Transcript: I hate when stories have NM's Gang or Dream treat Cross like a sad innocent ignorant bean who needs to be defended from everything and characterizes Cross like he's the "baby brother" of the Gang. I'm open to out-of-character stuff (I'm an AU fan and love AU reimaginings) and can suspend my disbelief a lot but I LOATHE this characterization for Cross. Even the most well-meaning of Dreams and family-coded of Gangs isn't going to be [over]protective of Cross because "he's the youngest of the group, so new to the Multiverse, and is so vulnerable" - which he isn't. The Gang are all around the same age except Nightmare and maybe Horror. Cross might be physically older than Dust and Killer since decades passed in Xtale (21 years if the comic is anything to go by) while they were stuck resetting. Yet he's the one made into the innocent baby brother caricature. Cross is a determined, traumatized, sometimes silly, angry, cow-fearing, regretful, and motivated grown-ahh 30-31 year-old soldier who traveled his world for years, fought in a war, was a Royal Guard, and was betrayed by and then killed everyone in his home. He is not a defenseless child who is confused by death, hides behind the other Gang members and constantly clings to their hands when someone looks at him funny, and needs to be taught how to fight or how a toaster works. It'd be one thing if Cross was changed to be a kid when this characterization is used but no, he's supposed to be a post-TimelineX adult Cross. It feels like some in the fandom want an infantilized Papyrus on NM's Gang and chose to force Cross into that character role. Ick, ew, and no thanks. Rant over.

Okay here's my story!

I got really into Undertale around 2018. It was cool and I thought Matpat's Undertale theories made 100% sense (I still really like the left Brian right brain theory regardless of how true it is).

I think the first time I was exposed to an AU was Newscapepro (I haven't watched him in years so I don't remember if that was his name or not) and for the second season of his Minecraft Undertale series it took place in Underfell.

I... didn't really like it. I liked Flowey and thought that the concept was cool. But seeing these silly characters be mean was a bit much for my naive and sensitive past self. Newscapepro's season 3 was full of UTMV stuff and I was SSSSOOOO confused. Not to mention that a lot of videos that were canon happened in between and I was watching hide n seek Idahotale or something to try and figure out who this evil Frisk was or that evil goop was, or how we went from bizarro Undertale to THE MULTIVERSE. I think after all of that, only Underfell and Underswap stuck out in my head as I just moved on.

I figured it all out a little while later that these were AUs but at this point I was kind of put off. (I also knew that Sans was the most popular AU character too cuz there was like a council of Sanses in that season 3.)

(I also saw Glitchtale at this time and that also got complicated and weird. Not to mention all the drama that I didn't even know about at that time. I think I stopped after Frisk was gone. I dont really want to talk about that series for obvious reasons so lets move on.)

But even though I never got into the AUs, I held a lot of love for Undertale and would still watch a lot of Undertale content and for Deltarune when that came out.

Cut to the end of 2022/the start of 2023. I had a pretty bad year (highschool, still undiagnosed depression, etc) and I spent Christmas with tonsillitis.

Then on my feed, I see Underverse 0.7 part 1. I realised this was probably an AU thing and I was not very interested. But the thumbnail looked really cool and I noticed how many views it had. I had nothing else to do so I clicked on the channel and found the playlist of season 1.

Apart from Underfell and Underswap, I did not reconise any of these AUs.

...This turned out to be the best experience I had with anything fandom ever!

I know people say that you can't watch Underverse without knowing the AUs but I strongly disagree. I was in the shoes of Classic Sans as things went crazy. Who was this paint vomiting Sans? Who's this X kid? Why is the animation so good? Why is the music awesome? And why is the story one of the best multiverse stories I have ever seen?!

I watched season 1 of Underverse and I was craving more. So I immediately went onto season 2. And after that I watched XTale (and that actually really helped me understand things and I rewatched the whole series again with that context) before finally reading the XTale and 21 years comic.

And thanks to Underverse I finally tried AUs again and I actually really enjoyed it. Underverse will always be my favourite but still!

I was changed by Jakei's work. I mean in the present day I have written fanfiction for the UTMV and I love the XTale characters (especially Cross lol) so much.

Because of Jakei I overcame my bias and gave the UTMV a fair shot. It's now one of my favourite things ever!

So I only wish good things happen for Jakei and whatever she does with her life. No matter how this ends, I will never regret watching Underverse.

Introducing Lanie - Timeline X

Okay, heres a basic outline.

Cross, our current antagonist for season 1, wants to fix his home au that he destroyed. (on accident, by the way) Xchara’s also there, he’ll be important in a bit.

Cross gets his split soul stolen by error, and is therefore dying. He takes half of classic’s soul to sustain himself.

