The phoenix led tens of thousands of birds as they flew over from the end of the horizon. Behind them, clouds akin to a sea of fire billowed as they swept by Chang’an. A golden winged roc perched on top of Xingqing Palace, its pupils reflecting the common people of the bustling Divine Land. Within the silence, dynasties rise and fall, while tides ebb and flow. Li Jinglong slowly dragged his body riddled with wounds, releasing a resplendent light from his hand as he kept approaching Hong Jun. “The living… are passing travelers…” His low voice resounded through the world, and within an instant, the black fog that enveloped the earth receded before the light. “The dead… return home without turning back.” That light is the blazing sun that illuminates the world, stars that twinkle in the night sky, an eternal heart lamp that pierces through the darkness. “The world…is a temporary inn. Since time immemorial, countless people have bewailed their short, bitter lives…” Li Jinglong closed his eyes and pressed one hand against Hong Jun’s forehead. A white light diffused with a whoosh, covering the battlefield littered with mountains of corpses and seas of blood. Within the shadow of that lamp, the debauchery in Pingkang, the parasol trees of the Exorcism Department bathing in the midsummer sun, the sand and swirling snow in the vast expanse beyond the Great Wall, Ah Tai’s clear singing voice, Mo Rigen and Lu Xu picking leaves in the early morning, Qiu Yongsi’s flying brush strokes that transforms into immortal poems in Li Bai’s cup– A young nobleman of Chang’an strolled through its eastern downtown, Riding a white horse with a silver saddle as he beamed. While traversing through Chang’an, flowers kept falling, where on earth is he going? Smiling, he enters a tavern where a foreign entertainer performs. (Last four lines are from a poem written by Li Bai used to ridicule hedonistic sons from rich families for their extravagant lifestyles.) A gong who has bad luck wherever he goes x a shou that can suck away the luck of the people around him

When Jiang Xing returned to Xingqing Palace, Lin Qingyu asked him, "What did the Empress Dowager say to you?"
Jiang Xing told him the truth. "She is upset that I deboned the fish for you. She implied that I should maintain my dignity as the emperor in front of you."
Lin Qingyu said, "Then what does the emperor think? Does this mean you won't be deboning my fish for me anymore?"
"How is that possible?" Jiang Xing said seriously, "You and I are both men. It could be said that you are my wife but then it could also be said that I am your wife. Since this is the case, of course, I will give you equal and respectful love."'

Tianbao Fuyao Lu by Feitian Yexiang
Translator: moon Editors: juurensha, namio Original: 天宝伏妖录 by 非天夜翔 (221 chs + various extras) Posted at Chicken Gege, updates Sundays at 9 AM GMT+7
Synopsis: From the end of the horizon, a phoenix led millions of birds in flight. Behind it, a sky filled with billowing clouds that looked like a sea of flames skimmed over Chang’an. A golden-winged peng perched loftily atop the roof of the Xingqing Palace. In its eyes was reflected the splendor of the common people who lived in this Divine Land. In silence, dynasties rose and fell, and the tides ebbed and flowed.
Li Jinglong dragged along his wound-riddled body. From the palm of his hand, a brilliant light shone as he relentlessly drew closer to Hongjun.
“The living… are merely passing travelers…”
His deep voice resounded through the depths of the world, as the black fog that covered the sky and blanketed the earth receded before that light.
“The dead… return to their eternal homes.”
That light was the blazing sun that illuminated the heavens and the earth. It was the light of the stars that twinkled in the night sky. It was an everlasting Heart Lamp that pierced through the darkness.
“The heavens and the earth are… an inn; for all our grief we inevitably return… to dust.”
Li Jinglong closed his eyes, placing one hand on Hongjun’s forehead. The white light dispersed, illuminating the mountains of corpses and rivers of blood that filled the battlefield. In the shadows cast by the light of that lamp, the memories came: the flamboyant debauchery in Pingkang Li, the parasol tree in the Exorcism Department bathing in the light of the summer sun, the swirling sand and fluttering snow of Saiwai, the clear, spring-like sound of A-Tai’s song, the new green leaves that Mo Rigen and Lu Xu picked, the flying brushstrokes of Qiu Yongsi’s pen, which evolved into immortal verses that graced Li Bai’s cup —
A young nobleman strolled through the Eastern Market of Chang’an,
Enjoying the breeze as he rode his white horse on a silver saddle.
