Chapter 10: Saying Goodbye
The day you left Japan proved to be just as warm as the day you arrived. You sat cross-legged on the sidewalk in front of your grandmother’s house with the sun beating down on your head. Despite multiple assurances that she would invite you back soon, being inside with your grandmother just made you feel sad. Unfortunately, coming outside didn’t make much of a difference, aside from there being no air conditioning.
Beside you was a small pile of luggage, on top of which sat the stuffed animal Takeshi had won you. You did your best not to sneak looks at it while you waited for a taxi to pull up and whisk you away to the airport. The events of the early morning still hadn’t disappeared entirely from your memory, and every time you glanced at Chinatsu, you felt your throat tighten up.
“Hey.”
You looked up. Takeshi stood against the cloudless blue sky. He had his hands in his pockets and his eyebrows furrowed. After a moment or two of you both looking wordlessly at each other, you patted the curb next to you.
“Hey,” you said as he stook a seat. “I thought you had summer school today.”
“I snuck out.”
“Don’t do that. Hayato will yell at you. Besides, I don’t want you to get in trouble.”
“I’ll deal with Gokudera later,” he said. “I didn’t want you to leave without saying goodbye.”
“Didn’t we do that last night?”
”Well…” He rubbed the back of his head. You were relieved to see that his smile had returned. “I wanted it to be official. When’s the car coming?”
“It should be here in about ten minutes.”
“The summer went by really fast, didn’t it?”
“It did. I’m really glad Grandma locked me out of the house that day.”
“Me too. It’s been a lot of fun.”
“Yeah. Tell Tsuna and Hayato bye for me, will you? And tell Hayato he’s an ass.”
Takeshi wrapped his arm around your shoulders and tugged you closer to his side. “I’ll try.”
“If you have to pick one, remember to tell Hayato he’s an ass.”
“I will. Promise.”
“Good.”
You turned eye him speculatively. Slowly, you reached out to touch his cheek. Before you could chicken out, you closed your eyes and kissed him. This one was not over quite as quickly as the last. Only the sound of a car pulling up next to you forced you and Takeshi to spring apart. Cheeks hotter than the air around you, you jumped to your feet.
Takeshi got up just as quickly, hands already around your luggage straps before you could get there yourself. He loaded them quietly into the back of the cab. It took everything you had to stand back, chew on your lip, and squash down the sadness rising up inside your chest. After all, you’d known from the very beginning you would be going back home at the end of the summer. Crying over it now seemed monumentally stupid.
A soft weight on your shoulder made you jump again. But it was only Takeshi’s hand resting there before he said, “Everything’s ready to go.”
"Thanks,” you said weakly.
You took a step in the direction of the back car door. Before you could open it, Takeshi reached forward and silently handed you Chinatsu. Your mouth opened and closed several times. There were so many things, most silly, that you wanted to stay. When you finally found your voice again, you said:
“Well...” You blinked and tried to get rid of the tears you felt pooling in your eyes. “Bye, Takeshi. I…I…”
“Yeah. Me, too.”
You shook you head. You were quite determined to say this, even though you felt even more monumentally stupid to be saying it at the age of fifteen in a country you might never see again. “I love you.”
Takeshi’s grin widened considerably. “I love you, too.”
The smile you gave him was a tad watery, but at least it was a smile. You opened your mouth to say more, but were interrupted by the front door slamming. Both you and Takeshi looked around to see your grandmother striding up the walk, smirking.
“What’s with all the water works?” she asked.
“I’m leaving, Grandma.”
“And that means tears?”
Your eyes darted toward Takeshi.
Your grandmother smiled knowingly. “You’ll be back soon, so no crying.” She lifted her arms and, sniffling, you hugged her. She hugged you back, then released you to push you back toward the car. “Now get going. You don’t want to miss your plane.”
“Actually…”
“All right. Your father doesn’t want you to miss your plane. So get going.”
You swallowed. Voice gone, all you could do next was nod. Takeshi squeezed your hand as you passed, and you forced a smile at him before clambering into the car. As it began to pull away from the curb, you rolled down the window, stuck your head outside, wrenched an arm out with you, and wave wildly at the rapidly shrinking pair.
“Goodbye! I’ll miss you!”
“Bye, [Name]!” Takeshi shouted back.
“Goodbye, honey! Don’t worry! I’ll keep your boyfriend warm for you!”
You laughed as you withdrew back into the taxi.
“Soon,” you promised your reflection in the glass. “I’ll be back soon.
******
As your grandmother watched the car drive you away, she shook her head.        “I really don’t understand this entire charade.”
“Eh? Charade?” Takeshi asked, brown eyes wide.
“Oh, you’re still here?” She looked Takeshi up and down. “What? You still worried about [Name]? Well, don’t be.”
“Why not?”
“Because I meant what I said. She’ll be back soon.”
“I thought she had to go back home for school.”
“She’ll be back soon.”
“For her winter break?”
Your grandmother smiled a knowing smile as she took his wrist and patted his hand. “Maybe sooner than you think.”
“What do you–”
“Well, there are still discussions to be had, but I do believe that you’ll be seeing our little [Name] well before winter.”
“But–”
“Now, why are you still standing here? Don’t you have school to get to, young man?” She lifted an eyebrow. Takeshi’ss expression slowly transformed from confusion to one of pure wonder. “Really, kid. Get back to school.”
He nodded as he turned in the direction of Namimori. “Goodbye, Ms.[Last Name]!”
“Bye, Takeshi. And see you again real soon!”

Oh heyyy, a new request blog! Do you have any Yamamoto nsfw headcanons?
omg Yamamoto is such a sweet angel how could I ever... NSFW UNDER THE CUT LOLOL
nsfw Yamamoto Takeshi HCs
These are pertaining the big yamamoto.. like, 1.85m tall big tyl Takeshi (unf)
1000% without a doubt in my mind, he is a dom, no ifs ands or buts
If his partner insisted that they top, he would be open to it and try it out but I don't think he would last long out of control like that... he'd definitely flip the switch on them reeaaal fast, and before they can even deny him the pleasure of doing so
It's his way or the highway, he likes being in charge but he's a service top at heart and would be so so attentive to his partner's needs (and they'd be one lucky mf oml)
I may be projecting but what 6'1 dom doesn't have a size kink
Nasty thoughts just kind of end up dropping by in Takeshi's brain when he's interacting with someone he likes?
One moment he's admiring their beauty, another moment he's imagining them under him, letting out delicious squeals and whines all for him
and it flusters him to no end, he just malfunctions!!!
Anyway though he looves getting handsy and pinning them down, holding their legs open and watching them squirm
Would whisper dirty praises about how cute they are and how well they take it, UGHHH
The look in his eyes drive them absolutely crazy, those beautiful brown eyes are just so deep and expressive and when things are heating up he looks at them with such intensity that they don't know what to do with themselves
except maybe give him exactly what he wants
He also has very impressive stamina, so hold onto your butts besties
He is kinda possessive (more than his cheerful demeanor will let on) There's no doubt that he would have gotten more mature about it over time, but he would look at you with such satisfaction after leaving all kinds of love bites and bruises on your body
He'll make sure that you aren't in pain from them though!!!
Will not hesitate to carry his partner to the bathroom afterwards to run a bath, or to bring them snacks and their favorite drink, and give endless cuddles and soft kisses until they fall asleep in his arms
Please treat this man well oml he has a very well conditioned body but he tends to overexert himself, so he would practically melt if given a nice massage
Just loves physical contact and the feeling of his partner's hands running over his skin, rubbing out all the knots and soreness
Then he will rail em into next week lolol gl explaining to your friends bc he will definitely leave you sore and marked up bc you're his hehehe xox

I wasn't sure if you wanted these to be written in second person, so I did a mix if that's alright !! <3

Oikawa Cheating Part 2
The fact that I received three notifications during school asking for a part two of the Oikawa cheating fanfiction I wrote is insane. I am beyond grateful for you guys feeding my ego, I was smiling so much my cheeks hurt. But, here you go, a part two.
Here is link one if you need : https://jessicaowo1.tumblr.com/post/642518031709487104/oikawa-cheating
Warning: Jealous Oikawa, angst, fluff
Paring: Kuroo x reader, (oikawa ex)
Word Count: 1086
Author’s Note: Okay so the last fanfiction was written a month ago, I am now used to second-person point of view so sorry about the inconsistency.
Kuroo and you have been dating for a little bit now, from where the story last picked off. Since you and he were two hours away from each other, your dates consisted of late-night phone calls where one of you would fall asleep due to exhaustion (aka Kuroo). As for school, everything was ok. You gained a lot of confidence and it showed. You weren’t just someone in class, you were the person people would ask for help and people actually decided to be your friend. By the way, that friend that dragged you to the party self-proclaimed herself as the reason you got a boyfriend and gained confidence. As for Oikawa, unannounced to you, he broke up with the underclassmen and dated again and again.
A few days ago on a late-night face time with Kuroo, he says that he will be able to see you next week because of a practice match with Karasuno. You were excited because you got to see your boyfriend after a bit. He said he wouldn’t be able to spend a lot of time with you because he had to leave with the team but, you told him it was fine and that you would watch his practice match. Then he teased you for being his little cheerleading kitten.
Today was one day before the practice match. You and your friend decided to go together. She had a particular crush on Kageyama (we all have one who has a crush on him).  After your class bell rings dismissing you, your friend texts you to meet by the boy's volleyball gym because she had to pick up a notebook Mattsukawa borrowed for math. As you waited for your friend, you felt someone grab your waist and you yelped. The mysterious person bent to your ear and whispered, “You must be made of uranium and iodine because all I can see is U and I together.” You began to cackle, you remember that voice, you turn around and saw your giant chemistry nerd boyfriend Kuroo standing right behind you.
You tacked him with a hug and kissed him on the cheek. You began to explain how he scared the crap out of you and how the hell was he here and not in school. He explained it was because the practice game was going to be two days since the team wanted to get better. He said he had a few hours to kill before he had to play so he decided to surprise you, he asked your friend to set you in a position where he could meet you.
Then your friend came out pushing you two so-called “love birds” (friend’s words) to go on a date. As you and Kuroo began to make your way out of school discussing what to do for a date, some girls got wind of your boyfriend. They began to surround him and asking questions. You grabbed his hand, nervous of crowds. Kuroo being the nerd he was very nervous and began to scratch his hair. That's when a certain setter began to realize the commotion.
He walked up to the crowd only to see you and Kuroo holding hands. He was wondering why was a city boy here in Miyagi out of all places. He remembers Kuroo from the party where he saw you laughing. Then he saw his new girl fangirling over Kuroo, his blood boiled in jealousy. He went over there and tapped the shoulder of his girlfriend but, she didn’t notice.
You on the other hand did, you saw the rage in his eyes, and in fear of Kuroo dying before your date, you tapped his shoulder asking if you guys could leave. Kuroo saw the unusual mannerisms you were portraying and saw the reason, Oikawa. He grabbed your hand and said sorry to the crowd he attracted, he had a date with his kitten after all. You blushed profusely, he really had to use the term kitten.
Both of you walked out of the school leaving Oikawa in shock and being yelled at by Iwaizumi for being late for practice. He realized how beautiful you used to look when you were flustered at little things, he realized how much of an idiot he was for letting you leave him. During his practice he was messing up on basic things, getting a volleyball thrown at him from time to time. He vowed to talk to you after practice.
You on the other hand were at a cat cafe ironically out of all places doing homework with Kuroo. You helped him in English while he played flirted with you. After homework and some coffee, both of you played with cats. He became jealous of you paying more to a black cat rather than him. But, he couldn’t be mad at you, you looked so cute and he began to take pictures of you. He got a few before the flash was turned on, you became flustered again and he began to say how cute his kitten looked.
Both of you left the cat cafe and began walking to Karasuno. You felt a disruption in the air when you were walking. Kuroo then saw his teammates and grabbed you to introduce his significant other. You saw a few of them from the party such as Kenma but, you meet the underclassmen such as Lev. Yamamoto began to complain about how a rooster head got such deity. Kuroo came a little overprotective after that.
As the team began to walk into the gymnasium you felt a pair of eyes watching you but, you ignore it as your boyfriend whispered in your ear if I win, you owe me a kiss and dinner. It was Oikawa Toru, his heartbreaking seeing you smile with another person. He realized he lost all chance being with you. It hurts more to lose you, a breakup that could have been avoided than losing to Ushiwaka.

too much of a good thing
Tumblr media
pairing: Suna Rintarou x Reader
summary: It felt like he was in a dream, a hazy, realistic dream.
Lucid dreams, was it?
It felt like he was in a lucid dream.
Because he knows that the life he has now is too good to be true.
Having her with him, together with him, is too much of a good thing in his life.
Crazy how he had to carry all of five years to love this woman one-sidedly, only to have her return his feelings - albeit, slowly - and take his heart for hers in exchange.
Equivalent exchange, was it?
Everyday since she said yes, though, he wonders if he's doing everything right. Is he treating her right? Is she comfortable with him? Is he loving her right? Can she feel how much he's loved her?And more importantly, is she falling for him?
One look.
It'll take just one look into her eyes.
She'll look into his eyes, (e/c) eyes bright and clear, and all worries would fade away.
genre: romance, smut, fluff
author’s notes: I I blame my horny readers at Tumblr. And me, the idiot for falling to their whims. Also, because the idea came to me hard. Hmm
This is a direct sequel to outsider looking in which is part of a series. You or may not read the series, but it's important that you read the mentioned fic before reading this. Otherwise, you'd be lost and confused.
Also, um, what I wrote here is from a smut piece I wrote when I was 16 and I was so in love with Yamamoto Takeshi from Katekyo Hitman Reborn. However, I did write new bits here and there. But wow, reading your past work (that never got published because I was too shy to even share my works, let alone my OC) but awed at my writing.
Also, so much was heavily rewritten because I wrote horny teenagers, Suna and Reader are young adults here. Lastly, please don’t judge me I was so awed, weirded, amazed, yet shocked at how much I had written when I was younger. I faintly remember blushing the whole time I wrote it out. Also, what really fueled me to write this was Frank Ocean’s ‘Ivy’ and then, 'StikwitU' by Pussycat Dolls. Oh, another song that could help, especially for the last part is ‘Somebody to Love’ by Queen.
Shoutout to the amazing anons who wrote drabbles for OLI! The last scene is dedicated to you guys :”>
also available on ao3.
DISCLAIMER: I own nothing but the plot.
It felt like he was in a dream, a hazy, realistic dream.

