i watched the x-men films for the first time ever here are my thoughts *spoilers obviously* :D
small backstory: i was going to go watch Deadpool & Wolverine however i have seen the previous deadpool movies but i’ve never watch the x-men films at all, my knowledge of that universe is minimal. my coworker suggested i at least watch Logan before watching Deadpool & Wolverine so i did.
Logan is easily one of the best Marvel films i have ever watched in my life, like top 3 films for sure it was amazing im still thinking about this movie weeks later. so i watch Deadpool & Wolverine and realize im low key obsessed with logan so might as well watch all the x-men films ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ALSO I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE FROM THE COMICS DONT COME FOR ME
The Original Trilogy
Overall i enjoyed the first two films, i think The Last Stand might be my least favorite of the whole franchise im not gonna lie
i’m just gonna say it, i was so not here for the Logan & Jean romance, like im kind of a hater so if this upsets you than this post is not for you lmao
ADORED JEANSCOTT WITH MY HEART AND SOUL !!! THEYRE SO FUCKING CUTE !!!!
Right of the bat, Logan & Jean’s romance felt SO forced. like it wasn’t believable for me, in the first movie it felt like Logan decided he was in love with Jean, not that he is actively falling in love with her, it was kinda weird
Meanwhile you can like clearly tell that Scott & Jean are in love with each other, but it feels like Logan’s character is just disregarding that
I understand in the comics it’s supposed to be a love triangle of sorts, i just think that if they wanted to do that for the films they could have portrayed it better
Ororo is an angel i love her
charles & eric need to make out
scott summers you ball of sunshine
i’m glad the rogue crush thing died in the first film bc ohmygod that was hard to watch
my favorite is X2 of this trilogy i really liked the plot and how it expanded more into Logan’s story
The Wolverine Trilogy
Origins wasn’t like, super terrible? i guess? my least favorite of this trilogy for sure though
i liked the plot twist that his girlfriend of 6 years was manipulating him, i didn’t see it coming, i was like WOW that’s fucked up
was disappointed he forgave her like wtf 😭
deadpool thing was weird i didn’t like that
good film to learn logan’s backstory, his brother was so fucking annoying though
The Wolverine was a decent film, if ur looking for an x-men film that’s more action centric than mutant centric this is your film
it felt like a wolverine side quest lol, nothing crazy going on, but i liked it more than Origins
logan is just tired
snake lady’s powers were cool
this girl is never going to see logan again so at least she got what she could
it goes without saying that Logan 2017 is the best film in the whole x-men/fox franchise
i could definitely make a whole post going into a deep dive of Logan but i’ll just keep it short
Logan’s dedication to taking care of Charles warms my heart in a way you cannot imagine, he truly cares so deeply for that man, charles gave him the opportunity of having a new family and i feel like logan will always be grateful for him
Logan & Laura :’)
it was like watching Logan go from only caring about kids in a “i’m a teacher” way to seeing Laura in a “i’m her caretaker now” kind of way, like there was a shift in his character that he wasn’t expecting
my little family of three that definitely lived happily ever after
my favorite scene of the whole film was when Logan realizes that it was his clone self that stabbed Charles, and his immediate gut reaction was to say “It wasn’t me” and to reassure Charles that Logan would NEVER do that
so that Charles would never die thinking one of his closest friends (AND SON FIGURE) would ever betray him like that and kill him
LIKE THAT WAS SO IMPORTANT TO LOGAN, HE DIDNT WANT CHARLES TO DIE THINKING HE KILLED HIM ;_________;
Logan 2017 the film that you are
X-Men Prequel Films
oh boy here go
right off the bat i’m going to say Days of Future Past exceeds all four of these films, so fucking good, my favorite after Logan
but yeah First Class wasn’t like, terrible per say, i just found myself a little bored ngl
absolutely here for eric & charles love story, they’re literally friends to lovers to enemies to still lovers but they’re still enemies i adore it
i liked the character that mystique brought (& jennifer lawrence) but it was just such a jump from the mystique in the first films
also i just think that if eric wants to kill his abuser then he should go for it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just saying charles it was a lil weird u wanted to stop him
