This year I decided there’d be no frills to my #WSPOstTracks list but rather I’ll put them up in the order the shows aired. And if I’m feeling up to it, I’ll also add my favorite line or lyric/s from the song (cause you know how much I love words!). Honestly I’m quite glad I get to kick off the month and this list, with this song because it is a track I’ve literally listened to nonstop all year long. If I had to pick an OST that showcased the most of my favorite voices it would #RuleroftheMask. For not only did #HwangChiYeol grace us with his presence but there was #Hwanhee, #Suran AND #KWill! So choosing between these tracks was virtually impossible for me. I usually end up powering through at least one family drama every couple years but #FatherisStrange wasn’t truly on my radar until I saw a random clip of a couple #LeeJoon and #JungSoMin scenes (before the love stuff) that piqued my interest. In the last third of its airing that couple, their struggle, narrative arc and this track, ruled that show. And while there were plenty of other poignant and relatable elements within the drama, their story is what drew me in and truly some of the best work throughout the entire show. Joonie owned that role and rocked it and this Noona is so very, very proud of him! This song is for you kid! This makes the list not because I actually like it or even listen to it (#sorrynotsorry😏) but because it gave me a hearty chuckle and Sang Mi’s expression is the mirror of mine, when it played in the show. Pfft. I mean, there’s sleigh bells and tons of sampling 🤣🤣🤨... However, I do believe it works well for the character it sets to “depict” and I actually felt sorry for him for like 3 secs because of it. The track is also a clever insertion because if Kpop boy bands can find there way onto OSTs why not boy bands from around the world, right? I honestly believe more and more English tracks will creep their way onto official releases and depending on the choice, I won’t be mad at all. #StrongWomanDoBongsoon was an adorable, sugary delight whose OST initially won me over with #JeongEunji’s My Garden but in the midnight hour inserted #Vromance’s collaboration with #OBroject and used it so very well, it became and instant favorite for this show. Ninety percent of the #MissingNine OST is instrumental and I absolutely love it. For unfortunately this year, vocals haven’t been my favorite aspect of music. #Kenzie & #NileLee are wonderful and did great musical direction in these pieces solely because the majority of the album would have you believe these 9 people went on a tropical vacation, rather than being stranded, starving, solving murders and seeking out killers. The entire set of tracks for OCN’s #보이스 is fairly easy listening but I felt this track was a wonderful reflection of the show’s crisp and chilling melancholic tone. I had been waiting and waiting what seems like forever for a heart-wrenching love story (@ekunlj can attest to this) and then #SevenDayQueen premiered. And delightfully, it was exactly the beautiful, bittersweet, tragic love story I had been looking for that almost makes up for how long it took to enter my life. For me, it was darn near perfect with a compelling childhood connection that transitioned seamlessly to adulthood not just narratively but in acting portrayals. #LeeDonggun had a stellar year and was phenomenal in this role along with the always wonderful #YeonWoojin. #ParkMinyoung isnt a consistent actor but she won my heart as the lovable Chaeyoung. Who actually became one of the reasons female leads didn’t stay in the gutter for me in 2017. The story surrounded this trio and they sold every moment. A show like this one is chalk full of the kind of tracks I love and this one by #DearCloud was perfect for our lovers, basically telling their story with every line, determined to never leaving my eyes dry each time it plays. A summer show that I’m positive is much better in marathon. But for #JiChangwook’s first foray in to rom-com I was very pleased because he was rewarded with a great character and an excellent partner. It was also the first time I actually just plain liked him in a role. Having RA.D, Jongwan and Bumkey on this OST was also pretty wonderful as well.