After admiring the falling flowers, where does he like to go?
He smiles as he enters a Hu-run wine shop.

favorite passages: Placid Chang'an 太平长安 Ch 237 (Extra I)
Just as he thinks he might die here underneath Li Shi, that person takes his sweat-soaked hand to lace their fingers together, and quietly calls him, "My consort." Su Cen suddenly bursts into tears. Be it the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review, or Prime Minister, all those glamours titles put together can't move him as much as this declaration of "consort." "What?" Su Cen may not have heard it properly, or maybe he is greedy and just wants to heart it again, so insistently he asks again, "What did you call me?" "My consort, " Li Shi leans down to kiss him, "Will you marry me, properly in a bridal chair with eight bearers, and become a master of Xingqing Palace?"

Chongyun's Dreams
Chongyun has been having strange dreams about his friends. He recalled the dreams were about him taking care of them who were half humans, half animals?
Content warnings: none
Tags: modern au, crack, fluff
Characters: Chongyun, Xingqiu, Aether, Lumine
Part: 1
—
Seven. Seven days in a row. Chongyun has been dreaming the same dream for over seven days. A week with Xingmiau. Feels like he's living a double life right now. He doesn't know what to do other than accept the fact that it's his second life. Is he going to live with the image of Xingmiau forever?
How many more times am I gonna have this dream? It's a nightmare... Dreads Chongyun while he watches Xingmiau laying down on his stomach while being on a pillow.
Xingmiau stops as his ears twitches from side to side. He sits up and focuses on the weird incoherent noises in his head. Even Chongyun is even bamboozle by the mere sight of it. But soon, the cat boy scurries away back to him with cries. "What's wrong?" Chongyun asks.
When the blue haired boy tries to look for himself—while cuddling the cat version of his best friend—something peeks behind the wall.
It is another cat like Xingmiau but rather blond, has a long braid, amber eyes, cute features overall..."NYANTHER!" The name pops into his head immediately. And the image of his dear senior friend is enough to wake him up just in time for school. He could definitively say, he's going crazy.
With that knowledge in mind, he sets out his mission to end it all. Before it gets even worse. But with a stumbling footwork, hunched posture, and definitely mentally ill face. He has a lot of work to be done.
"Then Amber said—oh, is that the exorcist kid?" Lumine stops in her tracks and points to the trembling younger boy.
Aether, meanwhile, is quite concerned for him. He looks like he hasn't touch anything but grass. He even saw him rolling around on the grassy hill during his class' gym class. It was a weird thing to witness.
Why another cat? It's just gonna cost more... Complains Chongyun. His footing starts to become wobbly. Ah, but it's just a dream.
Yep. Just a dream, Chongyun.
"...umm, Chongyun..." Calls Aether as he tries to help the poor, tortured boy. "...are you okay? You're looking kinda wobbly."
Chongyun turns around with a tired smile on his face, his baby blue eyes wobbles at the sight of the blond fellow. He just turns away and giggles to himself. "Ohh...hey, Aether." He greets the blond. "You're usually so obedient..."
That word. That word sends shivers down Aether's spine. What does he mean by 'obedient'?
"I'll treat you to some nice new cat food, okay?" Chongyun says with a reassuring tone before walking away from the twins. Leaving Lumine to suspiciously stare at her twin brother for the suspicious behavior. "It's not what you think!! I don't know what it is, but it's not what you think!!" Yells Aether, still being stare at by his twin sister.
"Lumine's looking at me funny!!" Screams the blond as he frantically tries to get his sister back. "Do something!!"
"Ah..." Chongyun walks away blissfully with his tired eyes staring off to the distance. "I have to make sure to train you, too..."
"GET BACK HERE, CHONGYUN!!!"