Episodes in season 1 mostly consist of cross gathering bits and pieces of Aus to remake his own. Cross teams up with nightmare to traverse the Aus.

Xchara tried repeadidly to take control of cross’ body, resulting in the “stab yourself in the eyeball” scene.

Then, after cross gets offed via classic taking his soul half back and a big fight, xchara is attempting to find xgaster, who they have attempted to kill several times for their abusive and violent acts that include but are not limited to

-Child abuse

-forcing Xchara to murder XFrisk

-causing Xfrisk to commit a genocide route

He’s teamed up with nightmare and killer. The funny gang of protagonists we've been following (classic, blue, red, and ink) arrive in outertake where they are confronted by error. After a large fight, ink being emotionless from a lack of vial consumption, and such, ink drops the special vial he’s been carrying, which contains x-gaster’s soul half. Xgaster had been hiding in the doodlesphere, dying perpetually while he waited for the right moment.

In retaliation, error destroys the multiverse. Timelines divergent from the classic undertale timeline will survive, such as killer’s home Au, dusttale, and aftertale.

Xgaster takes the split soul back, revives cross and his au cast, and off he goes to the main timeline to take over.

He tried to coerce classic frisk into working with him, which doesn't work. Meanwhile, xchara, now adult sized btw, is trying to rebel. Xgaster manages to take control of the timeline and is attempting to convert it into his perfect world. Xgaster’s main goal is perfection.

Cross has an independence moment in 0.6, coming to terms with himself while fighting nightmare and killer, who he betrays in the credits of 0.4

Ink gets assblasted with guilt and conscience by fresh, and then he gets picked up by cross.

Xgaster attempts to claim cross and deliver him to where he is, but fatal error intervenes. Some more fighting and then cross is once again revived at xgaster’s side. Ink, now in the universe with xgaster and the others, teams up with classic, and likely does so to stop xgaster.

And that's where we left off.

I recommend watching the Xtale series and reading the comics Jael wrote, namely 21 Years and the Timeline X comic, which takes place from Cross’ point of view instead of Xgaster’s like the Xtale animations are.

TL, DR: cross broke his world. He tried to fix this. This doesn't work. Shenanigans Insue. Xgaster is attempting to create the perfect world, and the protagonists have to rebel against him to keep their universe as theirs.

Okay so does anyone know the plot of Underverse?? I have watched the whole thing and still don't know what's going on. Can someone help me??💀

Xvials is literally SO INTERESTING LIKE MMM.

Tw: Abuse relationship, codependency, suicide, toxic behaviors.

Sooo I don’t really see it as romantic (not in a really helathy way ) but absolutely like more, FAAAR more than only friendship. I don’t really know how to describe it but this bitches had some of the strongest feelings for eachother in the multiverse, let’s start whit what I consider most important of them. They are codependent (kindaaa) .I wont get over alot what makes a relationship codependent in dept but they share some characteristics, not the perfect codependent definition but enough to be considered one in my opinion, a relationship of this type is described by the cleveland clinic as “…relationship there tends to be a severe imbalance of power. Often, one person may be giving much more time, energy and focus to the other person, who consciously or unconsciously takes advantage of the situation in order to maximize their needs and desires.”

This give us a lot of similarities quikcly, to start, we can asume that ink is the one who puts the energy on caring Xgaster’s literal life ( ink stopped Xgasters suicide attemp at the beginning, how is it possible that people dont talk enough about that) also i mean literally because he CARRY in a vial XGASTER’S SOUL, HE’S ESSENCE AS A BEING, THE POWER OF OVERWRITE, THE LAST BIT OF HE’S EXISTENCE, all that weight and responsability in ink’s tiny hands…bro like you can’t be more literal than that.

Also, about the word “energy” get’s represented better in all the shit ink goes true to protect the vial (underverse 0.4 especially but also the fight whit chara in 0.3 part 2). It’s well established in ink’s lore that he absolutely hates being emotionless, he avoid it at all cost, now then image the amount of seriousness that he take the task of protecting the vial to STOP DRINKING THEM ON PORPUSE, I can’t explain enough how big this is, he gave up everything for the Xevent…

But also you know, it’s debated how much he do it for Xgaster/Xevent or for himself (wich is also a big posibility) this implied in Xtale 0 and the Underverse 0.4 speech and the newest chapter of 21 years comic;

That’s also why I debate the amount of similarities whit a codependent relationship, ink, even if he is the one who put’s the energy and care it’s still nothing close to be submissive, something very common in this kind of persons (but not always the case) ,It’s more likely to adapt this behavior because of the dying multiverse and the hope of being useful. My baby.

There’s still a lot to talk about ink’s Underverse version, but let’s jump to the other side of this codependent relationship, Xgaster.

