I have a vague desire to write a short fic in which Xinema Talis becomes so desperate for a grandchild that she ends up becoming her son's wingman.
She insists on Viktor attending their mother-son family dinner, then repeatedly claims that she is "on the market for a son-in-law" and that Jayce is still single, which is unfortunate. (Jayce saying, "Oh Janna, what are you up to now?" in the background)
She personally delivers thermoses filled with sweet milk and various desserts to Viktor's apartment, along with handwritten notes containing random Jayce facts. (Viktor wonders if Jayce can still do penny disappearance tricks like a party magician. Jayce wonders how he came to know that.)
She walks into their lab, corners Viktor and says, "I heard you don't have a last name. How does Talis sound?" ("Mom!")
When they finally got together, Xinema handed them a letter that simply said, "Adoption, when?"

“Mom! Mom! Please wake up!” A young Jayce yelled through the humming of strong winds. His pregnant mother had collapsed before him. Shaking her unresponsive body, he looked all around him. Concealing any efforts of looking past it, the snow continued to rush around them. “Help!” He yelled, holding onto his mothers cold hands, two of her fingers had turned black. “Please, someone, help us!”
In the distance, a hooded man watched as the young boy hovered over an older woman.
Jayce held his mother closer. This was possibly his last moments and all he could think about was the life he could have had with a sister. He squeezed her body tighter. As he knelt down in the snow, his limbs became heavy. The boy realized how tired he became. Letting out one last plea, his voice croaked in the process. There was nothing for miles.
When his head hung low, ready to give up, the hooded man lit his way to approach the boy. He had yet to notice him draw near. With every step he took, the wind scattered around him. The boys chin rose, examining the environment around him.
He took in a sharp breath of cold air when a cloaked figure appeared to make their way closer, a blue crystal lighting its way. Jayce jerked away from his mothers cold body as the crystal igniting brighter, blinding him for a moment before they stood before him. The hood on their head tilted, cranking its neck to the side, examining the boy before taking a step back, “Wait!” Young Jayce yelled, lunging over his mothers body to hold onto the cloaked figure. It continued to pull in the opposite direction. “Please!” Ready to chace after the hooded figure, a gust of wind knocks him back. The stranger had flung its staff over its head, tracing a circle. Another breeze blows as blue orb expands around them, glowing runes begging to appear from thin air.
The atmosphere around him became warm. He felt as light as a feather.
Jayce looked down to his mother, her body surrounded by a blue glow. Bringing his hands up to his face, he had been glowing too. He continued to look at his surroundings, no longer was he sitting in the thick snow, but floating up into a ray filled with galaxies.
With a blink of an eye, his head was now laying on plush grass, looking at a newly bloomed flower. He quickly rose himself from the ground to look for his mother. She laid behind him, her eyes fluttering open, a hand drifting over her belly. They looked at each other in disbelief.
Jayce studied the hooded figure, “How?”He questioned. Minutes prior, they faced death, now they stood only hours away from their destination. The hooded stranger reached out his hand, pinching something between his fingers. Jayce put his hands out, a blue crystal in the shape of a tear, dropped in his palm.
10 Years Later
“Are they tight?” Xinema, the mother of the Talis siblings, knelt before her youngest. With her head raised high, she shook her head back and forth, indicating that the bands were just fine. Flexing her fingers to adjust, she took a fighting stance, fist raised to her cheek. “I look like that girl in my dreams.” She informed, faking a few jabs at her brother, who faked the injuries. “Pow!” She exclaimed, blowing air out of her cheeks for effect, throwing a slow-motion uppercut. Jayce threw his head back while stumbling. “Kids, please. Behave yourselves.” The children quickly gathered themselves but Aurora still examined her wrapped arms, continuing to flex her fingers in the process. “Aurora, we talked about the girl in your dreams-”
“She’s real, mamma. I know it.”
Ever since Aurora could remember, she had dreams of a girl with pink hair and blue eyes who grew up in Zaun, the Under City.
At the schools she had attended, they heard stories that those from Zaun were dirty animals. It wasn’t surprising to hear these words. Many Piltovians believed in democracy… only if the people of Zaun stayed as deep in the gallows as possible and had no say in what happened to their city. Being only ten years old, the youngest Talis knew better than most. Zaunites did what they had to do, to survive.
Aurora thought of the girl with pink hair.
She hadn’t forgotten the dream she had sometime this year.
Two adult men talked quietly in her home as her parents prepared the table. The man who was much thinner than the man beside him seemed frustrated and uneasy. “If everything goes according to plan, we’ll be alright.” The woman with blue hair tried to ease him, running her hands down his arms with a light squeeze. “Is terrifying that it comes down to us. The future of Zaun, in our hands…”
She remembers that same woman, laying on the concrete, no life behind her eyes.