She'll look into his eyes, (e/c) eyes bright and clear, and all worries would fade away.
Now, he would be lying if he said that today was making him nervous - real nervous. Because, after long, tedious weeks of training, school work, whatever life throws at them, they finally have a day to themselves. For a date. A real date. Not those casual dates where they'd eat at the nearest convenience store or fast-food restaurant, which she'd frown heavily at (because of the selection of food that is high in salt), straight after practice. No.
This time, after four painstaking months, they had a free weekend.
Suna did not waste any opportunity to ask her out on a date.
Thing was, he was nervous.
Nervous as fuck.
Because this was his first love he was talking about, (L/N) (Y/N), the woman he's been in love with since he was 16!
In a fit of panic, he approached Murase-san, of all people, the best dating spot in Hiroshima, seeing as she's a native of the area. Boy did the woman give the smuggest look, eyes teasing, happily egging on the poor boy. Eventually, she told about Shukkeien Garden, Hiroshima Castle, Hijiyama Park, Hiroshima Museum of Art, excluding the Peace Park out since he's mentioned that they've already visited the place for their class trip back in high school.
Komori, unintentionally hearing and seeing the way his teammate seemed out of it, gave some helpful tips.
"Just be yourself, man!" he grinned. "And have fun!"
Washio quickly shushed him, seeing (Y/N) and Murase-san enter the gymnasium. The latter met his gaze, winked playfully.
"Good luck man," Washio patted his shoulder.
Tumblr media
Saturday was the day.
Sun was out and bright, skies were blue, the weather overall was generally favorable. So much so that the city was bustling.
Busy for a weekend.
Weekenders probably making the most out of it, like they were.
Deep breaths, he thought to himself, deep breaths.
First, Suna picked her up at the station so they could go to the heart of Hiroshima.
Throughout the ride, Suna was plagued with thoughts, safely tucking her to his side on the train and off it. Side by side, they walked down the busy city with all the weekenders around them and the occasional tourist here and there.
Anxiety roused him at every time, supremely conscious that this was finally happening, that she was finally here with him, all this was happening right now.
What did Komori say again? Be yourself and have fun? Easier said than done.
Something takes hold of his hand, smaller, gentler. He looks down, meeting (e/c), breath hitching at how the sun shines down at her.
"Are you alright?"
Swallowing, he nods.
Cocking her head, sunlight glinting off from her pearl studs and piercing, she looks unconvinced. "Are you sure?" she squeezes their hands, expression softens to worry.
Four months dating. That was something.
After years of pining after her, years of yearning, here they were now.
He remembered telling her that he's loved her since he was 16, remember how she sweetly came up to him, wrapped her arms around him, kissed his chest, and stared at him with all the love in the world. She was the only person who knew what it was like to be in unrequited love, except his was well-hidden and hers was harshly thrown out. Remembered how she was the first one to hold his hand in hers, uncaring how clammy and calloused they were from a day of practice. Remembered the first time he met her all those years ago as an outsider in Hyogo.
Feeling himself relax, he squeezed her hand back, smiling truly.
"I am now,"
Things like this can't be rushed, it takes time - painstakingly long or short. But hey, he was willing.
Baby steps, he reminds himself.
He flicks his eyes towards her and smiles, mirroring her own expression, her own happiness.
Tucking her aside, letting people freely walk past them, he allows himself to bask in her glow.
"By the way, I forgot to say this," tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, holding her feels like he's holding her favorite flower "but you look really pretty."
His most precious little sunflower.
Immediately, her face darkened, head ducking to avoid his eyes. Laughing, he chased after her eyes, laughing harder when she was, too.
She was dressed in a buttoned-up dress with sunflower prints, a gift from her family, and sandals. On the other hand, Suna wore a simple long-sleeved buttoned-up, with sleeves folded neatly to his elbows, with some loafers. Picture perfect. How could she not look any perfect?
The rest of their date goes swimmingly well.
He always knew she had a penchant for flowers, remembering her eyes lit up when their bus passed by Ono city, her whole face brightening when their juniors gifted her a bouquet of sunflowers for her birthday and gave her a sunflower frame during their graduation. Basking in silence, the two walked around the Shukkeien Gardens appreciating the flowers all around them, the beautifully structured garden felt as though they had traveled back through time.
More often than not, he found himself reaching for his phone to capture her - something she didn't notice until he told her to walk ahead at the Rainbow bridge. She had blushed profusely before retaliating with her own phone, and the two were having an impromptu photo war.
Eventually, a caretaker saw them and asked if they wanted a photo together, which they did by the pavilion.
Adjacent to the garden was the Hiroshima Art Museum.
Call him a snob, but all the stuff in that place was nothing compared to the woman beside him, who wrapped her arm around his shoulder, telling him bits about the art on display. He'd listen, but wouldn't care about the art, he just liked hearing the sound of her voice.
Together, they left for lunch to Okonomi-mura, where both laughed at how different the okonomiyaki was compared to the one they're used to back in Hyogo.
Each time he turns to her, it feels like he's entered a new dimension and paid witness to a new being, but it was just her. Like a Pokemon, she's evolved, shinier, brighter, newer, and polished.
He's always taught the old her was cute, but this new her? It was beautiful.
To think that people think her a downgrade version of her sister? What a joke.
They've missed out then.
Even then, though, she's had a fair share of admirers - there was that one asshat from Nigawa Gakuin, Kageyama Tobio pleasantly surprised him, especially with the way he stared hard at her, then there was his captain, too, not to mention the twins. Of course, it was obligatory for best friends to think that their best friend was good-looking, especially if you grew up with them. However, whereas Osamu saw her like a sister would, Atsumu stared as though he was seeing a flower bloom for the first time.
Everyone else? They sucked.
But it's okay, at least he has her.
Leaning his head against his palm, her hand in hers over their table, he can't find himself to look away from her.
"You've been staring at me all day."
Mesmerized, taken, just plain awe that he could call her his.
"Is it bothering you?"
"No, it's just..." she stutters out, unable to find herself replying. Suna laughs, lifting her hand to his, pressing a kiss.
"Can't help it. I've been looking forward to this date all week."
When their food arrived, quietly, he heard her reply. "Me, too."
All things considered, it was a good date.
Tumblr media
Without much of a plan on how to end the date – and to be quite honestly, he didn’t want it to end – they ended up at his apartment since it was closest. It was a pretty wide nondescript apartment he's had over two years now, with a lease under his name.
Embarrassingly enough, there really isn’t much to his place yet – just the standard furniture that came with the place. Anything else, to give it a personal touch? Nothing.
Yet, the only thing (Y/N) said after stepping in was that, “It looks comfortable.” And you know what? That’s enough for him, a sort of approval from his girlfriend.
Also, cut him some slack, he isn’t a slob!
On the way to his place, she suggested that she cooked him dinner. When asked what he would like, he blurted out pasta.
Together, they shopped for the ingredients at the supermarket – him, holding the bags, while she selected. She was quite meticulous with her selection, noting with interest how she chose items that were of high quality and reasonably priced.
Reaching the frozen section, Suna couldn’t help himself and grabbed a pack of chuupets.
Imagine, a 191-cm pro-athlete making a dash for frozen fruit jellies.
Suna wasn’t usually ashamed, no, but he remembered who he was with and flushed. (Y/N) laughed, taking the pack from his hands and placing it in with the rest. He brightened at that.
“It is a weekend after all, why not cheat your diet?” he wanted to kiss her so bad. “But you’ll have to make up for it during practice, okay?” he still wants to kiss her. Grueling workouts, laboring hours during practices be damned, it was worth it.
It was only once that he saw her cooking back in high school, with Osamu beside her. In that one instance, he saw a domestic side to her that unsurprisingly fit well for someone like her, doing something so ordinary in an unordinary way.
Right now, it seemed unbelievable that he was seeing the same thing but in his very own kitchen.
A kitchen, which, “…you’ve barely used, I presume?” she says.
Raising his hands in surrender, he did reason out that he does make himself breakfast but that’s about it. He’s lucky that there’s restaurants near the gym all the way to his apartment, he at least has options. Though, he’s not sure (Y/N) would approve of such.
Humming, he drummed his fingers against the countertop. “Perhaps you’d like to make use of it?” he suggests. He gets a frown from her, he shrugs in response. “Worth a shot.”
“Your apartment is 45 minutes away from mine. Plus, my dorm is closer to the university.”
He hums again, leaning on his folded arms, eyes watching her work around the kitchen – having already boiled the pasta, sliced the garlic, peeled the shrimp, and opened the can (Suna helped with last two, thank you very much).
Loneliness was a feeling he rarely wanted to address, especially having a history of moving places for the sake of his dreams, grateful to have such amazing and supportive parents. However, in the process of chasing his dreams, he couldn’t escape the feeling. Honestly, he doesn’t mind it, perfectly content to have his own space.
But now, taking in the sight of his girlfriend freely making use of his kitchen, he didn’t feel so lonely. Having her around was familiar and easy, even if it were her first time in his apartment.
On instinct, he took out his phone, unlocked it, opened the camera app, and snapped a photo. Some photos. (Y/N) was too preoccupied with cooking to even be bothered.
Tapping, the photo comes on screen, he can’t help smiling at how domesticated she looks, how relaxed she was, how familiar the sight of her was in his kitchen, her. Checking his gallery and he was met with even more photos of her, mostly candid, mostly selfies, mostly of their linked hands together.
Suna was half-tempted to upload photos on his SNS, to let the world know of his amazing girlfriend of four months. Instead, he locked his phone and pocketed it away.
As much as he loved her, he just wasn't ready to tell everyone - who wasn't in Hiroshima, about them just yet.
It's not that she's ashamed of her – fuck no, for in fact, he thinks of the world of her! There's no greater joy than to have, to hold her, and call her his.
It's just that, he just wanted to have this – just them, together, before they tell everyone. Something theirs.
Relationships shouldn't always have to be broadcasted, and he would very much want her to be protected by people who would think badly of her, considering that she's his manager and all. Sure, their PR team would have a field day working things out, but all things considered, he just wanted privacy regarding his personal life.
"But we should tell our families though," she tells him over a plate of marinara pasta.
Even she agreed to the notion, having considered the consequences since they started dating.
Nodding, he twists his fork. "Then everyone else?"
"Then everyone else."
He nods at that, taking a bite of his dinner – sweet, sour pasta melting in his tongue.
“You can cryptic about who you’re dating, though.” She suggests, taking a bite out of her shrimp.
“Cryptic?”
“Well, since you’ve been taking a lot of photos of me,” Suna smiles, she continues with a slight shake of her head. “you can use some that don’t have my face or just hide it by putting an emoji over it.”
Reaching his glass, he hums over the idea as he takes a sip. “You don’t mind?”
“I don’t mind,” she confirms.
“Okay then.”
Of all the photos he’s taken from today, he settles for a photo of their linked hands. He shows it to her, for deliberation.
“Where did you take this?”
“Probably when we were in Shukkeien?”
Huffing, she stares at the photo – longingly, adoringly, one more time before giving her approval. “It has a certain aesthetic to it. Mystery, too.”
Suna writes a simple, cryptic caption, shows it to her for approval before uploading it. At the same time, she quickly takes out her phone to inform Murase-san and Sugita-san (head of the team’s PR Department) of Suna’s post. Scarily, the two replied after a few minutes, offering their congratulations and reassurance.
After dinner, Suna unabashedly took out the chuupet excitedly taking one from the packet and handing (Y/N) a piece.
“It’s adorable that you’re this giddy and excited when it comes to chuupets,” she laughs.
He shrugs. “Can’t help it, they’re good!”
“And high in sugar,” she interjects, a brow raised.
“Cheat day, remember?”
Rolling her eyes, the two of them walk off to the living room, chuupets in hand, Suna telling her of the many memories he’s had associated with the sweet, frozen treat, the many flavors he’s tried, loved, and hated, the days he’d eat a whole pack because he wanted to – to which, her expression crumpled, because of the diarrhea he must’ve suffered after that.
“Boo, stop trying to slander chuupets!”
“I’m surprised you know how to use ‘slander’ in a sentence,” she teased, giggling at his narrowed eyes.
“Cut me some slack here, (Y/N).”
“My case still stands: they’re high in sugar, favorite treat of yours or not.”
Suna readied a retaliation, against chicken noodle soup – only to come up short, because damn it, it’s just as delicious as chuupets, just hotter, and healthier comparably.
As though reading his thoughts, (Y/N) shrugged, victorious.
Tossing his empty chuupet packet behind him, he tackles her into a tickle.
She shrieks, unable to escape, falling backwards, laughing all around underneath him.
“R-Riiiiiin!”
Suna continues to tickle her without mercy, laughing himself.
“N-Not…f-fairrrrrrrr!”
Tickling her some more, writhing around, her laughter fills out the room, bringing life to the desolate area he calls his.
Riiiiiin!!!! S-Stop!!!”
Eventually he stops, having mercy on her, letting her catch her breath, face completely flushed from all the laughing. Her laughter’s died down, she’s a bit of a mess from her laughing fit, but to Suna? He swallows down hard.
Suna’s throat dries at the sight of her, his mischievous smile replaced with wonder.
To think that this is the girl that he’s been dreaming of since he was 16, was now his after 5 years of quiet pining.
Never has he seen such a beautiful sight – a flushed, mussed hair, and all smiles, his. All his.
Finally his.
He kissed her, taking her completely by surprise.
She tasted like oranges, sweet, sweet, addicting oranges.
This was by no means their first kiss – that had been a month after they started dating, he had walked her to her university and received a soft peck on the lips. It came out of nowhere – an innocent press, just like this one, but it was everything.
He parted, his gray-yellow eyes hazy meeting her (e/c) equally hazy ones, the laughter from earlier gone, filled only with him.
All she could see was him.
Stunned brought by the kiss, their eyes were searching the other, taking the other in, seeing nobody but each other, losing in the peripherals, the depths of their gaze, their lips tingling, aching.
It was just one kiss.
Yet it was all it took.
Lifting her head, her lips pressed against his. Sitting up, he cradled her head, another hand on her back to guide her, letting her straddle his lap, mouths never separating, the kiss getting more and more heated. It was...amazing. So amazing.
He didn't want the kiss to end, didn’t want this to end.
Something was burning deep inside him, wanting more, seeking more, demanding more.
They parted, for a breath, before he dove for those lips again, swallowing her whimpers. His hands began to run through her body, feeling her shape and curve, drawing her body closer, nearer, canting his hip upwards. (Y/N) squealed.
Blood rushed through his veins like hot lava, high sensations running around him, her scent driving him crazy, a deep carnal pleasure burned inside him ready to take her whole.
Abruptly, he pulled away, panting hard.
"Rin?"
He shook his head, shyly lifting his head to meet hers. Worriedly, she brushed his bangs away.
"I'm sorry."
Smiling, she falls against him, tucking her head on the crook of his shoulder. "I don't mind," pressed up against him, she could feel his heart, thundering wildly, same as hers. She didn't see the way his eyes widened, shocked, but the feel of his heart was telling.
Sliding her hands up, feeling hardened muscles underneath his shirt, fingering at the buttons. "...i-if you want to take me," the notion should scare her, heck, she was shaking! But at the same time, the very idea was intriguing, exciting, igniting something within her. "taste me..." twisting her head, he meets her eyes, swallowing at what clouded over. "all of me."
She wanted nothing more but to unravel, both of them, to each other.
Suna swallowed thickly.
He saw love.
And lust.
God, he loved her.
That feeling came back again, burning hotter than before, fueling his desires, encouraging him, and his carefully kept patience snapped.
Before he could stop himself, he snaked an arms around her waist and lifted her face with his forefinger and thumb and leaned it. The kiss started out slow, and then it suddenly grew fierce as they both leaned in to each other giving more of them.
(Y/N) slowly closed her eyes, wanting to feel his kiss. Suna did the same while running his hands around her, feeling every curve of her small body.
Her lips were warm and soft, relishing more and more, addicting.
He was making her feel good; he knew that when he felt her heartbeat against his chest. And when he slid in his tongue, she moaned sensually. Timidly, she met his tongue and engaged into a slippery battle for dominance. Lungs burning for air, they parted, a string of saliva connecting them, before leaning in again.
He was getting hard at this, but he can’t help it, it felt so good kissing her and for her to kiss him back. He’s always dreamed of this, kissing her.
Pulling her legs around him, bringing her impossibly closer, she felt his hard-on against his pants. She gasped at this, breaking the kiss, gasped again when his lips began to trail down her neck.
“Rin…” she gripped at his hair. She leaned her head back, granting him more access to her neck.
Just hearing her moan his name turned him on, making the blood rise to his face. He left wet trails down her neck, traced her jaw with his lips, nibbled on her collarbone, lapped his tongue on the crook of her neck, left open mouth kisses where her neck and shoulder met, causing (Y/N) to gyrate against him with a moan breaking out of her throat.
Lifting her easily, he stood up, hooking her legs around his hips, before pinning her against the wall. She moaned even more, feeling his hard-on against her panties. Whimpering at the agonizing sensation of him brushing against her.
Hooking her ankles together, (Y/N) dragged Suna’s head up for a kiss. The kiss was slow and deep, it took his breath away.
Suna nibbled at her lower lip; a groan reverberated from her throat.
She gripped a fistful of his hair, the other, running down his body, feeling his strong muscles. He was fit, so very fit.
He, too, had run his hands around her, relishing the feel of her soft skin against his rough fingers. He noticed, as he massaged her hips, that she had bucked her hips against his, as a response to his touch.
Without meaning to, he had unbuttoned the first three buttons of her dress – she looked positively beautiful in it all day, but the damn thing was teasing him, too!
Granting him access to her bosom. (Y/N) bucked once again, a cry breaking out of her mouth. Her grip tightened every time his tongue lapped or nipped against her skin, she was sure he was leaving a mark or two.
Every time he bit or sucked, she would gyrate her hips towards him, causing friction. He groaned every time, and she would respond with a whimper. He was especially hard, and it felt good having him rub on her.
Momentarily, he tore away to have a look at her. She was a sight to behold – unbuttoned top of her dress, exposing her lacey bra, her (h/c) hair tumbled down her shoulders, her face was flushed from the excessive passion, her pinkish lips were swollen, and her eyes, those beautiful (e/c) eyes, were laced with so much emotion – desire, affection, and wanton need. He felt himself harden, felt the fires burn even more.
“R-Rin…” she whispered, reaching out to touch his face.
At the feel of her hand against his cheeks, his eyes fell shut. Retrieving his hands from her hips, he took her hands in his, bringing them to his lips, gently kissing each digit.
(Y/N) felt hot at the sight of this, especially the way his gray-yellow eyes glazed at hers. She smiled gently, making his heart melt.
Seriously, does she have any idea how much she meant to him?
Hooking her arms around his neck, she brought him near, their lips barely touched when she whispered, “I love you, Rintarou.” Before initiating a kiss of her own.
Her lips, those sinfully soft sweet lips, coaxing his, intoxicated him.
How many times has he dreamed of this? Kissing her? More than a million times, maybe. Every time their lips would meet felt like heaven, he didn’t want to stop, just wanted to keep going forever.
They were in his room before they knew it. His lips never left hers, like they could never get enough. It was a wonder how they made it to his room, without breaking anything valuable.
He tore away to unbutton the upper part of her dress down to her belly, straps falling off her shoulders and threatening to slip off her body.
She didn’t have enough time to unbutton his shirt before she found herself falling against her bed, her hair splaying everywhere.
She was definitely a sight to see – all flushed, barely clothed torso, and her skirt showed just a bit of skin.
Down below, his was definitely getting hard that it was hard not to notice. He knew that she knew it.
Suna swooped down, taking her sweet soft lips, teeth occasionally bumping, unable to help the giggles escaping their mouths.
Slowly, with trembling fingers, she started to unbutton his shirt as their kisses deepened. His tongue slipped in again, meeting hers, tangling into a heated battle. It wasn’t long before he began sucking her tongue, to (Y/N), it felt like he was sucking the life out of her. With every unbutton, she felt his firm body against her fingertips, making her wonder how often he works out. Years of athletics have paid off, but he was quite the picky eater from high school until today unless she forced him to eat.
When she reached the last of his button, she tried to have it off him. But because they were drowned into their kiss, the action seemed impossible. She whined, attempting again and again.
Sensing her dilemma, Suna chuckled, kissing her long and hard before he broke from their kiss to sit up, setting to take off his shirt himself.
(Y/N) bit her lip as she watched him strip, her cheeks burning. Everything seemed to move in slow motion, his firm strong body slowly presenting itself. Again, she had to wonder how often does he work out? How many times has she ogled at his body during practices, taking in the sight of her 191-cm pro-athlete boyfriend.
Sitting up, (Y/N) stared at his body. Suna watched her, curiously in turn.
Tentatively, she reached out a hand to touch him. Her fingers splayed against his chest, she heard him groan. Slowly, she runs them down his torso, watching in fascination at the fine contours of his body.
Suna was slightly tan now, thanks to all the sun. His body was smooth, refined, thanks to all the training, she thought as her hand stopped by his navel, her knuckles tickling him.
He didn’t make a move just yet, instead, watched her in heated interest.
She inched closer, their knees touching, and ran her hands to his back. He groaned when he felt the fabric of her bra touching his chest, a delicious feeling ran through his veins when their fleshes touched.
She was hugging him, her hands running down his smooth back. (Y/N) timidly leaned in, pressing her lips against his strong shoulders, and just held him tight. In their warm embrace, did both their hearts come to a calm, their beating synchronizing. Then he felt her slightly tremble, Suna held her back, leaning towards her.
“Do you want this?” he whispered against her ear.
The heat from his voice made her flinch; nevertheless, she didn’t shy away. She gave a single nod as her response.
“Are you sure?” he asked again, despite having come this far, his mouth taking in her earlobe.
(Y/N) gasped, her breath hitching.
“A-Ah, R-Rin-“
“Answer me properly, (Y/N).”
One hand held unto his hips, the other to the back of his neck, playing with the strands of hair, as if encouraging him. Elsewhere, Suna’s hands were busy fondling her.
“Do you want this?” he asked again, hotly against her ear.
Unable to take his own teasing of her, Suna tucked her jaw with his forefinger and thumb, lifting her face to meet his.
“(Y/N)…”
“Yes.” She said breathlessly, instantly. “Take me, Rintarou.”
And that was it.
The ‘go’ signal.
He swooped down, claiming her lips into a searing kiss, landing unto the bed with a soft thud, pinning her hands above her head, settling himself between her legs.
Both of them poured everything into their kiss – the years Suna spent hopelessly pining, (Y/N) opening herself up and realizing how amazing it is to feel loved – making each kiss addicting and impossible to break. It seemed as though they could never tire of each other’s kiss.
Soon enough, Suna’s lips parted from hers. He looked down at her face, her beautiful face.
He caressed it, then leaned down to kiss her temple, her nose, her cheeks, her lips, each kiss, made her adored, loved. Her fingers tangled themselves against his hair as he began kissing her neck and beyond.
She felt his warm pads behind her, reaching for something, soon realizing it to be the clip of her bra. She would’ve helped him, but he seems to have the work done before she could suggest help.
The tips of her buds were already hard before she felt the breeze biting. (Y/N) felt embarrassed, having to show her breasts to him, especially him. She shyly looked up at him, finding an unnamed expression on his face.
His long fingers brushed against the swell of her breasts, making her whine. Her eyes glazed up to him. Carefully, he cupped her breasts, and he can’t help but compare them to marshmallows, seeing how soft they were. (Y/N) whimpered, leaning against him, undeniably liking his touch. The action encouraged him. He bent down and took her breast into his mouth, eliciting a moan from her. With his other hand, he massaged her other breast, giving it the same attention and treatment.
It was too much, she can’t take it anymore. But at the same time, she can’t deny how much she likes this.
Releasing her nipple with a wet pop, he busied himself with the other breast. She whined, feeling pleasurable heat throughout her body.
Accidentally, he bit down, causing (Y/N) to jerk against his body.
“R-Riiiin…” she gasped.
He looked up to her, looking at the pleasure contorting her face. He rather liked it.
Feeling his gaze, she looked down, only to find him trailing his lips downwards, his kisses burning. Her brows furrowed together. Breathlessly, just as she was to wonder what he was doing, a cry broke out her throat when she felt his hands there.
Running around her most intimate, circling around, her breath hitching, feeling his kisses lower.
Oh.
He was going to-
She cried again when he palmed his whole hand over her covered sex.
(Y/N) sure was sensitive, he thought to himself.
Hands resting on her hips, holding her down, massaging the smooth skin while he dragged his nose down towards the apex of her thighs. (Y/N)'s breath sharply hitched just as the tip of his nose pressed against her.
Yep, (Y/N) was sensitive alright, he thought to himself again.
One waft, and he could smell just how turned on she was the whole time, could imagine how wet she was.
Unbuttoning the rest of the buttons, the dress was finally off, he leaned down, his nose brushing against her sex, and smelled her. (Y/N)'s reaction was bucking her hips against his face, he chuckled. Encouraged, he began kissing her thighs towards her hipbones and slowly kissed her there, against the fabric of her panties.
(Y/N) squeezed her eyes shut, yelping out Suna’s name.
Even against the fabric, he was practically eating her up.
He looked up from his spot, finally meeting her equally glazed eyes.
It was as if he was seeking permission.
And because she was so caught up in this wanton need of hers, unfamiliar with the new yet exciting sensation, wanting him to touch her more, she gave a single nod.
Hooking her panties, he slid them off her smooth legs.
Now with everything gone, leaving her completely exposed, was he really eating her up. Devouring, more likely.
She cried out his name, like a litany. Toes curling, back arching, her hands gripped unto the sheets like her life depended on them. His hands met hers, slowly intertwining them together. With every lap of his tongue, her grip on him tightened.
She arched her back up higher, the pleasure building up. Her eyes rolled back, and she could almost see heaven. He seemed to be in a race for something because soon enough, she orgasmed against his mouth, hot drippings against his mouth. And he was there to hungrily lick them off her.
Tiredly, she splayed her arms to her sides, while trying to catch her breathe. Blearily, she cracked one eye open, in time to see Suna unzipping his pants. Both eyes were open in an instant.
She watched as he slipped off his pants and boxers, exposing his manhood.
She gulped down, unable to look away. Her cheeks had never felt hotter.
He was…huge.
Tentatively, she reached a hand to touch, Suna swallowed thickly.
She let out a soft gasp, taking him in her hands.
“Rin, you’re huge.”
He groaned, remembering the many nights he’s dreamed of her saying it, his late-night fantasies, followed by the awkward mornings he nonchalantly played off as he worked extra during practice. Only now, his dream was about to be a reality.
“(Y/N),” he gasped. “t-touch me…”
Never had he imagined that he’d say those words to her.
Neither did he expect to feel her hands on him, taking him whole in her hand, grip gentle. Groaning at the back of his throat, she took it as a cue to stroke him a few times. Experimentally, she twisted her arms, tightening her hold which caused him to suck on a breath, her name coming out like a litany.
Suddenly, she got to her knees and lowered herself to him.
“(Y-Y/N)-“
And then, she took him in her mouth.
Never had he expected her to comply.
Suna let out a deep groan, feeling her hot mouth take him in, watching her lips stretch out around his cock, the sight of her felt like it was fresh out of his late-night fantasies.
It was mesmerizing to watch (Y/N) sucking him, her lips on him, mouth hollowed, her fingers massaging what she can’t fit in her mouth.
She wasn’t kidding when she said he was big, trying her best not to choke on him. Her tongue lapped around his bulbous head, making sure to suck just as hard as he did earlier. At the sound of her name, (e/c) eyes looked up to meet gray-yellow, humming in delight.
Shakily, he reached out to her head, tucking strands away from her face, holding her head back as she bobbed her head. Hisses leaving his mouth as he felt something in him pick up, realizing then that this was probably payback for eating her out earlier.
As much as he wanted to finish in her, he had other plans.
Forcing her mouth off him, letting out a loud, lewd wet ‘pop’, (Y/N) looked up to him, sitting back up and about to ask, when she finds a dark expression on his face – so full of euphoria, hunger.
Embarrassed, she had to look away.
That expression seemed to mirror hers, the wanton need, the desire, only now did she feel shy of her lustrous desires with Suna, and she felt ashamed of herself.
Ashamed and needy. Never had she felt so wanted by someone.
“(Y/N)…” called Suna, in that tone – that worrisome tone.
But she didn’t look up, was too shy to.
The bed creaked, and he was closer, could feel him breathing against her, could feel the heat off him.
Gently, he cupped her face in his hands. “(Y/N)…”
She met his intense gaze, marred with so much emotion.
There was so much – devotion, loyalty, adoration, desire, wanton need, and love. So much love, so, so much. Love, tugged her the most.
It reminded her of the previous months they’ve had together, his impeccable patience, his understanding, his gentle gaze, the look in his eyes after their first kiss, followed by countless others.
Her eyesight blurred, how can she be so selfish? She’s not the only one who wants this, so does he!
“I love you…” she whispered, a silent apology, a silent promise.
He smiled. “I love you too,” he whispered back, accepting her apology, returning her promise.
Carefully, he set her down, like she was made of glass, how she loved him for that. He set his hands on either side of her head, taking deep breathes as he aligned himself to her. He was nervous, too.
Suna looked up to her. This time, she smiled.
Hooking her arms around him, she brought him close, rested his forehead against hers. “Take me, Rin.”
Nervously swallowing, he nodded.
Then he pushes in.
Slowly.
Carefully.
Gently.
A shudder ran down his spine, knocking the air out of him when he was fully inside her. She choked on her breath; tears leaked into her eyes at the pain. Panicked, Suna was quick to kiss them away, cupping her cheeks.
“(Y/N)-“
“G-Go,” she choked, eyes clenched shut.
So he did.
And it felt so fucking good.
Slowly breaking through her walls, filling her with his warmth, he felt her velvety warmth around him. Dizzying and maddening.
He gently rocked in and out of her, finding a rhythm. As the pain subsided, (Y/N) bucked her hips to his, pleading with a whimper, meeting his thrust.
Encouraged, he pulled out and drove back in, wanting to be closer. Closer.
It was fulfillment, it was joy, it was heaven.
Strangled noises escaped their mouths as they moved along, thrust for thrust.
(Y/N) buried herself against the crook of his neck, one hand carded through his sweaty hair, the other on his back to keep herself grounded. Nails digging through his shoulders, his scalp, feeling him deeper and deeper inside him.
Desperately, he sought for her lips, tasting each other before swallowing her cries of pleasure. She swallowed him as her nails ran down his back.
Breaking away from the kiss, he busied himself with her neck as he kept his pace. Underneath him, (Y/N) had bit down on his shoulder from too much pleasure. He hissed, but kept himself going.
He kept up his pace, but not long before he sped up.
Feeling his self-control slip, Suna thinks that he’s gone mad as he drove into her mercilessly, her cries getting louder and louder. Animalistic hunger taking over as her cries fueled him to take her more and more, especially when (Y/N) tugged at his hair, bringing him to her. Against her ear, he whispered sweet nothings as his pace quickened up.
His brows furrowed as he felt himself sink deeper into her walls, feeling her walls against him, practically sucking him in.
Taking her leg, he gave it a quick press before letting it hang against his shoulder, feeling himself hit even deeper. Falling back against the bed, her hands held on to the pillows, toes curling, muscles tightening caught in euphoria.
Such a lovely sight, he thought, bringing himself closer and closer.
Her eyes, he wants to see her eyes.
Leaning his forehead against hers, he sighed her name. “(Y-Y/N)…” he gasped this time, drunk on pleasure. “e-eyes…” he was so drunk on pleasure, struggling to get the words out. “…w-wanna see them.”
Slowly, her eyes peeled opened, brilliant (e/c) glazed with lust and love. For him. All for him.
That’s all he’ll ever need – those (e/c) eyes on him, grounding him right here, in this moment. He allowed this moment for a second, feeling himself choke up from the overwhelming love he’s had for her for so long.
God, he fucking loved her so much.
Letting out a shaky exhale, he allowed himself to breathe, to collect his thoughts, before diving into those inviting lips of hers, pouring everything – every ounce of fear he’s had losing her, every agony of him pining for all those years, every worry he’s had since she agreed to dating him, everything that was everything to show that what he felt for her was sincere, was true.
“Baby,” he called, forehead against hers, vision going blurry from the edges. “open your eyes.”
Brilliant (e/c) eyes opened for him once more, a moan escaping her mouth from him pulsating inside her. “R-Rin-“
“I know, baby, I know. Don’t worry,” he pulled out by the hilt, before driving himself back in, watching her arch her back off his bed. “I’ve got you.”
More than anything, Suna was in cloud nine, in a brand new high because of their union. It’s everything he’s wanted and more.
Pushing her hair back, he smiled down at her fondly, whispering against her lips.
“…I love you so much.”