i get the premise, setting up the basis of the x-men, but i just found it a little lacking
DAYS OF FUTURE PAST
amazing 10/10 movie, i genuinely enjoyed every second, actually felt like a superhero movie
great balance of logan not knowing what the fuck is going on vs charles knowing exactly what to do next & logan just going along with it i love it
i’ve heard legends of how amazing quicksilver is in these films and this went beyond my expectations, fantastic character AND amazing showcase of his powers, the writers cooked on this, also makes me want to rewatch wandavision bc i didn’t appreciate his character enough son i’m so sorry
prison breaking out eric sequence was amazing
there’s so much more but just overall amazing film
apocalypse was definitely something? i mean it was probably difficult to follow up days of futures past so i can’t blame them, not like the worst film ever but ….. idk
THINGS I LOVED !! young jean & scott :’) !!!!! genuinely so happy to see the beginning of their friendship & romantic relationship, they’re literally so fucking cute AND young storm omfg a baby 🫶🏾
took me a second to realize it was oscar isaac lol, also OUCH eric’s little family but also like wtf was that death ??? 😭
idk plot was just kinda everywhere, nothing super memorable, also i just found it funny that logan was there for like less that 5 minutes and all he did was grunt lmfao at least he popped off on stryker for the millionth time fuck that guy
uhm dark phoenix
the one and only highlight for me for dark phoenix was once again, jean & scott lmfao
the whole solar flare & alien race thing was kinda weird, they didn’t even explain the alien race thing that well, idk what to even say about this movie
i thought it was weird that hank & eric were suddenly jumping on the “let’s kill jean” train when like they know she didn’t mean to kill raven ??? 😭 like wtf
someone explain the timeline bs to me bc i was surprised that jean “died” AGAIN.
wasn’t the point of futures past that logan now in the present is experiencing the new timeline in which charles, scott, and jean are all alive
so why did jean die in this, does that not defeat the purpose, like she’s alive in the present
or were they trying to plan another prequel film in which she comes back, again. then it’s just a repeating storyline from the og trilogy
anyways it was kinda bad
i don’t even want to talk about The New Mutants i’m gonna be real, it was also bad
and that is my long af reaction to watching all the x-men films for the first time. if you’re reading this and read all my yapping then thank you i really appreciate it lol 🫶🏾 in conclusion, i’m sad i missed out on a whole era of these movies when they were being released (probably bc im avengers obsessed lol) but i’m glad i did watch them now, and now i have a new universe to hyper fixate on lmfao (and logan) amazing movies !! gonna go rewatch Logan now ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
also here is my full x-men movies ranking, deadpool films included:

Note
how do you feel about the way sabertooth and the relationship between wolverine and sabertooth are depicted in the live action movies?
ohhhh i feel
the feeling is mostly that it had sooo much more potential. they almost acknowledged it with the brief scene where sabes takes logans dogtags off eriks desk…the comic went into a little more detail for how their relationship was in that universe at least
Tumblr media
(X-Men 2 Movie Prequel: Wolverine)
im not the biggest fan of tyler mane sabretooth(FROM A WRITING STANDPOINT, NOT A VISUAL ONE. HE SLAYED SEVERELY.) and i think his character couldve been more fleshed out to match logans cocky personality style in those films. like..wheres the banter. that logan wouldve loveddddd silly banter with that guy. but then, ofc, theyve probably end up friends(like they did in the comic lol)
x2 feels like it shouldve had sabes in it, since it was all about weapon x. kinda weird it didnt(tho his name was on a screen for a brief second)
i plan on making a post about this at somepoint, but yall should check out the andrew walker 1994 xmen script if u wanna read a good sabes(he spends most of the film in a suit!). the ending falls off a bit imo, but the rest is pretty decent. he even has a fancy dinner with logan ^^
as for their xmen origins versions…..ive made manyyy posts on that movie. love it to bits n pieces<3 victor didnt really become sabretooth in that film, tho he mightve somehow taken the name after it was all over if he ended up in the merc business, just to match with his brother.