Aurora had woken up that day with a new kind of understanding.
The youngest Talis looked up between her mother and brother who walked alongside her, both holding a hand of hers. She was lucky to have them by her side. Her heart felt heavy thinking about the girl with pink hair. A life without the ones she loved would not be a life worth living.
Jayce noticed his sister squeezed his hand for just a moment. He stared at the crown of her head, whatever she thought about, he would ask about it later. Lightly bumping her with his waist, her head propped up to catch his stare, her brows furrowed in confusion. “Worried?” He asked, the wrinkle on her skin smoothed. The gears turned as she thought about how she actually felt. It had been a while since Aurora had been back on school grounds. “A little…” A heavy sigh left her lips.
She recalled the various times they picked on her for the bandages and all the times she’s come home with them almost ripped up. “I just hope these kids are different.”
When the Kirammans took an interest in Jayce, he pleaded with them to enroll his sister in the elite school. “We’re a package deal. I promise you, Aurora will be on her best behaviour.” Although hesitant, they agreed when she passed all their requirements. His sister was as smart as their own, they saw an opportunity for their daughter to make a friend of her own.
Her mother squeezes her hand before letting go to caress her hair, “Just remember Aurora. You are special. They can never take that away from you.” Although confident in her words, her eldest could tell that she was more worried than anyone. Their mother always had the fear that if her daughter's secret was exposed they would take her away, or worse, banish her.
Piltover was created against Mages, against magic. If they knew what her daughter was capable of, they would fear her. “We’re almost near…” Their mother stopped in her tracks, kneeling before her youngest. “What have we learned?”
“People are afraid of things they can’t control.”
“And?”
“Only I can control my emotions… Only magic at the house… No teleporting… No fighting with magic…” Aurora begins to list off most of her mothers rules when Jayce places a hand on her shoulder, “Relax. Both of you… She is in control of her powers… You’ve got this.” He look between both of them as he speaks. His sister nods at him, a shimmering confidence in her eyes. Jayce offers his mother a soft smile, she returns it with a mouthed thank you.
“You guys aren’t dropping me off here right? You’re dropping me off at the gate?” Aurora asked, nervously looking between her guardians, earning a laugh from the two.
Suddenly she was a little girl again in their eyes, nervous to step into a new school. “Don’t laugh at me! This is a big deal!” Aurora whined, dragging both her mother and brother to continue walking with her.
A Year Later
Sitting outside, nose in a book, minding her business. The kids weren’t much different, they still teased her but not to her face. They secluded her, made her feel like she didn’t belong. This wasn’t new to her. The teachers were kind and made sure to stop the teasing whenever they could. Aurora was thick-skinned. She enjoyed her time alone. “I'm surprised you’ve survived so far.” A voice called out. The accent was thick and clearly recognizable. She let out a heavy sign, “Just because your parents patreon my brother, does not mean I want your company.” Aurora was not a fan of Caitlyn. A scoffed escaped the Kirammans mouth, “A friendly reminder that you are here because of them too.” Flinged their pack beside the tree she leaned against, she turned and plopped beside them. “We’re never going to be friends, are we?”
Caitlyn saw the way she peered at her through the side of their eye, pausing before peeling the corner of the page. “Maybe in another life where you don’t make everything a competition.” Bringing her knees to her chest, the sole Kiramman daughter frowned, turning her head to face the brunette beside her. Although they had never gotten along, Aurora never declined her company. She never understood why. “You’re staring.” The girl informed, tilting her head to look at them, she didn’t realize they had dozed off on her features. “You got questions in that giant head of yours?” Cailtlyn shot up straight to hold her head between her palms in shock, “My head is not giant!” She exclaimed, her brows furrowing together in frustration. It took her a moment to collect herself, earning a disapproving head shake from Aurora as she stuck her nose back into her book.
“I don’t understand you.” She began.
Aurora exhaled out of her nose, mimicking a scoff. She turned the page without reply. “You’re fine with them bullying you? You don’t even try to fight back.” Trying to read the girl who apathetic stared at the page frustrated Caitlyn. “You don’t even try to push me away either. Do you not care?” The slam of the book closing startled her. She stared at her hands, as they brought the book up to her chin. “You’ll never see me stooping to their level. We are not the same.” They calmly informed, using a free hand to prop herself up. Standing over Caitlyn, she held out a hand for her.
Her eyes rounded in surprise.