He woke up to calm.
It felt like one of those mornings.
But this morning was different.
Because the first thing he saw when he woke up was her – (Y/N), flushed and naked, in his arms.
The room was heavily tainted with the smell and heat of sex.
They didn’t know how long they went on, how many times he took her, but one thing’s for sure - the two will never be the same again. And that was a good thing.
Lazily, he smiled.
Inching himself closer to her, he began admiring the sleeping beauty before him. Delighting in the peaceful expression on her usually straight face, admiring her special features that separated her from the rest, the marks decorating her skin – the action was creepy, but he didn’t care.
He enjoyed himself watching the gentle rise and fall of her chest, the soft snores escaping her slightly parted mouth. Really, she was so beautiful. If only she knew.
Gently, he reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, before caressing her. She moved slightly, he worried he might have awakened her. But (Y/N) merely sighed against his touch.
He smiled despite himself.
He looked down again at the sleeping beauty.
She’s been through a lot, heartaches, disappointment, loneliness, and pain. It hurt him to hear everything she’s been through by herself, needing to power through for the sake of her family and friends. This time, he was here. Now, it’s his turn. From the moment she came back to his life, he had sworn to protect her. He would always protect her, no matter what.
He would never let anything bad happen to her, he’d have to die first before that would happen.
He was happy to have protected her.
He was happy just as long as she had that smile on her face.
He was happy when their feelings had been mutual, even under the circumstances.
Very carefully, he reached for his phone from his discarded jeans and took an after sex selfie, taking a few photos of (Y/N), looking like a sweet fallen angel.
His sweet, fallen angel.
Tossing his phone aside, ever so carefully wrapping his arms around her, he closed his eyes, allowed her scent to comfort him as he held her tight.
And now, nothing could part them, not while he was still breathing.
Tumblr media
She felt lightheaded when she woke up.
Blearily, she pealed one eye open, Suna’s chest the first thing she sees.
For a moment, she inwardly panicked, but when she remembered – with a terrible blush – last night’s passion, she came to calm.
She noticed that he had wrapped his arms securely around her, likening to a vine. Also, that they were naked. She blushed tremendously.
Flesh against flesh, how…delicious.
Tentatively, she looked up to him, watching his sleeping figure. He looked child-like, relaxed, peaceful, a very far cry from the Suna now who was a deadpan, sly pro-league athlete.
Lifting her hand from her sheets, she reached out to play with his hair. Chuckling quietly when his expression contorted, really, he sure was a heavy sleeper.
Leaving his hair alone, her fingers trailed down to trace his handsome face, his sharp jaw, until she paused at his lips. Those sinful lips. She felt them on hers, all over her. A tremendous flush crept across her face at the memory.
Inching closer, she rested against her side and watched in curiosity. Using her thumb, she traced his lips, feeling its smoothness against her pads.
Those lips, seemed so inviting.
She remembered those times before, way before they realized the extent of their feelings for each other, how close they were to kissing. Those innocent times, she smiled at the memory.
Drawn by how inviting they were, she couldn’t help herself. But not wanting to disrupt his sleep, she leaned in gently, pressing the lightest of kiss to his lips.
She barely parted, their nose touching, when she whispered, “I love you, Rintarou.”
One minute, she was stealing a kiss from the sleeping man. The next, her lips were captured into, what seemed to be, a lazy morning kiss. She didn’t have time to react as his hand cupped her head and wrapped around her naked waist.
Though taken by surprise, she found herself kissing him back, resting her hands on his strong shoulders.
He chuckled against their kiss.
“Good morning, (Y/N).” He greeted huskily, breathlessly.
Flushed and dazed from their kiss, she greeted back, equally breathless, “Good morning to you too, Rin.”
“How are you?” he asked, rolling their positions, so she was beneath him.
“Fine, happy, contented…” she admitted, rubbing her hands along his arms. “…sore.”
He smirked at the last one.
“Yeah, well…sorry about that.”
“It’s okay,” she whispered, seemingly aware of the renewed burning passion in his eyes.
“We both wanted it, right?” he was but a hairsbreadth away from her, not that she seemed to mind.
“Right,” he whispered as he pecked her cheek, slowly peppering her with kisses along her face, and down her neck.
(Y/N) sighed contentedly, tangling her fingers on his hair.
“How about," she gasped at his light nip "you?”
Sucking on a certain patch of skin, (Y/N) voice broke into a whimper, much to his delight.
“I’m just as happy and contented as you are,”
She smiled. “I’m glad.”
He returned the smile, before lowering to take one of her breasts into his mouth, eliciting a deep moan from her.
Suddenly, someone’s phone rang, and he broke away with a wet pop.
They glanced at each other, her eyes were glazed. (Y/N) set out to search for the phone, but was stopped as Suna took both hands, pinned them to her side, and took her lips in his.
Their fingers intertwined as they kissed, to the sound of the ringing. Parting her mouth to invite his tongue in, deepening the kiss.
Once the ringing stopped, it took a while before they parted.
“It could be important,” she told him, whispering.
“This is more important,” he told her.
She laughed, freeing one hand, smacking him gently in the face. He took her hand and kissed the back of her hand.
“What time is it, anyway?” she asked curiously.
Suna leaned over his shoulder, reading the clock.
“Ten past twelve.”
“How long have we been asleep?” she asked, alarmed.
He laughed, his chest reverberating. “Does it matter?”
A dark look crossed his face as he loomed over her, his lean torso in sight, making her flush hard. "It's our day off."
“R-Rin!”
He laughed again, not long before he swooped his arms around her, drawing her to him.
She smashed against his hard chest; his nose was against her hair, a heat stirred up when their bare flesh touched each other under the sheets. She was sure she was as red as a tomato.
“Rin…?” he was sniffing her hair, she noted, while running his hand down her hair, to which she found comforting.
“God, I love you.” He whispered, hugging her tight. “So much.”
Her heart skipped a beat at that. She can’t help but smile back.
Her small hands slowly wrapped themselves around him, a smile on her lips. “And I love you too.”
With just that, their exchange, it was settled. Last night was worth it, definitely worth it.
Moments later, Suna broke from their hug to look down at the (h/c) beauty, tucking her chin against his forefinger and thumb, gently claiming her lips again. His kisses were slow, a bit sloppy, but firm, sort of like, lazy morning kisses.
(Y/N) giggled against the kiss before returning his kiss.
They spent half an hour like that, just kissing each other. And a little bit of touching. A few more minutes later, (Y/N) called out that she was hungry and that they should probably get out of bed, to which, Suna reacted lazily. He didn’t want to just yet.
Slowly, (Y/N) made motion to get up, Suna watched her. She winced when she sat up, a blush on her cheeks when she spotted their clothes carelessly thrown, trails of last night’s tryst.
Picking up Suna’s shirt, she put it on and slowly got out of bed to prepare brunch for the two. Unbeknownst to her, Suna was watching her.
While she changed, he can’t help but notice how sinfully good she looks in his shirt, or how sexy she was. His eyes ogled on her creamy legs, her exposed nape, the marks he left behind, to her figure. How he wanted to take her right then and there but restrained himself from doing so.
“I’ll be right back,” she had climbed on the bed to peck on the lips, catching him by surprise.
As he watched her leave, he felt a mirth of happiness conjuring him. He was so lucky. He was so happy, so terribly happy that it was criminal.
Falling back on his bed, faintly, the smell of sex and her lingered about, he could still remember everything from last night, could remember the feeling of being connected to her physically and emotionally, the feeling of being loved, the feeling of finally making her his.
(L/N) (Y/N), his first love, was officially, finally his.
His.
All his and nobody else’s.
He had marked her as his, had even claimed his mark on her.
She was his, body and soul because he loved her, and she loved him back.
Tumblr media
When he walked into his home, key jiggling and resonating in the threshold, Suna realized that there was something else he could hear.
Curiosity peeked, he quickly took off his shoes and walked further in, passing by a few shelves, with a couple of frames on display: photos of the Inarizaki team during their first, second, and third years, the purikura from when they were second years, a photo of them at Mika and Reiki’s wedding, (Y/N) and the Miya twins at Osamu’s latest branch in Hiroshima, the whole national team plus the staff, Iwaizumi and her.
Usually, the house was silent – relatively peaceful, considering the disposition of his girlfriend and his indifference. But this silent was broken by something, something light, sweet, and captivating, he had to follow after it.
Reaching their living room, orange was the first thing he saw, Inari – the fox plushie from before, followed by papers, textbooks, and stationaries stationed on the coffee table, Inari sat on the couch next to her. And her, his (Y/N), dressed in one of his t-shirts.
And she was singing.
She was singing along to a song played from her laptop, played at a volume that was drowned out by her singing.
He’s heard her sing a few times in high school, unconsciously, of commercial jingles which really surprised everyone in the team. It would’ve been funny, but it was more so strange, and, dare he say, adorable of her.
Their eyes met and suddenly, she was singing to him, every word meant for him.
It choked him up.
He swore up and down, that he would cross any ocean, move mountains, if those (e/c) eyes were looking at him like that, with sickeningly, sweet words of the song sung to him, feeling his heart squeeze in the most devastating and fascinating way. Death by her singing?
Wow, he must be an idiot, a fool so in love.
Taking her hand, he helped her stand from the couch, walking around to meet him and starting an impromptu dance, to the tune of her singing.
Suna was smiling, she was smiling, continuing to sing, as they swayed around their living room.
Nothing was grander, more delightful, or ever so perfect than to have the person he’s yearned for so long in their shared home, singing softly, shyly, looking at him like this – with all the love she could offer.
This was some greeting, but he wouldn’t ask for anything else, couldn’t ask for more.
For this moment was theirs.
Theirs and theirs alone.
And nobody can ever take than from them.
“I’m home,” he pressed his forehead against hers.
Smiling, she finished her song, looking at him with all the love in the world. “Welcome home,”

