Khan isn't exactly an expert when it comes to healthy sleep patterns. In fact, he hasn't had a good night's sleep in well over a decade by now, perhaps even longer than that.

And since unconsciousness does not equal sleep - it simply does not provide a healthy amount of rest to a struggling body - he excludes those times where he's been knocked out cold from his calculations.

The man in front of him - John Watson, as Khan has gotten to know by now - is a doctor, apparently. Working at Sickbay, treating patiens, doing research, whatever a doctor does nowadays. He's surely aware of what sleep deprivation can do to a body, especially a human one.

"That's unfortunate.", is what Khan says after a little while, watching the other with his bright stare while remaining seated on the cot - his back straight as usual, posture immaculate, lower arms resting on his own thighs. Patient, not in a hurry.

"---Especially since you're a doctor. You must be working a lot."

Though   he   had   been   keeping   his   discomfort   locked   down,   the   hiss   that   followed   after   John   pierced   his   skin   with   the   needle   in   order   to   stitch   up   a   wound   on   his   back   was   not   something   that   Sherlock   could   bite   down.   “For   crying   out   loud,   John,   I   know   you’re   upset   with   me,   but   perhaps   you   should   save   your   current   animosity   for   anything   other   than   injuring   me   further?   It   feels   like   you’re   trying   to   stab   me,   just   like   our   killer   did.”   

Admittedly,   he   wasn’t   in   the   best   mood   either.   Then   again,   why   should   he   be,   considering   the   criminal   escaped,   and   they   had   no   further   leads   left.   Though   Sherlock   suspects   that   John’s   ire   had   to   do   more   with   his   reckless   behavior,   rather   than   a   dead   end   on   their   case.

                   ❛            you are .. absolutely ridiculous , you do realize that ?            ❜                    stress had begun to make my voice sound a pitch or two higher than normal , a bead of sweat rolling down my temple as i leaned away from john , hand outstretched regardless , attempting to help him back to his feet. what human ran head first into danger ? where was the engrained sense of self preservation every creature was supposed to have ? any normal person would run away from a possible bomb threat , but no , not john watson , apparently. no , he simply had to go toward the car bomb to make sure it was empty , despite me already swearing that it was when i'd glanced at it.

now , the car had blown , fire crackling at the blistered red paint as the residual noise made my ears ring , crouching beside where john was struggling to get to his feet , a hard line settling my sour features.                    ❛            john , i know you're a doctor , but you can't very well check all of your own injuries ; let me take you to the hospital.            ❜                    there wasn't exactly room in my tone for him to argue , one of my palms sweeping across the back of john's torso when he wasn't paying attention. he had a cracked rib. it was minor , just a hairline fracture , but i hated the idea of it being there. a quick , casual snap of my fingers & the bone healed with a sharp jolt , one that could easily be played off as a muscle spasm , concern etching itself 'pon my features as i watched john's expression carefully.

                   ❛            just .. deep breaths until the ambulance comes. i'd drive you myself , but i'm afraid i don't have a car.            ❜                    or a valid license , rather , but he didn't need to know that.

Did he have eyes on John? Of course, he did! Receiving a text from Sebastian about the facial expressions he could see on John Watson’s face through a sniper scope was amusing to him, not quite as good as if he had been there in person but amusing nonetheless. Sending a message to Bastian to send a surprise through the window of Baker Street after the meeting had finished, he knew he was going to have some real fun. What would be fired through the window? Nothing too drastic, not yet anyway. A smile card with the date and time of the meeting and a ‘thank you for coming’ message with a smiley face scrawled next to it. Hearing the sound of the door open he whistled, ordering his employee to search Watson for any weapons, as fun as it would be, it wasn't something that couldn't be had at a meeting, the man had standards after all.

With this internal monologue making the whole situation more amusing than it already was he looked up at the doctor and gave him a friendly smile, or at least what could be seen as friendly as long as you avoided his emotionless eyes. “You came, so so easily. Last time I had to drag you out, perhaps next time I need a hostage I'll simply invite you over, and we can have tea and cake before the main event, wouldn't that be nice” he said, not wanting to know the doctor’s or opinion or even caring. “I am not sure if you are brave or stupid for coming here, especially with leaving your things behind, not even Sherlock will be able to save you now. Never mind, I'll take care of you for now. Tea?” he asked, gesturing to the tea set on the table with a small nod of his head.

100% ripping off the ask about your ocs in DOGSTAR (which i'm enjoying a LOT rn), but i loved how detailed you got in that answer, and i'd also love to hear about how you came up with the ocs in your generation kill fics (al, clem, tanya, judy, the inimitable tulip) and how you shaped the roles they take up in each of the canon characters' lives. i'm also realizing that those are a lot of ocs to talk about and i'm more than happy if you only want to pick one or some!

Also that’s a really interesting question (for me lol) because a lot of those guys came to me as if in a fever dream so who knows!! I’ll try and think through it here.

So first, I’ll say that Tanya and Judy are maybe the irl names of Wynn’s kids? But now that I’m thinking on it, I have literally no idea where I got that information from, so maybe it’s just one of those popular fanon things? I’m not sure. But yeah, I like kid characters, interacting with them is a really simple way to show a characters tenderness or patience or lack there of, plus they tend to wear their emotions on their sleeves and I like playing around with that.

