Princess of Fire, Princess of Light
Fic spotted! It's time for my annual fic post, and this year the thing that I dragged out of my mind into material form is from the xc2/zelda fusion au I literally dreamed up a few months ago!
#xenoblade chronicles 2#xc2/zelda fusion au#this was fun!#I might write more might not#but I'd be much more motivated to write and share if I knew people liked it#wink wink#my writing#zelda/xc2 fusion au

Ok real talk though being a zelda fan and a xenoblade fan gives me so much whiplash going back and forth between both extreme ends of the destiny spectrum The power of a destined fate changes based on the game (tears of the kingdom on the extreme "fate is unchangeable" end, ocarina of time for example on the "fate is what you make of it" end) but when you look at the metanarrative of the series it could not Possibly subscribe to the idea of destiny more than it already does. Once at the beginning of time a demon cursed a goddess and a hero to battle him forever and that curse singlehandedly shaped the course of time for an entire kingdom. Xenoblade on the other hand I mean. I don't even need to say anything here. You all know, every single game interrogates the idea of fate for all its worth and discards it in favor of the unwritten future. Far into the flow of time a boy finds a sword and forges a world of his own making. We've seen it happen three times. No doubt it has happened before; no doubt it will happen again.
#for reference this entire spiel was inspired by the zelda art I just reblogged as linked at the top of the post#(the one with her standing in front of the hidden relief from the beginning of the game)#now I need klaus pre-fuckening with a sword. why has no one done that yet#zelda/xc2 fusion au#<- surprise tag for later (if I ever get that far in writing it)#original tag

Last night I had a dream that was pretty much a xenoblade 2/totk crossover. Mythra had Zelda's role and Pyra was Link (what was Rex doing? No clue, but he didn't go back to the past or anything.) It didn't get much further than that, but I remember Rauru was appearing as himself and my sleeping brain was like "what if ALL the zelda races were from different ancient Titans--" it actually kind of works though if Addam is Rauru and Mythra got flung back to the past
#xenoblade chronicles 2#ahaha I'm not putting this in the zelda tag (if I can help it. obviously I need to say the name of the game)#it's a fun au to think about tbh. might keep playing around with it#original tag#zelda/xc2 fusion au

Ok so re: this post (the zelda fusion au for xc2), I have continued thinking and writing about the au but I'm not happy with the fic I've drafted for it yet, so instead let me tell you about the Champions in this au.
The neat thing about xc2's main party is that there's actually a party member for every element present in botw/totk: water (Nia and Dromarch), fire (Brighid and Mórag), lightning (Zeke and Pandoria), and wind (Vandham and Roc). This would let me just assign each of those characters their respective element and make them that race from the zelda games: Zora, Goron, Gerudo, and Rito, respectively.
It would let me do that, except I thought about Rito!Brighid with blue fiery wings for 0.2 seconds and now I have to do that, so things got shuffled a bit.
What I'm actually doing is letting each character keep their element, but assigning the elements to different peoples than they are in the zelda games. It ends up as Brighid and Mórag being Rito; Nia and Dromarch being Gorons; Vandham and Roc being Zoras; and Zeke and Pandoria actually just stay Gerudo.
(And for anyone wondering about Tora, he's a Korok. Poppi is a Sheikah robot he built; relative humanity vs. Guardian-ness is still up for debate.)
#original tag#xenoblade chronicles 2#I'm having a LOT of fun with this one tbh#I'm still struggling with how much I want to be zelda lore vs xc2#like is it the master sword or the aegis sword?#are they worshipping hylia or pneuma?#etc etc#zelda/xc2 fusion au

I'm reading over what I've written for the zelda/xc2 fic and Rex is just dying on the ground for 700 words while Pyra and Mythra hash out their emotions
#original tag#pacing is my passion /j#but the good news is I'm almost done! one more section to write and then editing#I guess I actually have to think of a tag to name this au. weird#normally I don't post enough about what I'm writing to need to do that#zelda/xc2 fusion au

