considering that openings are awful and my script WIPs have undecided first lines, i went with the fic option, and horrifyingly, i’ve spent so much time with the fucker that i didn’t even need to look it up

like, it's especially hard to say at this stage because if people are writing about characters outside their ethnicity/experience one would hope they've done a lot of research and actually consulted w/ people of the effected group, and... we don't really know anything about this show except the idea? anyway i don't trust them as storytellers anymore so i won't be watching it lol

I’ll see what the reviews are when it’s out (because at this point I just hope they don’t ax it on principle because if that happens with that then... anything potentially offensive that might actually not be offensive could get axed before it even exists?? the handmaid’s tale, again??? like when you start with censorship you’re not traveling a good road) and decide but like...  obviously I hope they do or otherwise it’s gonna be shit but again, there’s not even a script or anything and all this freaking out over the mere possibility that such a thing exists is just... I can’t get behind that. pre-emptive censorship before the thing even exists is a real slippery slope. :/

apparently authorities in New Zealand have confirmed that Barnaby is, in fact, a Kiwi.

on one hand: can we all now accept that this ancient law is ridiculous (and let's face it, founded in racism/xenophobia ONLY TRUE PURE AUSTRALIANS CAN SERVE AND RULE), and as much fun as I'm having watching pollies fall to it - can we please now get rid of it.

on the other: Barnaby fucking Joyce being forced to resign would be a thing of beauty. It's not as satisfying as say, Pauline Hanson, but I'll take it. Come on universe, give me this, kick Barnaby out on his angry Alf Stewart face.

for the wip meme, i'll give you a few too: yesterday, wonder, before, silence, sunset.

oh dang these are all good words

i have a few yesterdays, but they’re mostly boring.

Driving through the sleeping city yesterday on a motorcycle was surreal enough, but it’s even creepier without the sound of an engine filling his ears.

the only kind of wonder i have is the think-y kind, sadly:

Piper starts to wonder if she accidentally made him be nicer to her, but then his eyes harden and he adds, “But you understand my sister comes first, right?”

before:

Well, it was awkward before, but Piper’s ideal picnic generally does not involve someone who held a sword to her throat.

They lapse into silence, only punctuated by the rustle of the Fonzie bag as they eat.

almost didn’t have a sunset! i misplaced this fic lol

She knows the science behind a sunset, but now that she knows magic and gods are real, she wonders if someone is giving him a grand send-off.

Not to worry -- whatever makes you happiest <3 And I try not to let it get to me, but even so, it’s gotten to the point where I barely do like half the things you tag me in, when you’re pretty consistent with mine, so I say, it’s only fair. Speaking of which, I should probably get around to finishing a couple other memes I was tagged in at one time or another, yours included, so chances are it’ll all blow over by then at least :D

i'm super wary of the slavery show because of how it's handled in GoT but for people to even bring their jewishness into this... to me, a jewish person, that really reeks of antisemitism...

in between that and ‘but it’s white men’ when on this website you don’t ever know how Jewish people are classified (I mean someone sent me hate for three days once because I said that in Italy being Jewish doesn’t automatically make you *poc* unless you’re black and you’re discriminated for being Jewish and not necessarily for your skin color which is how it works but okay) I’m just.... feeling very uncomfortable about the road this is taking? like, again, I don’t trust d&d to handle delicate things but it’s because I don’t like how they do it in GoT, their ethnicity doesn’t matter in that equation and honestly even if I don’t trust them they should be able to pen that show and then if it sucks it sucks and we don’t watch it, if it doesn’t suck... then it’s a good dystopia and there’s nothing bad about good dystopias? like I’m just not really okay with this idea that THIS KIND OF SHIT CANNOT EXIST. what. why. this is like... subtle gatekeeping ie ‘if you belong to this ethnicity you can only make shows/write books about this, this and that but about this this and that��� and where you draw the line then? like, no? but again, the post I saw that set me off was like ‘if you watch this and like it I’ll come and personally murder your family’ ???????? you can’t say that shit about a tv show that’s totally fucked up
