A part of him knew he wasn’t coming back. He may not have known consciously that he was going to be abducted, but at this point we know he thought he was dying of the brain abnormality. He knew he was dead either way. He had already told Scully in the motel scene that she needed to do more with her life. Some part of him *knew* he wouldn’t come back from this trip. And he went anyway. Because it’s who he is, and because the alternative is dying slowly while Scully watches by his bedside. My fucking heart 💔😩😭

What kills me about this is the cute little smile and the gleeful mischief in his expression as he coyly looks away, almost bashful, but 100% knowing the chaos he has unleashed...the smug, smug, good-looking bastard. #He Knew What He What He Was Doing

It should be noted, that Mulder probably tells her to be quiet because the Lone Gunmen are on the 2-way radio listening to the conversation.