It was well known that Aurora didn’t want anyone to touch her bandages. Half way through her first year of their self defense classes, a boy who had tried one-upping her, ended up in the nurse's room with a sprained wrist and a bruised cheek. He was twice her size as they walked up to the mat, he was an attacker and she had to defend herself. As he flung at her multiple times, she realized that he had been reaching for her badges. Allowing him to get a good grip of her wrapping, the corner of her lips turned upwards as she kicked the back of his ankle to throw him off balance. He let out a loud yelp as the palm of her hand pushed his face to the mat, her foot on top of his wrist.
She wasn’t allowed to spar for the rest of the week.
The same bandaged hand still held out to her.
Aurora understood that although they were not the same, she was as secluded as she was. If she learned something over the years, there was nothing more loyal than an enemy and academic rivals they were. They had only respect for each other. “Would you like to join me and Jayce for lunch? He’s been talking my ears off about his new hextech theories. I need someone to distract him for me.” She batted her eyelashes, “Jayce and I.” she retorted. The two girls stood there silently before stifling their laugher.
A chill ran down her back as the echo of a revolver made birds scatter in the sky. Aurora stood in a beige hunting uniform, rubbing her hands together to gather some warmth, leaning against the closest rail she could find. Her eyes focused towards Piltover hiding behind the thick fog. Today the Kiramman daughter and the cities head enforcer battled for a marksmanship award. A dry chuckle escaped her lips knowing how obsurde it was that her mother was throwing a party afterwards. Shoving her hands in her pockets, a thud of frustrated footsteps neared her. “I can hear you smirking from all the way here, stop it.” Caitlyn shoves the trophy into Aurora’s chest, “She let me win.” She informed. Earning an eye roll from her academic rival, they shove the trophy back into her hands. “You deserve it.” A light groan escaped her lips, swatting the award out of her hands. “You knew?” The brunette half shrugged, “I had a feeling… Gayson is honerable. She’s a great mentor.” The youngest Talis pushed herself off the railing and circled Cailtyn like is she were pray, a playful look in her eyes. “You want a real competition?”
They casually waited as the assistants prepared the range, one of them handing the riffles into their hands. Aurora examine the bullets carved with the Kiramman symbol, she scoffed. The bluenette glanced at her frenemy giving her a once over as she slid her own into her weapon. She hadn’t found it a suprise that they believed it was distasteful. Caitlyn cocked back her riffle, “May the best win.” That annoying smirk curved on her lips again. Their head tilts to the side, staring at her with no response. They turn to take their place, “I would worry about yourself.”
As they stood in position, Cailtyn rolled her shoulder to destress. Aurora closed her eyes, taking in a deep breath. When the buzzer rang, the first target rose quickly. As both girls run pace to pace, a bead of sweat trickled down the Kiramman’s cheek. She was was proud of what she’s learned since entering the academy. Although her parents kept her confined in their rules, it allowed her to compete with Aurora above and beyond.
She couldn’t be bought to lose.
Before she could zero in on her last shot, Aurora slid down hill to her marking, mud splashin onto her skin before pushing off her toes to stand. Caitlyn took a sharp breath before adjusting her eye with the monocle, her hands slightly titering to the side.
Her index finger hugged the trigger, watching the marking spin out. She straighted, her nostrils flaring. “I had that shot!” Caitlyn yelled, pulling the safety trigger back on to toss is against the dirt. Marching towards her, she stood only inches away from her face, looming over her. “I saved you from wasting a shot, I would thank me.”
“You piss me off.” Kiramman sneered, looking for a tinge of remorse in her eyes. “When do I not, your magesty?” She immediately tuned away, her ponytail slapping her rival in the face. Aurora closed her eyes, lips falling to a line as she swatted her long hair away. A heavy sigh escaped her lipswatching Caitlyn puff out her chest as she headed back to her mothers party. Shaking her head, she picks up the rifle left behind, handing them back to servents.
Jogging up the hill to catch up, she playfully bumps into her, causing them to stumble to the side more than she had meant to. Kiramman shoves her with the tips of her fingers before touching shoulders with her again.
“You’re a sore loser, Cait.”
“I promise, I’m working on it.”
END
Note: This is a raw prologue of my newest fanfiction. I wanted to publish it and get some feedback about it. I’m a really big fan of Arcane (a bigger fan of Vi). I am not satisfied with how they swept Caitlyn and Vi under the rug. There’s much wrong with how their relationship is portrayed. I will being with stating; I hate Caitlyn. Her character is so well written, and I get EVERYTHING. I get she’s secluded, i get the grief, i get the comparison between her and Jinx- DONT COME AT ME. I’ve legit tried validating her experience on my own terms and i just can’t.
