It's not the new year yet, but here's my annual 'Things I watched this year and my opinions' list. Normally I post this on Facebook but I thought ya Tumblr folks might enjoy it too! I also added an, out of ten, ranking, and it's broken up between anime and not anime. This is also not from a critical viewpoint and is based on how much I personally enjoyed the show/movie.
Moriarty the Patriot (10/10): If ya follow me, ya know I LOVE this series! It's one of the best things I've read/watched in a very long time, and more people need to at least watch the anime. The animation is beautiful and it's one of the most well crafted stories I have seen.
SpyxFamily (9/10): This series is purely fun! It's heartfelt, funny, and has a compelling plot! All of the characters are fun and engaging, and the animation is beautiful! (I'm 99% sure it's gonna end up breaking my heart at some point tho...)
Buddy Daddies (2/10): It was fun at first. Then I got bored. There's really not much more to say about that. It's more realistic than SpyxFamily and I feel like parents would enjoy the series, but it wasn't that compelling to me.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 (3/10): I hate rating it so low considering how much the series has impacted my life, but I haven't liked the new seasons and I haven't even started season 5. I have read the manga, so I know what happens and it just hasn't been interesting to me.
www.Wagnaria (6/10): I'm not exactly sure what the fuck that was, but it was enjoyable nonsense!
Now onto not anime, and I would put a space here but Tumblr's formatting is being a pain on my phone
M*A*S*H* (6/10): It's an oldie but a goodie! I watched it with my mom years ago and decided to rewatch the series now that I'm older and could appreciate it more. Given when it was made it has held up very well in the modern age!
The Hunger Games (7/10): I read the books years ago then forgot about them lol. I will say, at least watching the movies, I enjoy them much more now as an adult compared to when I was a teenager! Teenage me I think just couldn't grasp the nuances that make me enjoy the series now.
Trolls Band Together (10/10): I honestly hate how much I enjoyed that movie. Sure, there are glaringly obvious criticisms to be made about the movie, but it itched the part of my brain that likes sparkles, bright colors, and pop music. Plus I thought the animation was really creative and fun!

Dust Watched: WWW.Wagnaria!!
Genres: Comedy, SoL, Romance // 13 episodes // ALTs: S01 (x) | S02 (x) | S03 (x)
Oh, the regression.
✧  story  ✧
I left the original “Wagnaria!!” series with a quite nice feeling. Most of my complaints got resolved in the last season and I also inadvertently came to like the cast through the 3 seasons.
However, “WWW.Wagnaria!!” literally goes back to the very basics. This season can be watched without having seen the original series so if you want to see what the tone and jokes are like in this franchise but don’t have time for the original seasons, you can try with this but in my opinion this show is inferior to the original.
I actually considered just copy-pasting my review from Season 1 of “Wagnaria!!” because it’s the two have the exact same foundation. There are 1 or 2 jokes tied to each character and they repeat over and over and over again until the anime ends. Riveting.
I do know that I’m in the minority when it comes to “Working!!” with a lot of people finding it hilarious but I’m not in that camp.
✧  characters  ✧
Each character is basically a gag personified but this show handled its cast a lot worse than the original series. And yes, I know, there isn’t really a point to comparing one to another but they come from the same franchise so I WILL.
One: the cast is too big. I think this anime has like twice the size of “Wagnaria!!” which you’d think would benefit it considering that one character is usually tied to one joke so, more characters, more jokes, right? Well, that is the case but a lot of the characters’ presence feels meaningless and the comedic moments tied to them are so... basic. So, there’s a girl who doesn’t go to school and wears a scarf. Okay...? Then what. Oh, that’s it? Okay. (Sidenote: I do like Yanagiba but her and Nagata don’t serve much purpose).
Two: forced romance. “Wagnaria!!” had 2 real romance subplots in its entire 3 season and the relationships being treated seriously when they finally came to fruition was what made the biggest impact as the show usually can’t go 2 seconds without a gag. “WWW.Wagnaria” tries to make 3 relationships happen, most of them feeling completely unearned and unnatural.
Three: there’s no overall chemistry. Characters are kind of paired up, or in groups, and almost never interact with anyone outside of that circle. This is not only a missed opportunity (how would X character react to Y character? How do they feel about them?) but also fails at setting up a community feeling inside the restaurant. Considering how good the “found family” aspect was of the original “Wagnaria!!”, this is incredibly jarring.
Oh, right, there’s also no “straight-man” in the show which is kind of crucial to grounding comedy. I guess, Higashida could be considered one but the dude has a few screws loose as well. While in “Wagnaria!!” there were varying levels of “insane” (with Popura and Satou being the most normal), in this show EVERYONE is insane.
✧  art  ✧
The art is nice to look at and all, although I personally didn’t really like some of the transitions and backgrounds used. I like the style of the eyes but I absolutely hate whatever Shiho and Kisaki has going on with their hair.
✧  sound ✧
Pretty generic pop. It’ll get stuck in your head but you’ll forget about them in a week.
✧  overview ✧
Honestly, this is just the original “Wagnaria!!” but somehow worse. If you like repetitive and ridiculous slapstick comedy, this will probably be right up your alley though.
My Rating: 5/10

NANA MIZUKI ANNOUNCES MARRIAGE! Voice actress and singer Nana Mizuki (40) announced on her blog on Tuesday that she has gotten married to a person in the music industry.
"Now that I've reached certain milestones like my 40th birthday and my 20th anniversary of my debut as a singer, I've had more chances to reevaluate myself and consider the future. I also treasure my peaceful everyday life, and in July I reached the decision to enter my name 'Nana,' which my beloved father gave to me, on the family registry," she wrote. ("Nana" can also mean "seven" in Japanese, and July is referred to as the "seventh month.") "To everyone who has always supported me with exceptional love, even as I've made reckless blunders, I want to keep singing and making music for you with even more power. I hope you can watch over me warmly."
Nana Mizuki is a prolific singer and voice actress and her own concerts have included amazing costumes. She made her voice-acting debut in the 1997 romance simulation game NOeL. Her singles, albums, and Blu-ray Discs have topped Oricon's ranking charts. Mizuki's anime roles include Naruto's Hinata Hyūga, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha's Fate Testarossa, Minami-ke's Tōma Minami, WWW.WAGNARIA!!'s Kisaki Kondō, and Symphogear's Tsubasa Kazanari.