━━━━━━༻🎾_🏀_🏐༺━━━━━━
Yamamoto Takeshi was the ace of Namimori high school’s baseball team. He was dependable, always able to save the team no matter what kind of pinch they found themselves in. He was extroverted and cheerful, kind enough to give the shirt off of his back if someone needed it. By all accounts, he was an amazing person and an even more amazing friend.
So why did you feel such envy when you looked at him? It hadn’t been like that when you first met. You were good friends, enjoying each other’s company and bonding over your love of baseball. As the years wore on, though, you started to distance yourself from him.
You trained your ass off, dedicating every free moment to getting stronger and fixing the weaknesses you had. You trained well into the night and woke up before the sun rose to train some more. Even during lunch break you trained, trying to get better at pitching. Yamamoto rarely trained, often running off with his friends to do god knows what.
In a way, this benefitted you because it kept your boyfriend, Tsuna, busy. You often felt guilty for not spending more time with him, but you were so focused on getting off the bench and on to the field that you often neglected him. At least if he was off with Yamamoto and the others, he wouldn’t be upset that you weren’t with him.
With the interhigh tournament right around the corner, you were desperate to not be on the bench for the third year in a row. You wanted to feel confident in yourself and you even kept reminding yourself that Yamamoto hasn’t been training, but you just couldn’t gather up any confidence. You wanted this more than anything, but a small part of you was sure it wouldn’t happen.
As it turned out, you were right.
Captain Natsuo scanned the group of players standing before him, his hands on his hips. The coach stood beside him, holding a clipboard in her arms. “I want all of you to know that you’ve done well and we have noticed all of your efforts. If you don’t make the official roster this year, don’t be disheartened! As a team, we must work together, whether you are on the bench or on the field.”
“Yes, sir!”
Blood was pumping loudly in your ears as you watched the coach hand him a slip of paper. He started listing off names, pausing for them to cheer and high-five their other teammates. Your heart seemed to drop a little more with each name until, finally, there was one spot left. You glanced to your right, finding Yamamoto standing a couple of places down, a cheerful grin on his face.
He noticed your look and sent you a kind, closed-eye smile along with a little wave. How could he be so damn cheerful when there was only one spot left on the main team? Was he so confident that he’d be chosen that he had no worry? Meanwhile, you felt like you were going to barf on the captain’s shoes, your stomach twisting and turning as if you had eaten something rotten.
The captain’s lips parted. “Yamamoto Takeshi.”
The team cheered and clapped him on the back. “We’re definitely gonna win with you on the team!”
“For sure, you’re a total powerhouse.”
“Glad to have you, Yamamoto!”
“We’re going to nationals!”
You clamped your lower lip tightly between your teeth, tasting blood on your tongue. Tears stung at your eyes but you held them back, head lowered as you turned and walked away along with the rest of those that hadn’t been good enough. But that was you – Y/N, second best to Yamamoto. No matter what you did, you just weren’t good enough to beat him.
It wasn’t fair.
━━━━━━༻🎾_🏀_🏐༺━━━━━━
“Hey, Y/N! Wait up!”
Your shoulders tensed at the familiar voice and you clutched your bag tighter, picking up your pace as you walked down the street. Yamamoto was taller, though, with long legs that covered the distance with ease. A hand gripped your shoulder, stopping you in your tracks.
“Where’s the fire?” he joked, giving you a bright grin. “Are you hungry? It’s been a while since you stopped by. My oyagi will be happy to see you!”
“No thanks, I’m not hungry,” you responded shortly before turning and continuing on your way. He didn’t take the hint, walking at your side.
“You missed practice today. Nejima ended up taking a ball to the back of the head from one of the first-years, he was so angry!” Yamamoto laughed. “Are you excited for the interhigh? We have a really solid team this year.”
Your jaw clenched and you picked up your pace, trying to put some distance between the two of you.
“You’re training even on the way home? You’re super dedicated, Y/N!”
“No, I’m not,” you snapped, whirling around to face him with your fists clenched. “I am not training. I am not looking forward to the interhigh. And I am no longer on the team!”
His eyes widened, finally realizing that something was clearly bothering you. “Y/N, what’s wro -”
“Nothing!” You snapped again, turning on your heel and taking off down the street. You just wanted to be away from him. You knew you were being a bad friend by letting your jealousy get in the way, but you didn’t care. How could you when you saw your dreams taken from you by him? All you wanted was to go to the nationals, it had been what you were training so hard for and this year was your last shot, but they had chosen him over you. They always did.
━━━━━━༻🎾_🏀_🏐༺━━━━━━
You felt a tap on your shoulder and you paused the anime you were watching, tugging your headphones down to rest against the back of your neck. You had been so engrossed in the show that you hadn’t realized anyone was knocking on your bedroom door. Tsuna’s warm brown eyes met yours, filled with worry.
“Hey, Tsu. What are you doing here?” you smiled at him softly.
“I wanted to check on you,” his hand lifted to your cheek, brushing his thumb across your skin. “Is everything alright?”
“Yes,” you chuckled, turning your eyes back to the screen. “Why wouldn’t it be?”
“Yamamoto told me about what happened. He said you won’t answer his calls or texts.”
Your smile faltered for a second but he noticed it. He always did.
“Hun, tell me what’s happened. Did you really quit the team?”
“Yeah, so what,” you scowled, crossing your arms across your chest and looking away from him. “Am I not allowed to or something?”
Tsuna frowned, sliding his hand down to the side of your neck. “You are, but I know how much you love playing baseball. Surely there has to be a reason for you to suddenly quit.”
You said nothing, glaring at the screen of your laptop as if it were the source of your frustrations.
“Please talk to me, Y/N. I can’t help you if you don’t.”
You scoffed, pushing him away as you stood up. “You can’t just fix everything, Tsuna! Sometimes things can’t be fixed.”
“That doesn’t mean I can’t try,” he stated calmly, giving you a smile when you snapped your eyes to his. “I love you, Y/N, and even if it’s impossible to fix, that doesn’t mean I won’t try my hardest to do so.”
Tears stung at your eyes and you quickly lowered your head, shoulders shaking. You had been bottling up these negative emotions for so long, it felt like you were drowning in them. Warm arms wrapped around your body, Tsuna’s lips pressing gently kisses to your temple as he whispered comforting words into your ear.
“Why…” you cried, clutching at his shirt. “Why am I not good enough, Tsu?”
His heart felt like it was breaking at the pain in your voice, his arms instinctively tightening around you. “You are good enough. Why would you ever think you weren’t?”
“Because! No matter how hard I try I… I’m not good enough to beat Yamamoto! I trained so – so hard and he didn’t train at all! But he… he still got a spot. I wasn’t even – even considered…”
Realization clicked within his mind as he pieced it together. “Oh, hun. You are an amazing player and you’ve worked so hard to become even stronger. You should never compare yourself to others, it’s not a healthy way to grow. There will always be someone stronger, someone better, but that doesn’t make your efforts any less important.”
“It just… seems so pointless,” you muttered, burying your face into his neck as you clutched at his waist for dear life. “I just wanted to be useful to the team, to help us get to nationals! This was my last chance…”
“I’m so sorry, Y/N…” As badly as he wanted to tell you that it wasn’t too late, he simply couldn’t do so. Next year, you would graduate high school and move on to college, focusing on your studies. And unless someone on the team got injured, you wouldn’t be able to play even if you had stayed on the team.
“So am I…”