In this series my OC Aurora and Caitlyn will be two sides of the same coin. Clearly i can’t explain without spoilers. Caitlyn had so much potential to be good. She had the intentions of wanting to end the oppression, but was blinded with grief and pain. Aurora believes that Piltover is to blame. Violence is a response of oppression. She despises the person Caitlyn becomes.
How will i factor Caitlyn and Vi relationship. It will still exist in this “timeline” I just believe Vi needs to have a fucking spine and actual morals. I have yet to decide if my who my OC ends up with. If everything goes according to plan, she’ll have a good ending :)
Her relationship with Caitlyn would be Acadamic Rivals to Friends to Rivals. Violets would be Fated Lovers trope (if u don’t know what that mean, it means i get to play god. )
on another note aurora will kinda be OP. as mentioned she had magical abilities, i explain further in the series or yall can theorize how she had powers.
update: this seems to be getting traction so i might make it into a few parts

//YEEEEE//
Ximena rose her chin and shook her head.
"I will not leave. I pleaded with Sarai to see reason. But she will not, I want her to look at me when she cuts me down."
Proteus gritted his teeth and looked out over the idyllic scholar square.
"Yes, but does it need to be your death that proves the point? Surely Viren won't allow -"
"You weren't here when their boy tortured his sister. You weren't here when they whispered it our influence."
Ximena stepped closer, touching his cheek.
"Proteus take Inessa and leave. I will not have you both stay here for this. Viren was poisoned, who knows what he saw or said in those early hours? I will not -"
Proteus barred his teeth.
"I will not abandon my queen. Find another who is spineless Ximena."
He gripped her wrist, his nails digging into her skin.
"But you are needed. Tanwyn is still young, there is much she needs to -"
"My girl will grow with or without me. She has already made me proud."
Ximena pulled away and walked into the library. Proteus was on her heels they both stopped before Violet. She looked up with a small frown.
"Yes?"
She didn't like them, she was sheilded in Spring. But even if Sarai wouldn't dare harm children...her soldiers wouldn't care. Violet was 14, pretty for her age - they'd do what they wished to her.
"Jack and you will need to leave for Spring early."
She stood, already ready to protest. Ximena didn't have time to debate, she gripped her shoulders, nails digging into her skin till she cried out.
"Head to the tunnels you remember them yes? Be there both by Sundown and do not come out. Do you understand Violet?"
------
Violet and Jack flinched as the cries began, the fires. She peered up being able to see some of the square. Soldiers swarmed it, she watched in growing horror as scholars were torn from the libraries.
As maids and other servants were forced to their knees and cut down. Jack stepped up with her, finding Xinema in the fray. She didn't let the soldiers close, her magic making them turn on each other.
But she didn't help her own, that's what this was.
"They're targeting us."
Jack whispered, his voice wavering. He gripped Violet's wrist and tugged her toward the tunnel.
"We need to get home before they come here. Violet get away from the -"
They both flinched away as the fire flared brighter, vines snaking on the ground tugging at nobles and anyone else.
Jack hissed as the vine pressed against the window but didn't push through.
Everyone knew about Day's Skinning Tree. The thing ate bodies and drank blood. Prisoners were fed it when they were found guilty. It was said to be semi-sentient. It's red leaves rose above the palace, shading it like a wave of blood.
"Violet!"
Jack wrenched her away and they began to run for the tunnels. He could hear soldiers storming through the library, laughing to each other.
His focused on her, on getting her out. They needed to get to Spring and warn them.
Time ticked by, the weight of everything that was happening was crushing in upon her. Her mouth felt dry, her heart felt as if it was being torn from her very body. Was this what fate dictated for her? After everything she had been through, after everything that had happened in those younger years? Cursed, fated to never be happy.
The young girl who use to laugh in the grass and flowers, who would spend hours waving flowers into her sisters hair. The girl who would happily spend time with her father and share wistful dreams. To find her mate and build a love so true, to build a legacy and a kingdom which help promise and understanding for all. To have children who she would love and watch grow into young adults.
The pain that stained her hands never seemed to go away. Death lingered over her, always ready to strike and remind her how tightly it has her on its leash. Telling her that her happiness is limited.
Her finger held his hand tightly, her lips pressed feverish kissed to the back of it as she stared at him. The council had taken over in her absence, the council had acted in what they thought was the best interest of all. She could hear the screams, the scent of fire filled her home.
They were coming, they were coming. She felt the brush of the vines of her tree brush against her skin, her eyes rose towards the beautiful flowers that hung over them. The vines and branches that were loving woven in their rooms, the flowers glowing with the very light of Day which was in her veins.