Same thing with Tulip (Soph) I was just so excited to write dad!Walt the rest kind of fell into place around her. That was my first GK fic and I wrote it in like a couple days while in college and I had a friend/hall mate then who had a little sister who was maybe three at the time. She was crazy smart for her age and I’m sure some of her bled over into Sophia naturally. I don’t think I have the document for it anymore, but once upon a time there was a half-finished sequel to that fic that was mostly about Ray and Walt co-parenting Sophia through pre K, and Ray having self-doubt about being her father. It was fun but I have no idea what happened to it!

Al, my beloved! I just love the idea of Brad being a little brother. Like, he’s competent and smart and capable of some crazy shit, but then he goes home and it’s like. Baby. You’re the baby now, get used to it loser. (As the baby myself, this happens a lot and it’s equally flattering and frustrating). I originally wrote her into a WIP that will probably never see the light of day, and I knew I wanted her in WTSN/DWDY so I just stole her from one fic and put her in another! She’s able to read Brad for filth, she knows him too well, it’s basically a liability for Brad at this point lol. I just think he deserves someone who will never ever ever buy his bullshit. And still loves him so much.

OKAY. I don’t mean to have favorites. BUT I have favorites. The ocs in God Is a Bluegill are so dear to me, I can’t help it. Pleasant, Clementine, and Goody are sooooo !!! So, I don’t want to go into too much detail about Clementine and Goody because spoilers, honestly, but Goody is a war vet and pretty fucked up from it. He was at the Battle of Shiloh (which you can look into if you like, but all to say, it was nasty and some crazy shit happened afterward) and he meant to go home and find his family after the war was over, but he didn’t. He felt too changed and he just sort of picked up his life and moved around for a while before settling (rather recently) in Lebanon. So, he carries a lot of guilt. He changes a LOT during this story, so. That’s all I’ll say for now.

Clementine was inspired by… I can’t remember her name, but she’s the lady who hires the magnificent seven in the remake with Chris Pratt? That film was the original catalyst for this story but it has since grown into its own thing, if you couldn’t tell lol. (Also pls don’t judge, I didn’t know how fuckin weird Chris Pratt was back then, but Ethan Hawke was so good in that film I still like it!!😭) Clementine is a kid who had to grow up too fast and there is no adult/parent figure for her to cling onto. And she’s not gonna get one. She’s a woman (girl) (she’s only 19 goddamn it) who is gonna be her own hero if it kills her. Ray’s heart is too big and he cares for her entirely too much already, he feels bad for her! He pretends to be all hard (and he kinda is in this fic ngl) but he just sees this kid who’s lost and he wants to help her. I think he sees himself in her, bc he also had to grow up too fast, had to fend for himself more-or-less from like 15 on.

Pleasant is Ray’s savior. Like, in a world where he doesn’t have Brad at his side constantly (yet) she is his opposite in a way the completely rounds him out. And every time since they’ve met, every time Ray has gotten himself into trouble, she’s either gone right in after him or rescued him entirely. She’s often the voice of reason and she can read him like a fucking book. Like in chapter 1, the second she saw him looking at Walt she knew the boy was gone. Conversely, she has to navigate a world that is incredibly hostile toward her and Ray is determined to kick in any doors that are shut in her face. She can take care of herself, she’s arguably as strong or stronger than Ray, but there are some things that are just not gonna come to her as a black woman after the civil war. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I view them as inseparable siblings, would die for each other.

you're so hot. sorry about the horrors. you're the kind of person people immediately notice. whether you have a distinct style, are more outgoing, or are just plain beautiful, you make an impression. people usually feel the need to protect you, which probably frustrates you to no end. you're not weak! you're not fragile! you're not helpless! but the people in your life tend to disagree. maybe it's your lover, the protagonist, trying to keep you out of their own turmoil. maybe it's someone responsible for you in some way, keeping you away from your lover, while they head down an increasingly dark path. regardless, all you really want is a sense of autonomy! unfortunately, you're very likely to die before that happens. the audience will be so caught up in the grief your death causes the protagonist that they forget to grieve you as a person. you deserved better, but unfortunately this is not your story. maybe it should have been.

well i may not be your one of your old mutuals but i've been following you long enough to want to pick your brain about gk! do you have any headcanons or favorite scenes?

Hi! I’m so sorry for taking forever to respond, but this is a really sweet ask, thank you for sending it!

Most of my headcanons are pretty fluid. Like, I have multiple ships I like to play with so I have lots of little ideas that contradict each other. I love the “is clearly in love but doesn’t know it yet” so in most of my writings, Ray figures out his feelings before Brad, but Brad figures it out before Nate.

Or the wonderful “they’re both in love but think the other wouldn’t fall for them.” That one is usually a BradNate concoction.

Brad and Ray are bi, Nate is gay (most of the time, again these are fluid) when I write Doc Bryan he’s usually averse to labels but will have sex with whoever he likes.

I have an OC for Brad’s sister, her name is Alison and she’s a couple years older, she’s in WTSN/DWDY and in a few unpublished works. She’s very small but Brad is the baby. I’ve also written Nate with sisters a few times, but they change lol.

Okay so, in the series, everything is my favorite. Every episode is chock-full of amazing moments and dialogue. I even outlined a comic one time for Poke’s Tastee-Freez monologue.

Nate’s “for what?” bit comes to mind. As does ��I’m putting it down, gunny” and the scene where he tries to correct schwetje’s air strike. Also, I’m in love with every single one of Ray’s monologues, not to be basic.

I’ve been turning around the moment in ep seven where Ray silently hands Brad a cup of water/coffee for like, a decade. How much can I read into a nonverbal gesture? Everything.