Chapter 6: Really Hot Weather
It didn’t take long for the glow of love to fade into something more like your usual personality. Well, not in the presence of a certain boy, at any rate. Tsuna and Takeshi still had to go to summer school, after all, which meant you still had to spend the majority of your days with Hayato instead. And if anyone thought that your dating Takeshi would change Hayato’s view of you, well...
“For the love of–” you said. “Could you put that thing out for two seconds? You’ve been smoking since we got here!”
“What’s it to you?” Hayato asked, taking a lingering drag on the cancer-stick in his hand. He didn’t so much as bother to look at you as he did.
“It’s already hot out here. I don’t want my lungs burning, too.”
“I don’t have to listen to you. The Tenth is my–”
“I know!”
You rubbed your temples. For goodness’ sake, why did Hayato have to be so irritating? It wasn’t as though you actually enjoyed being ticked off at him, but his attitude combined poorly with the heat. In a tone of forced patience you said:
”I know that you only listen to Tsuna. But secondhand smoke isn’t good for other people, and it’s really rude–”
“Gokudera! [Name]!”
You looked around as Tsuna’s voice called out to you from across the school grounds. He and Takeshi had been let out just in time; four on the dot, and right before Hayato gave serious consideration to stuffing his cigarette down your throat to shut up.
Speaking of, Hayato stood up a little straighter as the other two boys approached.
“Were you waiting long?” Tsuna asked worriedly.
“Not at all, Tenth!”
You rolled your eyes. Determined to ignore Hayato’s gushing, you grinned as Takeshi arrived, then grabbed his arm.
Takeshi slid his arm around you. “Nice to see you, too. And how was your day?”
“I’m really beginning to hate summer school,” you said with a pout. “Hayato is so mean to me all day without you there to protect me.”
“Like hell I am, woman!” Hayato said.
You winced. You had thought he would be too busy with Tsuna to hear you. Quick as tack, you changed tactics.
“For that matter, my name isn’t woman!” you shot back. “It’s [Name], and you’d do well to remember it.”
“Like I’d  go out of my way to remember the name of any girl that idiot would want to date!”
You opened your mouth to send another scathing insult Hayato’s way, but Takeshi stopped you by stepping in between you and Hayato.
“Hey, now. I think the two you have seen enough of each other for one day.”
“We’ve all seen enough of her for our entire lives,” Hayato muttered.
You scowled and took a step forward, but Takeshi laid one hand on your shoulder and pushed you back, smiling.
“And it’s really hot out,” he continued as if Hayato had not even spoken. “So I think I should take [Name] home and make sure she’s okay…and that she doesn’t bother Gokudera anymore,” he added at the look on Hayato’s face.
“Are you sure, Yamamoto?” Tsuna asked, looking slightly nervous as he looked from one boy’s face to the other.
Takeshi laughed, pulling you closer. You gave Tsuna a small smile yourself. It was quite a struggle not to betray that the heat was so bad you already wanted to shove your own boyfriend about ten feet away from you.
“Sure thing, Tsuna!” Takeshi said. “We’ll come by this evening to finish our homework, okay?”
“If you say so. Bye, Yamamoto. Bye [Name].”
“Bye, Tsuna!” you called as Yamamoto steered you away. “Don’t let Hayato annoy you too much!”
And with that, you pulled on Yamamoto’s hand and ran off down the sidewalk before you could hear Hayato’s retort.
******
“Ugh. It's so hot,” you said.
About thirty minutes after escaping from the nefarious clutches of Hayato, you were around lounging in your grandmother’s living room. Truth be told, it wasn’t much cooler there than it had been outside the school. You had your legs draped over the back of the armchair as you fanned your face with a decorating magazine.
“Oh, I don’t know about that,” Takeshi said. He sat a few feet away at the kitchen table, a no-longer-sweating water bottle clutched in one hand. “Does it not get this hot where you live?”
“Not this hot. This is ridiculous. We need a way to beat the heat.”
“Well, you could always take more clothes off.”
You sat up, ready to gape at Takeshi for giving you such a strange suggestion. It took you several seconds to realize that your grandmother had walked into the room and the suggestion had come from her.
“Grandma!” you said indignantly.
“What? You’re practically naked anyway,” she said, eyeing the outfit you were wearing, which really was not that impressive as far as public nudity went, seeing as it consisted of your bathing suit top and a pair of shorts.
“I like it,” Takeshi said with a smile.
“Trust me, kid, you’d like her even more with it off,” she said as she pulled a chair out and plunked herself down next to him. “If you’re going to wear that little, [Name], you might as well go whole hog and do it.”
You paled.
Takeshi laughed. “It? What are you talking about?”
“Then again, you’re supposed to do that to warm up, and I guess that wouldn’t really help today.” She looked over at you still splayed across the chair. “Still, might be fun, if you can get this one to understand the basics.”
“No,” you said flatly. It was too hot to get riled up at her, and there would be no harm done anyway since Takeshi seemed to have no idea what she talking about.
Your grandma shrugged. “Maybe some other time, like when you come for Christmas break.”
“Hey, I have an idea!” Takeshi said.
“Really?” your grandmother asked as you said, “What is it?”
Instead of answering, he stood up and walked toward the door. “You’ll see. Be right back!”
******
Takeshi returned fifteen minutes later. He was not out of breath in the slightest, though you could not say the same for yourself after you opened the door to find your boyfriend wearing nothing but a pair of swim trunks and carrying what looked to be a very overstuffed bag.
“Um…” you tried.
“I’m back!” he said.
He slipped around you into the mildly air conditioned house, but he did not stay there for long. Before your grandmother could even remark upon your good taste in men’s butts, he slid the back door open and stepped outside. You blinked after him, shut the front door, and followed.
When you arrived, he was already busy with his plan. There, sitting in the middle of your yard, was an inflatable kiddie pool, already blown up and being filled with water from the hose.
“Like it?” Takeshi asked.
You nodded.
“See, I thought this might make us a little cooler, and we wouldn’t have to take off all of our clothes like your grandma suggested.”
“Right,” you said.
“Go ahead and put the rest of your swim suit on while I finish this up. I promise it’ll be ready by the time you’re back.”
“Back in a flash!”
You could not rush to your bedroom, close the door, and get your bottoms on fast enough, it seemed. True to his word, the pool was full to the brim with water when you returned to the yard. Takeshi remained exactly where you’d left him, and when he caught sight of you, he grinned.
“Ta-dah!”
“It’s amazing! Great idea, Takeshi!”
“It is,” he agreed. “There’s just one thing missing.”
“What’s that?”
“You!”
Before you could react, before you could defend yourself, he picked you up and threw you gently into the pool. You blinked away the water from the splash and glared up at him.
“Takeshi!” you shouted.
When he continued to laugh instead of apologize, you grabbed his arm and tugged him in after you. Needless to say, you both arrived late to Tsuna’s…late and very wet.

Chapter 4: Boredom
“Ughhhhhhh.”
Hayato scowled, clenching his fingers all the tighter around the sheet of paper in his hand.
“Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh.”
He smacked the paper down onto the table and began to grind his teeth together.
“Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.”
“Why the hell do you keep making that noise, woman?!”
“Hm?” You looked up from where you were sitting on Tsuna’s bed. When you realized that you had finally got someone’s attention (you’d only been trying for at least three hundred hours by then), you flopped back over and groaned, “I’m bored.”
“Sorry, [Name],” said Tsuna.
“You don’t have anything to apologize for, Tenth!” Hayato rushed to assure him.
You rolled your eyes, slid off the bed, and walked over to the table at which the three boys were sitting. “What have you guys been working on for so long anyway?”
“The Tenth has to get his work done for summer school tomorrow,” Hayato snapped. “If you’re so bored, why don’t you go somewhere else and annoy another group of people? Like, I don’t know, your grandma!”
You paused, pretending to consider this idea for a moment, then grinned like a cat among the canaries. “I Can’t.”
“What do you mean you can’t?!”
“Grandma is out on a date, so I’m supposed to stay with Tsuna all day today.” Your grin widened at the look on Hayato’s face. “Jealous?”
“No! And if you think for one second --
“Oi, Gokudera,” Takeshi said. “I think I figured this out,”
“We’ll see about that.”
Hayato swiped the paper away from Takeshi, and began to look over the answers. Meanwhile, Takeshi smiled at you. You smiled back, grateful that he had prevented Hayato from starting on what looked to be a big tantrum.
“Yamamoto really can do math,” Tsuna said, looking slightly downcast. “I don’t know what I’ll do at school tomorrow. I don’t get any of this!”
“Hey, chill out, Tsuna. Everything’ll turn out okay somehow. After all, you’ve got Hayato’s genius to help you out, right?” you asked.
“I don’t have to go to summer school, woman! And Baseball Idiot, you got number six wrong. Check the parenthesis again.”
“Ah, thanks, Gokudera.”
The room fell silent. You heaved a sigh (receiving another dirty look from Hayato) as both Tsuna and Takeshi went back to their math homework. You didn’t think you would be able to stand all the quiet work much longer.
“[Name]. Can I see you for a second?” Reborn called from the doorway.
You looked at Hayato. He huffed and rolled his eyes, and the other two were too busy to notice much of anything. So there was no one to protect you from Reborn, then--and after the fiasco at the festival only a few days before, you knew better than to keep Tsuna’s tutor waiting in the hopes that someone might volunteer to come with you. Not without some trepidation, you got up and followed Reborn outside the Sawadas’ house.
“What’s up, Reborn?” you asked once you’d both stopped in the front yard.
“I need your help with a little training exercise,” he said.
“Me?”
“Who else? You’re the one Hibari wants to see again, and you’ve been driving Gokudera crazy complaining about having nothing to do.”
“But–”
“Have you found something to do?” Reborn asked, with another one of his spine-chilling smiles.
“No,” you admitted.
A strange glint appeared in the infant’s eyes as he smirked up at you. “Good.”
******
“Mm, we’re finished at last,” Tsuna said, stretching forward over the eraser and pencil debris left over from his work.
“It really didn’t take as long as I thought,” Takeshi chirped. “Thanks for helping, Gokudera.”
“It certainly was a lot easier to do without that [Name] idiot around,” said Hayato.
Tsuna’s eyes widened. “[Name]?”
“Who else would I be talking about, Tenth?”
“No. I mean, when did she leave?”
“About an hour ago,” Hayato said.
“Yeah, she left with the kid,” Takeshi agreed. “But shouldn’t she be back now?”
“[Name] isn't coming back this time.”
Tsuna yelped as a large shadow appeared on the bedroom wall. Yamamoto laughed, the asked:
“What do you mean?”
“Reborn! What did you do with [Name]?” Tsuna asked.
“I didn’t do anything,” Reborn said, turning to stare out the window at the darkening sky. “I took her to train–”
“Why would you do that?!”
“She attracted Hibari’s attention the other day, remember? I thought you’d appreciate me making sure your friend won’t die, but if you’d rather–”
“Just tell us what happened to her!” Tsuna shouted.
“I went to come back and get you, and as I was leaving, the Momokyokai came and kidnapped her.”
“What?!”
“Wait…” Takeshi looked thoughtful. “Didn’t Gokudera and I already beat that gang? When they kidnapped Tsuna?”
“That’s right!” Tsuna said. “And you told Dino they were fake!”
“But they’re real,” Reborn said in his most ominous voice. “And think about it. Now that they were disgraced by Yamamoto and Gokudera, they have a reason to seek revenge. What better way to get it than by hurting your defenseless girlfriend?”
“She’s not my girlfriend!” Hayato and Tsuna said in unison, if not the same tone.
Yamamoto laughed. Then his smile disappeared.
“She’s at the same base as before,” Reborn said as he vanished out the window. “Hurry.”
******
“Bleh,” you said aloud.
Your voice echoed in the empty room you’d been left in. Reborn had promised that this would be a little more exciting than watching your friends do their summer homework, but it wasn’t. So far, the most excitement you’d seen all day was watching Reborn himself terrorize a few thugs into submission. After that, those same thugs had led you up to a cement room that had nothing inside it but a straight-backed chair and several lengths of rope.
And then Reborn handed you some very dangerous looking darts, stuck a picture of Hayato’s head on the wall, and went on his merry way. Apparently you were supposed to train with this odd assortment of items, and you had been…but by this point in time, the photograph started to look a little worn (especially where one of the darts had exploded over his left eye), and you were sick of chasing after your lost darts.
Yes, this activity was no less boring than watching Tsuna and Takeshi do homework. At least Tsuna’s room décor left a little less to be desired.
A massive clatter outside your room sent you scrambling around the chair. Had the thugs decided against being terrified of a baby after all? You sucked an enormous breath in anticipation of screaming as the door burst open. Instinctively, you scooped up several wicked-looking darts from the pile nearby and aimed them the best you could at the figures rushing in through the smoke.
“[Name]?” came a familiar, panicked voice.
You scrambled through the wreckage, dropping your darts as you did.  “Tsuna?”
“I’m right here, [Name].”
You stopped trying to untangle yourself from the bits of rope and chair. When you looked up, sure enough, Tsuna was there--and he was obviously worried.
“Are you alright?” he asked.
“I’m fine,” you said shakily. You tried to stand up, only to trip at once over the ropes.
“Here.”
You smiled up at Takeshi and took the hand he offered you.
“You alright, woman?” Hayato barked.
You giggled, turning toward the last boy. “Fine. Thanks, Hayato.”
“You aren’t hurt?” Tsuna asked.
“No, not at all. Should I be?”
"Reborn said you were being tortured for information about our whereabouts!”
 “He did?”
 “Yes,” Tsuna hissed.
“Oh, well, he just told me that, since I was bored, I should help him with a training exercise. Then he stuck me here with some weapons or some–”
“What the hell?!” Hayato cut in. “Why is there a picture of me here?! And why does it look like it’s been burned?”
“Uh,” you said intelligently. It wasn’t as though you’d selected that particular bit of motivation. Then again, you hadn’t exactly refused to throw explosive darts at it either.
“So you really weren’t in any danger?” Tsuna asked.
You looked back at him with yet another smile. “Nah. Reborn just likes messing with you.”
“I’m glad you’re alright,” Takeshi said, “but we should probably head back. Your grandma will be worried if we don’t get you home soon.”
“Mm. Yeah, I guess,” you said, and made to follow him out. “And guys?”
“Yeah, [Name]?” asked Tsuna.
"What is it, woman?” said Hayato.
Whether it was your sudden return to a place with sunlight or not, you couldn’t tell. You simply felt warm all over as the four of you exited a building piled with wounded gangsters. “Thanks for saving me.”

