Hey there! I decided to start writing sometimes cuz it seems fun:3 I hope you all will have fun reading my posts! Sorry for mistakes if i made any!

This is an Xlov reaction kinda post, with the title:

How would they hug you!

Its gender neutral reader x xlov as much as i could make it g/n!

Wumuti!

He was a little shy at the start but if you saw him hugging haru, you’d realise that you’d be in for the same clinginess in no time. He loves holding you close to his chest and putting his chin on the top of your head. If he is a bit moody and sad he would bend down a bit and hide his face in your neck so he can calm down and ease the pain he feels.

You heard the front door slam open, and a pouty Wumuti walked into the living room where you sat watching your favourite show. "Hm? What's wrong Muti? Are you okay?" you asked him while patting the space next to you. "Just tired. I couldn't do an important dance part no matter how hard i tried. I took me out too badly i fear." he said while he sat down to your right. You opened your arms to offer him a warm hug, andhe immediately snuggles into your neck, holding your waist as he did so. "Are you feeling better already?" you asked, patting his head and twirling his slightly longer hair around your fingers. "A lot better." he answered smiling into your neck.

Rui!

He’s the type of person that needs more time to get comfortable with other people, including you. He would be distant with physical touch, but it doesn't mean he doesn't love you. He would yap to you like his life depended on it everyday and smile whenever you talk about things you are interested in. After a while he would collect all the bravery in him and go fo that deserved hug.

Rui waited for you to finish the dishes. Rui sulked as he waited for you to finish the dishes. he wasn’t sat here by choice, you’d told him to sit so he didn’t tire himself out anymore than he already had despite his efforts to help. He waited for you patiently so you can go and talk about your day. He thought you were in the kitchen for too long so he went back. "N/N when will you finish the dishes? You’ve been doing them for so long now!" he whines with the roundest puppy eyes. "A moment Rui, have some patience will you?" You gave him a soft smile as you assured him that you won’t take too much longer. He got a thought, while you didn't look at him he snuck up to you and hugged your waist from behind, making you jump a little because he’d never done this before. you turn quickly to face his direction. "Rui. What are you doing?" you asked while he carefully placed his chin on your shoulder. "Attention." he said and urged you to be fast about the dishes.

Hyun!

Hyun is very shy but very expressive. If he wants hugs, he’ll get them no matter how shy he felt. He loves yapping and cuddling when he gets comfy and and after making sure you were comfortable with it too. You have to remember that he is really loud so feel free to tell him to lower his volume, he will understand it.

"Look what i got from the store today!" He almost jumped at you when he shoved the door open so fast it was like it got broken down. "Woah woah! Okay If you show it this close im not gonna see it too well Hyunnie." you said while pushing the cat keychain he almost showed into your face "Oh! Sorry I didn't mean that" he pulled it away a bit then placed it on your hands. "Do you like it though? It reminded me of you! Its cute like you are" he said "Of course i do! Thank you for thinking about me!" you smiled at him, then he suddenly jumped into your arms and hugged you tightly. "Of course! I will always think about you!"

Haru!

Haru is an adorable soul. He would shower you with hugs because he loves physical touch. He doesn't get shy about it, if he wants to do it he will. Hugs are something he gives for no reason in particular or he’d say "just because i love you!!" with a huge, adorable smile that always lit up whatever room he was in.

"Haruu! Im back!" you said, excited to see your boy. You missed him all day, school/work was awful today. Everybody pissed you off and all you wanted was to just go home and cuddle against Haru. He jumped up from the couch where he played on his phone to greet you. Running towards you and jumping into your arms. "N/N! I missed you soo much! Guess what! Today me and Wumuti went to the plushie store and i saw an adorable fox plushie! I noticed that your writing style is very dry so i assumed you were having a bad day. I bought the plushie for you! So when im not here you can still think aboutbme! he said while patting your back. "Haru.. you didn't have to, but thank you so much! I love you. Anyway that plushie will make me cry when you won’t be here. Nothing can replace the real Haru you know." you said looking at him."Noo you cant cry it doesn't suit you! I like your smile better!."

