‘What is crime and what are the challenges in defining crime?’
Crime, at its core, is a societal construct designed to assign consequences to actions or in-actions that go against the values expressed within social groups for the intent of breeding the ideal sense of obedience or normalcy of accepted behaviour within the  group. As a societal concept, crime was conceived by humans rather than nature itself, though “laws” can be observed in scientific fields (e.g pertaining to gravity), and as such how it is able to be defined depends entirely on the human defining the term. The positionality of the individual tends to lean their exposition of the term and use of the term ‘crime’ as to whether it is a matter of politics, law, or morality – all of which, too, are social constructs. Defining crime within the bounds of politics, law, and morality acts as a limit to truly understanding or researching crime in the field of criminology beyond as an area of complex social manoeuvring that exists to organise what is and is not considered to be morally acceptable, and does not exist as its own concept but rather as a branch of sociology and social behaviours.
Anyone can create a rule within a social field whether that field is made of a million people or just one. As such, a rule (or a law) can be given to the one writing this piece to not use the letter ‘s.’ The letter ‘s’ was used before, but was not considered a crime then, but once that crime is stated to be in action – the letter ‘s’ now cannot be injected into the remainder of paragraph two – any individual who would embed the banned letter would be in a place to earn a penalty for breaching the law/rule given to them. Naturally, it would be  difficult to entirely apply the ban of the aforementioned letter to the full extent of a law branded into a broader group of people to the extent of another individual calling it “true crime” however, it would remain a law in that it be written and obeyed, and if the writer broke the rule they would face the penalty of failing to follow their argument that “anyone can create a rule” and, hence, anyone can create a crime, follow a crime, and carry out a penalty in the event that the rule be breached.
In this paragraph, another field, the aforementioned law against the letter ‘s’ is irrelevant because the letter ‘s’ is regarded as an ordinary letter. It can be discussed freely in this space and theories such as Classicism can be discussed more plainly. The second paragraph is a law that would have to be broken consciously as per the classicist interpretation of how crimes are committed; where the individual knowingly commits the inaction of not following the rule. Of course, there is a major flaw in classicism that comes with the issue of the major influences having a limited scope; who knows what the laws are? If someone was asked to continue the second paragraph without being told what the single banned latter was, they would have to guess which letter is banned. It could be ‘s’ or ‘q’ or ‘z.’ The lack of access to awareness of laws creates a significant increase in laws being broken by outsiders, for example the traditional laws  followed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait islanders. The University of Melbourne’s home sits on the land of the Kulin nation where there is a seasonal welcome and set of rules as to who does what and where that most people on campus do not follow either consciously, because they do not feel it is necessary, or unconsciously because they are unaware of the rules. If crime can only be conscious, then the classicist’s critiques of the status quo and belief that crime is committed on the basis of intentional act is questionable in relation to defining what crime actually is.
For better or worse, much of what one believes is “crime” is largely dependent on what an individual believes holds the most power. If one believes that a church has the most power, then they will perceive crime as per the religion the church stands for. For example, “to commit a sin” is the Christian equivalent of committing a crime against the law. The first commandment (biblical) is; ‘[...] you shall not have strange Gods before [God]’ or, simply, one cannot believe in a God that is not the God. This is not a law in current society, but there was a time where believing in another deity was worth a death sentence. It is comparable to stealing bread – the individual has sinned against the law that bread ought not to be stolen in favour of their belief; the bread ought to be stolen. In this arrangement, the classicist view is correct in that the ‘crime’ was intentional. Furthermore, biological positivism comes into question. Are individuals born to follow a religion? Did the bread-thief steal bread because their nose is slightly hooked? One is a question of fate, the other is usually a question of racism and/or classism. Though, often religion, racism, and classism go hand in hand in determining what is and what is not appropriate. Who is the slave and who is the master - who breaks the law, who makes the law. In most religions observed today, there is a clash between the law of the state and the laws of the belief. Actions, inactions, hearsay. Thought crime, moral crime, legal crime; all mismatched together. Is there a preference for an afterlife of eternal suffering or a lifetime of jail?