Chapter 3: Lemonade Stand
“Hey! Hello! Hey!” You quit jumping up and down to stand with your hands on your hips. “I. Said. Hey!”
“Tch. What do you want?” Hayato finally acknowledged your existence via glaring daggers.
You huffed, scowled up at him, and were infuriated when he didn’t even bat an eye at your ugly expression. Deciding to give him a reason to be annoyed, you took a deep breath before proceeding to speak in the slowest, clearest voice you could muster:
“Tsuna told me to meet him here today, remember?” You made sure to enunciate every syllable in the last word.
“Whatever,” he said.
You folded your arms across your chest and narrowed your eyes. “Jeez, Hayato. It’s not my fault he invites me over more than you.”
“What did you say, woman?” Of course, that got his attention. He whirled around, but you had already hid your grin at finally getting a reaction out of him behind an innocent smile and wide, blinking eyes.
“I said it’s not my fault Tsuna invites me over more than he invites you.”
Hayato let out an audible growl. You could swear you heard him grinding his teeth together as he plunged his hands into his pockets and withdrew several sticks of dynamite.
“The Tenth is only humoring you!” he snapped. “I’m the one he trusts with his life!”
“Are you sure about that?”
“Shut up, woman, or I’ll–”
“Gokudera! [Name]!”
“Tenth!” Hayato said as he spotted the boy in question stepping out of the nearby house with Takeshi in tow. In the blink of an eye, the dynamite vanished. You eyed Hayato suspiciously, but he was too busy grinning at Tsuna to notice.
You sighed and rolled your eyes. Best to leave the matter as it was.
“Hey, [Name],” Takeshi said with a smile. “You look pretty.”
“Ah, um, thanks,” you stammered, hoping the heat you felt in your cheeks wasn’t obvious to everyone else. “Grandma was really excited to hear about the festival. She went a little overboard.”
“She did a nice job!”
“She sure did.” You said nothing about how the “nice job” she’d done involved blackmailing you into not telling them she had bought your festival outfit, not made it herself. Even if you hadn’t asked your grandmother to help you get some birth control pills, your father was more likely to believe her than you. Time for a swift change of subject: “So I’ve never been to one of these thingies. We just go and wander around?”
“That’s about it,” Tsuna answered.
“And at the end there are fireworks!” Takeshi added.
“Or you could take this chance to make some extra money.” A voice came out of nowhere just as an oversized acorn fell onto Tsuna’s head.
“Tsuna rubbed the spot where it had hit him. “Ow!”
“Who said that?” you asked, looking around wildly. It definitely hadn’t been one of the boys, but there was no one else around as far as you could tell.
“If you get money now, you’ll have more to spend for the rest of the summer,” said the same voice. "The mafia always answers the door when opportunity knocks."
“Reborn!” Tsuna shouted.
“Tsuna, why are you talking to a giant acorn?”
“It’s Reborn!”
You frowned and took the nut away from him. Then you held it up and, using the same tone you had used to speak to Hayato earlier, said, “No. This is an acorn.”
“It’s not even the right season for acorns!”
“Very good, Tsuna. A mafia boss needs to be able to see through clever disguises.” The acorn in your hands began to shake before the shell broke, revealing Reborn.
“That was hardly clever,” Tsuna muttered.
“Hey, nice costume!” you said as Reborn leapt from your arms.
“That was good,” Takeshi agreed. “But we didn’t sign up for a stand this year.”
“That’s where you’re wrong,” said Reborn.
“Oh great,” Tsuna said. “We have to sell bananas again?”
“Of course not.” Tsuna’s sigh of relief was short-lived. “That stand was already taken. I signed the four of you up for the lemonade stand instead
“Thanks, kid. “We’ll do our best,” said Takeshi.
“And I’ll sell more than this Baseball Idiot!” Hayato said.
“A contest! That’s the best.”
“Great.” Reborn turned to leave. “Don’t forget about Hibari’s fee.”
Then he disappeared as quickly as Hayato’s dynamite, leaving you with Tsuna’s drawn out moan.
******
“Thank you! Come again!”
The seventh costumer in so many minutes left with his glass of lemony goodness, giving you time to wipe your brow before turning to the next one. Because of the unnatural summer heat, your stand was one of the most popular in the area. Some people had been by multiple times, and though that was good for profit, you were beginning to tire out.
“Wow, we’re really doing great!” Takeshi said as he handed off yet another glass. “That’s thirty for me, Gokudera.”
“Ha! I can sell lemonades for the Tenth better than you! I just sold thirty-one!” Hayato said smugly.
“It’s not over yet!”
“Sorry you got roped into this, [Name],” Tsuna said in a low voice, as he ducked down beside you to pour more sugar into several of the plastic cups.
“Don’t worry about it, Tsuna. It’s not your fault. Reborn doesn’t seem like the kind of tutor you can argue with.”
“You’ve got that right.”
“Besides, this Hibari guy is the one you said bites people to death, right? I can’t have him biting my friends, so I’m more than willing to help.”
“Still, selling lemonade isn’t much fun.”
“Well, like Reborn said, we can use the money to have fun later,” you said. For a moment, the conversation was interrupted by another family of costumers. “Oh! I know! We could go to the beach!”
Tsuna cocked his head and looked at you for a moment before allowing a hesitant grin to creep across his face. “Yeah. That sounds nice.”
“So let’s sell the best we can! For the beach!”
“Right!”
******
Reborn lowered his binoculars and lifted one pudgy hand to stroke the lizard perched on the band of his fedora. You could actually motivate Tsuna to do something. That he had certainly not expected. He could tell that you weren’t having a blast, and yet you were sticking with it.
“Hm…” he hummed to himself, still lounging easily on the roof of the chocolate-covered banana stand. Your little ability would indeed come in handy in the family.
But the real test was yet to come.
******
“Whew. Fifteen more minutes!” Takeshi said.
“And then the fireworks?” you asked.
“And then the fireworks!”
“Hey, don’t be slacking off, idiots!” Hayato snapped. “We’re not done yet! I still have to sell ten more to beat Yamamoto!”
Takeshi grinned. “Okay! But I gotta go do the ball throw. I do it every year. I can’t miss out this time!”
“Tch! You go ahead. I’ll beat your record without you here.”
“Great! Hey, Tsuna, I think Gokudera and [Name] can get it from here. Come and watch!”
“But–” Tsuna began.
“Nah, it’s okay, Tsuna. We can handle it,” you said. “Go on ahead with Takeshi.”
“Come on, Tsuna! Before it closes!”
You waved as Takeshi dragged Tsuna away. Only after they’d left did one very important realization dawn on you.
“Um...Hayato?”
“What is it, woman?!”
“We’re kind of out of lemons.”
“What? Then how will I beat that Baseball Idiot?”
“You got me. How about we just close down? No point in staying open if we don’t have any merchandise.”
“No! I will win this! You stay here! I’m going to go get more lemons!”
“In fifteen minutes?”
But he had already vaulted over the counter and disappeared from sight.
“Right then.”
Not that it was difficult to be in charge of the shop. The streets were practically empty because the parade had started, and you were polite enough that the most you got was angry grumbling when you explained that you had nothing left to sell. When there were only about seven minutes left to go, you began to pack up, certain that Hayato would not return with the ingredients in time to defeat Takeshi.
"And where’s the money for this stand, herbivore?”
You turned around, confusion clear on your face. In front of you stood a pretty boy with black hair and silver eyes. Just as you were about to ask him who he was looking for, his red armband of justice caught your eye.
“Oh, you’re Kyoya Hibari, right?” you asked.
He smirked, which you took for a yes.
“I’ve got your money right here.” You fished around for a moment until you found the money you had already set aside.
Kyoya took your offering without further comment. Instead of leave as you expected to him, however, he flipped through the money for half a minute before his eyes darted back to you.
“It looks like you’ve all made quite a bit more money than this.”
“Yeah,” you said. “And that’s what we owe you for lending us the land, right?”
“You owe me a percentage of your wages, herbivore.”
“Okay, seriously, what’s with the herbivore thing? I eat meat, you know?”
“Hn. Perhaps you’d like to be bitten to death?”
“Perhaps you’d like to take the money you actually deserve and leave?” You folded your arms across your chest. “Reborn didn’t say anything about a percentage.”
His eyes widened momentarily. “You know that baby?”
“If the baby you’re talking about is sitting on that stand over there and wearing a suit, then yes.”
“You might be more interesting than I thought,” Kyoya said, with a smile on his face that sent a shiver down your spine. You did your best not to let him onto that little detail, though.
“Gee, thanks,” you said flatly. “Now go away.”
In one second, the counter standing in front of you transformed into a heap of broken wood and fabric. Kyoya glared down at you, tonfa already in hand.
“Meep,” you said.
“And now you owe me for damages, herbivore.”
“What? But you–”
He took a step forward. Nothing you said was going to get you out of this situation. You looked wildly around, spotted the metal box filled with the rest of the money, and you snatched it up. Before you knew it, you were pelting past Kyoya into the crowd. If he tried to follow you, you didn’t slow down to try to find out.
******
“Very good, [Name]. You passed the test.”
“Ahhh!” You jumped, scrambling with the money box. If Kyoya had cornered you with one of his gangster buddies--!
But no. It was Reborn standing right next to you on the wall you’d hid behind.
You stared at him for a moment, and then found your voice: “Test? What test?”
“The test to see if you could join Tsuna’s family.”
“When did I take a test?”
“You got away from Hibari without get hurt,” Reborn explained. “Admittedly you just ran away, but it’s a victory all the same. Braver people than you have died trying to do that.”
You’d need to compartmentalize a lot of that for later. For now, you could only think to ask: “My test was that psycho?”
“Yes.”
“So, wait, let me get this straight: You sent a deranged prefect after me, knowing perfectly well I couldn’t fight, just to see if I would survive the onslaught?”
Reborn smiled in a manner eerily reminiscent of Kyoya. “Pretty much.”
Tsuna was right. That baby was crazy. You took a deep breath to prepare yourself to let him know exactly where he could get off when you were interrupted by a voice screaming your name. Looking up, you saw the three boys rushing up to you.
“[Name]! Are you okay?” Tsuna asked, worry filling his eyes.
“We saw the stand. What happened?” Takeshi asked.
“You better not have got rid of all the customers!” said Hayato.
“Kyoya happened,” you said, then added with a lofty look at the last boy, “And I did not, thank you very much.”
“Wait, so did he--did he take everything?” said Tsuna.
You straightened up with a grin and proudly held out your somewhat heavy prize.
“Nope!” Your smile grew as you saw their incredulous faces. “And now we can really go to the beach!”
“Yeah! Good idea! But first we gotta go see the fireworks!” said Takeshi.
“Oh! Right!” Tsuna said. “Come on, [Name]!”
And just like that, you were part of the family. As you watched the bursts of color overhead, you couldn’t help but feel like this might be the best summer ever...even if it did involve more psychopaths trying to get you killed than usual.

Chapter 5: Summer School
You heaved the 751st sigh of the day, blinked, and hoped that the ceiling you’d been staring at would somehow transform into something more interesting when you opened your eyes. No such luck. It was just as off-white and textured as it had been all morning and the better part of the afternoon. Better try again, then:
“Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.”
Your companion tore the paper in his hands once more.
“Don’t you dare start that again!” Hayato snapped.
You rolled onto your side to peer over the edge of your mattress. There Hayato sat on the floor, his back against your bed and a crumpled magazine between his fists. He glared at you, but you hardly noticed as you went back to staring at the ceiling.
“I’m bored,” you said.
“So suck it up. You don’t need to annoy me with your constant whining.”
“I’m sorry, Hayato, but whose house are you at today?” Your question was met with silence. “That’s right. Mine. So if anyone should be sucking it up, it’s you.”
“Shut up! I wouldn’t be here if–”
“If Tsuna and Takeshi weren’t at school, and if Tsuna hadn’t asked you to keep me company. I know. You’ve told me a thousand times.”
“And you’ve groaned a thousand times!”
You sighed again, and heard the paper tear even further.
“Are you two still up here sitting?” asked a new voice from the doorway.
“No, Grandma,” you answered in a monotone. “We’re having a rave. Can’t you see all the flashing colors and our glow sticks? Wee.”
“Did I ask for an order of sass, young lady?” Your grandma sauntered into the room, raising her eyebrows in what she clearly thought was a stern manner.
“Not sass. We’re using our–” You stuck your arms out in front of you and made a rainbow with your hands “–imagination.”
She smirked at Hayato. “Really? Your friend doesn’t look like he’d be endowed with anything that great.”
“What the hell?!” said Hayato. “I’ll have you know–”
“Summer school will be out soon. Why don’t you go meet your friends?” your grandma said, smoothly cutting Hayato off before he could really begin his tirade. “And tomorrow perhaps look into something a little more exciting than imaginary sass raves, hm? You don’t want to be rude to your guest, [Name].”
You sneaked a glance in Hayato’s direction and found him grinding his teeth together. Never a good sign. Before he could threaten to blow up your grandmother, you sat up and slid off the bed.
“Good idea. Thanks, Grandma,” you said as you tugged on Hayato’s arm.
He shot you a disgusted look, but got to his feet.
Your grandmother grinned at him again as she left the room. “No problem, dear. Have fun with your friends.”
“Will do,” you called after her. “Bye!”
******
Walking to Namimori Middle School did not turn out to be much more enjoyable than sitting in your room. No sooner had you exited your grandmother’s home than did you and Hayato start bickering again.
“She’s right that you shouldn’t be rude, but she shouldn’t either!” he shouted before you’d even left the block.
“It’s her house!” you replied.
“Well, I didn’t want to go over to her house!”
“We didn’t invite you anyway! Tomorrow you can just hang around in Tsuna’s attic all day like you usually do!”
“Fine! That’s what I wanted to do today!”
“Great! Can we just go pick up the guys now?”
“I could pick up the Tenth without your help! I was going to anyway!”
“Too bad. I’m coming along.”
You folded your arms across your chest, looking at Hayato through narrowed eyes. He took a deep breath as if to continue berating you, but finally spun around and marched off toward the middle school.
“Tch. Do whatever you want, woman,” he said as he lit up another cigarette. “At least you can get that Baseball Idiot off of my hands.”
The pair of you walked the rest of the way in stony silence. When you arrived, Hayato found a wall to lean against a wall while he smoked. This bored you rapidly enough that you soon wandered in through the gates in search of friendlier faces.
You’d never seen Namimori before. It seemed nice. Not too different from the school you attended back home, actually. Checking your watch, you saw that you still had twenty minutes to burn before Tsuna and Takeshi got out of class...assuming Hayato hadn’t lied to you, of course, and that wasn’t assumption you were willing to make. Either way, you didn’t feel like spending that time with him when the heat had him so grouchy. The campus looked otherwise empty. Why not take the opportunity to explore a Japanese middle school?
Doing your best to ignore the oppressive heat, you set out across the grounds. You really were just wandering, peeking around corners, craning your head to look towards the roof. Every so often, you thought you saw a bulky boy in a dark jacket standing alongside the pavement or near the gate or on top of the building, but whoever he was (or they were), the figure melted away before you could get close enough to speak to them.
At last, it grew too hot for you to continue looking around. The moment you spotted a door to inside, you pulled it open and quietly slipped into the beyond. You felt much, much cooler, but the silence disquieted you. Although the overhead lights were on, the first floor was empty. No matter how far you cocked your head to one side, no matter how hard you listened intently for the noises of a nearby class, you heard absolutely nothing to indicate anyone at Namimori was alive.
“Okay. That’s not at all creepy,” you muttered.
When no one, not even a mysterious strange boy with a pompadour, answer you, you set off down the hall. Goosebumps slowly crawled up your spine and across your arms. Every few steps, you would whip your head in one direction in attempt to catch Reborn spying on you, but you saw no sign of him at all. All you saw were rows and rows and rows of lockers nearly identical to the ones at your own school, and the occasional sign written in hiragana.
You came to an abrupt stop after a few minutes of this. “You know what? I think I will go back and wait with Hayato. Maybe he’s lonely,” you announced to the empty hallway.
Then you broke into a sprint across the rest of the hallway and burst out of the doors in the back of school.
“Oh, sh–”
“Going somewhere, herbivore?”
You froze as a familiar voice came from behind you. Now that you knew enough about Kyoya to be scared, you certainly were, but you also knew enough not to let him know just how terrifying he was.
“I already told you, I don’t just eat plants,” you sighed, attempting to sound put off rather than terrified. “I’m not a chipmunk, you know, or a rabbit. Eep!” you squealed as two rounded points of metal pressed into your back. Perhaps putting up a façade of being annoyed had been the wrong choice. If you’d acted like a coward, maybe he would have lost interest.
“You ran away last time, herbivore, and I’m interested in seeing what exactly you can do,” Kyoya said. “If that baby is interested in you, it’s fit for me to be interested, too.”
“Reborn is interested in Tsuna. He’s no good at fighting.”
“No.” You could almost hear the smirk in Kyoya’s voice. “But he and his friends are good for biting to death.”
“H-Hey now. Let’s be reasonable. I didn’t do anything wrong last or this time. I gave you the money I owed you, and it’s not like I have the rest on me. Now I’m just waiting for my friends to get out of–”
“You are not a student at this school, and yet you were wandering the halls. Do you have an escort? No? Trespassing will get you bitten to death.”
You gulped as he prodded you again with his tonfa. If you screamed, would Hayato come running? You didn’t trust him enough to try. Tsuna and Takeshi were probably out of class by now, and he would be too busy fussing over his precious Tenth to bother.
“Do you have anything to say for yourself, herbivore?” Kyoya asked.
“I do,” came a voice you had not expected to hear. “She’s with me.”
Kyoya spun around to look at the person that had come to your rescue. You turned quickly as well, rubbing the sore spots on your back. Takeshi stood there, smiling just as cheerfully as ever in the face of Kyoya’s cold, blank stare.
“Hn. See to it that she doesn’t break any more school rules, or I’ll bite her to death, and you with her,” he said.
“Yes, sir,” Takeshi said, still smiling.
And then Kyoya was gone. You exhaled gustily as you wiped the sweat from your brow and tripped toward Takeshi.
“He’s gone. Thank goodness.” You peered in through the windows to make doubly sure that Kyoya  was not lurking inside, ready to pounce the minute you were left alone again. Then you looked up at Takeshi and grinned. “Thanks for rescuing me again. I owe you another one.”
“Ahahaha. That’s okay,” Takeshi said. The two of you headed toward the gates--the correct direction this time. “I’m just glad I could get to you in time. You shouldn’t be wandering around alone with Hibari on the prowl, but I guess Gokudera forgot to tell you that.”
“Yeah, sure. He forgot.” You made  mental note to shove Hayato’s cigarette up his nose the next chance you got. “But how did you get there so fast?” “I saw you out the window, and I saw Hibari coming to harass you. The minute the teacher released us, I made sure to come get you.”
“Oh. Well, thanks again.”
You almost asked him why he’d gone to the trouble. Almost. But doing so ran the risk of tackling a subject you weren’t ready to yet, especially knowing that the simplest answer was that Takeshi didn’t want Kyoya to beat you to a bloody pulp. He probably had a good idea you weren’t carrying around those freaky explosive darts Reborn kept forcing on you.
“No problem!”
Then he stopped walking. He looked suddenly abashed. Your heart hammered in your chest.
“I guess I just didn’t want him to hurt you,” he admitted.
Oh, was that all? You really didn’t need to tackle that subject now. You laughed, a quiet, embarrassed chuckle. “You three really are strange about protecting your friends. This mafia roleplay stuff is crazy.”
“No, I mean--well, yeah, but--” Takeshi laughed nervously himself, rubbing the back of his head and closing one eye in a sort of prolonged wink. “I didn’t want him to hurt you because you’re my friend, but I also kind of like you like you.”
“Oh!” was all you said as you felt heat blooming in your cheeks. You looked at the ground and scuffed a patch of dirt with your shoe. Trust Takeshi of all people to get into what you’d been so afraid to begin with. None of this felt quite real. Perhaps you were suffering heat stroke? But you took the plunge and said,  "I kind of like you like you, too.”
“Really?” You looked up at the change in his voice. No longer anxious, he had gone right back to grinning in his usual manic way. “That’s great!” He took a few steps away and then smiled back at you. “Come on! Let’s go get Tsuna and Gokudera.”
And just like that, the confession was over. You felt a little relieved on two counts: One, your crush wasn’t in vain. Two, nothing was about to change between you and your group of summer friends. The only thing you had to worry about was the inevitable end of that summer. But for the time being, you could push that aside. Takeshi’s hand was waiting for you to take before you ran with him to join the rest of your group--and whatever they had in store for you would be sure to chase any fears you had far from your mind, just as he had so easily chased away Kyoya.