rewatching xmen movies and heres my current ranking (js of the ones ive rewatched so far from the first xmen to dofp)
first class - that will always be my fav of the prequels, idk i think its js what rly fueled the obsessed for me, the beach scene is heartbreaking, i love love love the training montage, its js so amazing
days of future past - theres a lot of scenes in here that kinda piss me off like in the plane when charles is like hows raven and eriks like i can see why she meant sm to u like bitch hes asking if his sister is oky and healthy but thats js a small example overall i love this movie
xmen - its the original, its a slay, i hate the jean/logan thing but whatever, i love how logan sees rogue as his daugther sort of, its rly sweet, erik is so silly idk like sir why u be fighting in ur chanel boots if not to look all pretty for ur on again off again bf
x2 - i love kurt omg, this movie kinda flip flops with the first xmen but idk, im morally against bobby drake and ima be honest i have no idea why, lowkey feel bad for pyro even tho bro needs therapy like, hes going through shit, hes kinda funny tho tbh
xmen origins wolverine - i dont think this is terrible tbh, its not great, a tad bit boring tbh, but whatever. logan and victor look so similar in some shots so great casting lol, the plot twist w kayla was rly sad and the fact logan went back to protect her even after he knew is actually wild and rly sweet of him, yeah this ones pretty mid imo
xmen the last stand - its so ironic idk, jean killing scott and going straight to logan, like i know half of that was the pheonix and not jean but still its fucking funny to me, not in a good way rly, charles dying is sad, actually fuck erik for abandoing raven there like sir what are u doing, and then erik having a mental breakdown when he temporarily loses his mutant powers like lmao
the wolverine - tbh i kinda hate this one, it js gives me the ick on so many levels, there are some good parts, but js it reminds me of some things i lowkey dont wanna be reminded of so maybe thats why i hate it, writing couldve been better, logan looks hot so thats a plus but idk its js a major no for me

What order would you recommend watching the x-men movies in so far I’ve watched xmfc dofp apocalypse but I’m not sure if I started in the right place so if you could help I would really appreciate that!!
I think watching x-men days of future past without watching x- men first class takes away some of the depth of the movie... but you can watch it now anyway 😚
but I personally recommend watching in order of release, although I've seen mixed reactions to the first trilogy.
So let me explain. The 2000s movies are the original trilogy, X-Men (2000), X2 (2003) and X-Men 3: The Last Stand (2006)
They introduce the mutant universe, and Wolverine is portrayed as a central character. They're pretty dated in terms of CGI and it has some cringe dialogue, but that was standard for 2000 superhero movies 🤷
anyways there's a lot of good stuff in these movies, the queer and racist metaphors are present, and i think X2 is the best of them.
I recommend you to watch the original trilogy first before going to the prequel movies.
you ask me, why? if you wanna x-men days of future past make sense, you have at least watch X3: the last stand (and the post-credit scene).
After that, you can go to the prequel trilogy, which starts with X-Men First Class, and the main characters are Magneto and Professor X.
The order is: X-Men First Class, X-Men Days of Future Past, X-Men Apocalypse and X- Men Dark Phoenix.
The Wolverine solo movies were a failure with exception of Logan, which is the only movie I would tell you to watch. Logan takes place in an alternate timeline and is not the same Logan from the first trilogy.
IMPORTANT‼️ keep in mind that x-men days of future past changed the timeline of the first trilogy, so after you watch everything and you have trouble understanding the timelines and plot holes, you can send me a ask too.

but doesn't days of future past retroactively decide that x1 through x3 and origins: wolverine are all in that "deleted" universe too? bc the beginning of dofp took place in the future of the main xmcu and then they split the timeline. every xmen movie that came out afterward should then be in the new xmen timeline (10005), including logan. and assuming logan is in that new timeline, i have no issue believing that the dp movies take place there too.
but also, dp2 ends with time travel shit that literally erases basically all the events of the movie so realistically dp1 and 2 should be separate from dp3. i assume that since dp3 outright says wade is in the 616 when he interviews to be part of the avengers, and THEN says he's in 10005 later, that the jump there was over the events of dp2, and that his time shenanigans directly caused that split.
but ALSO... despite being namedropped in dp3, the way that the loki show handles the multiverse and the TVA is not consistent with the TVA/multiverse lore within the movie. so there's honestly multi-multiverse shit going on here to the degree that i think it's all just... whatever
Starting this off with saying I haven’t see the Loki show and never plan to. I’m here for the X-men and X-men only. Also it’s 3:30am so this might not make sense. Anyway.