In the current day, the most potent source of influence is the media. Social media which quickly peddles out controversies, the mastermind behind cancel culture – “this is how you should feel” and “this is how we feel” is the connective tissue that allows online social muscles to flex and bend the social paradigm. What is and is not normal depends on what posts one likes and which hashtags, creators, and trends they follow. New countries of people are formed even if they are not on the same land with their own laws and punishments. Territory battles between who can use what song, who can do what dance; two content creators from different sides of the internet make a video together and it is the next political agreement that shifts the course of the two e-countries' futures forever! Social media is backed largely by traditional media like newspapers, radio channels, or live shows with the subtle yet immeasurable difference in the ability for audiences to reproduce content and respond to comments. It is shaped by art, by books, by genres of music that have a history of influencing political views. Every individual is entitled to choose who and what they interact with, and which rules they follow – unless their country has specific laws that prevent certain topics or expressions in which laws are not just rules but rather physical barriers to access. Not just paper – solid, near-impenetrable walls.
There are not many things that everyone has the exact same view on. Similar to asking someone “what is the meaning of life?” asking “what is crime” is bound to set off discussions until someone says “it depends on who you ask.” There is no simple answer; once someone chooses;
For the meaning of life:
The meaning of life is to reproduce.
The meaning of life is to have fun.
The meaning of life is nothing.
The meaning of life is to die at the end of it.
Or
Crime is an action or inaction against the law.
Crime is an action or inaction that causes harm.
Crime is a behaviour that goes against what is socially acceptable/normal.
Crime is a social construct that means nothing to non-humans.
They are subject to defend their claim. A passionate individual may win the argument easily. They choose something that cannot be proven as there is no evidence, even if someone may believe there is. Someone may believe the purpose of life is to die at the end of it, but if they were having the discussion with a devout Buddhist who believes in rebirth, or a pagan who believes in Elysium then it must be debated on what “death” is. Similarly, a discussion between someone who believes in crime purely per laws created by legal, governing powers may struggle against someone who argues that a crime is a behaviour against what is normal or acceptable. Murder was not always a crime and, in some places today, still isn’t. To someone who believes entirely that crime is what goes against legislation, in an area where murder is legal, they therefore believe that murder is not a crime in that place. This disregards the agency of who knew the victim and their ability to respond to the behaviour that goes against what they believe is fair or “good.” From the other perspective, crime is not only behaviour that goes against what is societally expected or encouraged, so as long as it is acknowledged by one arguing that it is only behaviour or only on the basis of what a society believes, the argument is derailed. Hence, the major barrier to defining crime is positionality, where the individual stands. It is easy enough for one to say “everyone believes [x]” but whether or not it is true will forever be debatable unless the group is small enough, and if the group is small enough that they all agree on what crime is, then theoretically there would be no one to commit a crime against those rules – they all agreed, thus, there is no need for deviance.
Crime is a concept, criminology studies it. What it actually is? Who can really define it? When was the term coined? Probably the French in the 1800s, but laws existed before then and people were definitely breaking them. They also didn’t just exist in France, let alone Europe. Crime is and always was committed everywhere, all it takes is one person with enough status to say “that was a crime!”

Why study in the academy?
Depending on where you lie, the internet is a source of learning, for that read this article. One can seek out classes for discussion and research on various topics as long as they are not too tiresome. It is also one of the places from which students can sharpen their linguistics.
There are additional benefits when a student commences studies. Some universities offer postgraduate programs that link learners to the workforce. There is a mandatory test, called a baccalaureate, that takes a toll on the learner. If the examiner goes through all the papers, he or she will get a good grade, and thus, becomes a valuable resource for the institution.
Benefits of Studying in the University of British Columbia
Here are some of the conveniences that young people encounter while pursuing a course in the city.
Occurring Conventions
The regular meetings of commerce and science meet regularly. At its core, lectures teach from new sets of ideas to build up the current knowledge. You have to find a creative angle to tackle the problem being discussed. The discourse may be technical, scientific, or have even metaphorical.
