hear me out: Wolfwalkers AU
(original sketch, line-art, & small infodump under the cut)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, I made another AU. It's actually an entire WIP now (as of writing this, the first draft is just over 25% finished, with a goal of 75-85k). As per the title, this is an AU based off of the Cartoon Saloon movie, Wolfwalkers.
Quick explanation for those who haven't seen it: a girl named Robin moves to Ireland with her father to hunt wolves. After sneaking out of town & meeting a girl named Mebh in the woods, she discovers that she's now a Wolfwalker—someone who magically turns into a wolf when they fall asleep.
I'd recommend watching the movie as it really is good (it's Cartoon Saloon, c'mon) but it's not necessary for WWAU, which has a similar premise—Danny Fenton finds that he is a Wolfwalker after stumbling upon an odd structure in the woods.
WWAU is, of course, set in more modern times & a more Danny Phantom inspired universe. I'm sticking close to WolfWalkers, but it is also inspired by other werewolf/shapeshifter media, so there will be some differences here & there.
The full rundown can/will be found on my other blog here. Will update info, like the title & notes, as the fic itself progresses.
This is also not to be confused with my other WWAU (werewolf AU, self explanatory) which I may or may not post depending on if I decide to continue that one. Also posting date may vary as FOtPoD takes priority over everything (FOtPoD is love, FOtPoD is life).

Runaway Renegade Ranger.
.
And I was runnin' far away
Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows, nobody knows
And I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive and I can't complain
But no, take me home
Take me home where I belong
I can't take it anymore
.
Giving me WildWest Au! Vibes, so got mini photo shoot inspired. 👌 Not close to the cloths they'd actually wear however didn't feel like spending more coins on a whole new outfit so. This is what cha' get.

FFXIVwrite2024 16. Third-Rate
Featuring: @scrollsfromarebornrealm 's WWAU Characters: Athena Hephaistos, Claudien Hepahistos, Zellita (Y'zel Tia), Hegemone Expansion: Endwalker(Context) Rating: T Summary: Zellita meets Athena for the first time, bringing up the memory of their first near encounter. Claudien says something angsty. Notes:
Tumblr media
“This little collection is hardly what I’d call a library, but I suppose it is more than I expected from this…How should I put this generously? Shanty of a town. Really Claudien, there are people for field work. I’m sure your little Hhestaro friend here knows many who would gladly survey the land for you in exchange for the right amount of pel.”
Zellita folded his ears back as the Athena ran her finger across a set of old encyclopedias then inspected it for dust. The woman seemed to think him no more than Claudien’s pet. Still, he remained silent, letting Claudien’s mother slowly walk through the shelves of Stonewood’s modest library. Her entire visit Claudien had put himself between him and his mother, almost warding her off from him.
“I enjoy my fieldwork, mother. And Zellita has used his connections and the good charity of the mayor’s wife to build connections with the libraries of distant towns and even back to Tuliyollal to obtain any book one might seek,” Claudien responded defensively.
Athena hummed. “Far be it from me to tell you how to dwindle your time and resources. You and your brother have so defiantly made your home here. I do not know why I thought my words would bear any more weight than they have in the past,” she said, adjusting her glove before making her way to the entrance. “I think I would be greeted with less warmth should I chance a visit to Erichthonius. Express my dearest affections to him for me will you? I will be busying my time here with…other matters. Who knows? I might take an invested interest. Also, you should clean up the entrance and get rid of this filthy cushion. Some mongrel seems to have made a home on the porch.”
With that, she glanced backward toward Zellita after he frigid send off. He swallowed, then furrowed his brow before wincing as he felt a memory come over him. Looking up he saw a spectral figure in the doorway, Unolohh shaking his head. His breath failing him, Zelltia collapsed to the floor.
-
Zelltia grit his teeth as he stood stiffly alongside other students of the university as they gathered around a hunk of white auracite attached to an apparatus he couldn’t quite recognize. Those around him seemed to be nonplussed by the rare stone, most likely the ones that had helped Professor Athena Hephaistos retrieve it from sacred lands to bring back for her work.
They’re all complicit. They should share Unolloh’s fate.
The thought echoed in his mind, intrusively, and he did his best to shake it off. He’d no proof they were there at the digsite, let alone any of them pulled the trigger on his beloved. He clenched his jaw tighter trying to seem inconspicuous among the students, having donned some fine clothes as a disguise to enter the university and join the lab. Wandering in, a red-headed woman moved to the front of the lab then scanned the crowd of them.
“Great, it’s Hegemone,” one of the students grumbled.
The woman narrowed her eyes at the student, getting instant silence from him before gesturing to the auracite. “The Professor cannot make it today. She’s busy elsewhere. Today we will resume her work by seeing if we can use this piece of auracite to devise a means of finding a rich vein of it elsewhere.”
