2024: 4 fics (so far). prsk, a3!, one piece live action
chef's recommendations
most well-written imo & most satisfied with
death, reversed (2023. bradnero, mhyk)
chiaroscuro (2024. juaka. a3!)
infinite/infinitesimal (2022. kanamafu, prsk)
[__] (2019. banju/bantaiju, a3!)
i'm really happy with all of these! these are the ones i'd use to show off my technical skill (structure, language, etc), but it's also a damn good showcase of the themes i'm best at.
personal favs
nuit blanche (2022. kuwana, lost judgement): i wrote this one fast and furious. all passion, didn't look back. it turned out GREAT.
【 ✦ — ACTOR'S CAFE OPEN! ⋆ THE CHUUNIBYOU CLASH OF LIFE AND DEATH! 】 (2021. itaru, kumon, taichi, tsumugi. a3!): super experimental. i think i pulled off the style imitation really well, characterization didn't falter even with the new style, and hit a lot of good humour beats too. i don't often write this kind of style, but i think i'm pretty damn good at it anyway.
personal milestones
position zero (2019. bantai, a3!): the fic where i really started interpreting characters with my own ideas instead of bandwagonning fandom!
>>the death of hyodo juza (2022. bantaiju, a3!)<<: my ultimate goal as a writer was to 1. get really good at character studies, 2. write a 10k oneshot. i accomplished both with the death of hyodo juza!!
what's next
my main goals as a writer have been accomplished!!! i want to set another one to strive towards! one day i'd like to finish a full draft for nanowrimo! i'm not a 50k novel kind of guy, so i'm striving for something that passes all my personal checks within the time limit.
this is lesser on the priority list, but i think it'd be so damn cool to finish one of those month-long challenges. kinktober, writetober, what have you...a full-fledged 1k+ fic for every day of the month. it sounds impossible, but i'd feel so good about doing it!
for 2024, here's what i've got:
match the number of fics posted in 2014 (10). that 10-year parallel is deeply satisfying to think about!
join kanamafuweek!
complete soundtracks: ensemble!
finish at least one more wip from my drive!
and as always,
keep writing (the more the better!)
keep improving (as long as i write, i'll improve!)
like i say at the end of every a3 fic i write: thanks for reading! see you next fic!

Day 4- 195 words
October running total- 400 words
Okay so I did not write as much today as I had hoped. I did get a prompt finished and posted so there’s success in that at least. Hopefully I can start writing sooner tomorrow and not wait until I’m dead tired! Anyway, still making progress so that’s something.
Fave lines of today:
She was so beautiful like this. Open and pouring herself out. Letting him in. Reveling in the moment without a promise of tomorrow. Or perhaps a promise that tomorrow will be there and they’ll have each other to make it better.
#writetober 2021#bear writes#all these will be tagged writetober 2021 if you want to block that tab#I feel weird writing my fave lines but this is how I combat my super critical voice in my head#so I can keep writing and don’t get defeated

hey!! i was wondering if you were making a 2022 writing tracker again this year? the 2021 saved my LIFE and i loved it sm!! <333
Yes! I'm so glad you enjoyed using the 2021 tracker. I didn't really change anything for 2022, but I did go through and update the dates so it's fresh and ready to go:
Grab your own copy here.
The link includes the year-long tracker and the smaller sheet with the 30- and 31-day mini-trackers for month-long challenges like NaNoWriMo or Writetober.

Writetober 2021 - 28 'Crispy'
One of the last times the Losers were all together after that summer was the first tender days of autumn. The leaves were falling a little early this year and the Barrens, full as it was with trees and other foliage, became a wonderland of orange, brown and gold.
They lost time playing with those leaves in a way only children could. They crunched them under their feet, delighting in the rasp of the crispy leaves crushed beneath their weight. They threw handfuls of them at each other, even though the throws never went very far. They caught them in the air and had a competition to see how many they could catch. Richie accidentally plunged his fingers into a pile that was wet from rain underneath. Resounding noises of disgust went around, followed by shrieks as Richie declared he was going to stuff the sodding leaves down someone's trousers. Stan was the unlucky recipient of the leaves, but down his shirt and only because he'd slipped. They all laughed, even Stan, who was only lightly hitting Richie away as it didn't actually bother him that much. Any adult would have looked and wondered why it was so entertaining to play with a bunch of leaves. But this wasn't about the grownups. This was about them.

Writetober 2021 - 27 'Spark'
If not for Bill, Eddie would probably not have had any other friends. It was Bill who introduced him to Richie and Stan, way before the mysterious power between them all brought more into the circle.
Bill was a natural extrovert and people magnetised to him. Eddie was just happy to be there.
At some point however, Eddie couldn't fail to notice how Richie turned his attention him to more often than the others. It was Eddie that Richie wanted to tell jokes to, rough around with, tease and make laugh the most. It was Eddie that Richie sat next to if he had a choice. It was good to be the one people wanted to be around. Eddie admired Bill. There was something slightly different in the pleasure he got from Richie's attention though. A vibrant spark of something his young mind couldn't yet comprehend. He didn't question it. The joy between them was just enough for now.