Chapter 1: Meeting
“Here we are, Miss.”
Your driver’s voice barely cut through the haze you found yourself in while sitting in the back of his car. The brain fog remained as you groggily gathered your belongings and the car slid to a smooth stop. Yawning, you stepped out into the thick heat of Japan with only the vaguest memory of the long flight and subsequent car ride that had deposited you just outside your grandmother’s house in Namimori. You’d hardly noticed your arrival before your driver left you there.
You felt strangely vulnerable without the car there to protect you. After all, you had never been to Japan before–had never really planned to visit– but when your parents had decided to go for a spur-of-the-moment second honeymoon, two months ago, no one had been able to look after you for the summer other than your father’s secluded Japanese mother.
All the time you’d spent sitting in one place to get here, and you still didn’t know what you were going to say to the grandmother you’d seen only a handful of times. You’d been very young then, too. And it wasn’t just her you worried about. What were you supposed to do in this strange country for the next month and a half? Sure, your father had taught you the language, but communication wasn’t the only problem you could foresee raising its ugly head.
Some of your fears, however, were relieved by the relatively normal-looking neighborhood that met your eyes. You heaved a sigh of relief before you looked at the paper with the address jotted down on it. This was indeed where your grandmother lived.
But before you opened the gate, you looked behind yourself once more. Someone was watching you. Weren’t they? You could see no movement at all. After a moment or two of searching, you shrugged, got a better grip on your suitcase, and made your way up to the house.=
******
“Oh, I’m just so glad you decided to visit!” the small, silver-haired woman called over her shoulder as she bustled around the kitchen, making the tea you had not actually said you wanted. “We two girls will have such fun! We have so much to catch up on!”
You forced a smile as you took the steaming cup from her hands. Who on earth would want something so hot when just outside was even warmer? Even placing the mug on the table in front of you didn’t seem to get rid of the steam.
If your grandmother noticed your chagrin, she didn’t show it. She just shuffled over to the other side of the table to settle in. She grinned at you again, and you smiled back, though less enthusiastically than you had when you had entered the house roughly two hours ago.
“So,” she said, patting her thighs with the palms of her hands. “What are you planning on doing this summer?”
“Do?” you asked, bewildered.
“Well of course! I remember what it was like to be a girl your age. Surely you don’t want to spend the entire summer in the company of someone as old as your grandmother!”
Now your discomfort grew so great that you couldn’t help but squirm. You did not want to admit that you had thrown a bit of a snit about just that very aspect of being sent across the world for vacation. Your parents had refused to let you stay back home with one of your friends and had instead chosen to send you to a completely unfamiliar country. How were you supposed to make friends in a town full of strangers? But admitting that sounded rude without you so much as opening your mouth.
Your grandmother nodded as though she could hear your thoughts anyway. “You can’t expect me to get out and about as much as you would like. No, you need to get out there, make some friends, meet some boys!”
“I don’t know about that, Grandma,” you said weakly.
“Why, sure you do! Go to the park, or to get noodles, or something! Anything! It’s summer break here, too, you know, and kids your age will be crawling out of the woodwork.”
“Well…”
“Well, what? A bright kid like you, you’ll make friends like that!” She snapped her fingers. “And not being able to talk to them is no excuse. We’ve been speaking Japanese since you got here, and you haven’t had any trouble at all!”
“But what if–”
“No, no worrying. Worrying does not all you to act.” Your grandmother stood up, motioning for you to do the same.
You did.
Without warning and with surprising strength, the old woman pushed you toward and out the front door, then slammed it before you were able to turn around and step back inside. A snick indicated she’d locked you out.
“Grandma!” You banged on the door with one first. “Grandma! Let me back in!”
“No, not until you make some friends, [Name]!”
With that, you heard her march away from the door. You hit the door once or twice more, but knew it was a futile effort. Your father had warned you that your grandmother could be quite adamant about the strangest things.
You were now outside in the sweltering heat, wearing nothing but a pair of shorts, a t-shirt, and your socks. You could simply choose to sit down in the shade and wait until your grandmother came back to see if you had left, but you were unsure if she would be able to see you from another window, or if she even would let you back in when you clearly had refused to try.
Deciding that it was best to just get the attempt over with, you made your way down the sidewalk and back onto the street you had left mere hours before. As you left the gate, you looked around, scratching the side of your head. There were no kids here. Old people usually lived amongst other old people, didn’t they?
Maybe you would have to go somewhere else to find people your own age to talk to. Your grandmother had not, after all, given you a curfew or any limitations to your wanderings. After looking both ways across the street, you chose one direction and set out that way, trying to ignore the way your shirt stuck to your skin and how each step turned your socks and even darker gray.
You saw no one. You heard no one. Either your grandmother had lied about the number of students milling around with no school to attend, of the entire population of Japan had agreed that it was too hot to bother with going outside. March and march and march you did. Only upon finding a shady spot against fence did you finally decide you’d given enough effort and needed to rest.
“Hey. What’re you doing out here alone?”
When had you closed your eyes? At the sound of an unfamiliar voice, you jumped about a foot in the air and opened those eyes to find your nose a mere two inches from that of a tall boy with messy dark hair, brown eyes, and the biggest smile you’d ever seen.
He took a step back, still grinning and clearly without a care in the world as to how badly he’d scared you. Well, you thought your fright ought to be obvious enough. You were breathing heavily and looking at him like he was completely insane.
“So?” he asked.
“So what?” you replied.
“What’re you doing out here alone? It’s kinda hot to just be sitting there.”
You frowned. He was taller than you by quite a bit, but he looked to be your age or around it. Well, beggars couldn’t be choosers.
“My grandma locked me out until I found some friends,” you explained.
“Oh, are you new in town?” the boy asked, his smile never faltering. “You can play mafia with us!”
“Tch! Don’t invite strangers to join the family, baseball idiot! Besides, that’s the Tenth’s job!” said a new voice.
“Ahahaha, I didn’t think Tsuna would mind,” the boy in front of you said.
You inched to the side and saw that you were not as alone with the tall “baseball idiot” as you had originally thought. Two other boys stood behind him. One had shaggy silver hair; the other, an impressive bush of brown hair rising from his scalp. Upon closer examination, there appeared to be four of members of this group. The brunet had what appeared to be a baby wearing a suit and a hat perched on his shoulder.
“Anyway, I’m Takeshi Yamamoto,” the smiling boy said, his smile only widening when you looked him in the eyes. “What’s your name?”
“Um, [F Name] [L Name],” you said.
“She can play with us, right, Tsuna?”
The smallest of the boys eyed Yamamoto and opened his mouth to speak, but the baby on his shoulder answered first:
“Of course. We’re always looking for new family members.”
“Re-Reborn! Don’t just decide things like that!” the boy, Tsuna, stammered.
“See? It’ll be fun! Come on!” Yamamoto said as he returned his attention to you. Apparently he did not even consider the fact that people your age generally didn’t play “imagination games” a problem.
The silver-haired boy made another “Tch!” sound and looked away.
“This is Tsuna.” Yamamoto gestured toward the brunet. “He’s our “boss.” And this,” he motioned toward the other boy, “is Gokudera.”
Gokudera didn’t even bother to look at you. He merely kept his arms crossed and looked adamantly away from both you and Yamamoto.
“So come on! It’ll be fun! And then your grandma will let you back inside, right?”
You hesitated.
His cheerful smile never faltered. "Summer break is best spent with friends."
This time, you looked at the silver haired boy, still pointedly ignoring you, and grinned yourself. “You know what? I’d really like that.”

Chapter 9: Looking at the Stars
The sound of something small and hard hitting your window woke you at 2:00 that morning. You ignored it at first. Probably just a tree branch in the wind, you figured, as you flipped over and snuggled Chinatsu (the cat plushie Yamamoto had won for you) a little harder into your chest.
Then, it happened again.
Chinatsu hit the floor as you sat straight up and peer around the dark guest room. Everything appeared to be in order. Nothing moved. No shadows leaped from behind the pieces of furniture.
And then the sound at the window came again.
This time, you shrunk back. Should you call for your grandmother? Should you cut out the middle man and call the police?
Another tiny crash filled the room once more. Swallowing, you rolled off the bed and tiptoed toward the window. You crouched a few steps away from the bed before scurrying over to the window and peaking your head up just above the ledge.
And what did you see but a whole lot of...not much. The light of the moon hitting the glass obscured whatever was out there. You huffed as you fumbled with the latch. Just why you were opening your window in the dead of night was beyond you. Some creep would probably force his way inside as soon as he had the option.
The window slid open with barely any sound. Nothing outside made any noise either. You frowned, stuck your head out, and looked around. No one clung to the nearby tree, or hung from the roof, or made any move whatsoever to tackle you out of the way.
Then what had made all that noise?
“[Name]!”
“Takeshi?”
You threw yourself further out the window trying to spot the boy on the ground. Of course, you forgot about gravity. It took you several seconds of flailing to regain your balance enough to get back inside your room.
“Careful!” His voice carried a laugh up to your room.
Again, you stuck your neck outside, though this time much more carefully to hiss, “What are you doing here?”
 “I came to see you!”
“At two in the morning?
“I thought we could do something together.”
“At two in the morning?”
“Yeah. You’re leaving tomorrow, right?”
That gave you some pause. A quick look at the clock on the bedside table confirmed it: You had less than eight short hours of time left in Japan.
“What did you have in mind?” you asked.
“Come down,” though you could not see him, you could still hear his smile, “and I’ll show you.”
“All right. I’ll meet you at the front door.”
“No, no! You have to sneak out!”
“What? Why? My grandma won’t care, you know!”
“I know. But it’s more fun this way! Come on!”
All of a sudden, the ground looked even father away than before. Your eyes had adjusted enough that you could make out various dark shapes against it. One tall, moving shadow was probably your boyfriend...if your boyfriend was made for ants. You were on the second floor, and there was nothing to climb down on. What did he expect you to do, –
“Jump!” he called.
“Are you crazy?” Perhaps Hayato had been right about Takeshi’s intelligence after all. “I’m not jumping out a second-story window!”
“’ll catch you!”
You could no longer keep the edge of hysteria out of your voice. “Why can’t I just use the stairs?”
“Because we’re having an adventure,” he said, as though this were the most natural thing in the world.
“Do I have to?”
“Yep!”
“Fine. But if I end up with a broken leg, I am so breaking up with you.”
“Sounds like a deal.” Good grief. You could hear him smiling still. At least you did see the Takeshi shadow move closer to your grandmother’s house before it opened its arms. “I’m ready.”
You took another deep breath as you stepped out onto the thin window ledge. Below you, the darkness seemed to spin. Well, you had two options: Make the leap and squeeze in a little more time with the first boy you’d ever loved, or turn around, go back to bed, and leave him disappointed. Gulping, you squeezed your eyes shut as tightly as you could.
“Are you coming?” he asked.
Without answering, without opening your eyes, you inched forward two more tiny steps, then threw yourself in the direction of the yard. Your fall was short, but your heart pounded hard the entire way down until you fell with a quiet thump into Takeshi’s waiting arms. He buckled slightly before he stood up again. When your eyes popped opened, you found his smile a mere inch or two above you.
“You okay?” he wanted to know.
“I am now.”
“That was impressive,” he said as he righted you and placed your feet firmly on the ground.
“Yeah, well.” You sounded breathless. “Thanks for catching me.”
“Always! Now, are you ready to go?”
“Lead the way.”
“All right.” His grin broadened. “Let’s make a break for it.”
His excitement was catching. You found yourself nodding along and smiling in return as he spoke. Your eyes darted toward the dark windows of your grandmother’s house. It was unlikely she would be upset at a nighttime jaunt with Takeshi, but he was right–you were having an adventure, and pretending you couldn’t be caught made things a lot more fun.
Takeshi caught your eye and pressed his finger to his lips. You tried not to giggle as you mimicked him. As soon as he made sure you were paying attention, he darted toward a nearby bush. Back and forth he sprinted across the lawn with you in hot pursuit. Only at the gate did he stop to pat your head. This made you giggle outright before you followed him at a brisk trot down the street.
“We made it!” you cried triumphantly.
“We did. Let’s go!”
“Right!”
“Make sure he wears a condom!” your grandmother shouted after you.
You shook your head, but laughed. Behind you, the light in her window shut off as you followed Takeshi away.
******
“This way, come on!” he urged you some five or ten minutes later.
“I’m coming. Where are we going?”
“Hold on. We’re almost there.”
You pushed past another set of branches. Then you saw a large, round clearing sitting in the middle of the young forest. Takeshi stood in the very center as he watched the shifting leaves you came through.
“Here?” you asked.
“Here.”
“What’s here?”
He gestured toward the sky as you neared, but did not give you much time to look at it. As he sat down, he tugged gently on your wrist so that you lowered yourself next to him. You looked up and gasped. Above you hung an inky black expanse studded with twinkling stars. The fluffy branches that ringed your clearly hid the moon, but still you could see a bit of pearly halo drifting past the natural fence.
“It’s really beautiful, Takeshi.”
“Yeah. I wanted you to see it at least once. Before…well, you know.”
“Yeah.” You shut your eyes, leaned your head against his shoulder, and snuggled closer to his neck. “Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For everything. This has been the best summer ever. I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you, too.”
Takeshi’s shoulder shifted. You opened your eyes and sat up. He was looking at you, his face very close to your own. Your breathing slowed as he lifted his hand to cup your chin. The look on his face was so unusually serious that you weren’t sure what to think. Was he okay? Did you need to take him home?
Before either question on your tongue, his lips were on your own. The kiss was was short and sweet. As quickly as it began, it ended, and Takeshi returned his usual, grinning self before he declared:
“It’s been my favorite summer ever, too.”