There’s a few reasons I think DFP is separate from the main trilogy + the Wolverine movie universe:
In the first X-Men, Xavier says he met Erik when he was 17, and that’s not the case in First Class
Xavier lost the use of his legs as a young man in FC, but in a flashback in the original movie series, he’s an older man walking with Erik when they first meet Jean.
Moira MacTaggert is a woman in her early 30s both in FC, and is mid 30s in The Final Stand
Jubilee is in Rogue’s class in the first X-men, but then is the same age as Jean and Cyclops in Dark Phoenix
Task is in either X2 or Last Stand, as a middle age man, and then is in DFP as well as a middle age man
Jean joins the school differently
Also First Class was intended to be a reboot of the entire X-Men movie verse, until they made Days of Futures Past
Deadpool, meanwhile cannot be in either the main X-Men movie series universe, Logan, nor the Reboot series- which I will be calling the ‘prequels’- also for a few reasons:
Colossus, in both the original X-men universe, and the reboot, is an American young man, no accent. In Deadpool he has a thick accent.
According to the movie Logan, no mutant has been born since 2004. In Deadpool 2 (2018) we see mutant kids younger than 14, meaning they were born after 2004
Yukio is an adult women in The Wolverine, and a teenage girl in Deadpool
Different Jaugernauts (not talking about casting) in Last Stand as well as Deadpool 2
As for Deadpool 1&2 being a different universe from Deadpool and the Wolverine…I think that’s mostly, yes, D1&2 are a separate universe, bc that universe was the one where Vanessa is dead. However that universe sorta got deleted when he went back in time and saved her (all the other stuff like shooting various pasts him I’m ignoring bc that’s just for fun fourth wall breaking and not actual Canon Movie Stuff)
So Deadpool one and the beginning and end of Deadpool 2 are the same universe, as well as Deadpool & Wolverine.
The stuff with him traveling to different universes with Cable’s watch doesn’t make sense to me bc he’s fully going to another universe, not changing the past to *make* one. So that doesn’t make sense, and is why they’re not connected in my correct universe timeline. So I’m calling that, along with having Logan be the same universe , on the sliding scale of ‘marvel wanted an excuse to have more multiverse stuff’ to ‘talk about a Macgruffin’.

X-Men First Class Appreciation Post
Tumblr media
I own this on BluRay courtesy of thrifting. Can I just gush about this amazing piece of cinema for a moment? Does anyone still care about this movie?
So much of why this movie works is expectation and precedent. Had these characters been drawn up out of thin air for this movie, never before seen in any other medium, it still would have been amazing, but the history of how this movie came to be just pushes it over the top.
I grew up with the OG trilogy and while I know Last Stand is not good, I used to watch it if I saw it on while channel surfing. I have X2 also on dvd because I saw it while thrifting. Completely new actors, save for the Wolverine cameo, but the same old song, just a new verse. This movie will never exist in isolation, so while Erik’s arc is amazing, knowing that people who don’t read comics are seeing the main villain from the movies they know now an anti-hero with a gut-wrenching backstory, who’s right, is fantastic.
Knowing what these characters will come to be later in life as you watch it all slowly fall apart and their fundamental, philosophical divide on the nature of humanity and their place in it, is fantastic.
But beyond the history that bolsters this movie (which I think is the best X-Men movie, above DOFP and Logan), it’s just a fantastic screenplay.
The script: It’s such a tight script with only a few odd things here and there, like Emma Frost just existing after she’s served her purpose in the plot. It’s longer than I remember every time I watch it, too, kind of two movies rolled into one that splits into the second half after the CIA base attack. The setup and payoff of Erik’s “rage and serenity” moment with the dish, is the highlight. The backdrop of the 60s, weaving in real politics kind of like Forest Gump as if this all really was a shadow war going on, helped it feel more grounded than the plots of the OGs.
The characters: Obviously pulled from decades’ worth of groundwork, First Class does so, so well establishing the dichotomy of Charles and Erik, while also not leaving the rest of the team as one-note (mostly, the tornado wind dude doesn’t have a single line in the whole movie). Shaw as a villain is just hammy enough, with a ridiculously sinister comic-booky plan, it’s great.
