🌲 How deeply does your OC feel? Are they typically empathetic or do they have a hard time connecting with others in this way? What are they like when offering support and comfort to someone they care for?

(A sneaky lil answer to something you sent me ages ago, because I went to reset my housing timer, and realized how much I miss Jak...) Jak is... not an empathetic person - which has been difficult to approach, as someone who is OOCly! She just doesn't really resonate with what others are feeling - and in a couple of instances, it's made things awkward! She tried to sympathize with a friend and comfort them some when they thought their partner died, but she just felt like she was getting it wrong the whole time. It's the effort that counts, right? (Showing any sort of care usually involves 'actions' of some kind. Like a cat leaving you a dead bird... she shows she cares by doing something. Not necessarily something entirely logical.) Jak does feel things deeply - and these days, she just doesn't really know what to do with the way she is made to feel, for the most part (mostly she channels it into anger). It's a bit daunting not to understand what feelings are... 'appropriate' or 'normal? How do others feel about this thing/situation? What does she call this emotion, or that one? If you've ever watched Lucifer, then Maze is a great example! She's effectively emotionally on the same level as a child, initially, being a demon who has never really had cause to have many emotions not associated with torture or sex - and has to learn how to interact with others in ways that are socially acceptable - and the people around her have to adapt to her oddities and realize that she won't ever be just like them, even after learning how to process and express her emotions in more constructive ways. Jak... is a lot like that. She rolled her eyes at simple niceties like 'thank you' and 'please', back in 2019. These days she can hold a polite conversation all the way through, if she truly wants to... she understands how to navigate them better, now... mostly. She can camouflage herself well enough, but rarely cares for truly polite conversation. Hard truths will always be what she prefers - she, a lot like Maze, likes to make people squirm.

Fuck it, let's try again.

Some time ago I created a forum that didn't stay lively for very long, unfortunately, but I don't want to give up on it as I think forums offer something that no other tool for online community can offer: an actual community that doesn't rely on everyone acting like their own PR/marketing team.

So here it is, in case anyone's interested:

What does it have to offer?

A place to meet artists and roleplayers from the FFXIV fandom, where you won't be assailed by notifications like a Discord server, that's LGBTQ-friendly and won't ask you to post all the time to remain visible (contrary to social media).

What you'll find:

RP sections for your RP threads, easier to manage than on Tumblr, and without the pressure of being seen online on Discord because you wanted to talk to your friends but aren't in the mood for RP

A place to get help to create your character or write an NPC, if you're feeling insecure and want to try your hand at writing/roleplaying

Galleries for your writing, fanarts, screenshots, irl craft, etc. where you don't have to worry about peak hours to be seen

Forums where you can gush about your own characters and get asked questions: no need to have a big following anymore!

A place where you can discuss the lore and share your meta analysis to your heart content

A place to organize your own in-game event and promote it, once again without needing to build a big enough following for it to be noticed!

Yes, there's a NSFW section (that you have to ask to get access to). Forumactif—the host—is not in favor of this, however, so if Etheirys has enough success I might consider hosting it myself (but I'm not rich so we'll start with the free alternative for now and just keep it on the low XD)

I am taking suggestions to improve it and I'll gladly help you and answer your questions if you're not familiar with forums (or this sort of forums, anyways).

For those who don't know me or find me intimidating to talk to (I know it has happened) I've been leading communities big and small for about 18 years now, and I've always put a big emphasis on fairness, communication and patience.

DecembHyur 2023 Day III: Home

On a windswept isle in the southwestern corner of the realm, amidst the roiling waves of the Rhotano Sea, lies the maritime city-state of Limsa Lominsa. To this haven for bandits and brigands, cutthroats and curs, seekers of both freedom and fortune, comes a lone adventurer.

A tudor house for Eikko.

I was asked to make a tudor home for Eikko, who is an amazing designer and really funny and wholesome person, so I was more than happy to try! She was so patient with me, this one took over 6 months to make due to life things.

I'm actually a bit jealous of the final design because I was able to make so much space in a large, compared to my own personal house, and even got to make a stairwell AND hallway! It was really nice to build with slanted walls and try and make the traditional tudor structure we're familiar with when it comes to the beams and ceilings.

