Noise, Chaos and Truth

In one ear rhythm rhyme, pulse, truth,  presented here an now an attempt, a reflection of work once lived, now on Repeat

In one ear I cannot fathom the tune of chaos, a deafening cacophony of misunderstanding. A word here, a breath’s echo together the world, forever on  Repeat

Within I find no sound, but here there be words. I see, I hear, I sense all the myriad of nothing contained within. Yet in this confinement,  not a single repetition.

Company Mindset & Culture

The mindset and direction of a company greatly influences not only the working environment and satisfaction of the games themselves but  the quality of the games that get put out. I want to demonstrate this with three great game companies and games that I really love. These game companies are Projekt Red, Blizzard and Kojima Productions.

Project Red has said they “...wanted to be known for treating developers with respect..." and  that they “...believe reinventing that wheel every friggin' time is what makes a better game. It's what creates innovation and makes it possible for us to say we've worked really hard on something, and we think it's worth your hard-earned cash. If you make games with a 'close enough is good enough' attitude, you end up in a comfort zone. And you know where the magic happens." While they’ve been critisized by employees for overtime and crunch it’s undeniable when you look at games like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk77 that that belief in reinventing the wheel and working hard really is reflected in the games that are developed by the company. The Witcher 3 was arguably one of the best games that came out that year and was loved by people who have never even heard of or previously disliked the Witcher series. Whether one likes it or not the positives of the attitude of sometimes having crunch in an attempt to make the players happy are clearly seen.

Blizzard, although currently in a bit of hot water with the fanbase because of political decisions are usually good with company attitude and mindset. Glassdor says “Blizzard Entertainment’s CEO Mike Morhaime has a near-perfect rating on Glassdoor, at 99 percent. As one current employee put it, “overall, the C-suite and senior leadership is doing a fantastic job. [Our] feedback is consistently sought, and they’re always looking for ways to level up the company.”But beyond that, a former employee says, “[the] environment is wonderful. Geek or not, you will find others around you that are wonderful to talk to. There are so many days where it almost doesn’t even feel like work!” “ Not only this but blizzard is known for its games and employees including fun and diversity in all aspects and that definitely is shown through the games that they put out like Overwatch and World of Warcraft.

Kojima Productions talk straightforwardly about their goals for the future and their games. “Sekine...described the high-level goals for the team, noting a plan to “create the highest-quality interactive entertainment” while “touching people’s emotions.” “Our mission is [to] become the top studio in the world,” “ Anyone that’s played Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain can attest to this goal being achieved already. Most of the Metal Gear games are quite touching and extremely high-quality for their time. When companies maintain that the mindset and goals of the company are important those values will definitely come out within the games that are produced and the company employees that work at and talk to others about the company.