She seems to be second in command. Would the Professor even get her hands dirty? It was probably this woman.
Zellita winced, grabbing his forehead for a moment before shaking the stray thought away and raising his hand.
“Yes…Mr…,” Hegemone started, raising her brow at the unfamiliar face.
“Almahh. I am just wondering why we would go find more? Can you not feel the Weave from all around being filtered through it? Surely this is enough.”
Hegemone crossed her arms, “Almahh, is it? Well, as you should know, we are scientists and while we are all here to learn from our dear professor, she is but one of many interested in the auracite. The more we have, the more research can be done.”
Haughty girl. More research, but at the cost of how many more lives?
“Right, but should we not head the Hhestaro whose sacred lands we have to traverse to obtain it. Many tribes say that the stones must be left untouched and that only ruin will fall on those who covet it. Of course we are here to learn more about the natural world around us; however, is there not a limit to the price we enact in obtaining that knowledge? Are there not things that should remain sacred?”
The class laughed as he made his impassioned speech, one he had heard Unolohh give many times for those who wandered into Hhestaro lands in pursuit of taking more than their share of Tural’s natural bounty. Some had listened, many more did not to various success. Some were laid low for their greed…and it had caught up with Unolohh.
They’re laughing at you. They would see Tural sucked dry and the Hhestaro all but a memory. Do it NOW.
Zelltia felt a heat in his hand as the Weave concentrated in his palm, threatening to ignite. Swallowing, he found himself staring at the auracite before up at Hegemone as she shook her head. “Listen Almahh. If you’re looking to become a philosopher, you’re in the wrong department. This is not a place to worry about the ethical implications of what we’re doing. We’re about: Cold. Hard. Facts,” she announced. “Now, for those of us who read the course description and understand why we’re here, begin working with the Weave to determine the sacred geometry that best draws the aether in and from there, attempt reversal patterns. Almahh, a word in the hall.”
She’s on to you. Burn it all to ashes! Avenge him!
Zelltia jumped as Hegemone’s hand came down on his shoulder, the woman gently leading him outside the lab door. She exhaled then looked him in the eyes, offering the best smile she could muster. “Look, you’re obviously just starting out. This is a very rough discipline to get behind. You have to turn the little voice off in your head sometimes and just do your work to get through and let someone else worry about the rest. I’ve seen many of your kind come through here and be eaten alive by the professors. Get through today, but then go home and think about what it is you actually want and maybe talk to someone about it so they can get you on the right career path. You certainly can’t question Professor Lahabrea like that or she’d have just ignored you and then asked why you were still there if she happened to perceive you again after.”
Zelltia gave a small nod, surprised at the sudden change in tone. He swallowed, a twinge of guilt hitting him over the intrusive thoughts. Recoiling, he held himself and gave a small nod eyeing the keys on her belt. “Very well, I will take your advice,” he said, carefully retrieving her keys from her waist, dropping his things so that she’d bend with him to pick it up and not mind the noise. “Sorry, thank you. You know, you’re right. This isn’t for me….Thank you Hegemone.”
With that, he scooped up his things and rushed off, pocketing the keys discreetly in his jacket as he looked for somewhere to lay low. Finding a closet, he slipped inside then hunkered down, breathing erratically from nearly having his cover blown, and perhaps the impulsiveness to just bring everyone who had hurt him and his family to justice. Calming himself, he settled in, closing his eyes and hoping the exhaustion would let him sleep peacefully for once.
It didn’t. The nightmares were ever present. The sound of gunfire. The metallic scent of Unolloh’s blood and the warmth of it in his arms as he held the other. And Unolloh’s voice, softly saying how much he loved him and to watch over his nephew before becoming overwhelmed by the Weave rushing through every bit of his body. This startled him awake.
Quietly, Zellita checked his pocket-chronometer, finding it approaching the first bell of the night, well past the time anyone should be there. Zellita carefully pushed the door open, looking out into the dark hallway before retracing his steps back to the lab. Taking his stolen keys, he went through them until it unlocked. Hurrying inside, he looked for the auracite and once found he took it then paused.
Destroy it all. Ruin all of her work so that Unolloh’s will be done.
Zellita let out a breath as he held the stone, feeling the dense Weave from it pulse through him. Once more he felt the heat of fire in his hand, and raising it he shot forth a flame that consumed the latter half of the room in an intense inferno. Fire wards sounded immediately after, water soon sprinkling down from the corners of the lab, but with the auracite fueling his magic, he tore through the Weave holding them together and let the fire spread.
With a pant, he backed away, feeling the heat start to get to him as the room roared with flame. Turning, he started to flee as more sigils began to go off through the halls, the next room starting to catch as well as the one above it. Fleeing the building, he ran as fast as he could before stopping cold.