Currently going insane over ‘I’mma be’ by XLOV, a group with a ‘genderless’ concept, and MY GOD, never has a debut song grabbed me like this.

Not only are the visuals, talent and concept in the music video just impeccable, but I now feel the inescapable need to write an essay about the english lyrics:

They start off singing the titular line: ‘imma be your, imma be your’. I kept expecting more, for them to make it sound like lines we’ve heard before. ‘I’mma be your boy’, ‘I’mma be yours’. But they never finish it. The whole point is that they don’t need to tell you, or put a name to it. It’s about just existing, whether or not you fit a certain definition. I’m frankly ashamed it took me this long to figure out.

‘You know it’s not a game / It’s reality, you can’t wake up’ - It might be a plea to be taken seriously i.e. this form of self-expression is not just play, or it could be seen as a challenge to any denials the listener might have.

‘I’m riding on the wall of prejudice’ - To my mind this is the most straightforward line of all, but it’s still a great image. Forgoing either side to tap dance on the wall between them.

I really liked the point about the performance of gender that The Ampliverse brought up in their reaction video. A lot of the lyrics ‘See my body moving like this’, ‘It’s just a preview / So, just sit down and watch it’, as well as the MV staging (a small 4-walled box, sets that look purposefully fake or theatrical, a chess board), actively confront the fact that this is a performance. Gender is a performance, they perform to people in the video, but we are reminded that they are also performing to us.

‘Four, five, six and seven / Ate the town and burned it’ - I have nothing else to say this line just goes crazy

‘Pick one, free the beauty that will unfold on the stage / Yeah, paint the color you need’ - I especially love that last bit. You don’t need to pick from a pre-determined selection of options, identity is as varied as the spectrum of colour.

Now for my favourite bit: The bridge

Most of the verses and choruses are sung softly, but suddenly the tempo and aggression in their voices pick up.

‘I know, I know, baby, what you need, yeah / Tell me again, raise your head and make eye contact with me’ - It bold, boastful, and its confidence is almost a little patronising. ‘Baby… raise your head’, the listener is helpless, their agency taken away. In a video, the group described the theme of the song as ‘sick love’. I think this line epitomises that.

‘Say love me ‘cause you know that I’m the real, yeah’ - Real is the best way to be, and the best people will love you for it.

These last two parts almost feel like a challenge to the listener: are you afraid to look at me? are you afraid of how much you might like it? are you afraid of what it might say about you?

They repeat, in each chorus, ‘I’m your wish’ - perhaps, one you don’t want to admit. The whole song feels like a guilty pleasure.

In conclusion, did I probably just horribly overanalyse a kpop song? Yes. Have I internalised all this and accepted it as the canon message of the song? Also yes.

I adore it. Please forgive my ramblings.

(Bonus) I wasn’t going to talk about the visuals as well but oh well:

My favourite concept from the video is the one reminiscent of a school hall. Schools are one of the most obvious symbols of conformity. The extras are dressed in very typical male and female school uniforms, while the group’s clothes are similar in fabric and colour but are in striking, exaggerated silhouettes with a clear play on gender. The background is drab and feels confining, contrasting incredibly with the double-meaning gendered ‘performance’ the group are putting on. The extras look unimpressed and even have their faces blurred at times, suggesting that while people are allowed to watch, the audience is ultimately inconsequential. The truest ‘performance’ can only be for yourself. The fact that the group have their backs to the camera also reinforces this in a really cool way. Even we don’t matter, lest we forget that this performance is for us as well. Also the black and white imagery representing the binary is a cool touch (credit to the Ampliverse again, I found a lot of their comments surprisingly insightful and I’d really recommend watching the video). Also, at one point hyun stands in between two red paths to exit doors, not entering either of them, and then the video ends with them finding a secret third door and leaving through it (not super subtle i know but it’s cool what can i say!!!).