“Protect our home, please. Don’t let it be taken from us, don’t let my children be hurt.” She whispered, begging to it to aid her in her time of need.
The flowers seemed to glow brighter, her gaze lowered back to Viren as she kissed his hand again. “Please don’t leave me.”

“Beebe’s films are both erudite and punk, lo-fi yet high-brow shorts that wrestle with a disfigured, contemporary American landscape.” —Wyatt Williams, Creative Loafing
BIO: Roger Beebe is a filmmaker whose work since 2006 consists primarily of multiple-projector performances and essayistic videos that explore the world of found images and the "found" landscapes of late capitalism. He has screened his films around the globe at such unlikely venues as the CBS Jumbotron in Times Square and McMurdo Station in Antarctica as well as more likely ones including the Sundance Film Festival and the Museum of Modern Art with solo shows at Anthology Film Archives, The Laboratorio Arte Alameda in Mexico City, and Los Angeles Filmforum among many other venues. Beebe is also a film programmer: he ran Flicker, a festival of small-gauge film in Chapel Hill, NC, from 1997-2000 and was the founder and Artistic Director of FLEX, the Florida Experimental Film Festival from 2004-2014. He is currently a Professor in the Departments of Art and Theatre, Film, and Media Arts at the Ohio State University.

my method for cinema-going in the last, like, almost 5 months is to only go to the small local cinemas and only during the last like 2 weeks of showing and i gotta say its great!! well ventilated and less than 20 people in the screen every time so everyone was distanced. and u can sneak snacks under ur mask which is always fun chuck some haribos in and eat em like a horse! hasnt failed me yet LOL. not sure how different that would be in like america as opposed to wales but small local arts building xinemas are so much cheaper and less popular and i didnt feel particularly unsafe in either one!
for semantics Im not in america Im in canada even tho theyre practically the same thing lol but that sounds really nice!! the last small cinema that I can remember got shut down a while ago tho so I think Ive only got access to the big ones now. that being said I do know which ones tend to be more busy so I'll just have to wait a bit and then go to the other ones lol

AAA ITS DONE!!
Ride-or-Die became one of my favourite choices book and so I had a huge urge to draw the whole crew together! I dedicated my free time after work to this for 5 weeks straight and I’m super happy with the end result. Now that this is done I can finally replay RoD. The writers and artists did an amazing job on this book - It started out cheesy but it slowly turned into a heart-wrenching and gripping read. I can’t wait for book 2 and to see the crew again. Please let me break my wife Mona out of jail @playchoices
Also I created a ko-fi page recently. If you like what you see and want to fund my chocolate addiction, please consider supporting me! Link is in my blog desc too. ko-fi.com/ladywaltz

It was a warm day. It was windy, the sun was setting, and you can feel the breeze from the open window.
Ximena climbs through her window and sneaks Miles in. She digs through her drawer and pulls out what she’s looking for.
“—and this is the suit i came up with.” She passed her journal to Miles, who stares at the design. “It looks decent,” he held his chin in thought, “at night, it can be very easy to be undetected. ” He closes the journal and stands up.
“Let’s go to my place. I can make the suits and then we can practice and see how well they do. Sounds good?”
Ximena throws a thumbs up, putting her black varsity jacket on as they both make their way to the window. They stood frozen in their tracks when her door slowly starts opening up.
Miles panics, before he gets a word out, Ximena grabs and lifts them to the ceiling. They both camouflaged to not be seen.
‘Shit, it might be Claire, my girlfriend. I missed school for three days. I haven’t answered any of her calls nor messages.’ To say the least, Claire was irritated and worried. But actually she felt way too many emotions, mainly nervousness, anxiety, even fear and a tune of anger. How could her love just disappear and ignore her, not explaining a thing? Xinema knew that could lead to disastrous consequences. On the other hand, she was worried to the point she called every friend of Ximena's and tried to get in touch with her family, trying to learn what was happening. It was all in vain...And the girl could wait no longer. She was the type who have little patience once their lover starts ignoring them and gives no hint on the situation. What if Claire doesn't find her?..No, she will. Otherwise, her heart will sink, which Ximena also must know as the brown-haired personally had a discussion one time asking to answer her as soon as possible no matter what. "Darling, please...No. Ximena Cortez, I know you're here. Come out and face me right now unless you want me you drag you. You DO NOT want me to...Ah, just get here!" - Claire sounded demanding as she came too close to the place where the two were hiding, her voice cracked revealing her worries yet it'd be better not to make the situation even worse.