boom
“Oh, dear…are you alright?” Mythra groaned, blinking at the sunlight as she squeezed her eyes shut. Why did it have to be so bright? …Wait, why was it so bright? They had been underground, investigating the gloom seeping from under the palace. She and Pyra and Rex, and they’d found… She bolted upright, colliding with something solid. “Ow!” She recoiled instinctively, rubbing at her forehead. “Addam! Are you alright?” At the sound of another person, Mythra forced her eyes open to see where she was and who had found her. The first goal was swiftly forgotten as she stared, slack-jawed, at the two people across from her. Neither looked anything like any person she’d ever seen in Hyrule, nor like any she’d seen or heard described from other lands. What they did look like, though… “My apologies! I didn’t mean to give you a fright, there.” At her lack of response, he frowned and continued, “Ah, but where are my manners? I am Addam, and this is my younger brother Milton. We are the Zonai sages in residence in Queen Lora’s court. I assure you, we have no ill intentions toward you.” …Were the statues they’d found beneath Hyrule Castle. Zonai. And Queen Lorathat was the name of the first queen of Hyrule. It all pointed to one impossible conclusion. “Oh, this cannot be happening,” Mythra whispered. She was in the Age of Founding.
~~~
Mythra looked across the great hall to where Addam was conversing with the Gerudo king. It’s him. It has to be. Unfortunately, she couldn’t be entirely certain. She’d only gotten a brief look at the corpse before being flung into the past, but the jewelry and regalia looked eerily similar to what the king was wearing now, even after being aged by thousands of years. The corpse was shriveled and dried, but she just couldn’t ignore the resemblance between it and the man she saw before her. She’s just not sure. And she couldn’t make that accusation without being sure, she knew. She’s a nobody, a new member of the court taken in under the queen’s kindness like so many others to all but Addam, Milton, and Lora herself. The Gerudo king was a respected ally of Hyrule in this time, at least for now. She had to have more than a vague resemblance to a Demon King no one’s heard of yet if she’s going to say anything. Addam said something and the king laughed in response, giving him a friendly slap on the shoulder. It made her doubt herself, her suspicions; could this man really be the one to cast Hyrule into such darkness? Maybe he wasn't, not yet. And that’s when the idea came to her: maybe she could do something. Maybe that’s why she was in the past: with knowledge of the future, she could steer him away from that evil. She could do more than seal away the Calamity, now: she could stop it from ever having happened. Her mind made up, she strode across the room with purpose. Addam noticed her approach and moved aside, welcoming her into the conversation. “Mythra! I’m so glad you could join us. This is the young lass I was telling you about,” he said to the Gerudo king, “the newest addition to Lora’s court.” “Of course! Welcome to Hyrule, Mythra,” the king said, turning to her and inclining his head. “I am Malos, king of the Gerudo.”
I've been watching tears of the kingdom analysis videos (gameplay not story lol) and I got smacked with inspiration for the xc2/botw fusion au again. Give me 15 minutes
#zelda/xc2 fusion au#any time I try to picture zonai!Addam it just turns into Rauru because I want him to have that amount of fluff#anyway please ask me for more details#motivate me to write more botw era stuff. stuff I can post on ao3 without messing up the timeline
Hey, I was reading through your Bio and it said to ask you about your aus, so what fun and/or wild aus do you have?
Oh, this is going to be a long one. Strap in!
First I have to talk about dream! (yes it's spelled with the exclamation mark, it's a lyric thing), I really have to. It's...well, it started as a minor canon divergence au where I could play around with my thoughts about Meyneth and Alvis, but now it's so much more. At this point it's pretty much a full canon retelling where I take two steps to the left and cannonball into self-indulgence. The doc is almost 40k words and I've barely started writing this thing into real scenes and not deranged rambling. If I tried to explain every aspect of canon I've hit with the self-indulgence laser we'd be here all day, so for just a taste: I rewrote the trinity processor lore so that nothing is actually changed mechanics-wise but it makes more sense to me because I don't know what a Conduit is and I don't care. Sharla and Fiora have actual arcs with 50% more character development. Mikhail gets the Tyrea redemption arc and works with Nia post-canon (and I gave him wings, because why not). I'm living so fully in my own version of post-canon that I barely read fics outside the canon time period anymore. It's absolutely fantastic, 10/10, maybe one day I'll actually write the thing.
On the purely xenoblade 1 side of things, my roommate and I came up with an au a while ago we've been calling Seven Solos. It's basically a series of bad end aus where through a series of diabolus ex machinas, we isolate each member of the party in their own fic to be the sole main character of xc1 and watch as they crash and burn in the attempt to fight the Mechon/Zanza (if they even get that far). This is full-on bad end-MCD-hurt no comfort territory, we were just like "how can we make this as miserable as possible for all characters involved?" Most of them start out with killing most (if not all but one) of the main party members. Out of all of them I think Melia's is the one that comes the closest to actual victory? But it's tempered by the fact that the reason Zanza can't awaken is that the Bionis is now completely drained of ether, so...
On the purely 2 side, there's the xc2/zelda fusion au (that I actually have a written fic for! Imagine that!) that I've been playing around with for a while. It's really just transplanting the characters from 2 into the setting of botw/totk and sending them through the plot, but it actually works surprisingly well. I've been having a lot of fun trying to keep the major plot points for each character from 2 and slide those into place in the new setting and story. I'm tentatively trying to write a continuation of that now, but I keep getting bogged down in Pyra's introspection about her guilt and fears, so we'll see.
And this isn't actually a xenoblade au but it is on the rotation of things that come into my brain at various intervals so: pokémon au of ace attorney. It's mostly just character stuff about what pokémon which character would have (and in the process it's picked up a lot of daemon au flavoring), but there is one plot-heavy bit I love and that's Athena getting tossed into the role of protagonist for the story of pokémon violet. I was playing the game and had the passing thought that Athena and Nemona would probably get along really well, then I got to Alfornada and it sealed the deal. Ngl this one might never see the light of day on ao3 because I'd want to write other character pieces first and I have a lot less drive to write those, but never say never!
#asks#thanks for sending this in! you're the first person to ever actually ask about my aus#I might make separate posts to talk more about some of these. putting this together was a lot of fun#my writing
It's done! I finished a fic! Now I need help to brainstorm a title and then I'm ready to get this thing OUT of my head into the world
Accepted my fate and started a new file for the zelda/xc2 fusion au
#original tag#zelda/xc2 fusion au#right now the file is just titled Memory but that's a boring title#I am absolutely crowdsourcing suggestions right now please. help me out#(the fic is all pre-calamity and it's about pyra struggling with being the useless second princess with no powers)#(and then the calamity hits and everything goes to hell it's fun)
Ok so "keep playing around with this" might've turned into "write 1,000 words of Pyra angst in a night" but the wifi here is absolutely horrible when I can access it so I'll say more about this once I'm back home
Last night I had a dream that was pretty much a xenoblade 2/totk crossover. Mythra had Zelda's role and Pyra was Link (what was Rex doing? No clue, but he didn't go back to the past or anything.)