They’ll never stop coming. They’ll eradicate every last Hhestaro. Every good person from here to Shaaloni who would stand in their way. With the power of the auracite, it could all go away. It would be years before they put their sights on Xak Tural again and it would only be invaders from the east to contend with…and with this little stone here, what chance would they stand. It is the Ultimate defense. Use it Zellita, become the Weave’s perfect vessel and protector-
Zellita let out a small gasp then dropped the auracite, staring at it a moment as he felt his own senses return to him. He stared at it, thinking it was less sacred than thought, but that his people had the right of it when they declared its deposits forbidden lands. Picking it back up, he ran toward the Skygate the commotion of the fire drawing the attention of many of the Landsgaurd. Passing through, he hurried along then halfway took the stone and chucked it as hard as he could into the Stardust Sea.
-
“Zellita…Please wake up,” Claudien’s voice pleaded.
Zellita stirred from the dream of his memory, finding himself held by Claudien. He opened his eyes, looking up at his lover as he stroked his braid back from his face. “I am alright. It was just nerves,” he lied, unsure what had caused the spell. “I wasn’t expecting to meet your mother today.”
“Let it be the first and last meeting you have with her,” Claudien said, pulling Zellita close, “If I am a monster for what I’ve become unwitting, she is something far worse. The Lahabrea’s family closet is more akin to a mausoleum. Promise me you won’t confront her. Not on your own.”
“I have no intention of-”
“No. You must promise. I know you. If you find her a threat you will devise a means to try to expel her from the town whether it be whispering in the right ears or stirring trouble with the Daybreakers or Night Pride. Or worse confront her yourself.  Whatever you think you can do, she will sense coming or be so ambivalent to it’ll just roll right off of her. Please, promise me you’ll leave her be to do her business until she grows bored and moves on,” Claudien pleaded.
“Claudien. I-,” Zelltia started, concerned by the other’s sudden panicked expression. There was always an air of fear about him given his condition, but there had always been something in him that he knew he would ultimately be okay. Now, there was only raw fear. “I promise. I will do my level best to avoid her.”
“Good. I must go to my brother and his wife. I want to see if I can warn them in advance. I should find my niece too,” Clauiden said, standing while putting Zellita on his feet. He moved to get his jacket, putting it on as he headed toward the door, leaving the other to brush himself off and then quietly look around the library. Hesitating, he turned back to wrap his arms around Zellita, kissing the side of his neck left unblemished by his feeding. “When I return, I shall not leave your side until the next morning. For now, just stay here and wait.”
“I will. Hurry back. Give my love to Toni and Idunn,” Zellita said, feeling Claudien reluctantly part from him and slip out the door. Quietly, he turned then followed, looking out into the streets of Stonewood who otherwise seemed steep in another unrelenting sunny day, unaware of the shadow cast upon it by the ambitions of its newest visitor.

Rhoeslane
Rhoeslane is a hidden wizarding community in Leeds, Yorkshire. To get to this community, wizards have to enter an old building that is found in a cul-de-sac, the door will only be seen by those with magic, in a similar fashion to the Leaky Cauldron in London. Rhoeslane is home to some of the most important families in the wizarding community, being the ancestral home for the Black and Longbottom families, plus having several smaller cottages and a strong commercial street and industrial district.
Along the riverside there are multiple factories that produce most of the already made potions in the country, pertaining to companies such as Linferell or E.M.L. Potions Co., and clothing factories that prepare our favourite fabrics into work-able materials for the countries clothing-makers.
Black Manor is the seat of the Black family, where only the Head of the Family lived, with those he chose. It’s a big white stone building with a large garden with multiple types of flowers and fruit trees and black raven-themed gates all around it.
Longbottom Manor is the seat of the Longbottom family, traditionally the Head of the Family and the direct descendants live. It’s a red stone building with four floors and two more underground, even though it looks like four houses put one next to the other. There are stables and a lake on the grounds and its enclosed by hedges.
Nightshade Cottage is the house from where the Gamp family experiments and studies and furthers the knowledge of magic, particularly transfiguration. Is a three storey brick house with multiple chimneys; the first floor has a kitchen, a dinning area and 3 bedrooms with multiple beds for the students and workers who decide to spend the night; the second floor has two classrooms, a library, the Director’s office, and the Caretaker’s suite; lastly, the third floor is an open space for experimenting, with multiple tables, chairs and blackboards.
Astrely Garden is a botanical garden and herbology research center.
Evergreen Academy of Wizardry is a small school for those who cannot attend Hogwarts (because of monetary, health, family or other reasons) and live near Rhoeslane. It’s divided in three Houses: Amphipteres, Wyverns and Wryms. Students usually only stay over the weekdays, some having to commute everyday via the Knight Bus.
