It took a while for Thomas to come to. His head was pounding, essentially everything hurt, and at first he didn’t know where he was or what was going on. The floor beneath him was damp and soft, the smell of dirt was in the air, and bit by bit, things came back to him, on step at a time.
Juliet and him teamed up with Five-0 again in a joint mission, but things went wrong. Horribly wrong, actually, and he was reminded of it as he tried to sit up. He hissed as he moved, essentially unable to move his left arm. A glace at it showed his shoulder was dislocated, and that was only mild for what they went through. Juliet, Steve and him got captured, essentially tortured, and judging by the surroundings, were left in the jungle. There was no way he could even remotely tell where they were.
Thomas started to panic then. Not because of being unable to orientate, but because of Juliet and Steve. Shit. Thomas frantically looked around, spotting both still out, and moved first to Steve to the best of his ability, shaking him a bit.
“Steve? Steve!”

When Tani woke up that day, it all seemed to be just as normal. She was up first, Koa soon followed, and their dad usually never slept for too long past that either. Except, that morning he did, so Tani decided to just let him sleep in while she fixed them breakfast.
As she went to wake him up, however, nothing could prepare her for what she and Koa would go through next. She shook their dad once, gently, knowing that he was a light sleeper, but he didn’t wake. She tried again, a bit harder, again without a reaction. By that point nervous, because she knew this wasn’t normal for Kawika, Tani called out to him, again and again, fearing the worst, and the worst happened. She checked his pulse: he had none. In panic, she called for Koa, telling him to call 911 immediately while she started reanimating him, shaking all the time as tears threatened to show. She didn’t stop, didn’t want to all until the ambulance arrived and the paramedics had to pry her away from him to get to him. Tani clung to Koa as the paramedics did everything they could, asking her questions in the process which in the end had them pronounce Kawika dead.
Tani shook against Koa as they proceeded with everything they had to do, who, as Tani wasn’t even able to utter a word, called Steve and asked him to come to their house. Then he tried to get Tani out of the house, to get some air, which she fought against at first, though in the end just slumped down on the stairs on the front lanai and cried.

Bridget was not having a good day.
She had taken a couple of days off work to sort some problems with her new apartment, but it was looking like she would have to ask for a couple of days more, since everything that could have gone wrong, had actually gone wrong.
Worst of all, she hadn’t had the time to actually call Danny. She had managed to text him, to try to check on him, but the few texts saying that he was okay and slowly recovering, didn’t do much to ease her concerns, She had not had the time to call him and check for herself that he was really as okay as he claimed, after being kidnapped and shot, and it made her feel incredibly guilty.
Since she didn’t have anything edible back at her place, she figured she could stop by her parents’ and hopefully grab a bite to eat and catch up with her mom before she went back to her very empty apartment.
She let herself in with her key calling out a greeting, but it looked like her mom wasn’t at home. Instead, she found someone she really wasn’t expecting in the kitchen.
“Steve? What are you doing here?” She asked, sounding a little hostile.

one of the perks of attending ruthger’s university in her home city of newark had to be the closure grace had with her grandparents living in the same place. despite living in the dorm and having a great roommate, cooking her own meals whenever she could or just grabbing something quick to go, there was nothing that could even remotely compare to something that clara made for dinner and she’d call her over. independence truly was great, though a homemade meal made with love was something entirely else, not to mention that it was usually italian which grace simply adored.
so when she was called by clara to join them for dinner, with a surprise that would wait for her there, grace wasn’t one to decline it. the excitement held her throughout her morning and afternoon classes, with her getting to the dorm right on time and with enough time to get ready and grab the bus to her grandparents’ place. the surprise was an added bonus, true, but secondary, and what she was rather looking forward to was spending time with her grandparents that evening, and it was the weekend as well. she could easily stay the night and head back to her dorm later on.
once arriving, clara opened the door for her and promptly let her to the living room, where she saw no other than steve. grace grinned brightly and rushed to him, clashing with him and hugging him tightly. ❝ uncle steve! i missed you so much! ❞ nothing, absolutely nothing would make her pry herself away from him anytime soon. it’s been way too long. ❝ what are you doing here? did you come to visit? ❞

