are there any problematic motogp riders i should know about or avoid?
Hi anon 👋👋. oh boy I'm going to get so much hate for this
You all people need to stop putting riders into pedestals and thinking they are perfects because they are not. They are humans, and they all have faults (some more visible than others). Also what someone considers problematic might not be for others. Like for example, Vale and Marc are both experts in manipulate the media to suit their narratives and that can be a red flag for some people. Or maybe Aleix being too direct can be seen as negative because his mouth has put him in so much trouble.
Anyway said this here (under the cut for those who want to avoid it) it is what I remember at the moment. If anyone wants to add something, feel free to do it.
First of all we have a lot of riders and engineers living in Andorra that is tax haven (Aleix, Pol, Rins, Fabio Q., Iker, Joan, Brad, Miller and The Team Suzuki ECSTAR crew used to live there, also Maverick used to live in Andorra (apparently he went back to Roses after having his daughter)). And Rossi also used to live in London and got in troubles for that.
Then we have the misogynistic comments from Miller (he said something of mocking a friend every time he lost in a race against María Herrera, the borderline treatment Vanessa, the Inside Pass host get from him and the mockery) and Pecco Bagnaia who said 'I was like a women in my period complaining ad moaning' after he broke his leg. Oh and don't forget Miller called other riders princesses for complaining about their bike instead of just riding it.
And we have racist comments from Yamaha's test rider Cal Crutchlow who refused to shake hands with an Asian fan during the pandemic and said something about all of it (pandemic) being because someone eat something he shouldn't. Probably there is more, but I don't really remember. And the worst part is that his team manager, Lucio Cecchinello covered it all. Lucio is also not a saint, he treats differently Rins than he does with Nakagami (brought Rins to his museum and told him to get a podium because it will be X (I can't remember probably 50 or 100) podium of the team, but I can't remember him doing it with Nakagami. There's also Gelete Nieto (Moto2 team manager (Correos Prepago Yamaha VR46 Master Camp or something like that)) who literally said that Asian riders do much worse that the European ones.
Then we have Fabio Quartararo, who had endangered himself and other riders by riding with his leathers open and throwing the chest protector in the middle of a race track while there was a race going on. And when celebrating a victory, we throw a golf a ball where there was still bikes on track.
And Pecco Bagnaia during the 2022 summer got drunk in Ibiza, got in the car and had an accident (crashed it into a roundabout) and only got a slap in the wrist. He also dedicated a special helmet to Dennis Rodman (if you don't know him, go and read his wiki page). There something less controversial about him, but still put him as a red flag. When he doesn't get what he wants, he goes to the media and cry and gets it. He also believes no one can race him on a race on the race track and never will admit his mistakes. And because we are on the Pecco topic, Ducati just put all o this under the rug and gives him whatever he wants. Ducai actually banned one jorno for commenting on one of this thing because it annoyed Pecco.
And let's not forget Johann Zarco, the dirtiest rider of all! He is like a kid on the track, when he knows he is going to lose and he doesn't want to and got the wired crossed, he does dumb stuff to endanger other riders. He recently had an incident that ended in red flag, and was the cause that Maverick and Vale where reborn during Race 1 in Austria 2020. And previously he tried to grab the break of another rider at the end of a race (last lap, after the final corner) because he knew he was going to lose de to the slipstream (Zarco was fighting for the championship that year and winning that race would have helped him)! Fortunately nothing happened in there but it could have ended in disaster.
And the ex-riders:
Dani Pedrosa, actually spend a night in jail for cheating on a boat exam and got arrested. He apologised immediately even if it wasn't necessary.
Aspar (MotoGP legend and Moto2, Moto3 and MotoE team owner) and Jorge Lorenzo got in trouble with the Spanish public tresor.
#Ask#Anon#MotoGP#Oh boy this is going to cost me so many followers#but anyway feel free to add#I think Joan or Binder were accused of doing a black face too but I'm not sure and I haven't seen any prove of it#while I have witnessed all of the others (unfortunately)

at least motogp channel did put sete in valentino’s rivalries vid for their vale tribute HA the valentino snipers did not get to them in time ig https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=63oLIUbRT6M
(video) it's still one of the Big Five Feuds!! admittedly to most people it's fifth of fifth, but it can't be displaced!! he had two title fights with the man!! pepperidge farm will NOT forget!!
