Finished the book. I didn't actually dislike it as much as I expected to--I am a more empathetic person than I was in high school, I suspect--but man, Holden is exhausting. #YAClassicsBlogathon #TheCatcherInTheRye #YAclassics #YALit #YAbooks

Alrighty so I guess if I'm going to blog about this in a couple of weeks, I have to actually, like, read it first... I've been putting it off because it's one of the few in my #YAClassicsBlogathon I've actually read before, but all I remember is that I hated it. I guess it's time to find out why... #TheCatcherInTheRye #YAbooks #YALit #YAclassics

Every description I've seen of this book has been along the lines of "It doesn't really have a plot, but it's super good." 75 pages in, that seems pretty accurate--descriptions like this make me willing to keep reading pages about these women doing nothing in particular. #ATreeGrowsInBrooklyn #YAClassicsBlogathon

I really want to like this section about Meg and John, where the moral is that hey, marriage and parenthood are hard, and require actual effort and partnership. The problem is that it's basically all condescending to Meg about how she's failing to be a perfect wife and mother (and John, of course, is faultless). It really feels like a precursor to the modern shaming of women who try to Have It All but fail to achieve perfection. #LittleWomen #YAClassicsBlogathon

Themes of this book seem to be: 1) What makes you American; 2) Men are basically useless. #YAClassicsBlogathon #ATreeGrowsInBrooklyn

Today was a perfect day to sit in a park and finish reading my book. I'll try to get my thoughts together for my #YAClassicsBlogathon in a couple days, but in the meantime I'm going to take a walk and enjoy the sun. Yay spring!

I wasn't really a tomboy, but man do I identify with this. Everything I owned was stained, ripped, wrinkled, or broken from roughly ages 4 to.... uh. *looks at stains on sweatshirt guiltily* #LittleWomen #YAClassicsBlogathon

I know this is supposed to be inspiring character growth, but all I can think is yay repression. :/ #YAClassicsBlogathon #LittleWomen

"The tension between female obligation and artistic freedom" is a REALLY good way of summing up this book. (From the introduction by Elaine Showalter.) #LittleWomen #YAClassicsBlogathon