Berkeley phd english lessons are advised by tutors
If you are seeking a permanent position in the school, it is advisable to bring in a young scholar to help sort things in the library. They are knowledgeable, have prior studied under eminent personalities such as John Bull and Harold Ronson, and have written hundreds of academic pieces.
Freelance Writing
It is not known how to write academically. However, freelance writers are available to look for jobs and continue working part-time to earn extra cash. A blog has been set up to cater to the needs of students looking for employment and offers writing services, like essay writer service cheap to clients. The skills learned will enable the writer to make a fast delivery without compromising on quality.
What to Know About Vancouver
Apart from the obvious advantages, there are other objectives that the job seekers should pay attention to.
Diversity
Many employers and recruiters are Assessed. The personal statement is an important document whose sole purpose is to tell the employer what they need to think of and to prove that the candidate fits the role. Employers use the power of hiring unbiased individuals to understand the facts.

who wants to see bruce being bullied? doesn't matter, here you go
...
“—per my last missive, Sir: if you want this equation to exist, then the principles of linear algebra must necessarily exist.” Korvin waves a thin stack of ruled paper—covered with sprawling formulas, symbols, bullet lists, and patchwork paragraphs on both sides—like he’s trying to banish a demon. That demon, in this instance, is “Batman being stubborn.”
Bruce looks taken aback, like something is happening outside of his set parameters. From how Dick tried to explain it: apparently, Bruce and Korvin have a whole “pen pals” routine going on, and it’s still thriving despite them sharing the same living quarters for the past few months?
Do they actually waste stamps on this? Where do they hide the envelopes?
(Dick raised his hands in surrender at that line of questioning.)
Tim knows Bruce is a creature of habit and standards of operation—of which he completely respects because it’s efficient—but his staunch adherence to routine is next-level neurotic. Normally, he'd be furious about being sidetracked.
Yet, Korvin’s thrown caution to the wind and got so mad over math, like the fussy nerd that he tries to hide being, that he’s directly confronting Bruce—full “David vs Goliath” vibes here. And he's winning.
“I trust your work,” Bruce finally says, holding his hand out for the papers.
That only makes Korvin’s face twitch harder. “Sure. Why not. Everyone needs a bit of make-believe. Escapism in these trying times and shitass economy.”
“‘Shitass economy,’” Cass murmurs, of course latching onto the bit that everyone reacts to.
Babs sighs in disgust.

Have to write a 2-4 page essay on hinduism. It’s due on friday. I am genuinely interested in the topic now, but it’s so vast, my mind can’t comprehend half of it and I did my research in English, while I need to submit it in Czech and now I’m realizing I can’t write in my own first language (skill issue, ik). I want to actually understand and actually do this topic justice, but I just keep falling into random rabbit holes knowing I’m not even scratching the surface and the even more interesting stuff is there, I just don’t have the time to find it.

so i work in a well-known library, right, as a part-timer, and it's been great working with the books, they're real friendly and everything. but this is a very exclusive library, right, you have to send in an application and maybe get interviewed to get in because we're dealing with really old archival material here; i've had to dust crumbled paper off of desks and some of the spines of these hundreds-of-years-old books have been replaced with electric tape with their titles rewritten with wite-out from how much the spines have fallen out. i look up and see dead white men glaring down at me from murals and paintings and busts from the ceiling, probably aghast and wondering how a fucking little island girl is handing their precious books and poking at their dutch-painted glass windows with her grimy brown fingers. this is just set-dressing, so you really know where i'm coming from.
anyways, you know those memes that go around writing communities? doesn't matter if you write fics or manuscripts, we've all seen them, liked them, reblogged them.
