The scene in 13x20 Unfinished Business where Sam's getting choked while Dean's getting whipped by a twink. That's good scenes.

brain is just mii waiting room music as i consider where i've ended up in my supernatural fandom journey
#that is to say: a berenscrit dabbfan and glynn stan who considers s1-3 kripke and dabb era to be the best eras of spn#which means i'm sad bloodlines wasn't picked up as separate from spn and think it's a blessing in disguise that wayward wasn't greenlit#also i'm going to be watching an adaptation of a YA novel that i have zero interest in just bc glynn is the showrunner....#i wasn't in the fandom when wayward wasn't picked up but everything i've heard really sounds like it could've been a firefly s2 situation#i feel like the issues with kaia's character are well-understood at this point but killing off missouri to make her a spirit guide(???)#for patience is uh. questionable. and depending on how it was handled could have fallen badly into the magical negro trope#the shitty thing is that we all know it wasn't picked up bc execs thought an all-female cast with middle aged women as leads#wasn't marketable to a larger audience and that part is bullshit but i think maybe it was best it didn't go forward as it was planned#like unless they were intending to have a very diverse writers room i cannot imagine what berens might have come up with#the creation and treatment of kaia as a character says a lot and i think the blame falls more on him than dabb or other writers bc she was#created with the intention of being on the show he would be showrunner for so i think he had more independence/less oversight#dabb is complicit tho and so are the rest of the writers tbh since it doesn't seem like anyone saw any huge issues with it#also: davy perez wrote a better confession in stuck in the middle with you vs 15x18 and does not get nearly enough respect for it 🙄#tbh *none* of the other writers get enough respect like my god you're gonna stan berens and NOT ms meredith glynn????#thee all-rounder and Understander of late seasons and top 5 writers on the show *ever*?#glynn could do 05x04 the end but bedlund could never do regarding dean#hashtag Takes that would get you cancelled in 2021#spn

Imagine that a Supernatural sequel and its showrunner have been announced. Spin the wheel, find out which writer is the showrunner, and answer the question:
If you want to know/remember which episodes your writer wrote, you can follow the links below.
Eric Kripke
Sera Gamble
Jeremy Carver
Andrew Dabb
Ben Edlund
Cathryn Humphris
John Shiban
Raelle Tucker
Robert Berens
Buckleming - Brad Buckner and Eugenie Ross-Leming
Adam Glass
Robbie Thompson
Charmelo&Snyder - Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder
Steve Yockey
Davy Perez
Meredith Glynn
Jenny Klein
Ryan Murphy - he's the creator/writer of Glee, 9-1-1, American Horror Story, etc. He's never written anything for spn, he's just here for the joke (and for me to see if there are people who would watch Supernatural, written by the creator of Glee).

this isn't really about who the best writer is but rather whose version of Sam you like the best
also not including Edlund or Kripke for any of these because that's too easy sorry

The thing is. I don’t have to wonder what it means. I know what it means. There are four writers where I can say with absolute certainty they were writing dean winchester gay love angel. Steve Love can get crazier than that yockey. Bobo I love you berens. Meredith cas is my best friend Glynn. Eric twitter likes full of destiel gay sex charmelo. However. The problem. The issue. Is There are more writers than that

Note
The writers were aware of Destiel and most of them treated it as if it was a joke.
Yes there were a few exceptions, Heller writers like Meredith Glynn, and losers like Bobo the clown. But on the whole they thought Destiel and Destiel shippers were stupid.
Of course Misha will peddle that crap until his dying day, and his minion dumb dumbs will believe his every word. More fool them.
Isn't it kinda sad?? How far he's fallen?? Here we have a grown ass, middle aged man still pandering to a loud group of horny fangirls?? How pathetic does your life have to be???

reminder: I’m not asking you whose writing you consider to be the best on a technical level, I’m asking you whose writing compels you the most personally. whose episodes do you keep coming back to?
also please note that my episode selection is biased and does not (necessarily) capture the full scope of each writer’s work on the show.
also also note that "red meat" was a berens/dabb collab.

dgmw, it's not like i think berens is a terrible person, but i think he has a lot of blind spots (and a certain lack of nuance) and his particular storytelling sensibilities weren't always the greatest fit for late seasons/dabb era spn which did take a different tack & tone to prior seasons.
like all the other seasons are about The Cycle but seasons 12-15 are (trying to be) about Seeing The Cycle and Breaking It