genuinely when I sat down to watch the 2004 season for the first time and watched mugello, catalunya, assen... honestly I think I may have watched them straight up in a row because I just couldn't stop myself? like that shit hit SO good and I had this moment of?? why isn't everyone talking about these races ALL THE TIME. I'd never even heard them mentioned?? and okay the answer to that could be 'well they happened in 2004', but they don't even come up that much in discussion of old races!! they're all bangers, they're all DIFFERENT bangers, a real range of flavour that all heavily feature the same two title protagonists. they change the championship picture completely in a way where okay with the benefit of hindsight you can go 'oh ho ho valentino was always going to win that title' - well no he wasn't! valentino showed up in mugello with the wooden medal helmet for a reason! it was his first yamaha season and after that initial welkom high, he did look like he was in trouble! and you get those races to completely change the tone of the title fight?? not crashes, not just dumb mistakes, a direct contest! individually all three of those races would be a decent shout for best or second best race in a lot of seasons, let's be honest. as back-to-back-to-back races, the only trio of races that is even in the same DIMENSION this century are austria/silverstone/misano 2019 - which is undoubtedly a great shout too in all being bangers and having a sort of mini storyline arc with a fantastic conclusion, but it does feature different protagonists and also has less than zero championship implications. plus the biggest interpersonal relationship story we got out of that trio involved a rider who literally wasn't even involved in any of those duels, which is objectively pretty funny and speaks to the lasting power of that particular feud - BUT!! it's not quite the same thing as the 2004 trio
genuinely valentino is so lucky biaggi showed up at welkom to do the dramatic duel with him so that's the crowning achievement everyone remembers from the yamaha switch. like the way the pr works is that - well, people vaguely remember biaggi being the big rival for valentino at some point in his early years and valentino beat him at welkom for his first yamaha win so that might as well be the only important race of that season?? which. the biaggi thing ALREADY wasn't the main rivalry at the start of 2004!! valentino's getting away with a massive act of historical revisionism through dumb coincidence!! literally you can make the argument that this is the only real one-on-one race duel biaggi and valentino EVER have, it's not their only memorable battle (suzuka + phillip island 2001 obviously) but it is the only one in that category of race-long one-on-one! and it just HAPPENED to fall exactly then, which is obviously extremely valentino because he loves having everything work out that way for narrative reasons. but it's also super convenient! by the evidence of the entire 2003-05 period, it is so so so much more likely that duel happens with sete! it'd be unfair to call it a biaggi cameo appearance since he was still a serious factor until honda promoted him to their factory team in 2005 (I have many unanswered questions about what on earth honda was doing with their line up for much of the early noughties) and finished p3 in the standings in both 2003 as 2004, plus there was a time in 2004 where biaggi was super close to the championship lead after... uh. rio? actually no I double checked, after sachsenring he was a point off valentino. point being, biaggi was absolutely a factor but not really in terms of on-track battles!! the actual duels were happening almost entirely between valentino and sete, with ONE exception. of course valentino gets to say his favourite career win was against biaggi. twat
anyway after writing all this out. I did actually click on the video. and. they left oUT ASSEN 2004!! THEY LEFT IT OUT!! THAT WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE END YOU FOOLS YOU AMATEURS THERE WAS LAST LAP CONTACT!! WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO INCLUDE A RACE?? IS A LAST LAP OVERTAKE WITH SUBSEQUENT CONTACT WITH OBVIOUS POST-RACE TENSION NOT ENOUGH FOR YOU??? WHAT'S THE STANDARD HERE??
on the other hand, you could say that if a rivalry is so high quality on track that they don't even include a race like that, then it has to be an absolute all timer. I rest my case
#every time i get a sete ask it's something special to me#pr war hyping up a two decade old rivalry. we'll get there#//#brr brr#batsplat responds#also personally i would've included phillip island 2006 because it ALSO is a last lap duel AND it's their last ever :(#the thing about phillip island 2001 is that it's an objectively bonkers way to seal your title and it WAS the first#BUT but but!! phillip island 2004 was a way way more fragile championship situation!! that's another one that doesn't get discussed#also for fans of narrative. phillip island 2001 does not tell you anything you didn't already know about valentino. 2004 doesssss#curse tag

Eduardo "Adú" Celso Santos 1945 / 2005
In the first half of the 1970s, he moved to the Netherlands to compete in the World Championship from 1972 to 1975. There he earned the nickname "Brazilian Indian" because of his long, straight, black hair. His best performance was in 1973, when he achieved his only victory, the first by a Brazilian, in the Spanish Grand Prix, at the Jarama Circuit in the 350cc category, a feat that would only be equaled twenty years later by Alexandre Barros in 1993, curiously also in the Spanish Grand Prix and at the same Jarama Circuit, but in the 500cc category (the main class of the World Championship). After returning to Brazil, he devoted himself to car racing, retiring in 1984. He died on February 6, 2005, at the age of 59, from a heart attack. MotoGP Career:
Years Active: 1972 - 1975

Hi Waru! I wanted to ask you because you seem to know a lot about moto2 stuff, but how much of a difference does it really make if you’re on a kalex or boscoscuro? Or is it more the team itself that makes the difference? (and the rider ofcourse)
Hi there anon 👋👋👋👋👋
It really depends on the rider and the team really. Let's go back for a moment to 2022, when Arón said that 'Boscoscuro has to be ridden like Marc Márquez, while a Kalex is ridden like Álex Rins' he had ridden both bikes, so he does understand. This tells us that a Boscoscuro is an aggressive bike, which doesn't necessarily mean their rider has to be aggressive, and a Kalex is a gentle bike. So kind of a Kalex is like a Suzuki/Ducati/Yamaha while a Kalex is more like a Honda or a KTM.