The music: Standout here being the leitmotif for Erik, which you can hear shift as his attitude shifts from “rage” to “serenity”. The difference in the music when he’s on screen between the Villa Gessel bar scene and the sub lift. This is Erik’s movie. Charles supporting him, and everyone and everything else supporting them, and the music reflects that.
The acting: A refreshing set of faces that bring a lot of subtlety in gesture, I particularly like Charles feigning massaging his temple at the bar when he meets Moira so he can focus on her thoughts or how is attitude changes around Raven and her “cosmetic issue”. Fantastic representations, both in presence and face, of what a younger version of the OG cast might’ve been like.
The story: Yes the overarching plot of nuclear war is fun and all but the meat of the story is Erik and Charles’ relationship and their approach to mutants in human society, as it always is, and the interactions with the newer recruits. There’s plenty of quiet moments that take themselves absolutely sincerely, no half-assed awkward jokes to laugh at itself before the audience can because the writers are insecure. You know how it has to end, and this movie doesn’t for one second pretend it won’t. It never asks if they’ll end up as enemies, it spends the entire time showing you how they became enemies, which is what a prequel should do.
The climax: The last, gosh, 45 mins of this movie? Fantastic. The Americans and the Russians being played as equals but opposite, neither side being vilified because both are victims of Shaw’s plans. They’re just innocents caught in the middle (the sailors on all the boats, not the greedy higher ups). The coin, the setup and payoff and Chekhov’s gun of the goddamn coin that Erik first flicks into Shaw’s picture’s forehead at the start of the movie. Charles screaming as he still holds Shaw frozen because he feels both Shaw’s pain and the horror of what Erik’s doing. Also the choreography incorporating the various mutant powers. All of it. No notes. 10/10.
Smaller things, too. Making sure Charles and Erik have their little chess matches. The multi split-screen during the training montage and the era-appropriate music beyond the score. Dancing around the love triangle between Erik, Raven, and Charles without having it be a huge piece of the plot. Without any romance distracting from the plot, just dressing on the side. Erik being such a tired dad already around the younger mutants. The "yes we do" sonar moment. Raven still getting to use her non-combatant powers in the finale to trick Azazel. All of Michael Fassbender’s languages, rather long conversations that aren’t in English. The nods to the story at large with Charles’ hair comments, Wolverine’s cameo, cheeky origins for their hero names, the jet from the OG movies, the other significant characters popping up.
Also the balance between conflicts that do and don’t rely on powers. The final fight isn’t a fistfight and for a comic book climax, that’s kind of rare (and no blue sky beam). This is a climax that can only happen in this story. Erik doesn’t just punch Shaw into submission, he magnetizes a coin through his skull. That’s how it’s done.
I love this movie. I just watched it before making this post and I already want to watch it again.

could you drop the movie list (preferably in the order youre watching them in). asking because i really dont know anything about xmen but i want to 1) know more 2) look at logan. thankyou!
Omfg ive been watching them crazy out of order with literally no rhyme or reason💀 the actual order ive watched them in was
-xmen
- xmen origins: wolverine
- xmen - days of future past
- x2
Ive never actually seen apocalypse or dark Phoenix so those are next, maybe after i watch first class because i really like that one. Im not a huge comic fan so idk how any of the movies hold up against the comics. All i know is that comic!Logan is a short king.
For an actual movie order, chronologically:
- xmen first class (this movie actually rocks and ill die on that hill)
- og xmen trilogy
- xmen: days of future last (debatably good but i think its fun)
I dont think xmen origins wolverine is bad. Its ALSO a I Wanna Look At Logan movie, but its not exactly canon and is kind of goofy. Still. Logan in it Hot.
If you want a grittier movie, The Wolverine (not my fave tho). And if you want to Cry, but want Logan content, then Logan (2017) (also not a fave of mine but beggars, choosers. I did cry watching it the first time.)
Xmen had the misfortune of being produced during the era of superhero movies that had to be gritty and dark, so they take themselves a little bit seriously, but they can be kinda campy and fun. Logan/Wolverine is the collective Babygirl of the xmen universe and they spend so much time on him. Probably because it's genuinely devastating how hot he is. I want to bite him until my gums bleed. He's the typical broody hero you find in movies of the early aughts, but he's fun and cute so we forgive him. It's kind of annoying how forced all his romances feel, and the way his relationship with Jean is written is pretty borderline, so I like to just. Ignore alla that. The saving grace with the xmen movies is that doesn't deal with any multiverse stuff, and it was before Marvel turned to absolute shit, so i don't find the movies totally exhausting to watch.