Eikko specifically wanted a dining nook and I think it's one of my favorite spots in the build. The last thing I built was the hallway bench so it might look a little clunky, but I wanted to see what I could make with limited slots left lol

💐 How does your OC handle being unwell or forced to rest in bed? Who cares for them and in what ways? Does your OC enjoy being doted on or are they a terrible patient? Reversed: is your OC good at taking care of others who are ill or in need?

(I rise from the grave - and miss Jak too much! Here's an answer to your old ask that I'm dusting off!)

She's only been confined in such a way once, really, and it was moreso due to a severe injury in her back... and it drove her nuts. She is not an indoor cat. She needs to go run around outside, burn off energy in any way possible, run the gang, run her restaurant... she doesn't have time to convalesce! Plus you know... having been a prisoner of war for a while, she does not like being confined to one room/one space for long periods of time. Makes her antsy, and more claustrophobic as time goes on.

And you know, I don't know if her current lover is much of one for 'doting'... that's more Jak's love language (shhh, tell no one)? He'd absolutely help her out if she needed it, but she'd have to ask nicely, first... and she hates asking (but has asked him for help before... it's possible). Especially nicely.

When the shoe is on the other foot? She's much more in her element - it's mostly that she grew up tribal, and there was always an element of taking care of one another instilled in her. Her parents were doting with one another, as well, which helps set a good example, but it's really about tending to the other people in your tribe. You're a pack. You're family. Everyone is important, everyone has a role, and you tend to others as you would want them to tend to you... and even moreso, if they're special to you. It's lead to a few 'housewife' jokes, despite her being anything but in nature - save for those behind-the-scenes moments in which she chooses to cook dinner for him, or even bathe him... and that's a 'normal' thing for her in regards to him.

One of the first real displays of trust between them, however? Was just that - her tending to him when he showed up at her doorstep all weary and bedraggled after a fight... when he could have gone to anyone else. He came to her. And that told her things that he took many more months to actually say out loud with words; it proved that he trusted her... and she hauled his ass up the stairs in what was then just her tiny little apartment, she put him in her bed, pulled his armor and shoes off (complaining the whole while, naturally), and was headed right back down the stairs to sleep on her couch... when he invited her to stay in bed with him. I'm also pretty sure that's the first time they shared a bed for something more intimate than just sex, at that, and she was shook. Actually sleeping in the same bed as someone else is really taking a risk - for people like them, anyways. It meant a lot to her! (And still does every time it happens, really.)

That said, Jak doesn't dote on anyone else in this manner, and would need to make some friends for me to really say otherwise, but... if a friend got close enough to really mean something to her, and fell ill, she'd no doubt tuck them away and tend to them in the only way she can, without healing magic: cooking. That and... spend a bunch of her money on a healer, because... throwing money at problems makes them go away, right?

We have a massive one today! Huge thanks to a close friend of mine who sent me every single bookmark of xiv resources she had. 💖

Sweets and Puddings OC Questions.

A little list of OC questions based on the symbolism of sweets and puddings in dreams and the imagination. Please note that the information in this list is for entertainment purposes only!

Chocolate: Comfort, Warmth, and Love.

How good is your OC at comforting others? Do they feel comfortable around someone who is crying? Does it depend on the age or gender of the person in question?

Do other people experience your OC as being particularly warm and approachable on first meeting them? Or do they initially (or even permanently) come across as cold or stand-offish?

What does your OC find comforting when they are distressed or anxious? Are they able to ask for this comfort from others? Or do they need to be alone?

Does your OC have someone in their life who makes them feel safe and comforted during difficult times? Is this person aware that your OC feels this way about them? Would your OC ever admit to doing so?

Does your OC ever comfort eat when they are unhappy? If so then what food do they find most comforting and why? If not, then what might they do instead?

Candy: Indulgence and Excess.

Does your OC have any "guilty pleasures"? Are they at all secretive or embarassed about these?

Is your OC ever prone to excessive indulgence in food, alcohol or other vices? Do they personally consider it excessive? Or is this purely the view of those observing their behaviour?

Does your OC find it easy to resist temptation? Are they always strong-willed and abstinent? Or does it depend upon the nature of the temptation in question?