Now each bike has their own differences. A Boscoscuro chasis will prefer a flowy track such as Aragón, Philipp Island, Argentina (which is also a low grip track) or Silverstone. The Kalex on the other hand seems to work better in twisty and Stop&Go tracks such as Catalunya or Austria. On top of that, until the Pirellis, the Boscoscuro seems to work better in low grip conditions, Pedro himself said that, hence why Fermín did such an amazing job in the Asian and Australian leg of the championship last year.
This year, however, the Boscoscuro bikes have said over and over again that their bike prefers the soft compound. Alonso in more than one occasion has said that the bike demanded the soft tyre. And the MSI team had said the choose to put the hard compound to study how it'll work when they are forced to use it, meaning that bike has clearly a preference. This make me think that they might have a grip issue this year. It also adds up when you look at the results and you see that Kalex has been better than them at their strong tracks. Maybe it's just an adaptation issue that will be solved by next year as in general Boscoscuro has a solid and competitive package.
Now, about the teams, it influences in 2 ways. The first one is when a suplier like Kalex has that many teams (12) and riders (24), they have to choose the 'top' teams. Meaning not all the teams have the same material or get it later. On the top of my mind, top teams are KTM, Italtrans, Marc VDS, Gresini and Yamaha. This blows my mind because Fantic had better results but is not a top team according to to Kalex.
That same thing applies to the riders because top teams will have more saying than other, and that translated on how they help or hinder the bike development.
On the other hand, as Boscoscuro is as small manufacturer, they allow all riders to give their opinion and feelings on the bike. It also allow them to share all the date. They still decided who get the material first, and so far it's been first Fermín, second Alonso then the MSI team. This might change now that the Marc VDS also got the bike, and apparently Yamaha master camp too.
The second way a team can affect the riders, it's the teams dynamic. This is why a rider like Roberts struggle in Italtrans, but is doing much better in American Racing. Their rider advisor (ex-rider) took him under the wing and help him settle in London where most of the team lives. This helped him more settle. That same team dynamic is also what makes some rider feel more heard or ignoring and increase their confidence. An example of this is Arón, in the Pons team he was very heard and he was given what he asked, however what he needed is someone who told him 'no, focus on what you have before making the changes' whenever he got lost, and he got it with Jairo Carriles.
Now rider's innate riding style does affect because it means they will need to change their riding style more or less. It's also about how quic they adapt or can change their riding style and their ability to change it.
Overall, it depends on each rider, but overall, I will said it's the rider's riding style and their ability to change it is what will affect more.
I hope this helps anon.

My thoughts ahead of this weekend’s action!
Originally I was planning on doing another preview for one of the races this weekend, however, with Formula E and IndyCar being totally unpredictable, and this being the 2nd weekend in Austria for MotoGP, doing a preview of one event didn’t feel right!
So, instead I decided I would put some brief thoughts of mine on the racing we may see these next few days!
Formula E
I have no idea where to begin with FE, as there are so many possibilities for this season’s champion! I expect that if a driver is able to get from Group 1 into Superpole, that could be the key to winning the title, unless multiple drivers do it! Also, Mercedes and DS Techeetah were fast here last year, so De Vries is clearly the favourite going into the weekend, although that means nothing in this series!
I fear this could be another year where Jaguar come up short, as Mitch really struggled here last year, having come into the 6 race season finale as a big title contender! My biggest hope is that the championship is not decided just on the qualifying groups, there are a few drivers out there who really deserve this title, and it would be a shame to lose it that way!