With nibbles of the soft and supple bread, Nyanther passes it to Xingmiau who looks at him weirdly. Chongyun just crouches down to their level and watches it goes down. And here we go...the tenth day in a row. Well let's just get over with. He wipes the dream sweat from his forehead.
The cat version of his best friend looks down at the bread, hums to himself, looks back at the cat version of the travelling student before biting onto the soft pastry. It's filled with tuna. It's delicious. Nyanther immediately cheers away at the sight of Xingmiau enjoying the bread.
"It's nice of you to share..." He starts subconsciously rubs both heads of the males in his dreams. Even though, Aether just offers Xingqiu a pencil.
"What's been going on with Chongyun lately?" Asks Aether.
"No clue." Answers Xingqiu.
Chongyun has begun to accept the nightmare.

They get to see behind the silk flower curtain, the backstage of the show he puts on for Guild affairs and at important city events. That he is an extrovert, a free spirit, tempered with anxiety and responsibilities. He is a young man of great duality. LIKES: shrimp dumplings, martial arts novels, wuxia, justice, chivalry, studying the blade, poetry, writing, pranks, his friends, spicy food, buying more books than he has the time to read, stargazing DISLIKES: carrots, injustice, economics textbooks, being expected to do something just because you’re good at it, being too busy to see friends, black coffee, making people genuinely upset with him on accident, people not liking him SKILLS: Guhua clan martial arts, speedy and acrobatic bladework, writing, reading quickly and with intense focus, deductive reasoning, diplomatic, political, economic, and financial negotiation on behalf of the Guild OCCUPATION/AFFILIATION: Feiyun Commerce Guild, Guhua Clan BACKGROUND: Xingqiu is the second son of Liyue’s notorious Feiyun Commerce Guild. He was raised knowing he would not inherit the majority of the responsibility, but that he still had a duty to the Guild and a reputation to maintain. He knows his role and he plays it well—everyone who knows him through his family and their position in Liyue knows him to be a respectful, and respectable, young man. Reserved, polite, intelligent. Those who know him well enough that he has opened up to them more fully, however, are aware that beneath the composed appearance he upkeeps for the sake of his family is a more boisterous and romantic soul. Xingqiu completed his studies of trade and finance and the intricacies of the Feiyun Guild in particular at a speed much faster than a child of his age could ever have been expected to achieve. Leaving him with a need to fill his schooling time and stimulate his restless mind in other ways. Which caused him to hollow out his textbooks and hide martial arts novels inside. Reading about sons of powerful families and kings walking among common folk as honorable “people’s heroes”, saving princesses and vanquishing inequity, changed something in him. It consumed whatever free time he could manage to steal each day. Sowing the seeds for his enduring love for fictional literature. While it’s true to some extent that Xingqiu’s taste in fiction led him to his ideological outlook and non-familial affiliations, it’s truer still to say that the love he
has for his favorite stories is what brought him to his greatest passion. His commitment to carrying out chivalric justice. He cares about the notion that for someone to /be/ good they must /do/ good, more than almost anything else in the world. The Guhua Clan is where he found his skill in and dedication to martial arts as the means to that end. His heart proved to be the very thing the clan needed to pump blood back into a dying practice. Xingqiu advanced rapidly toward mastery. He found a sense of enlightenment about the relationship between a weapon and the one who wields it that served to revitalize the spirit of Guhua. Which he shared using a talent some might have previously seen as irrelevant in such a field—his knack with words. It helped, too, that his financial status and social standing served as a practical benefit. He became a premier member, as the clan found new life, in no small part thanks to his joining. But his allegiance to his family has not changed. He knows he can’t run amok and do completely as he pleases, lest business be affected by rumors of the prodigal second son carrying out vigilante justice. He has to remain poised, in the public’s view. So he’s careful, he picks his fights, and he does things his own way, oft behind the scenes. He walks the line between obligation and passion, and he walks it with his head held high and wry smile on his otherwise demure face. MISC. HEADCANONS: •Xingqiu’s parents don’t know about how he received his vision. Whether it’s fully on them for never asking or at least partially his own fault for not offering that information is up in the air, but either way, they’re in