Israel - Jerusalem Yad Vashem (Holocaust Museum)
To understand Israel, one have to understand the history of its people. The traumatic peak of the Jewish diaspora was the so-called holocaust in the 1930’s in Europe. The official website of Yad Vashem explains: “The Holocaust was unprecedented genocide, total and systematic, perpetrated by Nazi Germany and its collaborators, with the aim of annihilating the Jewish people. The primary…

One of a series of photographs inspired by the lives of the Ulma family of Markowa, Poland.
"Józef Ulma, a farmer, and his wife Wiktoria sheltered eight Jews in their home in the village of Markowa in what is now southeast Poland but was then under German-Nazi occupation. The couple did so despite the fact that the punishment for helping Jews was death for an entire family. After being denounced by a local policeman, on 24 March 1944 Józef and the pregnant Wiktoria, along with their six children ranging in age from two to eight years old, were murdered by German gendarmes after first being forced to witness the execution of the Jews they had been hiding." - (via NFP)
The beatification of the Ulma family will take place on 10 September 2023 in Markowa, Poland. - ipn.gov.pl

Holocaust survivor Yitshak Perlmutter was born in Makó, Hungary in 1935.
He and his family were held in a stadium near Szeged and placed on a train to Auschwitz-Birkenau, which was rerouted to the Mattersdorf concentration camp in Austria.
After the war, Yitshak made his way to Eretz Israel, where he played a crucial role in the early days of the IDF. In fact, his battalion was placed at Yad Vashem during the Six Day War!
“I would do anything if I could turn back time and return to the moment when my family was still whole, before the devastation of the Holocaust. Every human being has the opportunity to choose between good and evil. Essentially, it is a question of education. We must educate towards tolerance in the world.  If we can learn to appreciate others, the world can truly be a wonderful place for all."
-Yitshak Perlmutter: This portrait photo was taken by @martinschoeller as part of the exhibition “Survivors: Faces of Life after the Holocaust.”

The Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem is one of the most impressive museums you can visit while touring the Holy Land. The story unlike the old museum is not meant to shock the visitors or to traumatize them by showing them a pile of glasses or a heap of human here. On the contrary, it meant for those that need to hear the story for the first time there it meant more to educate and retell the story from the very basic concepts. In this photo you can see the past gallery in the museum called the Hall of Names where over 4M names of victims who f the Holocaust are kept. • • • • • • #israel #yadvashem #jerusalem #holocasut #history #history #holyland #instagram #picoftheday #travel #travelphotography #jewish #ww2 #museum (at Yad Vashem: World Holocaust Center, Jerusalem) https://www.instagram.com/p/CSsUluJKcef/?utm_medium=tumblr

Over 6 million Jews were killed as the primary targets of genocide and eradication in the hands of the Nazis and in the hands of those supported the Nazis actively or quietly. Over 6 million documented Jews were killed. My grandparents are survivors and heroes of the Holocaust, the Shoah. The vast majority of my grandparents’ family and friends and communities were killed along with the more than two-thirds of European Jews who were brutally eradicated by the Nazis and their collaborators. 75 Years ago, Nazis fled Auschwitz, one of the main killing centers of the Nazi war machine. While the Nazis were losing the war, they continued to kill Jews as a primary focus of their agenda. As the Nazis fled many of the concentration and death camps, they took many of the remaining Jewish prisoners on death marches, if they could walk, my grandfather was among these prisoners on the death march. The tortures continued as the Nazi machine continued after Auschwitz and other camps were liberated by the Americans, Russians, and allied forces. I understand the gift of life that I have, because I am descended from those who were lucky to survive the horrors of where Anti-Jewish rhetoric and actions can lead. I will always stand up, with my voice and actions, against Anti-Jewish attacks and against any hate-filled attacks agains others. I do so in honor of my grandparents, the other survivors, and in honor of the millions of documented and undocumented who were tortured, brutalized, attacked, and killed. #auschwitz #auschwitzbirkenau #auschwitzconcentrationcamp #auschwitzmemorial #auschwitz75 #shoah #shoahfoundation #holocaust #holocaustremembranceday #holocaustmemorial #holocaustsurvivor #holocaustmemorialday #thirdgeneration #grandchildofsurvivors #shoahmemorial #yadvashem @uscshoahfoundation @yadvashem @yadvashemusa @holocaustmuseum @auschwitzmemorial (at Auschwitz Memorial / Muzeum Auschwitz) https://www.instagram.com/p/B74JL7HBo96/?igshid=i6q223b8rkil
