For the rarepair ask game, I haven't really thought about Ranna/Gregory before so I'll ask about that since I'm curious! A, B, G, I, & P please 😊

A - What made you ship it and why?

The first time I saw Pax Romana, I just kind of assumed they were together, based off of Ranna's attitude when she was speaking to Helen about Gregory and her further reaction to seeing Gregory in the tunnels.

"We don't know where he is." "Well he should have come to see me."

Man, the way she said those things, it was pesonaaaaal. That was more than 'my friend has done illegal things and taken off before I could get the story'.

And their interactions in the tunnels was just *so* shippy to me. It really felt like they were a couple, with Ranna's anger and Gregory's apology, then defense of Ranna to Helen.

Gregory staying behind and Ranna being almost apologetic about it, it seemed like there was underlying reason to him staying other than the city was cool and he liked living there.

So, I ended up shipping it because it seemed so obvious to me and I liked them together.

B - What's your favorite thing about this ship?

Their partnership. They just have so much respect for each other and are a good balance in their personalities.

Gregory balances Ranna's arrogance and hasty aggression and Ranna balances Gregory's carelessness and his unwillingness to do things. (Like when he only put down the abnormal after it killed all the others in his laboratory sort of thing).

They understand each other's flaws and actively aid each other where the other needs help.

G - Recommend a fic (or more than one!) for this ship (Assuming the fics exist. Self-recs are welcome!).

You know, I don't think there is one. There's a smattering where I know they're mentioned, but not in any significant aspect and those were just ones I saw scrolling through fanfiction.net, not ones that I've actually read.

And the two I'm currently writing with them as a pair in it aren't ready to be published and won't be for quite some time.

I - If these characters exist in the same universe, have they ever interacted in canon and/or were they ever romantically linked in canon? If no to either one, do you think they should've interacted and/or been romantically linked in canon, or do you indulge the ship for purely AU purposes?

They definitely interacted in canon, but there was no exact romantic linking in canon.

But like I stated above, I thought it was kind of obvious that they were together, so I can't say that I indulge it for pure AU reasons.

So, yes, I think they should have, but it leaves shipping much more open.

P - What do you think drew these characters together?

I think, honestly, they were each a novelty to each other at first.

Ranna most likely had never met a surface human before (unless maybe Adam, depending on how you want to view her age) and Gregory had to admire her personality and her freedom in her society.

So, they were drawn together out of curiosity at first and started a friendship that ended up progressing to feelings the longer they spent with each other.

Gregory's expertise on (surface) abnormals and Ranna's bond with Kanaan was also probably a big draw.

So. They were drawn together out of curiosity and the knowledge they both possessed and that eventually involved into friendship and that friendship eventually evolved into romantic feelings.

A nice, slow steady drawing together rather than a spark and bang.

🥰 a fluff WIP snippet and😔published lines or a section of a fic that was super sad, angsty, or difficult to write? for the ask game 😊

As a crowned queen of fluff I feel terrible writing this next sentence:

I have no fluffy wips atm. 😭 Hopefully I can change that soon, but for now I beg forgiveness.

As for a section of fic that was super sad, angsty, or difficult to write, have a bit of Fed Is Best. This came a few weeks after I decided to bottle feed youngest (she and I were not getting on breastfeeding even though I had lots of help from friends and the midwives) and I needed a way to deal.

Ashley wailed again, her cries drilling through Helen's head, making her heart ache. It was after 3am when she'd woken for her feed, and Helen just couldn't stomach the thought of… anything concerning her child. She wanted desperately to hold her close, keep her safe, have her as far away from her as possible. Who was she kidding? She couldn't be a mother, how could she countenance something so egotistical? Everything hurt so much. Another wail, weaker this time. Helen could hear the diminishing strength and started bawling. “Please, Ashley darling,” she pleaded, picking her up from the Moses basket next to her bed and holding her gingerly close to her. “I can't feed you if you're crying. The midwife said we have to be calm when I feed you. And you-- you-- you have to stop crying.” Stroking Ashley's bright red cheek, and blinking away her own huge, fat tears, Helen pushed her own feelings aside as she put squalling Ashley on her bed. Unbuttoning her nightshirt and moving to make herself comfortable, dread washed through her. Even though she knew she had to do this, Helen wanted nothing more than a bona fide wet nurse to knock on her door and take over feeding, or a crab to cut off her nipples without anaesthetic. Anything would be better than having Ashley on her breast again. Steeling herself, she waited on tenterhooks for her to latch, praying everything would work, that the -- A small scream tore from her throat as Ashley suckled, her little hand resting on Helen's breast, Helen's heart racing as she tried to control herself. Breathing deeply, she fixated on a corner of her room, counting to thirty, praying for the pain to lessen, for that wondrous moment when she’d feel the calm all other mums said they felt as they fed their child. It never came.

🎬 If a movie or show were based on your fic, which fic would you choose and who would you fancast?

I would choose Enigmatic Confections. It's one of my all-time favorites, even though if it were a show or movie it would probably run the risk of being all Hallmark-y.

As for fancasting....? I mean, ideally the actors who play the characters in the first place.

🧪 Do you research for your fics?

Sometimes! Depends on the fic, really. I don't usually deep dive into research unless I absolutely have to, but I do like to have my facts right.

Medical things I especially research, such as injuries and I did extensive research on eating disorders so I could portray it properly and I hope....respectfully, if that makes sense?

Mostly, my research has been finding pairings and recipes for Enigmatic Confections.

I could have sworn they were blue, but Pax Romana makes everyone's eyes look brownish and then I saw a Bridgerton post that said the actress has green eyes????

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes! I try to! The only time I don't is if I've already been chatting to the person about the thing. But otherwise yes. Come be my friend via the comments!!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I had one called 'Release' that was all about Helen dying and choosing to go which was pretty angsty. 'She Had Him at Hello' is also gonna have a more angsty ending because canon is angsty when it comes to Helen and Nikola...

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Hehe. Most of them? I generally prefer happy endings because life is dark and depressing enough all on its own... I mean I did a whole series where the central premise was giving Helen and Nikola the happy ending the writers weren't willing to offer...

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Honestly, not since joining the Sanctuary fandom. The only really awful, vitrolic hate I recieved was in a different fandom (nothing quite like a gang of middle aged women telling you that you're awful to start off your writing journey!!)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Lol. Yes. Most kinds. I'm new to the kinkier stuff, but provided it is consensual, I'm game.

Most of my stuff is romantic-y though. I like to write the tender stuff, with the occasional rough and tumble threaded throughout.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Haven't done one yet! Though I'm not adverse to it - my brain just doesn't work that way.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I... I don't think so. Is that a thing people do?! Yikes...

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I don't think so.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic?

Nope. Again though, not adverse to the idea!

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

Helen/Nikola. Hands down. Their dynamic is *chefs kiss*

16. What are your writing strengths?

Description, probably. And build up maybe? I'm pretty good at stretching out the anticipation...

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Fight sequences. I know in theory they're no different to sex scenes, but a lot of the smut I write is about the feeling rather than the action.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I used to do a fair bit of it, but I've found ways around it now so that I don't have to struggle with grammar I'm absolutely going to get wrong. The only exceptions for me are when I want to use a single word (like when Helen meets one of Nikola's sisters and she says 'sestra') where translation is clear, or when a character is trying to hide something from another. But even then I'll normally not use more than a word or two.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Private Practice.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Well, my current favourite is 'Stupid' because it really was my first go at writing some proper kinky stuff and I'm pretty pleased with how chapter 2 turned out, even if I'm still a bit nervous about posting it because it's more intense than anything I've written before.