"writing a slash fic instead of writing i've been googling what jewelry young german women wore in the 1700s"
"i'm pretty sure i'm on the fbi and interpol hitlists because of my search history"
"story prompt: overly helpful serial killer sweetheart x clueless crime fiction writer"
"when you don't know long division but you can talk about the taxation laws in victorian england because you needed to find out how taxes work to make your story believable"
they're memes that make you chuckle, guffaw, and nod because they're relatable! everyone hates the idea of being corrected by a random poindexter who can call you out on your bullshit on victorian tax laws, you uncultured fool, or who happens to know how blood sprays look if you shoot a person a certain way, you gormless coward, not because they were shooting the gun but they were part of the forensics team, pinky promise, i wasn't there on the 15th of november. and it's a bit absurd. like, who exactly knows - or cares - about victorian tax laws? does it really matter to write about reality in all its facets into fiction? majority of your readers probably aren't vampires or other extant immortals so does it really matter if you don't hold history up as accurately as possible in your 30k friends-to-enemies-to-lovers dark academia yuri slashfic? does historical accuracy matter when you're writing about samurais in the heian period in modern english with modern sensibilities? who would even know what stuff was really like back then? some things aren't googlable, and you can't always trust google anyways.
i don't know the answer to all these questions. but i know the answer to one.
so, back to the library.
one day, i'm shelving history books one after the other, listening to an audiobook from a public library using a library card of which i faked my address for me to use. reparations. and way more ethical than piracy in my eyes. support authors, patronize libraries, and all that. when i shelve books, i like to wonder about who reads them and why. what research they're doing. what they're doing here. whether they know how lucky they are. i envy this library where i work. i envy the people who live in this town. i envy the readers. they have all of this because someone recognized the value of hoarding, the value of taking and tabulating and preserving. one could argue it's the colonial way. but enough of that, i'm shelving books, books that i sometimes wonder at, because i never could have imagined so many books on so many topics, and sometimes they are topics that are so trivial and-
and i'm holding, in my hands, a book about the jewelry young german women wore in the 1700s.
being in a university town, you come to understand that academics have their pet projects; the drive to understand the minutiae of their field, of humanity, of nature. think of a topic and there's probably a dissertation for that. you also understand there is a lot of publishing politics, that researchers' papers are paywalled behind exorbitant fees for which they receive no royalties from. you also understand that academia can also be elitist, even when the people inside it call for open access.
to other people, i'm sure i sound incoherent and raving. but i'm sure that there are people out there who understood why i took several moments staring at this book, recalling all those fucking memes about historical accuracy, of people joking that they're looking for things even the internet has no answer for. because the answers do exist. someone's written about them. someone took the time to look at and tabulate and write about german jewelry. someone else, tax laws. some other person, blood sprays, either through study or applied experimentation. the knowledge is out there. they just aren't available to you.

#Ash's ramblings#you ever just take a look at yourself and it's like#it kinda looks like 85% of my problems lead back to my complete lack of a sense of self worth#and you go well maybe you really could use some therapy. but also it's 4.30pm on a thursday#and it's the end of term and you really have to finish that presentation and study for that exam and complete these 3 essays#and start on the other essays and hope the writing test tomorrow will go well and what about the speaking exam on Monday#that is online but the presentation is on site and there's only half an hour between and that's not enough time to get to uni actually#and. all the other things that take priority#and also therapy is kinda expensive and you already don't have hobbies bc you can't afford any classes and without classes you won't stick#to anything so can you afford therapy. and if you can wouldn't it be more fun to do sth else instead#but you kinda can't anyway but. maybe. Idk. but therapy also costs time and you don't have that either#and also you're not that bad off anyway so wouldn't it kinda be overkill. kinda embarrassing to go. you're functioning and all#havent considered drastic measures in quite a while. and what if you really ARE just stupid so your sense of self worth is in fact accurate#and therapy can't actually make you like. smart or talented or whatever so. wouldn't it just be a waste of time.#and then you look back at your laptop and realise you should be studying instead of mildly spiralling on tumblr so you get back to that#and try to focus#ily all feel free to ignore me I'm just stressed#Tag ramblings#suicide mention#Like. Very mild and not directly and all but idk just in case?? Idk what counts as triggering for whom so#it's like. idly thinking about why I practically never invite ppl to my flat. oh it's bc I'm embarrassed of the way I live and#scared it won't be good enough for others#why am I so immediately forgiving and willing to acceot things that hurt me. oh it's bc if I don't ppl won't have a reason to stick around#why do I get so quietly intensely jealous when ppl do cool things and have good things happen to them. oh it's bc it makes me think#that they'll realise how very much I don't fit into that cool life they're living and I can't keep up and I'm boring and the opposite of#anything they want in their life#I do realise this is. like. a problem.#it does not make me a better friend or partner or whatever if I'm constantly occupied with negative feelings about myself that#are no one else's problems and I shouldn't make it so. so I do not but it's still there and I can't make it go away#and I'm sure it's obvious sometimes that there's SOMETHING and that's. you know. Idk where I'm going with this.