For what (if anything) is your OC most greedy? Perhaps fame? Sexual satisfaction? Knowledge? Power? Or something else entirely?

Does your OC believe that it is possible to have too much of a good thing? Or is there no limit to their appetite for certain pleasures or luxuries?

Ice Cream: Playfulness and Childhood.

How accurately does your OC remember their own childhood? Was it a generally happy time? Or are there aspects which are painful or even traumatic to recall?

Does your OC take themselves particularly seriously? Are there times when they can take themselves lightly, but others when they demand respect? Do those around them ever view them as excessively dour and serious? Or even inordinately flippant and frivolous?

Does your OC have a good sense of humour? What kind of jokes do they find funny? Do they have a favourite joke themselves?

Is your OC inclined to play games of an evening? Or do they consider themselves rather above such diversions? Do they enjoy gambling? Or do they prefer games that allow them to perform?

At what point did your OC consider their childhood to be over? Was it a milestone in terms of age? Or did it follow a particular event? Did they feel ready for adulthood at that point?

Lollipops: Shortcuts and Risk of Failure.

Does your OC tend to plan things in meticulous detail? Or do they prefer to jump straight in and work things out as they go?

To what degree does your OC fear failure? Are they something of a perfectionist in all things? Or can they accept a chance of failure in some situations?

Does your OC place a lot of importance on doing things "properly"? Or are they more than willing to take shortcuts to achieve their goals?

What does your OC see as being their greatest failure? Does the memory of this still fill them with feelings of guilt or shame? Are their feelings of failure justified?

How willing is your OC to gamble? Are they more than happy to rely upon luck? Or will they only take a chance once they have stacked the odds in their favour as far as possible?

Cheesecake: Inner Healing and Realisation of Potential.

Has your OC fully realised their own potential? If not in their own view, then perhaps in the opinions of others?

Does your OC believe that people are marked for greatness from birth - perhaps by destiny, noble birth or cultural origin? Or do they believe that anyone can rise to renown through the quality of their character or the value of their efforts?

Has your OC fully healed from any historical experiences of loss or trauma? If not then do they believe it will ever be possible for them to do so? Conversely are they in denial regarding their own trauma and need for healing?

Is your OC someone who counsels or helps others heal themselves from abuse or trauma? Is this something they do consciously? Or is there something about their personality or presence that others experience as comforting or nurturing?

To what extent does your OC recognise the significance of emotional or spiritual harm? Are they able to recognise when another person is in distress? Or do they discount emotional suffering as being something that the strong should simply manage in silence and overcome alone?

Doughnuts: Recuperation and Reward.

Is your OC someone who finds it easy to relax? Or do they tend to always be busy and in need of external stimulation?

How would your OC reward someone who did a good deed for them? Do they feel comfortable being helped? Or do they hate feeling indebted to others?

Does your OC take the time necessary to recover fully from exertions or strain? Or do they sometimes push themselves to get back out out into the fray (literally or figuratively) before they are truly ready?

What has been the most emotionally rewarding experience for your OC so far? Have they admitted this to others (or to themselves)?

Does your OC believe that good deeds should be their own reward? Or do they prefer that appreciation be shown through generous material compensation?

Cupcakes: Joy, Celebration and Success.

How does your OC respond when they are feeling joyful or celebratory? Are they inclined to whoop and cheer? Or are they more understated and subdued?

Does your OC enjoy parties and festivals? Or do they find them somewhat overwhelming? Or even pointless or frivolous?

Is your OC able to acknowledge or celebrate the achievements of others? Or do they sometimes begrudge not being the centre of attention?

How would your OC choose to celebrate a major event or milestone (if they would celebrate it at all)? Would they prefer a quiet occasion with a friend or partner? Or would they enjoy as big an occasion as possible? Perhaps with many guests and much revelry?

Long before Ahlis existed in XIV and WoW (and even before her progenitor, Fern, came about), there was a duo of OCs that were, and still are, dear to my heart. That's what happens when you create and share stories with your best friend many years into the future; that love for them never really dies.

Una and Mandy came from pure teenage escapism and fantasy, indulging the best in what it means to be young, unafraid and hilarious in a way only young girls can appreciate. It also helped that a wonderful 90's anime, The Slayers, facilitated it lol.
