Tori is an odd one. He is often anxious and reclusive, spending hours pouring over old books and scrawling down notes that don’t make much sense. Some say he is overly religious while others think he’s flat-out mad - neither of these claims are true, though. He’s a sensitive young kitsune that is still learning about the ways of human life, studying the cultures and habits of locals. He’s practically nocturnal due to his job (which requires him to patrol the cemetery at night), and because he has albinism, his eyes don’t fare well in daylight anyway. He’s a shy, ghost-like creature, pale and wispy, haunting the graveyard until the watercolour hours of the early morning. If you get him to open up a little, you’ll find that Tori is quite the character, quietly mischievous, kind and caring. He deeply respects both mother nature and the dead, claiming that the spirits that rest in the cemetery need peace, and so he guards them dutifully. While he is a soft-spoken individual, Tori can also be a loyal and protective friend. He hates injustice and believes that all life on earth is precious and must be protected - animals and plants included. You’ll often find him reading somewhere quiet or dozing off under a tree.

Born in the late 1800s, Tori lived the first century of his life in a mountainous region of Japan. He lived alone for most of this time, a gentle forest spirit in the form of an albino fox that watched over the misty woodland he called home. When he was around 102 years old, this little fox had begun to get the hang of his kitsune abilities - creating illusions, though weak and somewhat transparent, and of course, shapeshifting. He had begun to take the form of a young man, graceful and lithe, ghosting about the hazy forest and treading bare-footed on the moss. By the time the early 2000s began to roll around, Tori had heard whispers from local folk that supernatural creatures such as himself were being hunted down. For what, he did not know, but this struck fear in his heart, and he fled. Where to?

Using his practiced skills of illusion, he slipped into human society, casting a spell that made him a mere blur in the memory of anyone that noticed him. In his human form he still stood out, after all - the pale skin, the white lashes. Tori hung around in towns and cities trying to blend in as best as he could, doing research on secret supernatural societies that would be safe for someone of his kind. He remained in Japan for twelve more years (a blink in the long life of a supernatural), gradually becoming less reclusive as he learned the humans’ ways and became more comfortable lingering with them. The threat of hunters was still on the rise, however - and once he felt comfortable enough, Tori snuck his way onto a plane headed for America. 

When flight attendants passed him by, he’d cast an illusion that made him nearly invisible. No one questioned the sly fox as he boarded, departed and landed wordlessly. When the plane arrived in America, a whole new hassle started up: English.

Tori didn’t speak a lick of English, which lead to some clumsy conversations. He began to learn phrases, slowly but surely, as time went on - he’d found himself a small place to stay, a town called Spiritvale. The locals seemed nice enough, and it comforted him that most of them were supernaturals like himself. It was a sort of…sanctuary. Over the two years that he’s lived as the Spiritvale Cemetery’s Groundskeeper, he has learned a considerable amount of English and has begun to come out of his shell as of late.

Personality

Yuno Makato is a pretty chill person but that was before waking up to talking animals, magic, and students that can turn into inky villains. He’s slowly getting used to this sudden change in life but still gets surprised by things.

Their family is from America, with parents and siblings. They usually like going by he/they pronouns and likes being called Yuno or Mak.

Yuno's pretty ordinary student school wise, but is still confused on the whole magic thing. Luckily Ace and Deuce have been helping him w/ the more confusing classes and Grim.... Yuno usually helps with writing things down. Music is the only subject he really gets because he took music in his American school, he's a little shy when it comes to singing but he's doing great.