I simply do not understand what so many Deangirls have against Sera Gamble. Was she the absolute best at writing Dean? Probably not; for that, I'd go with either Eric Kripke or Raelle Tucker in the early years, Jenny Klein in the middle, and Meredith Glynn towards the end of SPN's run. But I can't think of a Dean episode she wrote-- and she did write some-- that was horrendous, either. Most were pretty good, although, for most of the ones written after Tucker left, I'd lean more toward "solid B" than "A+." (She did, however, write some spectacular Sam eps.)
I will grant them that season 6 includes some shaky plots, including Dean's arc with Lisa and Ben. How do Dean and Lisa fund multiple moves? How can they hide from Dean's enemies while remaining in contact with her family? What does Cass fills in their two years' worth of missing memories with? All good questions!
But they're the kind of questions that bug me, not that bug most Gamble antis. I don't see them demanding answers to why the Winchesters think the bunker is safe from bad angels if the warding doesn't keep Cass out, or how Jack can be immune to angel blades yet susceptible to your bog-standard police stun gun.
If I put on my critic hat, Gamble didn't do a perfect job on SPN, as a writer or a showrunner. I can see why some people would dislike her work. What puzzles me is the lack of specific complaints. It just isn't how I think. I dislike plenty of writers-- but I can tell you exactly which of their lines ticks me off. Why would you be mad at a TV writer if you couldn't think of what they'd gotten wrong?

My turn for Friendly Friday! a) Which character would you resurrect in later SPN seasons, if any?; b) Which writer would you hire to helm an SPN sequel?
Ooo, thank you!
OG Kevin Tran. There was the perfect opportunity for it to happen when Donatello got brain-melted. Say, Cas tries to heal Donatello, and through the power invested by someone else's soul or other, Donatello comes back with a BANG, but he's no longer a prophet. The power rebounded all the way back and resurrected The Kevin Tran, but very crucially, he doesn't want to help The Winchesters anymore, and that causes Big Tension. Jack will argue in his favor, because he failed to protect AU Kevin from AU Michael.
Writer for the sequel? I know everyone and their brother would insist on Robbie Thompson for his love and care, but I actually...love his themes more than I love his dialogue, which I found rather clumsy in both his OG run and in The Winchesters. I also don't think he has a good ear for Sam or Cas, so... I'm choosing Ben Edlund, the wryest Cas to ever Cas (more “lost in translation” style than “stupid duck” style) and who can tap into Sam's inner asshole even when Sam's trying to play nice. This second in command can be Meredith Glynn, because I like how she structures scenes, and that's just how my heart feels today. The heart wants what it wants.
I’ll happily trust Robbie with Dean and creating annoying-but-eventually-kinda-endearing side characters + world building + big plots. But I just don’t think he has the chops for quite hitting what I need with Sam and Cas, respectively, and a sequel would need to be so heavily Sam-driven, no offense. 🙏 (Besties, don’t kill me. I could be wrong. I don’t actually study the writers in depth.)

You know, as iconic as The Charlie Attack was, I am very sad that no spn writers will ever do cons again because of it. Just because Buckleming deserve to have tomatoes thrown at them in the town square doesn't mean we'll do that to everyone. Pspsps Meredith glynn you want to do a con SO bad.

some jumbled thoughts about the writers. I actually like Dabb's writing for young Sam at least, it's part of what makes Dark Side of the Moon great, and it makes The Girl Next Door and After School Special salvageable. Sera Gamble is a great writer, one of the best in the show, but unfortunately she wasn't a very good showrunner (though i do think some of it was more because of external forces and/or misogyny...). same with carver: very good standalone episodes, not terribly great at overarching plots. it's a common misconception that kripke had everything planned out and that's what makes 1-5 good, BUT i do think he was good at recognizing story beats over a longer period of time and seeing when something wasn't working and knowing how to scrap it without it feeling too obvious. dabb era... has it's issues. but i did appreciate how he tried to do something different than the seasons before by bringing back mary, introducing jack (cas really did need his own storyline), and leaning more into the ensemble cast (<-that's something that really hurt gamble since she just killed them off lol). buckleming admittedly are not the worst at characterization, they just are bad at writing in almost every other respect so it's hard to enjoy it lol. like yeah dean telling chuck being a killer is "not who i am" is great, but i also had to hear mark pellegrino yell "cuck" three times. so. also i genuinely think fans forget about meredith glynn more than she deserves, she was a solid later seasons writer!! not perfect but when she hits, she hits.