Writetober 2021 - 21 'Fuzzy'
Eddie opened one eye. He was still tired, and luckily, still comfortable. The crest of his thick blanket was all Eddie could see. The vaguest hints of sun trickling over the top.
Too comfortable. Not getting up.
He turned around and nuzzled his face into Richie's back. Richie grunted and sleepily put his arm behind him, groping for Eddie. Eddie cuddled into that arm as Richie turned over a little, almost squashing him.
Richie grunted something that might have been 'hi'. Eddie hummed, already almost back to sleep, his chest warm and full with love.

Writetober 2021 - 19 'Loop'
Although Rose had intended to keep it to herself, she did tell Crow about the hugely powerful steamheads she'd detected in Derry, Maine. She knew it was Derry, Maine - because even that brief connection had put her right in the heads of several figures. She wasn't there long enough to tell how many, or why they were standing in a circle, their power looping around them like a circuit. However, she was there long enough to decide they weren't worth it. "And why's that?" Crow asked, stroking Rose's bare back as they lay together. "We're not exactly running low on steam and...there was something else there with them. Something...it was hurt, about to sleep, but it's influence was all over that town like a sickness. Bad shit. Not worth bothering the True about, no need to fight for food when so much of it is around." This had quenched Crow's thirst, but Rose thought about it longer into the night. It wasn't another of the True. It wasn't anything like them even though it fed on humans in a similar way. She felt It's influence in each of those rube kids. Like a fungal growth in their psyche. Who knew what that kind of poison would do to their steam.

Writetober 2021 - 7 'Fan'
A part of the healing process, for Beverly, was finding childhood memories that were actually pleasant.
She recalled a time she had gone over to Ben's house. His mother had been so flustered and happy to see Bev there and would every time. Beverly knew she was pretty, just as surely as she knew that Ben's mother just couldn't believe Bev (a pretty girl) was genuinely friends with her son. Maybe she kept coming over to assure both Ben and his mother of one simple fact - she adored Ben and couldn't dream of using him. She was his friend and always would be. It had been hot that day, so Ben had pulled out a large standing fan he had. He plugged it in and they watched tv for a while longer, before Beverly had gotten up and showed Ben how yelling into the fan made your voice sound all funny. They'd spent a good fifteen minutes hollering into that fan, telling dumb jokes and laughing until they cried. It was a great memory.

Writetober 2021 - 4 'Knot'
The Losers had no idea how lucky they really were. They had some idea, of course, as they stood there in the dirty water and held their bleeding hands together. They had some idea of the power they all had. The power that flowed through them, bonding them to one another, giving them the strength to fight a creature whose main weakness had nothing to do with physical violence. Some idea, but not the full picture. That was for the better. They had fought one parasite, but there would always be more in their lives. As they stood in the circle, the immense power of The Seven gave off a signal. A signal only a few could detect. Some of the people in Derry felt it. It itched at the back of their skulls, or made them turn their heads sharply in the direction of the Barrens, without really knowing why. Most felt nothing. It also attracted the attention of another set of parasites. Parasites that made their home in camper vans. A rush of power, quickly hidden again by an unknown force, was still enough to turn the curious head of a lady in a tophat. She paused, probed, found nothing more, sighed and forgot about it. How lucky for the Losers.

Writetober 2021 - 1 'Crystal'
Ah yes my fave time of the year, appropriating Inktober prompts into writing because I can't draw.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn't the first, or last time, that Eddie Kaspbrak would be hurt. That didn't mean it got any easier each time. He was sat on Richie's porch, his legs on the steps so he could hold his bleeding nose downwards. Richie had fetched him a wad of tissues and he had then pressed to the underside of his stinging and swollen nose. The other hand was pinching the bridge of his nose.
Richie was sat beside him, for once, quiet. They both seemed to be thinking heavily on what kind of life they lived. Hunted. That's what kind of life they lived. Grownups would tell you that human beings didn't have predators. But that wasn't true, at least not if you were a child. There were things under this town that wished to eat them, but they were also things on the surface too. People preyed on people. If you were a little kid, it was the older kids. The stronger kids that just needed somebody to take their anger out on. The Losers were nothing but a herd of fresh meat that never seemed to run out.
Eddie sniffed. He was trying not to cry any more. As if sensing the impending tears, Eddie felt a warm weight around his shoulders as Richie silently put his arm around the sniffling boy. He wanted to settle right into Richie for a tight hug, but he couldn't risk looking like a baby or a queer. He did lean a little into it though, despite his fear. "How ya holdin' up, Eds m'boy?" Richie piped up. Eddie took the tissues away from his nose. It looked like the blood had stopped. "How do I look?" He turned towards the other. "Beautiful." There was an odd sincerity to Richie's compliment that made Eddie blush. His eyes met with Richie's and he blushed even more. His eyes had always been this huge and magnified, but had they always been so pretty, so wonderfully crystal blue?