Chapter 8: Nighttime Summer Carnival
The crowd teemed endlessly all around you. Carnival goers jostled you left and right as they went from stand to stand. You tried your best to force your way through the throng, but this last festival of the summer was obviously a popular one. A sea of people separated you from your friends.
It might have been easier to find them if you hadn't arrived so late. Unfortunately, your grandmother had insisted on you wearing an entirely different yukata to this particular festival--and not just any yukata. She wanted you to wear hers. The modifications she attempted, however, had made the once-beautiful fabric into nothing but an expensive mess. This required an emergency trip to the store to find you something appropriate to be seen in in public. Now wearing a completely unnecessary outfit that included a mask strapped to your head, you despaired of finding the one person your grandmother had gone to all this effort for.
“[Name]!”
You looked up at Tsuna’s voice. It took you a little bit longer than usual to find him. There he was, standing by the chocolate banana stand.
“Tsuna!” you said as you shoved your way to him. “Reborn’s not making you sell things again, is he?”
“Not that I know of. But I wouldn’t be surprised.”
“Me either. That baby is crazy.”
“Tell me about it.”
“Well, sorry I’m late. Grandma, um, had a heart attack.”
This was, of course, an outright lie. She just didn’t want the boys you’d spent your whole vacation with thinking less of her sewing abilities. And if the alternative to spouting this story to anyone who asked was her mailing Takeshi a pair of your undergarments, well...
“Is she all right?”
Of course Tsuna would buy it hook, line, and sinker. “She’s fine now. She just has to watch her red meat intake.”
“Oh.”
“Anyway, why are you here by yourself? Where are Hayato and Takeshi?”
“I don’t know!” Tsuna looked close to tearing his own hair out. “I came by the banana stand thinking Reborn had set them to work again, but they’re not here either.”
You chewed at your lip as you cast your eyes about the fast-moving river of people before you. Hayato missing was a blessing, really, but you only had a few days left. So much for somehow geting Takeshi away from the other two for a few minutes. Not that you minded Tsuna’s company, but
Speaking of the Tsuna, his anxiety only appeared to be growing. Then it hit you:
“Where’s Reborn?”
“That’s what I’m worried about!” he wailed.
“It’s okay. Calm down. Maybe he’s hanging out with Kyoya.” That thought didn’t comfort you much either. On the other hand...“Well, no probably not. He’s probably stalking us.”
“What?”
“It seems to be a hobby of his. Anyway, if Reborn hasn’t done anything yet, he’ll probably wait at least a few more minutes. Let’s go find Takeshi and Hayato, okay?”
Tsuna did not look terribly enthusiastic about your suggestion. Nonetheless, he gave you hesitant nod before following you back into the current. You had to shout to get him to hear over the chatter all around you:
“So where do you think they’ll be?”
“What?”
“I said, ‘Where do you think they’ll be?’”
“Oh! I don’t know. Takeshi usually plays the throwing games, but I didn’t see him there earlier, and–”
“Perfect!” You could have kissed him on the forehead. Instead, you settled for waving and shouting, “Let’s split up! You look for Hayato, and I’ll look for Takeshi! Bye, Tsuna!”
There was no way of telling if he actually heard you before the crowd swept him away, but you had to hope so. Otherwise, Hayato might have been lost forever. Wouldn’t that have just been such a crying shame?
Luckily, the crowd around you soon began to thin. The sun had set entirely, leaving only the bulbs hanging on thin strands crisscrossing the paths to light your way. You caught snatches of conversations that involved the word “fireworks.” Maybe everyone was headed to a better viewing spot.
Your heart dropped a bit at the thought. Perhaps it was silly, but you still wanted to watch them with Takeshi, since you hadn’t go to last time. That plan was beginning to look more and more impossible, though. If you couldn’t find your boyfriend, you couldn’t watch anything with him.
“Oh no! No! Not all my wares! I beg you!”
A sudden cry brought you to a standstill. The voice did not belong to Takeshi, but you stopped at the obvious horror in the words. And of course, who should be there but Reborn coldly ruining some shopkeeper’s life?
“Just put it in the bag,” he said, though the man running the stand remained groveling.
“Hi, Reborn,” you said.
He looked up from his place at the shooting stand, then gave you a quick nod as he cocked the gun. “Good evening, [Name].”
“Tsuna’s afraid you’re looking for him, by the way.”
“Paranoia can be a helpful quality in a boss.” Another bullet zoomed through the obstacles. “If you’re looking for Yamamoto, he’s a few stands over.”
“Thanks.” You darted off again, as you were eager to get away before the game manager started crying again. Sure enough, just as you sprinted around another corner, you heard more sobbing. “Jeez, Reborn can’t be nice to anyone, can he?”
“Oh. There you are.”
You froze and looked up. Headed right toward you was a tall, grinning boy. Despite the fact the pair of you had been dating for several weeks, you could not stop your heart rate from picking up a bit as you answered with a sheepish smile:
“Here I am.”
“I’m glad I found you! The festival is almost over!”
“Yeah, my grandma, she–”
You stopped. Takeshi lifted one arm, the hand of which was wrapped loosely around a fluffy-looking stuffed cat.
“What’s this?” you asked.
“I won it for you,” he explained, “in case you weren’t able to make it. Well, I guess I would have tried to win it anyway, but–”
You cut him off with a hug, then tugged it from his hand. “I love it.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Good. Now you have something to remember me by.”
You had nothing to say to that. At the beginning of the summer, you’d thought you weren’t going to find a single friend. All you had wanted to do was leave Japan as soon as possible. Now you had Tsuna, Takeshi, even Hayato. The thought of going home made you feel ill.
Maybe Takeshi sensed how you were feeling, because the next thing he did was push you away slightly and say, “Hey. Let’s go watch those fireworks.”
Slowly, you nodded. Then, with the hand not wrapped around the cat’s neck, you grabbed his hand.
Takeshi grinned and patted you on the head. “It’ll be okay.”
You took a deep breath, smiled, and looked toward the sky.

Chapter 7: Going to the Beach
“I can’t believe it! We’re finally here!”
“Don’t wander too far, [Name].”
“Oh, don’t worry, Tsuna. I’m not going to get lost.”
“You got lost coming to his house yesterday! We had to look for you for two hours!”
“Oh, shut your face, Hayato.”
“Shut yours, stupid woman!”
“Excellent come back. I’m truly stung. Brav--”
“Both of you shut up.” One of Reborn’s feet slammed into your head, then the other into Hayato’s. “I didn’t bring you out here to argue.”
“You didn’t bring us out here at all!” Tsuna snapped. “We’re the ones that earned the money for a trip to the beach.”
There was a pause as Reborn stared up at Tsuna with his fathomless black eyes. Wordlessly, he reached up for the chameleon perched on his hat. Before Reborn’s fat infant fingers had touched it, Leon transformed into a mallet...that Reborn immediately smashed onto Tsuna’s head this time.
“Tenth!” cried Hayato.
“Tsuna!” said Takeshi.
Both boys rushed to heave the aggrieved to his feet. You, meanwhile, sighed, closed your eyes, crossed your arms, and plopped down into the sand.
“Was that really necessary?” you asked Reborn.
“Of course,” he said.
“Tsuna has a point, you know. I risked my neck to save our funds from that crazy prefect.”
“Shouldn’t you be more concerned about where you are? This is the first time you’ve been to the beach, isn’t it?”
A single eye popped open. Below you, Reborn smirked. One quick look toward the boys told you they were still fussing over Tsuna’s head injury. Another glance in the opposite direction showed you the ocean: wide and big and blue and vacant. Reborn had even pulled some strings to find you a private stretch of beach. You practically itched to dive into the water, but you figured that might seem a little cruel to the boy who had allowed you to join his group of friends.
“They’ll be like that for a while,” Reborn informed you with a smirk.
You stared at him for a half minute more before abruptly standing up. Then you kicked up one leg and made a mad dash for the shoreline, only to stop about a foot away from it to stare in wide-eyed appreciation of the glistening tide.
“It’s the ocean!” you screamed. “It’s the ocean, ocean, ocean!”
“What the hell are you doing, woman?” Hayato asked from somewhere behind you.
“What does it look like I’m doing? It’s the ocean!”
“I can see that, moron. What’s so great about the ocean?”
You jumped slightly to find Hayato right next to you. He had his hands stuffed into this pockets--trust Hayato to not bother to dress for the occasion--and one of signature glares trained directly at the frothing water.
“It’s the first time you’ve seen the ocean, right, [Name]?” Takeshi asked as he joined the two of you.
“Right!” you said.
You were glad to see that Takeshi had followed Hayato out there. Like Reborn said, you hadn’t come all the way out there to continue bickering. Hayato was always available to continue bickering with. Instead of playing right into his hands, you crouched down to drag your fingers through the waves.
“It’s so big and pretty,” you added, when neither of the boys offered anything in the way of conversation.
“It sure is!” said Takeshi.
Hayato snorted. “Yeah. Whatever. I’m going to help the Tenth set up the towels.”
“Okay!”
“Have fun, sourpuss!” you called after him.
He lifted his hand into a rude gesture without turning toward you. You laughed before looking back at the ocean. “It’s really pretty, Takeshi!”
“Want to go for a swim?”
“Can we? But Grandma said I have to use the buddy system.”
“That’s okay. I’ll be your buddy.”
“Really?”
“Really.” He took your hand and wrapped his fingers firmly around your own. “Ready?”
“Ready!”
You saluted him with your free hand. Takeshi grinned, then took a step into the water. Your heart sped up for a moment before you resolved to not be afraid. It was silly to expect to be swept away so close to the beach. Besides, your boyfriend kept a firm grip on your hand as the two of you waded a little deeper. Surely he wouldn’t you drown.
With that in mind, you took a deep breath and splashed after him into the waves. “It’s warm!”
“Of course it’s warm.”
“Well, in that case, it should be okay.”
“What should be okay?”
“This!” You released his hand so that you submerge yourself in the shallows. He laughed, completely unsuspecting of your true intent. When you resurfaced, you brought with you quite a bit of water, all of which you threw in his general direction. “That’s for throwing me in the pool!”
Takeshi blinked. Clearly he had not seen the face full of water coming. As it dripped off the now-soaked tips of his hair, he broke into a broad grin. “And you think you’ll get away with that?”
You plunked down next to the shore. Maybe there’d be seashells. “I will, because the ocean loves me.”
“That’s not what it told me.”
“Then it lied to make you feel better,” you said absently.
“Well, if that’s what you want to believe. It told me a secret though.”
“A secret?”
“Uh-huh.”
“What is it?”
“Are you sure you want to know?”
Now you looked right up at him. “Tell me!”
“Well, all right.” Takeshi bent down. His knees never dunked below the water, but he moved his head so that his lips were practically against your ear. “It told me…”
“What? What?”
“That it loves me more!” He shoved a wave of water so hard at you that it pushed you over.
It took a few seconds for your head  to break the surface once more. You stood, streaming salt water off your shoulders as you licked the taste from your lips.
“What was that for?” you demanded.
He shrugged. “I’m just telling you what the ocean said.”
“I don’t believe that for a minute. The ocean loves me!” You accompanied the last word with another splash.
“No, me!” Takeshi smiled as he splashed you in return.
A split second later, the two of you were involved in a fearsome water war. You would throw water at him; he would knock you over. You would trip him; he would dunk your head underneath the waves. On another one of those occasions, you emerged laughing and wondering if you should beg for mercy.
“Takeshi, hold up. I–”
“Hey, Mister and Missus Idiot!” Hayato’s voice called from further up the beach. “Stop being stupid and get over here! The Tenth wants to eat!”
“Okay!” Takeshi said.
You rolled your eyes, but made to exit the water. Takeshi grabbed your wrist before you could get very far, however.
“Wha–”
He cut you off by pulling you into a hug. You blushed, but hugged him in return.
“How are you enjoying the beach?” he asked.
“I love it.”
“Hurry up!”
“Remind me to dunk him after lunch,” you muttered.
Takeshi just took your hand and laughed.

Chapter 2: Picnic
“And where are you off to in such in a hurry?”
You looked up, breakfast halfway toward your mouth, to see your grandmother smirking at you from the kitchen doorway. Ever since you’d return home from your forced march through the Japanese humidity, she couldn’t seem to stop grinning--like it was all her doing that you’d managed to find some younger people to occupy your time with that summer. And occupy your time with Takeshi, Hayato, Tsuna, and Reborn you had. This only amused her more.
“I’m going somewhere with the boys,” you answered reluctantly.
You grandmother closed her eyes and shook her head. “I send you out to get friends and you come up with a harem. You must be a pretty good kisser, huh?”
“Grandma! It’s not like that!”
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell your father what a harlot you’re turning out to be.”
“Grandma!”
“Oh, don’t be so upright, [Name].” Your grandmother laughed. “I’m just teasing. So do I get to meet these mysterious boys today? Put my two cents in on which one you should go after?”
You opened your mouth to protest once more. Before you could, there was a knock on the door.
“Well? You going to get that?” she asked.
Of course one of them had decided to come get you instead of waiting at the prearranged spot like planned. Heart hammering, you turned away and walked to the front door. It took you a moment to gather your courage to plaster on a smile before allowing whoever was out there in.
“Takeshi!” Just the sight of his grin turned your smile authentic.
“Hi, [Name],” he said. “Ready to go?”
“Completely.” You slipped your shoes on and stepped quickly for the doorstep. Maybe you would get out of having Yamamoto meet your grandmother after all.
“Oh, so this is your little friend!”
What could you do but turn slowly to find your grandmother standing behind you in the hallway.
“Is this your grandmother?” Takeshi asked, but he did not wait for you to answer before smiling at her as well. “I’m Takeshi Yamamoto. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Same here.” Your grandmother winked. “Are you my little [Name]’s boyfriend, then?”
You could have sworn your heart stopped as all the blood in your body rushed up to your cheeks. Well, now you had no other choice: You would have to shove Takeshi back out the door and all the way to where Hayato, Tsuna, and Reborn would be waiting. Nothing Takeshi could say would prevent your grandmother teasing you for so long you’d both miss the day’s activity, and he’d be uncomfortable around you from now on.
But he didn’t miss a beat. He laughed, then said: “I’m just here to pick her up for the picnic.”
“Hm, well–”
“That’s all right! That’s enough! Thanks, Grandma!” you latched onto Takeshi’s nearest arm before yanking him away from your leering relative. “We’ll be back later! Don’t wait up!”
“Okay!” she called after you as you shoved Takeshi back down the path. “Have fun! And remember: no hickeys!”
And with that, she slammed the door behind you.
Takeshi laughed again, seemingly oblivious to the fact that your hands were still pressed against his surprisingly muscular back. As soon as you noticed this yourself, you hastily took them off and looked away. But Takeshi seemed oblivious to this, too.
“I wonder why she doesn’t want you to get any hickeys,” he mused.
“Um…”
Did Takeshi even know what a hickey was? Either way, you really didn’t want to be the one to explain them to him. That could be Tsuna’s job. Then again, Tsuna himself might not have known what a hickey was either.
“What are you idiots just standing there for? Are we leaving or not?” called a familiar irritated vice.
“Good morning to you, too, Hayato. Glad to see you’re as warm and fuzzy as ever,” you said, as the other two boys found you and Takeshi standing outside your grandmother’s house.
Hayato rolled his eyes and lit what was probably his seventh cigarette of the day.
“Is everything okay?” Tsuna asked.
“Everything is fine,” Takeshi answered. “[Name]’s grandma just wanted to make sure we don’t get any hickeys.”
“W-what?!”
“C’mon, No Good Tsuna,” Reborn said. “A hickey is–”
“I know what a hickey is!”
“Way to go, Tenth!” Hayato said.
“I-I’ve never had one!”
You raised your eyebrows. It was amazing how quickly conversations deteriorated with this lot. Hayato could be grouching at you for being slow one minute, and the next everyone would be celebrating Tsuna finally getting some action.
“Um, guys? The picnic?” you said.
Hayato and Tsuna both stopped what they were doing to look at you.
“O-Oh. Right,” Tsuna said with a shaky laugh.
“Tch! If the Tenth is going, I guess I have to come along.”
“Good! Let’s get going before the sushi goes bad,” said Takeshi. “Let’s just make sure not to get any hickies.”
******
“Hey, Takeshi, will you pass me some more sushi?” you asked about an hour later.
“Hm? Oh, sure!” He handed you another box. “I’m really glad you like it!”
“It’s amazing!”
“Is this the first time you’ve had sushi, [Name]?” Tsuna asked after swallowing a bite of his own food.
Unfortunately, you had chosen that moment to cram an entire roll of sushi into your mouth. You shook your head at Tsuna and forced the morsel down your throat, coughing attractively as the food slid roughly into your stomach.
Tsuna cocked his head at you. Hayato, meanwhile, just gave you his best disgusted look as he moved to scoot closer to his boss. Takeshi offered you a carton of milk, which you gratefully took and gulped down.
“N-No,” you finally managed to choke out. “My dad makes sushi all the time at home. It’s not anywhere close to this good, though!”
“Thanks!” said Takeshi.
“Your family really makes this, Takeshi?”
“Yep!”
“It is seriously the best sushi ever.”
Gokudera snorted and muttered something that sounded like, "If by ‘best,’ you mean ‘most disgusting.’"
“Hey, Tsuna, you gonna eat yours?” “Don’t worry. We’ve got plenty more,” Takeshi assured you.
“Well bring it on! I’m starving!”
Unbeknownst to you in that moment, Reborn was watching your interactions with the boys closely. Sooner or later, it would be time to test you for Vongola--and with Reborn, it was always sooner rather than later.

But Uh-Oh Those Summer Nights Master List
Summary: “Summer lovin’ had me a blast / summer lovin’ happened so fast.”
Challenge: “10 Summer Events” by someone on Lunaescence Archives.
Ratings/Warnings/Tags: T (Sexual humor; sexual dialogue; summer vacation; comedy; fluff; eccentric grandparents; Grease references; Takeshi & Hayato & Tsuna; Takeshi & Hayato & Tsuna & Reader; Reborn & Tsuna; Reborn & Reader; Original Character & Reader)
Pairings: Takeshi Yamamoto/Reader
Notes: This is old as dirt! I was just going to leave it as it was when posting it, but the sentence structure was so repetitive that I couldn’t just leave it as is. I think the character voices are strong, though, and if you just want some Daily Life arc-esque shenanigans featuring the KHR boys and fluff, you might find something here to enjoy.
This was, if I remember correctly, the very first fan fiction I ever got a featured story on! I was so proud. It was also a story in which people could vote for the boy they wanted the reader to end up with. Originally, the choices were Tsuna, Takeshi, and Hayato, based on the requirements of the challenge, but commenters eventually wore me down enough to add Hibari. Obviously, Takeshi won, and this is so old I have no interest in writing variants where the other characters win.
I’ll probably have to add more tags as these get posted. It’s been so long ago that I wrote this that I only remember it in broad strokes.