best day of my life was when vimms lair let other regional versions of games be on the site u have no idea how happy i was. like yes finally i dont have to send people digging through a huge archive.org dump of DS games so they can play professor layton & not suffer thru lukes american dub voice 😭
#like me personally i dont care if i have to jump through hoops to download something so that wasnt even an inconvenience for me#if anything i loooove having to work harder to find a download for something it feels more rewarding <- has 2 much free time 2 spend online#but sadly the average person does not enjoy internet sleuthing or file conversion or downloading & installing torrent progeams or whatever#like they just want a ddl. which is absolutely fair like me too for a lotta stuff! but that means theyd go to vimms lair to download it#& just download the NA release 😔 like i think 99% of people do not care about this but i need you to go look up a comparison#of luke triton's NA english dub vs. his EU english dub. if you played the american ones just think about how he sounds in the movie#but like oh my god. im so grateful i lived in england when i got into layton cause that meant it was way easier to get UK copies of thegames#like i ended up getting a european 3ds while i lived there to play the 3ds games & it was so worth it. i Dont like american dub luke triton#HES NOT EVEN AMERICAN IN THE DUB he just has a fake british accent and it does Not sound good especially when i heard the (superior) dub 1st#like i need to stress the american dub isnt even that bad. its not speedwagon dub bad.#<- my mom compared speedys voice to dick van dyke in mary poppins which is honestly an insult to dick van dyke in mary poppins#like its objectively a terrible accent. but he makes it work. The jojos part 1 dub cast for 99% of the time... does not. 😭#ITS NOT EVEN BAD ACTING ITS THE ACCENTS. THEYRE AWFUL. i need you to know jonathan's VA also voices nero dmc and adachi persona4. like#hes obviously a talented voice actor!!!! But why cant you just hire a british person to do this#or like. at least an american who can actually do a good english accent 😭#like jojos makes it work... sometimes. i think its better in part 2 because theres like a variety of different accents and they all suck#like somehow that works in its favor. but knowing jonathan is one of the better ones in part 1 is 😭#dio is probably my fave of the english cast because well the bar is on the floor. but hes as dramatic as he should be#which definitely helps#i forgotwhat i was talking about. ummmmm. idk#in conclusion if you ask me sub or dub id have to say it depends. ''depends on what'' well what it depends on... depends!#<- only guy who writes conclusions to his fucking tumblr tags like its an essay or something#muffin mumbles

AO3 Etiquette -UPDATED
Based on both decent and not so decent replies, I have made some changes to my original post below.
It would seem a whole new kind of AO3 reader/writer is emerging and it is becoming clear not everyone quite understands how the website community works. Here is some basic guidance on how most people expect you to go about using AO3 to keep this a fun community archive that funtions correctly:
As well as likes, kudos is for when the story was interesting enough to make you finish reading. If it sucked or was badly written, you probably left. If you finished it, you liked it - so kudos.
If you really liked it, you should try to comment. It can be long and detailed or a literal keysmash. Writers don't care, we just love comments.
No critisism unless the author has specifically asked or agreed to hear it (so use your notes to say if you want some constructive feedback). Even constructive critisism is a no-no unless an author note tells you it's okay. No, posting it online is not an open invitation for that. Many people write as a fun hobby or a way to cope with, among other things, insecurity and just want to share. Don't ruin that for them. I've seen so many authors just stop writing coz they can't handle the negative emotions the critism brings, and it's only meant to be a fun thing shared for free (pointing out tagging errors is not included in this).
Do not comment to ask the author to write/update something else. It's tacky and off-putting and will probably have the opposite effect than the one you want.