I would like to analize a extremely underrated video first, I think it explains perfectly he’s role in all this and also, it is, in my humble opinion, the mother of Xvials. The video in cuestion? …come back.

The video goes about a profound sens of misery from Xgasters’s part, while he’s smiling in he’s turn apart body, in a black void, only communicating by windings. The most probably explanation of where this take part is between the timeline X (the cross one) and until 0.4 happens, he is in the void that appears in Xtale X at the end, it’s also seem like most people think this is the future, the ending of all Underverse. But this doesn’t matter to much, what’s matter now is that Xgaster is alone, in pain and has lost everything, that’s the context we need.

He is at he’s lowest, even lower than that time he tried to end he’s life (thing that dosen’t seem’s like a possibility there). What would he think there ? What kind of thing goes through some one’s mind in that level of agony?

Even tho the I’m sorry everyone goes more to the persons he failed (Xtale people) it can also applied to ink, for putting so much into him, but I think we all agree that it goes more to he’s people as their creator, it’s not fair. am I right seems like he trying to calm himself, to make it seems that he doesn’t deserve that and see if some one agrees, or, he accepting the horrors he made, saying that is wasn’t fair for them.

Let’s get the tree juicy ones for us. Friend, not dear friend, or old friend or ink my friend or even just ink, Friend, raw and direct as it can get, Help me…BRO WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY LIKE HE, THE MAN WHIT THE MOST AMOUNT OF PRIDE, WHO WOULD PROBABLY NEVER ACCEPT A WEACKNESS, said HELP ME to a little rainbow cute boy. I think the fact that when he was at he’s lowest the only coping mechanism he had was ink, thinking in him, wonder where he was, how he felss right now, how to compare he’s feelings whit he’s. This is shown in Xtale II, III, IV, X etc.

So is no surprise why he think on him at that black void.

This is the one that hit me, again,whit such pride, how vulnerable does he feels, how much does he trust him, but there’s something else that breaks my heart, come back implies that some one it’s not currently there and you want them to be there again, if the context is the end of Underverse then…men this is lost for Xvials.

Sooo after crying a little let’s come back to the codependency thing, it’s clear that in “come back” Xgaster truly relies on ink for he’s own good, winning the position of “the one who takes advantage”, if is it consciously or unconsciously can be debated, I honestly think that it started unconsciously and then grow to consciously ( the soul in the vial thing) but still didn’t came from a harm intention, just desesperation because in that moment (Xtale IX) everything was falling down, so maybe he thought it was the only way, it was still to much for ink of course but I genuinely don’t think it was meant to harm him. Also ink as a chaotic neutral enjoyed the task at first, even get excited.

Soooo yhea, that’s why I think they are one of the most interesting codependent couples out there, one of the only ones that actually exist, usually the multiverse only has romance, enemies or friends, sooo this is fresh in my opinion.

What do you think ?? Do you like to see them as romantic and develop their relationship to a better one ? As toxic friends ? Do you think ink could betray Xgaster ? Vice versa ?

its so bad. i wish there were other people who made fanart or writings of xvials. like. i know there are stuff out there, OBVIOUSLY i know, but... its minuscule.

i want to see how others interpret their buddying relationship, i want to see other people writing xgaster falling in love with ink, ink falling in love right back, i want people to see them and think 'yea, that ship could work' AND THEN MAKE STUFF...

I saw some people saying that the admirer is XRed

For more that most of Xtale fans would think it can be XTale!Red (or any other sans to ship cross- seriously stop think it can be canon) i think it can be just another Jakei Oc that have a very familiar desing to Red, a example of it's Morgan!

In a post on "xtaleunderverse blog" when somone asked about what XMettaton think about every member of the Royal Guard, he talk about her.

Everthing that he says about her is that she was a Witch (Monster wicth i think), was a member of the "Aerial Soldiers" and having a "Sassy" personality. And every time he talks about her he use "past pronouns" What make me think that something happend to her, and now she is not there...

Some possibilities:

1- Get retire from the royal guard.

2- die for something or somone.

3- dissapear without trace, and be considered dead.

What make me think in those possibilities is how Mettaton talk about her, using "past words" and he show/say that he misses her a lot in very respectfully way.

And with that New "Valentine Sneak Peak" we get the knowing that Cross had a secret admirer who share letter's with him, but sunddenly... Cross stop talk about that person and receive they letters.

It make me think that this "Misterious Admirer" could be Morgan, but after i draw and see both desings more carefully... I saw that maybe it can be somone else.

Whatever, we can still have the possibility of Morgan be the Cross Secret admirer... but i guess we will have to wait see the next chapter of "XTale 21 Years" to have the certain who is his real admirer. 💅