the dark. •Xingqiu helps to edit Chongyun’s entries into his family’s Field Guide to Demons and Beasts. •Xingqiu befriended Bennett on a business trip to Mondstat once by literally running into him (or rather, being run into by him) in front of the Adventurer’s Guild booth, leading to a conversation about a shared love of adventure (after Benny got done apologizing profusely for getting Xingqiu’s silk clothes all dusty). They’re long-distance friends/pen pals now! Xingqiu admires his intensity with the sword. •Xingqiu has an interest in astronomy—his passion for it is of course completely eclipsed by that for Guhua, chivalry, and justice, but still. It’s an interesting, non-stressful hobby. •Xingqiu is the second son, but he is not the youngest child. He has a younger sister with whom he’s closer than he is with his elder brother. [need not apply in the server if I was accepted, just a headcanon I have/enjoy!] Writing Sample(s): Xingqiu had his luggage in hand before they even dropped anchor. Which he threw on Chongyun pretty quickly after their feet hit the dock in Ritou, as he nearly sprinted with their paperwork up to the initial customs booth, to begin processing their entry into the country. The first several steps went fine, until the Outlander Affairs Agency inspector attempted to demand a bribe in order to complete their visa approval. In response to which Xingqiu pointed out his name and business affiliations on their documents and ended the trouble with a quick— “I would hate to have to file a complaint with the Kanjou Comission, mentioning that the rules of visitor applications, read by not only myself and my father but also the Qixing as well, were unexpectedly violated upon my arrival and jeopardized relations between us and the Tri-Commission, and threatened to bring about another nationwide silk shortage, here.” Needless to say, they did not pay one mora, and their papers were stamped and returned, along with a freshly signed travel permit, and they were directed on the best way to get over to Narukami island, to Inazuma City, and to the Kamisato clan’s estate. /// •Xingqiu enjoyed being able to find a relaxing moment in the midst of a business trip. After hours of travel and meetings with trade partners and far too much talk about silk prices for his liking, digging into a new book in a quiet setting made the whole affair much more tolerable. Which
was precisely what he had done, the night prior. He had borrowed an older edition he’d never seen of a novel he hadn’t read in quite some time from Verr Goldet and sat reading it under the palms of one of the potted plants on the terrace overlooking Dihua Marsh. With a pillow and a small lantern borrowed from his room at the in, of course, so as not to strain his back or his eyes. And he remained there in roughly the same position until he was nearing the end of the story. He didn’t realize, however, that it was nearly dawn, until he heard the nearby sound of Smiley prepping to open the kitchen again for the day and was brought back to the present moment. He looked up at his surroundings for the first time in hours, only to see that there was someone else out on the balcony this early as well. Standing up and straightening his attire, he cleared his throat and donned a polite smile. “Good morning~” He greeted, softly. /// •When he caught the eye of a yawning Smiley, who seemed to be in the middle of preparing the kitchen for the day, he gestured with a tilt of his head to the table and received a shrug and a nod in return, which came across like a nonverbal why not? So, he motioned for his hungry new acquaintance to follow him, and went to grab a seat at one of the stools. Where they could wait for the chef to come greet them. “Well, I suppose it’s about time I introduce myself, since we’re going to share a meal and all. My name is Xingqiu—of the Feiyun commerce guild. What’s yours?” He asked, folding his hands on top of the table, and sitting up straight. Open and inviting, with a respectable posture and appropriate degree of formality. The expected behavior of a representative of his family, especially on a business trip. Unlike thoughtlessly staying up all night reading on the public terrace, but, oh well. He was sure if his lack of sleep had hit him already he likely would not have still been able to manage it. Luckily, he was still in the limbo before actually feeling tired occurred to his unrested mind and body. /// NOTE: Hi, I’m also interested in applying for Bennett, but I wanted to start with one application in hopes of checking out the server, if I were accepted, before applying for another! But if you’d like to see an application for him (in the event you don’t think I’m right for Xingqiu, or the masterlist changed since I saw it/isn’t up to date) I’d be happy to put one together. If you want to reach me, other than via email, you can dm me on my tumblr, reallyamerica , as well! Thanks for your time!