The best movies for Looking At Logan are definitely the original trilogy. There's a scene in x2 where he's in a tanktop walking around the x mansion and his fucking arms. I'd chew on him like a country ham. Also his butt is out in days of future past and he gets some Nice 1970s styling. The Wolverine has a lot of fan service as well but again, the story aint my fave.
They are fun movies though, and i actually really like the prequel movies even though Logan only gets a cameo in one.
Also it's debatable or not whether dp3 counts as an xmen movie, but Logan is very nice to look at in it and the scene in the honda is fucking pornography

Rewatching the X-Men movies since it’s only inevitable now until they appear in the MCU and I was feeling nostalgic. But it got me thinking on what order to watch them in to even getsome sense of a timeline out of this mess. So here’s mine, plus some commentary no one asked for 😁
First Class - treat this as a normal prequel. Leads nice enough into
The OGs (X-Men, X2, Last Stand). Then
X-Men Origins:Wolverine - NO SKIPPING!! When I say all of them, I *mean* all of them.
The Wolverine
Days of Future Past
New X-Men (Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix) - tbh I count DoTF, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix as more of a trilogy than adding First Class in there. Idk might just be me…
Finish on a high with Logan.
Now, I haven’t watched New Mutants before so I don’t know where I’d fit it into the timeline yet, so I might update this later. I love these movies, even the worst ones.
I don’t know how I feel about them appearing in the MCU, it will really depend on who they have as the creative team behind it. I’m approaching with cautious optimism.
If people want to sound off on a different order they watch, please do!

X-Men Movie Tier List Update- X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Now, a lot of people will say this is the worst one, I'm here to say its not. At least compared to TLS, which still sucks. Origins is only better, but sort of slightly better.
For one thing, the fact that Logan and Victor (Sabretooth) are sort of brothers is interesting to me. Although I do prefer their first meeting be when Logan (or James at this point since it set way before the Weapon X program) meets Victor one day while wandering the forest back in like the late 1800s and deciding to stick together for a good while, before going their separate ways following an argument or something. The brother-relationship here is interesting, but they don't follow up on it at all, so it's sorta flat going into the revenge story.
The whole Weapon X conspiracy is different compared to the comics where that was more of them capturing Logan and forcing the procedure on him, while in the movie it was a huge set-up, involving faking Silverfox's death and having her be an agent in the whole thing. It reminded me of Weapon X, Lies, and Video Tapes from the 90s series, which is one of my favorite episodes.
Taylor Kitsch did a good job as Remy in this movie, good portrayal of him in this nice, brief time with him. I really liked that part where Logan and Victor were about to fight in the alleyway, Remy just approaches behind Logan still trash talking him, and Logan just back elbows him. Just hilarious. Remy just kicks it up a notch in this movie!
Stryker is alright in this movie, not leaving as much a mark as Cox did in X2, but I do like the continuity of the events of X2 in here, like with Stryker's motivations behind it being from how his son controlled his wife to kill herself. I want to say that they used Silverfox's DNA to make the mind control formula in X2, which would stay in continuity, unless it came from Stryker's son instead.
And then there's Wade. Now, I understand that this isn't his actual origin, but an origin of Wade in general. However, the whole thing is just weird. I get they were going for the genepool in going for the name Deadpool since he has a combination of mutant abilities within him. The end result is just a bit baffling. I would've preferred it if instead of Wade, it would be some version of Omega Red, but that's just me wanting to see him in a movie soon. Omega Red is seriously underrated imo.
Also young Scott is here for a short while, and its nice to see how he met Xavier while escaping the mutant testing camp from Three-Mile Island alongside other young mutants, such as Silverfox's sister, not Emma Frost.

Not a bad movie by any chance and a way better experience than TLS. I also heard the video game adaptation was good, so maybe one day I'll check that out.
Next up, I go from one prequel to another prequel, with a movie some would say is probably one of the best in the franchise: X-Men First Class.