There is no algorithm, it's an archive. Use the search and filter function to add/remove the pairings/characters/tropes etc. you want to read about and it will find you the fics that fit the bill.
For this to work, writers must tag and rate stories. This avoids readers finding the wrong things and missing the stuff they want. I don't care how cringy that trope is in your eyes - it gets tagged.
The tag exception is if you don't want to tag a million things or spoil your story, you can rate it as "chose not to use warnings," and maybe tag the bare minimum.
Don't censor tags. How can someone exclude a tag if the word isn't typed out correctly? There are no content bans for terms so don't censor them.
If the tags are mostly content/trigger warnings, especially if they are things considered very fucked up or graphic, you might want to use "dead dove - do not eat" to ensure people know that you're not messing around with tags and what they get is exactly what you've warned them about.
Character A/Character B means a ROMANTIC or SEXUAL relationship of some kind. Character A&Character B is PLATONIC, like friendship or family.
Nothing is banned. This is an rule because banning one thing is a slipperly slope to banning another and another, until nothing is allowed anymore. Do not expect anyone to censor for you. Because of the tags system, you are responsible for your own reading experience.
People can create new chapters and sequels/fic series any time after they "complete" a story. So it's considered perfectly normal to subscribe, even to a finished story. You can even subscribe to the author instead just to cover your bases.
Do not repost stories or change the publishing date without an extremely good reason (like a complete top to bottom rewrite or an exchange youve written for going public). It's an archive, not social media. No one cares what's the most recent, only what fits their tag needs.
Instead of deleting a story you wrote if you hate it - consider making it anonymous or orphaning it so others can still enjoy it, without it being connected to your name anymore. If you still want to delete it, fair enough.
It's come to my attention that metaworks ARE allowed on AO3, which is something I wasn't aware of. So if you do post an essay or theory, please tag it as such so others can choose to search for it or exclude it. Art is also allowed.
The only reason this archive works is because NON ONE PROFITS. Do not link to your ko-fi or patreon or mention monetary gain in any way or you violate the terms and risk having your account removed. If anyone does link, it leaves the archive open to people claiming it's for profit and having the whole thing removed.
I KNOW there's plenty more I missed but I'm trying to cover most of the basics that people seem to be struggling with.
I invite anyone to add to this, but please explain, don't berate.

Introduction
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the world, with new applications emerging all the time. AI has the potential to revolutionize many industries and improve our lives in many ways. However, there are also some potential drawbacks to AI that should be considered.
Body Paragraph 1
One of the main benefits of AI is that it can automate tasks that are currently done by humans. This can free up human workers to focus on more creative and strategic tasks. For example, AI is already being used to automate tasks in manufacturing, customer service, and healthcare.
Another benefit of AI is that it can help us to make better decisions. AI can analyze large amounts of data to identify patterns and trends that would be difficult or impossible for humans to see. This information can then be used to make more informed decisions. For example, AI is being used to improve fraud detection, medical diagnosis, and investment strategies.
Body Paragraph 2
However, there are also some potential drawbacks to AI. One concern is that AI could lead to job losses, as machines become capable of performing more and more tasks that are currently done by humans. Another concern is that AI could be used to create autonomous weapons that could pose a threat to humanity.
Additionally, there is the potential for AI to be biased, reflecting the biases of the data that it is trained on. This could lead to unfair outcomes, such as people being denied opportunities or discriminated against.
Conclusion
Overall, AI has the potential to revolutionize our world in both positive and negative ways. It is important to be aware of the potential drawbacks of AI so that we can develop safeguards to mitigate these risks. We should also ensure that AI is developed and used in a responsible and ethical manner.

All of the local "hey, let's meet up to freely exchange our unneeded household goods" groups around here want you to, like, join a specific online community, provide proof of local residence, and explain in detail why you want to be a part of it before they'll tell you when and where the next meet is.
I understand why they feel the need to do this. I know they want to make sure they're dealing with other people in need, and to screen out the assholes who just want to snaffle up free shit so they can sell it on eBay while contributing nothing to the undertaking. I get it.
This understanding does not render it any less absurd that I'm being asked to write an essay about why I want to give away a lamp.