@xmcgarrett / “I’m not coming back.”
it felt like a slap in the face. a confused look on his face, the detective blinking in both surprise and sheer bewilderment. he didn’t understand. he just didn’t understand. a few days ago, when they spoke to each other, everything seemed fine, and it all pointed towards steve being more than ready to come back home. it was the reason why danny had flown over to new jersey, so he could help him ---------- at least that’s was the primary goal, but on a more personal level, danny had simply wanted to see him, hug him, because patience was never his strong suit, and since it all pointed towards steve coming home, he didn’t see a reason why he shouldn’t fly over to just come back with him, keep him company, just spend time again with him. he missed it all. perhaps, however, he should have simply asked if he was coming home instead of jumping to conclusions, and that was purely on him. the small tingle of anger inside him subdued immediately. steve had no fault in it, it was entirely on him. he should have just asked.
❝ o--okay, you’re not coming back. that’s fine. ❞ he said, even if a bit hesitant about it all. ❝ did---- did you have a change of heart or did------ did you not want to come back at all? ❞

The sun was shining high in the blue sky. It was a beautiful day in Hawaii. Sailing around Oahu had been his idea. It was almost therapeutic. Until they got hijacked and forced into a raft. Luckily they had reached land before the raft itself could sink into the water. Tani watched as Steve maneuvered his way around in survival mode. They found a good spot for shelter and set one up as per Steve’s instructions. A good stack of firewood was collected too. She tried to visualize where they were on the map, nothing was coming to her. “Wait, you hear that?” Her eyes opened and she continued walking along the dirt trail. Tani’s face lit up when the path opened up going beside a decent sized pool of water. Feeding into the water was a good sized waterfall. “It’s beautiful.”

Service|| Betty and Steven
@xmcgarrett
Betty was quiet as she looked at Steven, she was quiet as she sighed
“Hey.” She purred, she had heard a great deal about McGarrett, and she was a little bit star struck, but she held herself together, she just had so much respect for him. She looked down at her feet and smiled meekly “Hello, I am.. I’m Betty.” She said softly
“Can I buy you a drink?” She said softly, she knew there was a good chance he knew who she was, her father was a political figure, and her husband was a well known scientist, but she kind of hoped he didn’t. When people learned she was the daughter of Thunderbolt Ross and the wife of Bruce Banner they made assumptions, most of which weren’t true.
“I would love to pick your brain.”

for every 🥝 i get, i’ll recommend a blog i love
a day will not pass that i won’t recommend @xmcgarrett / @jxhiggins / @powerfultales to somebody. ( and yes, i can recommend three because it’s the same mun behind the blogs! i’m bending the rules just a little bit, shhhhhh )
ash has that amazing ability to take some of the most complex characters from various shows and movies, do them justice, embrace them with all their flaws and difficulties and even add to the characterisation while at the same time being able to break down the characters she writes and offer an in-depth analysis of why the character behaves the way they do, or why do things the way they do them, and it all makes perfect sense! ash does an amazing job in researching her characters’ backgrounds, jobs and even goes as far as researching illnesses and their symptoms to make the threads and characters all the more believable and as close to real life as possible, and that in no way is an easy feat!
ash’s steve is beautifully written, incredibly true to the character, but with added little quirks and bits and pieces that make her portrayal stand out from the crowd and be unique and one of a kind. he’s a wonderful mix of his stubborn and determined self, always on the look out, always cautious, and his relaxed self, his vulnerable self, which is incredibly hard to balance ( imo at least! ) and ash does a wonderful job at it!
her juliet is equally as beautifully written, and ash once again shows her ability to balance out two polar opposites residing in a character by staying true to juliet’s usual stubborn and slightly cold self, but also depicting her soft side whenever there are interactions with the one she loves or in any of the happy family with children threads so wonderfully that it always makes my heart swell with joy!
and now ash’s multimuse? have you seen the variety of muses on there? jaskier from witcher, with whom she manages to capture a wonderfully chaotic side of him while also showing off his more romantic and compassionate side? TC from magnum, the big big cuddly care bear that would give his heart and soul for his ohana? noelani from hawaii five-0, the most adorable human being you’ll ever encounter that’s also shy and a bit of a nerd which i love and adore? and that’s just to name a few! absolute chef’s kiss through and through, and i can consider myself very fortunate to be able to write with her on all three of her blogs!

