How quickly can you burn a clutch? via /r/cars
How quickly can you burn a clutch?
Asking because mine just burned- for the second time in 3 weeks. And I'm pretty sure it shouldn't have.
Background- this might be a bit lengthy. I'll post a TLDR at the bottom but reading through will give the best context.
So, I have been driving manual for about 2 years now. In that time, I feel like I've gotten pretty proficient at it. I drive a 2012 Jeep Wrangler, which has 56,000 miles on it. I have had it for about 10,000 of those miles. In that time driving, I never burned the clutch in spite of dozens of rather intense 4x4 off-roading trips. I had it inspected several times in the time I have owned the car in order to make sure I wasn't damaging it too badly while slipping to maintain traction on extremely steep inclines. Inspections at multiple mechanics said it was looking in good condition.
About 3 weeks ago, my head gasket blew while driving on a very busy highway in heavy traffic. As a result of this, oil dripped on my clutch and resulted in it burning out- at least that's the working theory.
I had it replaced, obviously, to the tune of 3,000 dollars (my poor bank account). I received a new clutch and had the head gasket replaced for free (luckily, it was due to a defective part and was covered by the dealership that sold me the car). I received my car back 3 days ago.
Over those 3 days, I put approximately 150 miles on the new clutch. While going up a hill in heavy traffic- definitely slipping the clutch into first, but very quickly and never above 1500 RPMs, my clutch burned out, again. Tow truck driver diagnosed it on the scene, and I definitely recognized the smell from the last time.
So, that's basically my question. Is it possible for an experienced manual driver to have burned a clutch in 150 miles, about 10 of which were what I would consider possibly damaging? Once again, I am aware that I was slipping into gear, but it was always swift. I feel like a brand new clutch would last at LEAST 1000 miles even if you were abusing the ever loving shit out of it. It seems odd to me that it would fail so catastrophically so quickly. I would like to know because I want to know if by chance the dealership could be responsible due to a botched repair job.
Tl;Dr: Have been driving clutch for a very long time on my car and never had a problem. due to an engine failure, my clutch burned out 3 weeks ago and was replaced. The new clutch burned out in under 150 miles in moderate driving conditions. Could the dealership be responsible for a botched repair, or does it sound like I somehow catastrophically fucked up like never before?

Engine advice for a newbie via /r/cars
Engine advice for a newbie
(crosspost in r/jeep) Hey all, I'm not that much of a car girl but I'm trying to get into the customization world. The situation: had a jeep liberty 2002 LE, the head gasket on the engine blew, I want to sell the liberty to save for a wrangler at some point but engine cost & repair are looking to give me a world of trouble. For a used liberty engine what should I be looking at? If not for a liberty, what sort of motors should I be looking out for? Thanks a ton!