MotoGP
Pramac are looking good again this weekend, with Zarco being able to break the circuit record in FP1, which is incredibly rare to see! The factory Ducati team need to up their game, as this isn’t the first time this year they have been beaten fair and square by their customer team.
Their biggest threat will likely be Mir, as I am sure that the more he practices using the rear ride height device, the better he will get at it, so could be even stronger this time around! My outside bet would be KTM, as the race pace shown by Binder last Sunday was impressive, if they can get on the front 3 rows of the grid, you never know what could happen!
If Quartararo can come out of there with another top 5 or even podium, it would be a reason for celebration for Yamaha, as they are looking rock solid so far!
IndyCar
Back again at the IMS Road Course, where many drivers will be wanting to launch themselves into title contention. I honestly think that Grosjean could be a major threat for the win again, as it was a breakthrough weekend for him back in May here, and that could give him confidence this time around! Harvey could be another shout, as he has always gone very well around this track
Between Dixon and Palou, it is looking very tough for anyone to overhaul the might of Chip Ganassi Racing. McLaren with O’Ward have come off the rails a bit, and Newgarden even if he puts on a late charge, could be too far away!
Most of all I just hope we won’t regret coming back to IMS again this year, as it doesn’t always produce the best racing in the world!
I hope you liked this different sort of piece, and if you preferred it to my usual weekend previews please do let me know! Hope you are all well, and enjoy the weekend of racing!
-M

so maverick did a live interview in spanish and i don’t spanish well so here is what i can remember from the 45 minutes in which i only stared at his new hairstyle which is 💞💕✨💖
he‘s currently watching the seven deadly sins because he’s a fucking otaku, in general when asked what he does in his trailer during race weekends he said he watched anime and tv shows if not doing sports or being with the team
unfortunately he likes chelsea fc
when asked what changed from last year to this he said he is a lot calmer now and tries to work steadily and always improve in small steps
he‘s going to try a new setup again in misano but he’s positive and looking forward to it
talked about the yamaha engine situation but i didn’t understand that part
listens to linkin park before races and likes trap music
said that he is very surprised about dovi‘s decision
said that jack is a fast and great rider (just bros being supportive)
he‘s happy with the team and they are working hard on the bike bc they know what they need to work on apparently
talked a lot about what happened in austria 1 and 2
@babydrosa if you can rewatch the tik tok live it would be amazing to get some translation on the yamaha engines part 🥰
#he also talked about a girl from andorra but i didn‘t understand the question#honeslty i mostly focused on his stunning face and he cute expressions and his smile and forgot what he was talking about#maverick viñales#motogp

About Barry
Barry Sheene, Motorcycling's first superstar
Earlier Life
Born in London, Barry was the second child of parents Frank (resident engineer at the Royal College of Surgeons, himself a former competitive rider who retired in 1956 and an experienced motorcycle mechanic) and Iris. He grew up in Queen Square, Holborn, London. Before entering road racing Sheene found work as a messenger and delivery driver.
Racing Career
Barry first started to race in 1968, winning his first races at Brands Hatch riding father Frank's 125 cc and 250 cc Bultacos. He became the British 125cc champion at age 20 in 1970. In 1971 riding an ex-works 1966 10-speed Suzuki twin, previously ridden by Stuart Graham he finished second in the 125 cc World Championship. His first Grand Prix win coming on that bike at Spa in Belgium, soon followed by a win on a 50 cc Van Veen Kreidler at Brno in Czechoslovakia, where he finished over two and a half minutes ahead.
For 1972 Barry was signed to the works Yamaha team for the 250 cc World Championship. However, at the third round in Austria, after losing a sprint to the finish line to the Australian John Dodds for third place, he voiced his displeasure to team management about the performance of the bike and was dropped from the team with immediate effect. His works Yamaha YZ635 was then given to the Finnish rider, Jarno Saarinen who went on to use the bike to win the World Championship that year.
Barry was signed by Suzuki during the off season 1972–1973 and won the newly formed Formula 750 European championship for them in 1973. As a works Suzuki rider Sheene had two contracts, with the World Championship events taking precedence over his Suzuki GB contract for home and International events, if any race dates clashed.
For 1974 Suzuki introduced the RG500 which Sheene rode to a second, third and a fourth scoring 30 points and finishing sixth in the World Championship.
A spectacular crash at the Daytona 200 in the 1975 season threatened to end his career, breaking his left thigh, right arm, collarbone and two ribs, yet he recovered and was racing again seven weeks afterwards. Again riding the RG500 he scored a memorable first 500 cc win at the Dutch TT.