danny hated hospitals. he hated them for several reasons, one of which was that it was never connected to something good, something nice. neither was it connected to something nice when juliet called him and had not so good news about not only his idiot SEAL ( affectionately, of course ), but hers as well. the news was no good, especially taken steve’s medical history in consideration, and the injuries that magnum sustained weren’t exactly child’s play either. both their injuries were life threatening, and all because they wanted to save girls from a trafficking ring, and succeeded in it. the price, however, could have as well been their lives.
holed in the waiting room was danny, alongside juliet, rick and TC, with the detective pacing up and down constantly, refusing anything to eat or drink until steve and magnum were out of surgery, and the surgery lasted and lasted. TC at one point even dared to joke that danny would make a dent in the floor from all the pacing he did, which only earned him a jab in the ribs by rick. as sad as it was, TC wasn’t all that wrong about it. it reflected worry, worry they all had, for steve and magnum, if they’d make it. they had to, they just had to. otherwise he’d personally resurrect them just to be able to kick both their asses for their stupid hero complexes. no matter what way you’d turn it, danny wasn’t a happy camper, neither was any of magnum’s crew. part of him was even afraid to call the team, tell them what happened, unless junior was the one who’d spill the news. at that point in time, danny trusted him to do anything, and to think that he still had to sit down with him and finally open his eyes about all the shit that happened just because he thought he was smarter than anybody else in the room. it was safe to assume that juliet at some point would probably want to do the same, and it probably wasn’t too bad of an idea to brief tani about what junior exactly did, either.
the hours the two SEALs spent in surgery seemed to have stretched into eternity, so when the doctor finally came to the waiting room to inform them that both made it through and were in their rooms, it was no wonder that all of them jumped up, ready to see them, which they were allowed to. they even put them in a room together, which was quite nice. danny moved to steve’s bed and smiled sadly, hand raised and gently running through his hair. ❝ you are a dumbass. ❞ he whispered as he waited for the anesthesia to wear off. ❝ you’re going to get yourself killed. just for once think before you act, you neanderthal. ❞

king's medical couldn't be bussier. three surgeries in a row, with the last one finishing not even a few moments ago ------- all of them successful, which ethan was incredibly glad about. it was never easy being the bringer of bad news to the families, no matter how many times he had to do that throughout his career. some families took the news better than others, usually families who knew their loved ones had slim chances of survival and the surgery being their only hope. even then, ethan had it hard, and perhaps it was something he would never get used to.
and you'd think that the excitement for the day would be over, and that ethan would do his regular checkups on his patients, as he usually did, before calling it a day, though that just wasn't his luck, now, was it. it took him one walk past the reception desk at the surgical ward to freeze in his tracks as the door opened.
❝ doctor shah, it looks like---- ❞
❝ i know, sarah. i know. ❞ he told the receptionist with a soft smile and watched as not only steve and danny walked in, but the whole team. of course, ethan was quick to assume that steve most likely got injured again, and as the, and he'd even dare say that, official doctor of the entire five-0 team, he would also be the one to make sure he would get better, and try and force him to stay in the hospital for as long as possible, for his own good, too. the team steve had was mayhaps also a huge factor that had to do with his fear of being the bringer of bad news. they could get downright scary when scared of any of their injured teammates, not to mention if they were in a critical state and practically demanded that miracles were done.
with a soft sigh, more to himself, ethan walked over to them and offered a warm smile. by now they were friends, since they adopted him into their slightly weird, but very well functioning family. ❝ commander mcgarrett, what did you do this time? ❞ ethan gave him an almost scolding look, like a parent would, but it was all in good jest.

it took weeks to get used to his new job. while not all that different from being a detective in HPD, being a member of five-0 simply added to the adrenaline, to the risks not just gordon, but the rest of the team took on a daily basis to make sure that the people of hawai'i, more specifically honolulu, were safe and could live their lives in peace. still, it wasn't a job where he felt like a new kid on the block --------- he knew danny and lou from back when they were with HPD and SWAT respectively. naturally, they never were close, but the fact that there were familiar faces around helped bunches when gordon accepted the job from commander mcgarrett and joined the task force. adam and quinn were in between being mature and taking things the leaisure way, and the 'kiddos' of the team, as he affectionately called them, tani and junior, were far from being able to being reigned in as steve asked him to. tani was a literal energy bomb while junior wasn't far from it either, even if he striked him as the muscle of the team while tani was more leaning towards the logical thinking before acting, despite having impulse reactions as well.
upon steve's return to hawai'i, it was to be expected that danny would be more so with him than at work, and that was more than fine, especially with lou and gordon having mostly things under control. barbecue's at steve's became once more a regular thing, and while gordon attended them from time to time, it was simply the fact that he didn't want to impose too much. he was still the new guy after all.
the chance presented itself, however, when word came around that steve was opening a gym that would offer self-defense classes, rehabilitation programs, all in all a well rounded schedule with classes for everybody, so gordon found himself at the opening of said gym, trying to see if he could get a word with the man himself, not necessarily in private, but to have a proper conversation with him. after all, he was the guy who hired him and brought him into five-0. ❝ it's good to have you back on the island. ❞ the now second-in-command of the task force told him with a small smile once managing to catch him on his own.
