The first moto I got the holeshot and was feeling insanely good in the lead before they red-flagged the race. I didn’t get the best jump in the re-start and ended up falling down, so it was a tough pill to swallow because I felt like I could have won that first moto. It’s going to be a tough week off just thinking about what I “coulda-shoulda-woulda” done but it’s definitely good motivation to go into High Point and get back to where I belong. I’ve shown people that I obviously have the speed and the fitness, I just need to put it all together. Mathew Scholtz Named Official Rider For Yamalube/Westby Racing The 2017 racing season is just around the corner. Begin Press Release: Yamalube/Westby Racing “Turns It Up To 11” For 2017 With South African Mathew Scholtz As Official Team Rider Tulsa, OK – February 8, 2017 – Yamalube/Westby Racing is proud to announce that it has named 2016 South African SuperGP Champion Mathew Scholtz as its official team rider for the 2017 MotoAmerica Series. The announcement was made by Tryg Westby, principal owner of Yamalube/Westby Racing. Mathew will compete in MotoAmerica’s Superstock 1000 Championship. He’ll be aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1, with the team’s brand-new #11 emblazoned across the front and sides of the iconic gold-and-black-liveried, Yamalube-branded motorcycle. In 2016, Mathew raced in MotoAmerica’s Superstock 1000 class, initially for another team before he joined Yamalube/Westby Racing for round seven of the nine-round series, at Utah Motorsports Campus (UMC) in Tooele, UT. At UMC, Mathew notched two podium results in his very first race weekend with the team. He went on to record three more second-place finishes in the final two rounds of the 2016 MotoAmerica season, ending up seventh overall in the final Superstock 1000 Championship points standings. After the 2016 MotoAmerica season concluded, Mathew went back to his homeland of South Africa, where he had been contesting the 2016 SuperGP Championship. Riding his #20 ETR Nashua Yamaha R1, Mathew clinched the National Championship at Red Star Raceway outside Delmas, South Africa, on October 29. For 2017, Mathew will focus his road racing efforts exclusively on the MotoAmerica Superstock 1000 Championship. “I am very proud to have won the 2016 SuperGP Championship in my home country of South Africa,” Mathew said. “But, for 2017, I am fully committed to racing in the MotoAmerica series, and for Yamalube/Westby Racing. In San Diego @supercrosslive, @justinbarcia moves back up to second in the 450SX points standings, while @aaronplessinger_23 hangs on to his 250SX West Championship lead. ⠀ ⠀ In 450SX, Justin Barcia moved up one spot in the standings, into second place, although he is now 28 points behind Championship leader Jason Anderson. There is still a lot of racing left in the season, however, with 11 rounds still to be run, and if anything, this season has proven that virtually anything can happen.⠀ ⠀ Aaron ran as high as fifth in the main event aboard his #23 @monsterenergy/@yamalubeusa/@starracingyamaha /Yamaha Racing YZ250F before a crash necessitated that he race through the pack from a little farther back for an eventual eighth place at the checkers. The lanky Ohioan still carries a four-point lead in the 250SX West Championship chase.⠀ ⠀ Justin’s teammate @cooperwebb2 (#2) looked to be headed for his best result of the 2018 season after notching the win in 450SX Heat Race 2. But, in the Main Event, Ken Roczen collided with Cooper, and both riders went down hard. @aaronplessinger_23 wins his third 250SX West event of the season & maintains championship lead aboard his YZ250F, while @justinbarcia & @cooperwebb2 race their Factory YZ450F machines to fifth & seventh, respectively, in 450SX. ⠀ ⠀ Carrying the red plates on his #23 @monsterenergy/ @yamalubeusa/@starracingyamaha/Yamaha Racing YZ250F, which identifies him as the current points leader, Aaron won his heat race, but then, he made things a little tougher on himself by starting sixth in the 250SX West Main Event. Despite the adversity, Aaron worked his way to the front to capture his second straight win and third victory of the season, leading eight of the 19 laps. He’s the only rider to maintain the points lead for two consecutive weeks so far this season.⠀ ⠀ “It was probably the hardest race I’ve ever done in my life,” Aaron commented. “But, the guys tell me never quit…and I didn’t.”⠀ ⠀ At the halfway point of the 250SX West Championship, Aaron now leads the series by eight points, while @kylechisholm11 is in eighth and @freckle_52 is in ninth.⠀ ⠀ In 450SX, the fastest qualifier at Oakland was Monster Energy/@knich_life/Yamaha Factory Racing’s Justin Barcia aboard his #51 YZ450F. Justin won his heat race, while Cooper Webb (#2) finished second. Then, in the Main Event, Justin and Cooper both started well outside the top 10 and had to go to work. A few laps into the race, Justin caught up to Eli Tomac and Josh Grant and was able to get past them, then he caught and passed Cole Seely for fifth, which is where he ultimately finished. @cooperwebb2 finds his YZ450F mojo in Arlington, @justinbarcia gets bit by the injury bug, and @coltnichols31 podiums aboard his YZ250F. ⠀ ⠀ On the upside, Cooper Webb qualified second aboard his #2 YZ450F, and he went on to finish sixth in the 450SX Main Event, which was his best result of the season so far. Afterwards, he exclaimed, “Arlington was a step in the right direction! I’m feeling more like myself!” The North Carolina native is looking forward to this weekend’s event in Tampa.⠀ ⠀ On the downside, the injury bug that’s been affecting most of the frontrunners in this year’s 450SX Championship bit Cooper’s teammate Justin Barcia (#51) in Arlington. Justin, who was second in points coming into the night, made a mistake in a rhythm section during Heat Race 1, and he failed to jump one of the track’s triples, which left him in a precarious position on the track. Tyler Bowers couldn’t avoid a collision, and he unfortunately landed on Justin’s right hand.⠀ ⠀ In the season opener of the 250SX East Championship, @monsterenergy/@yamalubeusa/@starracingyamaha/Yamaha Racing's Colt Nichols (#31) started seventh in the Main Event, but he fought hard and wound up as runner-up on the night. It was a remarkable start to the season for the Oklahoman, who is coming off a broken arm that he suffered in testing at the end of 2017.⠀ ⠀ Colt’s teammate @dylanferrandis (#24) qualified second and then finished second in Heat Race #1, so things were looking promising for the Frenchman in the Main Event.