In the 1976 season, he won five 500cc Grands Prix, bringing him the World Championship. He took the Championship again in the 1977 season with six victories. For the 1977 season Sheene was partnered by Steve Parrish, who rode Barry's 1976 Suzuki 500 cc machine.
Barry's battle with Roberts at the 1979 British Grand Prix at Silverstone has been cited as one of the greatest motorcycle Grand Prix races of the 1970s. After the 1979 season, he left the Heron-Suzuki factory team, believing that he was receiving inferior equipment to his team-mates. He switched to a privateer on a Yamaha machine, but soon started receiving works equipment. In 1981, Kenny Roberts the reigning World 500cc Champion for the third time in succession. Sheene, by now on a competitive Yamaha, was determined to take the championship from him. Ironically, Sheene and Roberts battled all season and let Suzuki riders Marco Lucchinelli of Italy and American Randy Mamola beat them for the top two spots. Roberts finished third and Sheene fourth in the final World Championship standings.
A crash at Silverstone where Sheene, riding his Yamaha, hit the obscured fallen machine of Frenchman Patrick Igoa during practice for the 1982 British Grand Prix largely ended his potential as a title threat, and he retired in 1984. He remains the only rider to win Grand Prix races in the 50cc and 500cc categories.
Barry was known for being outspoken in his criticism for what he considered to be dangerous race tracks, most notably, the Isle of Man TT course, which he considered too dangerous for world championship competition. He was a colourful, exuberant character who used his good looks, grin and London accent to good effect in self-promotion, and combined with an interest in business was one of the first riders to make a lot of money from endorsements. He is credited with boosting the appeal of motorcycle racing into the realm of the mass marketing media. He also tried his hand as a TV show host, including the ITV series Just Amazing!, where he interviewed people who had, through accident or design, achieved feats of daring and survival (including the former RAF air gunner, Nicholas Alkemade, who survived a fall of 18,000 feet without a parachute from a blazing Avro Lancaster bomber over Germany in March 1944). Sheene and his wife Stephanie also starred in the low-budget film Space Riders.
Personal Life
In 1975 while on crutches, Barry met model Stephanie McLean, the couple married in 1984, having a son Freddie and daughter Sidonie.
Emigration to Australia
The Sheene family moved to Australia in the late 1980s, in the hope that the warmer climate would help relieve some of the pain of Barry's injury-induced arthritis, settling in a property near the Gold Coast. He combined a property development business with a role as a commentator on motor sport. He began on SBS TV then moved to the Nine Network with Darrell Eastlake, and finally followed the TV broadcast rights of the Grand Prix motorcycle series to Network Ten. Further to this, on Network Ten Barry co-hosted the weekly motor sport television show RPM from 1997 to 2002 with journalist Bill Woods, and was involved in Ten's coverage of other motor sport including V8 Supercars for several years.
In the 1990s, Barry appeared in a series of well known and popular television advertisements for Shell, with Australian motor sport icon Dick Johnson. In later years, Barry became involved in historic motorcycle racing, often returning to England to race at Donington Park. He was also chosen to run with the Queen's Baton in the run-up to the 2002 Commonwealth Games held in Manchester, England.
Death
In July 2002, at the age of 52, Barry was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus and stomach. Refusing conventional treatments involving chemotherapy, Barry instead opted for a holistic approach involving a strict diet devised by Austrian healer Rudolf Breuss, intended to starve the cancer of nourishment. He died peacefully surrounded by his family at a hospital on Queensland's Gold Coast in 2003, aged 52, having suffered from the condition for eight months.
Honours and Awards
Following reconstruction of the Brands Hatch Circuit in England for safety concerns after requests by the F.I.M., the Dingle Dell section was changed for safety, and shortly after Barry's death the new section was renamed Sheene's Corner in his honour. The FIM named him a Grand Prix "Legend" in 2001. For the 2003 season, V8 Supercars introduced a medal in honour of Barry, the Barry Sheene Medal, for the 'best and fairest' driver of the season. A memorial ride from Bairnsdale, Victoria to Phillip Island is held by Australian motorcyclists annually, before the MotoGP held at the island.
In Popular Culture
On a side note, the obscure Eric Idle song "Mr. Sheene" which describes "Mr. Sheene's riding machine" appears to be about Barry Sheene. It was released as a B-side of the 1978 single "Ging Gang Goolie" and is credited as released by Rutles-offshoot duo "Dirk and Stig." He is also featured on one of Artist Grayson Perry's Vases My Heroes (1994). Barry also featured in a number of Brut adverts alongside boxer Henry Cooper.
