here and there, slowing the hunk of rubble down enough to give enough time for the heroes to wack it away. They passed out, but when they awoke they were told by the heroes on the scene that they could make it as a hero if they tried. They've been motivated ever since, in order to save people from the same fate their mother and them almost had.
Quirk: Time Theft- user can slow or speed time up on an object, depending on amount of time stored. Slowing time stores(steals) it, and speeding time depletes users stores. Can only speed time so much before user runs out. Easier to use on non living things. Can only be used on three objects or one living being at entrance exam time. Overuse can cause headaches, muscle cramping, and blurry vision, impeding ability to fight drastically.
Personality:
Power: 3/5
Speed: 2/5
Technique: 4/5
Intelligence: 3/5
Cooperativeness: 2/5
+ Very dedicated, once set on something there's little chance of stopping them
- Too stubborn sometimes, can't drop a project or goal even if it's bad for their health or it isn't productive
+ Stoic, has subtle tells that are hard to read at first glance, and can be misconstrued as apathetic, when they really just don't emote well
- Very blunt, picked it up from their mother, who never held back things or sugarcoated it for them.
- Because of this, often hurts people's feelings, sometimes on accident sometimes on purpose.
(To be added to later?)

After Shock | Sukoru v Yameru
To think we were doing this again. Even after what happened.
The events that transpired a few moments before ran through my mind. The attack, the alarm, all the screaming, the escape through the tunnels all leading to here. It still did not feel believable. I mean, why would someone attack the school?! Was it a grudge or to send a message? Or maybe they were after something? I thought back to the usj incident that happened about 16 years ago, I wasn’t even born yet. Could the same thing be happening again? Well it didn’t matter, because the school wasn’t stopping for nothing.
After talking it over with the strange tired man called “Eraser”, we were apparently still fighting. And to be honest, I was pissed. I mean we just got out of a disaster and you want us to start back up again!? My last two losses and the attack that just happened made me lose focus, but I wasn’t about to give up. I looked down at my paper to see who I was sparring with.
“Tokei Yameru” I said to myself
Everyone was putting on their hero costumes, but I decided to keep mines off. I wanted to do a fair match, plus I didn’t think I would need the extra help do to us being in a small room and my quirk could be pretty destructive at max capacity. Apparently, my opponent thought the same way because they also weren’t wearing their costume.
We both stood staring at each other on opposite sides of the mat.
“So, you’re a humble one huh?” my opponent asked
I quirked an eyebrow in confusion before looking down and realizing what they were referring to.
“o-oh, uh, no I just didn’t really think I needed a costume y’know?” I responded sheepishly, scratching my hair.
“… so, you think your quirk can beat me without enhancements?” they responded nonchalantly
“what!? No, I just-” I started explaining before being cut off by a whistle. That means we were starting.
I gulped and looked back at the kid. I learned my lesson from my last two losses and decided to do research on my “enemy” before hand but to no avail. I read the file on their quirk but still could not properly understand how it worked. All I knew is that I had something to do with time. Time. Such a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. For now, all I could do is keep my distance. Luckily, I’m a master at that.
The albino teen and I circled around each other, blocking out all surroundings and focusing only on each other.
“I’ve heard about you ‘cloud girl’” Tokei began “Lyrimon told me about you.” They finished.
“Well if you know so much,” I began “then you should expect this!” I yelled, turning my arms into tornadoes a blowing wind at them. I wasn’t sure how we were supposed to win, but I assumed we had to get the other opponent out of bounds, knock them out, or get them to surrender. But I knew the last option wasn’t gonna happen. Tokei dodged the wind easily and began running towards me. I moved out of the way, continuing to blow my gusts of wind at them. They put their hands over their face and stood their ground. I pointed my winds towards the ground to try and get their feet. The mat stayed still but pieces of the floorboard came loose and broke away. I quickly stopped to avoid breaking anything. Yameru however smirked and started touching the broken planks before they hit the ground. They seemed to slow down, keeping them from touching the ground. Before I could process what was happening, tokei tapped their shoes and came rushing at me at a much faster pace then before. They touched my shoulders. I was going to push them away, but I was slow. Very slow, too slow, for I was going to slow motion. It was at this moment that I realized I heavily didn’t understand their quirk.
Tokei took their hands off my shoulders and looked at me, looking a little tired. They picked me up and started to carry me out of bounds. In a last stitch attempt to break free, I turned myself into a full bolt of electricity. While slow, the volt eventually got to them and made them drop me in the shock (pun not intended). In the panic, I kicked them over and flew away. My energy was wearing thin with that full transformation stunt. And with tokei still speedy, I had to think of a plan fast. And one came to me, though I wasn’t sure if it was going to work, but I had to try.
As soon as tokei got up I started bombarding them with hail pieces. They smacked away each of them, slowing each piece down. It was kinda of pretty seeing the small pieces fall in slow motion. But with a good number of pieces slowed down, I stopped and returned to the ground. Once they could see properly, Yameru bent down and touched their shoes again which began giving off a slight illumination. They stared straight at me and I looked back. Before anyone could process it, they ran right towards me. They reached out to grab me but
                      Poof
I turned my entire body to cloud, and they ran right through me, falling onto the planks. Their top speed making it hard to stop once they started running.
A whistle sounded ahead “Tokei Yameru is out of bounds, Sukoru wins” buckskin spoke
“walk off the mat, we have another set of kids coming” Eraser said somewhat glaring at me. He must’ve been upset about the floorboards. The two adults walked away talking and I looked at tokei who was still on the ground.
“uh, good spar?” I said nervously reaching out my hand to them.
“using my own quirk against me.” They said avoiding eye contact with me.
They grabbed my hand and yanked me to the floor. I fell next to them.
“not bad, but im winning the next one!” they said smiling at me.
We both started laughing on the floor uncontrollably. Having a good laugh with another kid made me forget about all my losses and the attack. For I couldn’t care less right now.  ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

Love Live! Lyrics: blueberry ♥ train (ぶる~べりぃ♥とれいん) [Kotori Minami solo]
English translation and romanization below the cut.
ENGLISH
The berry berry train is taking off Sweet and sour...
Mirror mirror, tell me Please, make me extraordinarily cute
Girls all worry about it Being fashionable’s their number one priority
Do I put it on? Take it off? I spin around Do I look good with this ribbon in my hair?
Nooo! I’m gonna be late Oh no! I dash all the way to the station I’m gonna show up to our very first date saying ‘sorry’? Nooo! I can’t do that Oh no! Hurry up, train! My feelings of worry are a sour blueberry ♥ train
Clock, forgive me Won’t you please stop moving for just a little while?
It’s every girl’s excuse It’s unavoidable if you wanna be pretty
Do I open it? Leave it closed? I fiddle With the button on my chest over and over again
I really thought it through Now’s not the time for reflection It’d be the worst thing ever to keep you waiting on the date we planned out! I really can’t make up my mind After some reflection, have I messed everything up? I hope you’re late too    blueberry ♥ train
