On 16th June 2022, WTF1 asked Sebastian Vettel some fan questions posted on social media. One of the questions they started off with was: “Do you prefer racing or ping pong?” This leads to Matt Gallagher asking Seb where he got the phrase from. Confusion and hilarity ensue.

Sebtember Challenge #4: The Origin of the Victory Finger

According to Sebastian during an interview conducted by WTF1 in 2017, his habit for showing off his right finger every time he’d win a race came about when he finished in 1st place in Monza at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix. This statistic meant the world to him and he was so happy he lifted his finger up proudly.

The finger represented him winning 1st place in the race. It had nothing to do with the fact Seb injured his finger when he was racing in Formula Renault 3.5. Just in case you were wondering! 🙂

And as we all know, this little gesture has since become one of Seb’s best known trademarks in the sport. 👆🏻

the pitstop boys (podcast clowns, not the euro rave uncles responsible for super max) very much have sports media connections. the entire premise of their podcast is that they don't know shit about F1 which would be, you know, neat if they were opening doors for other new fans but instead they're making bank off performative ignorance.

reasons everyone is so riled with them:

1. telling drivers you don't give a shit about racing is bad enough; telling Juan Manuel Correa (the other driver involved in the 2019 Spa crash; broke both legs and spent two weeks in an induced coma) you don't know who he is and you don't give a shit about racing is a spectacular dick move

2. implying new (female) fans only care about hot drivers like babe I have the capacity to do both and also fuck you!

3. flat stating they wanted to make a football podcast and not this one - okay then, go do that & stop taking up space?

tl;dr they're entitled assholes shilling mediocre content and f1twt is eating them alive

"haters make me famous" they may be putting out subpar content, but people are talking about it, no? free publicity
